Hu tao job is to keep the natural order between life and death, so she wanted to bury her and let her pass away peacefully, considering herself Qiqi's freind for that
so she tried to kidnap her for that. (each attempt actually took quite a lot of planning)
Qiqi forced herself to remeber her to avoid her
after many failed attempts, she went and looked into Qiqi (which mean 77, btw) past.
she found out her story, her will to live, and everything else; after likely crying a river (which she will never admit) she stopped trying to bury her. She then started to kidnap her with the goal of pampering her, a lot.
the issue is that Qiqi memories last around 3 days, with 2 thing surviving in her memories, MC and avoiding Hu tao. so even if Hu tao manage to talk things out with her (and likely it happened more than once) she will forget that.
The first time baizhu said "everytime she kidnapped qiqi" I burst into laugh

Like these characters come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and upbringing yet there are no big disagreements between anyone? Idk I just want more drama on a small scale I guess lmao.
P.S. Ei mentions that when she first met Venti, she already knew she wouldn't get along with him. THAT'S what I want. But they never explored more on why she doesn't like him and how they would interact now (especially considering the fact they have very contrasting way of handling their nations)

@@generalefe1 I know about those but they mostly don't have any dialogues where they openly say something bad about each other (Talking about Diluc and Kaeya) Diluc just says something about hating Kaeya working for the Knights. Kaeya on the other hand doesn't say a lot of bad things about his brother except that thing about his liking for grape juice.
Diona, that one I like but she mostly hates the wine industry as a whole instead of Diluc.
I like Yae Miko too but her dialogues are mostly just playful banter. I know she kinda dislikes Ayato for his tendency to deflect her pranks but we saw them interact in a recent event last year and did you even get the vibes that she disliked him? I didn't.

Everyone is just joking about Baizhu being bad for Hu Tao's business, but in reality it runs way deeper than that. It's a debate of morality.
You can imagine that for a philosophy that treats death as an inevitable part of life, Baizhu's research is unacceptable. He is distorting the balance of life and death without worrying about the consequences after all.
I would also like to mention that, if you've read Hu Tao's story, she has already given up on kidnapping qiqi, and even tries to become friends with her, although she doesn't succeed.
If you read Baizhu’s story, you can see his reasons for seeking immortality as well. I think they did a good job at balancing their ideals and making them feel tangible, as well as touching upon the layers of their relationship. They respect eachother deeply, and know that both their fields of work are necessary. They just have different outlooks and tend to keep their own secrets from one another. I personally think it’s quite nice to see more nuanced relationships between characters.

Fun fact the first voice line about Hu Tao must take place in the past because according to the story bits in Hu Tao's character page, she stopped kidnapping Qiqi a long time ago. Now she dotes on Qiqi and tries to spoil her. Unfortunately, Qiqi only rememebers the kidnappings and not the big sisterly attempts by Hu Tao. As a result Hu Tao has become her buggabear, her boogyman. Despite her formally more outwardly hostility towards Hu Tao (Qiqi once had a voiceline about wanting to punch Hu Tao in the face) Qiqi is a *_absoulutely_* terrified of Hu Tao.
I think the really sad part is when you read Qiqi character stories. According her exerpts we get the impression that Qiqi was a very emotional, and expressive little girl, easily scared. This is a constrast to a brave and adventerous girl like Klee. Due to her undead nature, Qiqi has a relatively dull tone of voice and cannot convey most of her emotions to others. She's not emotionless, but lacks facial expression. If she could I imagine she would be a bawling mess everytime Hu Tao kidnapped her or approaches her.
It's completely understandable why she's so afraid of Hu Tao. How could you not? Imagine being 8 years old and some random 20 year old kidnapped you, expressing their desire to bury you alive and reunite you with your dead family in the afterlife!
i bet hu tao probably stopped kidnapping her because she realized she was just... repeatedly traumatizing a dead kid and felt bad 😅 it would certainly explain her trying to be a lot more friendly now
I mean, her philosophy is all about the dead moving on and how death is just as important as life. I'm 99% sure she didn't have any bad intentions, but like she COULD of calmed down a lot sooner 💀

I'm so glad the new "About Baizhu" things have vindicated him. i won't spoil it in case anyone hasn't read them yet, but I'm glad people will be able to see what he's really about and that he's not some greedy monster who wants to live forever out of arrogance and treats Qiqi like a guinea pig. So many people just assumed he was evil just because he couldn't say that Qiqi was the most important thing in the world to him. You can care about many things deeply, but that doesn't mean it is your most important thing. You can love a sibling dearly, for example, but your spouse or child might be your number one. It doesn't mean you don't love the sibling, it's just a matter of priority.
I assumed that would be the case since he seems like a giant Princess White Snake reference. Bai Suzhen was also unfairly doubted and hated for being a snake spirit despite being a good and virtuous person. All she wanted was to help people with her pharmacy and medical skills and love her husband. Just a simple and happy life. A Buddhist monk, who should have been the virtuous one, judging her based on his assumptions and biases rather than her actions and character was what ruined everything.
Truthfully I found this turn of events to be boring. I thought we'd finally get another morally gray character but POOF. SURPRISE! Another uwu marketable plushie. It's boring, really!

