Every fucking amp review should be like this. No complains, just facts. Straight to the point and starting with sounds. Not a half an hour long intro. Loved it. Thank you.
I am baffled by those demonstrations where you can only see the guy talking and describing in front of the cam on how to set up, without showing the actual parts and processes.
I find the orange to have a bigger sound, it's darker. And more organic, but you can get these two amps to sound like each other. I would use the orange for rhythm and Marshall for leads. Maybe a little more gain
Have both, love both. The boost in front actually pulls them ever so slightly closer to each other in a recording. That kinda surprised me a bit. I play mid-gain and don't boost, for that they are far more different sounding. Both amps are absolute BEASTS! In a mix together...AMAZING.
If there's one thing i love about Orange amps, it's that i love that they embrace the lower mid frequencies as opposed to the upper mid frequencies like you hear from a lot of Marshall amps. I've got a Crush Pro 120 that i use in conjunction with a Graphic EQ and an OPT compressor in the loop for more high end bite, and it rips the face off of any other amp that i own. As great as it sounds with the Crush Pro 120, i've always wondered if the Rockerverb would sound better with a 6 band EQ in the loop and the face knobs used in a similar manner to a Mesa Mark series amp.
EQ and compressor in the loop is the “secret ingredient” for Solid State to sound great. Obviously the SS amp needs to be good to begin with, considering EQ’s can’t add frequencies that aren’t already there to begin with. The Orange Solid-state amps are awesome!
What’s your compressor settings. I’ve not tried this yet but I’m gonna get a compressor pedal to try in the loop. Is this the last pedal in your fx loop chain ?
Orange way fatter creamier warmer and wider sound, marshall thinner dryer with more bite but more sterile due to it’s cold bias preamp gain stage, have both and the Orange can get close to the JCM and beyond due to 4 stages compared to 2 preamp gain stages on the JCM800, but not the opposite
These 'small' channels with under 100K subs such as TriCrow, Toby, Zach Wish, Sonic Drive, and Lambchopper (this one's an exception) are always the best in showcasing high gain amps. Tuning is either E or drop D and the riffs happen to be from bands I listen to frequently. Bigger channels are either blues dad or ultra low drop Z tuned riff.
this shows exacly why I love the Orange so much: Without bass you can hear the notes you're playing while on teh marshall is mostly texture but the fundamentals are not very present! On the other hand the Marshall attack is unique
Dude, your content is some of the best for the kinds of equipment i like. I'm surprised you dont have 100k subscribers. Keeo pumpin this high quality hard rock/metal stiff out and you'll get there.
Dude, first of all, what a cool riff! I don't have rockerverb but I have several Orange amps and this video is such a good depiction of how they interact. When I play at home, I really like the orange tone, sounds full, fat, alive... sincerely I have my jcm800 in the storage room. Now, time to record guitar tracks come, the jcm800 sits on top of the mix, clear, cutting through, present. Orange, gets scooped, hard to place, lots of post eq work to give it presence. I love orange amps, again I have many. But the JCM is a classic for a reason
I'll take the clarity and cut of the Marshall hands down, but the Orange has some nice girth that would be cool dialing with the Marshall sound... Bit at that point, I might go 5150, slightly mixing in the Marshall cut.
On these videos you should do a final section where you combine the amps, these 2 would blend amazingly. Marshal has those defined highs, the RV has a mid push. THe RVV sounded much heavier in the drop C riff.
You rock bro...Love your videos...They always cost me money. I just ordered a black 61 SG custom shop and now I need that 800 old school w/ a Ratt distortion pedal!!!! Boom!
For me the Orange is just like a kick in the face, the low mids kick in nicely on the rythmn guitar sections and has more beef than a herd of cows. The JCM is nice on the lead sections but i felt the Orange was pretty close too. If i had to choose i'd go Orange for the extra beef on the the rythmn sections.
I used to other amps. The JCM is the least original sound. Its been done to death. X1000. A Rockerverb 100 mk3 and a Les Paul Custom is life changing…immense…it brings the heavy back to metal🤘
On the comparison with the LP, Orange has a wider sound and more depth to it. The Marshall sound bit more aggressive with the brighter highs. A bit tighter. Just where your preference lies. Mine to the Orange. I’m more of a classic rock player. Maybe that’s why.
It’s honestly funny but unfortunate how many /purists/ I see posting on videos like this that hate new brands just for being new. The Rockerverb is clearly insanely similar and usable in sound signature compared to the JCM. There may be some tonal difference worth a preference, but certainly nothing worth calling one garbage over the other. They’re both superb in their own right and have their own characteristics that make them shine.
the rockerverb is kind of a Quality-of-life upgrade to the JCM isn't it? Similar kind of voicing, but tighter, more gain, in built attentuator, all the things that people compensated for on the JCM in the 80's with an actual attentuator, and an actual boost pedal
I am sadly not expert enough with amp lingo and tying that to what I'm hearing, so y'all please bear with me. I think what I heard in this video was that the Marshall had "congested" mids while whatever the Orange was doing "breathed" or was a bit more "open." I undoubtedly preferred the Rockerverb in this video, I just want to know why. The JCM800 sounded a bit like its frequencies were fighting themselves whereas the Orange just sang clearly. Lil help?
@@0megalul309 Right, except for Mastodon, Sleep, Boris, Slipknot, The Mars Volta, Korn etc... Keep in mind the Rockerverb is a relatively new amp as the first version was launched in 2003, so it hasn't had nearly the amount of time to be recorded compared to the jcm800, yet it's become a staple in quite a few well known bands/guitarists, and a lot more lesser known bands. The jcm800 was launched in 1981, and at the time there were a lot fewer amps with decent gain, so of course the 800 was going to make it onto a lot more records... comparing how much each amp has made it onto a record is relatively meaningless. The jcm800 is undoubtedly a classic, but the Rockerverb has becomes a modern classic, and has a very unique voicing, so it's really an apples and "Oranges" comparison.
The leads just sound so much more round, bouncy and 3D on the 800. the Orange sounds flat by comparison. Bedroom players will love the extra low end that it provides, but that's not really useful in a band. I had a Rockerverb III and it lasted two gigs.
I just sold my Orange you simply just can’t hear the fucking thing when you’re playing in a band. My Hopkins Modified Marshall just ripped his face off. To the point that my other guitar player actually said turn down but it wasn’t loud it was just cutting through a lot more
Can't some eq adjustment allow it to fit better in the band situation? These amps sound so similar to me on this vid I'm surprised things would drastically change jamming with a band
I guess it depends on your setup. But a few years ago when I was in a band the guitar player was playing a half stack peavy 5150 and it sounded like ass. He got a solid state orange combo amp and didn’t even turn it half way up and it was way louder and clearer. Sounded great