We just get completely reprehensible villains with a long history of crimes that are forgiven immediately just because they're attractive and aren't doing anything awful -to you- at the current moment. I'd rather have the standard hero characters than more badly squeezed in 'redeemed' ones. ^_^;;;
I think the only truly morally gray character they've ever made is Venti, and that's just because he's allowed a lot of terrible things to happen while claiming he didn't want the responsibility that comes with openly intervening, but I'm hoping that, with the constant references to his mysterious doings in secret, they will give him a better reason eventually.

They have amazing lore but onscreen? Raiden was woobiefied last minute and instantly redeemed, Childe had his badass moment in Liyue then all we've seen of him in his story was this whole "good with kids" narrative that became focal points in his subsequent appearances as if he wasn't about to commit genocide a few chapters prior while Scaramouche outright is a genocider and the entirety of his redemption was another blame shifting to Dottore just like what happened between Raiden to Signora, and outright gets kitty-fied twice as a cuuuuute uwu innocent kitty!!!! Both in story and promotional art... Wanna know what all these names, excluding Dottore, had in common? They were all morally questionable characters that felt more tragic, serious and interesting and they either 1) got woobiefied 2) blame shifted their crimes to someone else/their crimes get outright ignored or 3) they get killed off (Signora)

Baizhu is sich a breath of fresh air. He‘s one of the good guys presumingly, is still really mysterious and doesn’t like everyone he knows and isn’t nice to everybody- how unique. I love that his little snake talks too, I really wanted that to exist just like with Oz, Paimon and so on!~ Can‘t wait for him~~
Hu Tao’s line for about Baizhu is literally “Ugh, that guy”. There was also a long-standing philosophical rivalry hinted at in the 3.6 livestream between the too… I have the chaotic urge to pull for Baizhu and make him healer for my Hu Tao 😂

I think that the lore says that Hu Tao only tried to bury Qiqi the one time (traumatizing her in the process), but after seeing how much the little zombie desired to live she gave up on that plan and now tries to dote on Qiqi whenever she has the chance, but the aforementioned trauma combined with Qiqi's memory issues to make it so that Qiqi always thinks that Hu Tao is going to try and bury her again.

I don't think he really cares about Qiqi as a person though more as a project and a way to get medicine. Qiqi also mentions in her voice lines that she doesn't mind forgetting Baizhu which is almost the exact opposite of what she thinks of Yaoyao who she really likes.
@@ChiIIi... She never forgets about Baizhu, she only forgets his face. Qiqi only remembers Hu Tao’s face because of how much she hates her. Baizhu and Qiqi’s relationship is transactional but it is not harmful or abusive. He taught her how to remember, teaches her exercises to stave off her rigor mortis, and is extremely patient and gentle with her. Baizhu certainly treats her far better than Hu Tao, if nothing else.
@@lynnraven6101 Isn't the bar a little low to say that Hu tao treats her worse. It's also clear as day from that voice line that Qiqi doesn't like him. As for the exercises Qiqi does them herself he doesn't really help her with them maybe he one time mentioned how to stretch but that isn't something someone can be praised for. I wouldn't say their relationship is abusive at all that's a bit too far. However I don't think it's equally transactional either. Baizhu gets to use her as a experiment and go out to collect herbs for her while what she gets is work? I just don't think he actually cares for Qiqi even close to what people assume otherwise Qiqi wouldn't associate his face with something that is worth forgetting. There isn't really much information to conclude how their relationship is ,but this is the conclusion I made from the current information that is given
@@ChiIIi... I only brought up Hu Tao because she was the main subject of the original comment. Qiqi says “I know that Dr.Baizhu is a good person” on Baizhu’s drip marketing quote. Baizhu absolutely helps her with the exercises and her memory, I’ve read Baizhu’s character stories that have been leaked recently. He also did NOT tell Qiqi to go pick out herbs. At first, he just told her to stay at the pharmacy and rest. She was the one who insisted to going to gather herbs because that’s what she did in her past life. At first, her memory was so poor that Baizhu had to personally go and look for her everytime before gently reminding her that she lives at Bubu Pharmacy with him over and over.
Their relationship is mutually beneficial. Qiqi gets to do what she loves, be looked after, has someone help her with everything and save her from being buried by Hu Tao. Baizhu gets to have an apprentice who gathers herbs (which wasn’t even why he took her in) and someone who he can observe in order to achieve his goal. There’s also another reason he took Qiqi in but I won’t spoil you, unless of course you ask for it.
@@lynnraven6101 Honestly I am not completely aware of Baizhu's character story but I am with Qiqi's. If Baizhu really cared for her like that then why does Qiqi associate him with something that is worth forgetting?

Honestly considering his usual self I would have never thought that he would be more easily annoyed than the snake XD
On first introduction he looks way calm and nice while the snake got easily angry but now it's the complete opposite and it's really funny XD
If it wasn't for the Fontaine boys I would pull for him, I really want a Dendro Catalyst but even if Fontaine is still far from being released I still can't pull for anyone else before it comes out because I really want the new Fontaine guys, especially Lyney and since I have a guaranteed I can't risk it.
If I pull for Baizhu I won't have enough Primogems and if I'm lucky I will be able to get just two Fontaine guys.

I think it's more implied that the traveller has just informed Baizhu of Tighnari. Baizhu's wording suggests that he hasn't even met or heard of Tighnari before now.