Have to agree. I bought the orange over the Marshall for that darker sound but both sound great
@@McAdamstry How does it go for you after a year? Can you provide a small feedback, please?
Can you imagine these two in the mix together? It feels so right!!!
There is an unmatched clarity and bite to an 800.. it’s the goat.
The rockerverb has the low end beefyness tho lol

I agree! I have the same head and i throw a clean boost and eq to cut of some low end for some extra bite and punch. It sounds amazing!

Rockerverb MKIII hanging in with the greatest rock amp of all time.
Rockerverb smokes everything I’ve heard it up against, just my opinion though

Sick playing!!!

Marshall growl is underrated and totally sounds great for metal, I enjoyed those riffs dude,

Your best video yet! Awesome job man. You sold me on the RV. Orange should reward you for the sale LOL
Man that was tight as FK. Love both amps but I'm going to say rockerverb... only because I like the look of them stacked !! Rock on
You rock bro...Love your videos...They always cost me money. I just ordered a black 61 SG custom shop and now I need that 800 old school w/ a Ratt distortion pedal!!!! Boom!
Great video!
I love the Orange sound.
Love your songs!
Hard to beat a Marshall high gain sound. Marshall just so tight.
Both heads have their advantages. This is a hard choice.
Great videos... You ever try a different OD besides a TS9. 808 OD1 Klon type OD pedals?
I had about 30 “Green” OD pedals. Mostly Ibanez. But I settled on the TS9. Cheers -Ryan

nice. i only play clean so that the distortion sounds even heavier when i kick it on 10 seconds later
What a great riff! I am not even a Metal guy and still felt like shaking my head!
Both great, that Marshall is unbeatable but the Orange is still respectable and the gain sound is different enough to be viable.
I guess the orange is in the center of the mid eq, and marshall is lil bit close to high eq
I think these two rule the hard rock realm. Rockerverb is joining the legend status of the 800
I used to other amps. The JCM is the least original sound. Its been done to death. X1000. A Rockerverb 100 mk3 and a Les Paul Custom is life changing…immense…it brings the heavy back to metal🤘
i turned orange. great shit man.
Orange for the clear victory 😮
Rockerverb FTW

I like both.. i thought the 800 sounded meaner.. am i wrong on that?
How's the attenuator on the Rockerverb? Can you get satisfying tones at home between gigs?
Honestly I don’t use it. I have a separate treated room for my cabinets so I’m able to play very loud. Cheers -Ryan

Agreed!

At 2.16 to 2.27 my impression was the marshall lack of gain/dirt.
Marshall more juicy , orange more creamy ☕️
🔥
Orange all the way
Marshall!!!
Orange👊

They sound amazing If used together in the mix.
I mean just throw in a tubescreamer etc as a boost and there you go
Orange for me.
What I hear is that you can buy a rockerverb, boost the high mids with an EQ and it will sound exactly like an 800.
Not in the room playing it in person they won't. Have both, love both. VERY different beasts, yet both beasts.

There's a reason why orange amps are used by hipster's who feel too special to use Marshalls only to hide in the mix.
Had the same problem in an old band of mine. I used a Mark V and the other guy used a Dual Rec. The Mark absolutely ate him alive.
Had same problem with rocker 30. Oranges are lost in a mix. But great for studio.
