Gotta admit Old VA voice fits better. But after i learned things he had done everytime i hear his voice my skin crawls. And im not a victim. Now imagine how hard it must have been for them. I think we should stop being selfish and we should just leave him behind.

That's why he is being replaced. Mihoyo stepped in and took away his role because he abused his fame to groom some of his fans.

Am I the only one who thinks the new VA is way better? He adds so much more emotion to the lines. The old one sounds so dead and boring to me… the new one has the Tighnari sass we all know and love, and the VA adds a nerdy touch to his voice which I think fits very well for Tighnari’s character
Edit: Valid points on both sides! Looking back, I still think the new VA is better, but I can definitely see why a lot of people prefer the old one

I think the new VA can be quite promising: remember that Genshin sometimes has their VA’s re-record their lines after initial release (like Ayato’s “About Itto” voice line which got replaced nearly a year later, Barbara as a whole, Diona in her Hangout originally featuring Xiangling’s VA for almost a year before Diona’s own VA redid them etc, there’s more but these are the significant ones ), and given the unique circumstances surrounding Tighnari, there’s no doubt that the new VA had to rush through all these lines in time for the update and therefore probably had less time than a VA typically would to familiarise themselves with the character. So while these samples might seem a bit off right now and inconsistent with the voice direction, there’s a chance they’ll eventually be replaced with more polished recordings and overall better performances overtime as the VA gets used to this role naturally instead of the rushed work they had to do on such short notice. I won’t be surprised if the lines we have now are in fact placeholders just so we have something for actor consistency. Zachary is no newbie to the VA scene, and I believe he can do Tighnari justice with the proper voice direction.
I really, really hope that is the case. His lines sound so flat now, where did Tighnari's sass go?!
I pulled for Tighnari on his banner because I loved his sass. I really hope they new VA will be able to bring it back!

@@yunamoonlight1015 Not all of his lines are flat, for example I think this Line, "I'll uproot you!" 0:56, is much more lively then the original and has that sense of impact that a Burst line should have. With the "I'll uproot you!" line it's the exact opposite and I personally feel that the original seems flat to me, so I much perfer that new one. If optimizations occur to bring all of them up to par I feel this new VA will surpass the original.
Yeah, I think most fans don't consider just how short notice and rushed this recasting and rerecording was. It's great that Hoyo reacted this fast and the faster the old VA can be replaced the better, but that doesn't change that with this little time to work with, of course the performance will suffer.
Voice acting isn't just reading a script once and be done. It's the director and VA working out over a long process just how exactly they want the character to sound (VAs don't choose that. The director does)
And then it's recording every voice line and even every little sigh/grunt literally DOZENS of times. There's no way Gordon had any time to do that. I think it's even possible that for "one time" lines (like story and archon quest) they only took a single take and moved on. In comparison the skill/burst etc. lines imo sound much better, and those were most likely the ones they focused on and actually took many takes until they were satisfied with it.
Barbara got his old lines mixed with new lines when Genshin get released, looked they somehow fucked up Barbara's idle tatara like at least 3 times.
Ironic how people criticise his new English voice being childish when he sounds more childish in Japanese. But since the language is Japanese and the JP VAs are practically worshipped, hardly anyone bats an eye
Edit 2024: Tighnari doesn't have any decent English VAs so it's about time I get used to his Japanese VA. New VA didn't age well either because he's alleged to be a z1on1st.
I didn't like the Japanese dub due to how feminine and childish it sounds.
Coming from someone who watches anime with subtitles, I have to agree. Like the Chinese version is literally there and he sounds so fricken good!!!

Why do we need to compare one Language VA to another, hmm? Just because JP department decided a higher/lighter voice is best for them doesn't mean the same for EN. Different market has different preference in voice acting.

I really love how new VA adding "heh" everywhere! In burst, and in his voice lines... Also 2 out of 3 burst lines are more emotional now! He did a great job. Some players just need more time to adjust

Although the new voice doesn’t give off the same vibe as the old one, I quite like the new one. Like don’t get me wrong I love the old voice lines even if the old VA is disgusting for what he did, but I also like the new one cuz it kind of shows a different side of Tighnari’s character!
I will have to disagree. I do feel the old VA did a better job with the combat voicelines, particularly the "hah. can't see?" and "i hear everything!" It just feels so flat, no oomph. But the new VA did nail the idle and "longer" voicelines.

The more I listen, the more I love Gordon's portrayal! So much more lively, fun, energetic and mischievous! His "heh"s are so CUTE. And big TY to MHY and Gordon for literally redubbing and rerecording so quickly !! I'm so excited to play Tighnari with his new lines

I've fallen so hard for Tighnari in the Chinese version that his old English voice no longer crosses my mind! But I'm glad Hoyo got his new voice so EN players can enjoy Tighnari without having to be reminded of him.

I've always played in Chinese so I was curious to hear the English and yeah, same! Tighnari's Chinese voice actor is very, very good!
Personally I like the old va's voice better (NOT THE VA HIMSELF BTW) but I still really like the new one! Though it needs some time to get used to but it still fits tighnari very well!

@WackyChu he does have a sass but more sarcastic one. Hes new VA also rushed on his voice lines and he didn't quite know how to fit with the character, but his quest lines are much better and you can tell that he has found right tone for him!
They did ZacheryG dirty. Tigh doesnt suit his voice. I think Zachery could have suited other characters better, but he's been lumped with Tigh now. Or vice versa depending on your own opinion.
i love the new VA so much more!! it doesn’t quite match the same tone of the original, but honestly, i think zachary’s take on tighnari is much more suited to his character.
also, i found that his lines in the archon quest (where he’s speaking more casually) are really well done!!
I think the old VA had a smoother and calm... more of a mature/"smart" voice. Granted the new VA likely had to rush and couldn't get much practice in .
2:40, 2:48, 2:57 are the only new voicelines that fits tighnari imo

I loved the "tired of everyone" attitude the old interpretation had though.
I think Zachery flubbed a lot of the lines, especially the combat ones. They sound flat. He really didnt get time to figure out the character and they musta had him churning out so many lines! I can hear him thinking "Im so done."

Tighnari's supposed to sound like a sassy Forest Ranger who's confident in his actions, like a strong willed leader. His new VA makes him sound.... Uncertain and shy (for lack of better words I can think of).
Maybe I just need to listen to his voice to help it grow on me but I'm currently not much of a fan. *Regardless, happy the VA has changed!*

In my opinion I miss he's old sassy voice it fits the character more better but don't get me wrong I like the new voice it sounds really good but just some voiclines sound like Mika which is why it bothers me a little but after hearing what the old VA did it really bothered me too listen his voice as a thignari main I just wish that the new VA did the same delivery as the old one did still the new VA did a pretty good job

I miss his old voice, even though it's good that Elliot is gone. But a friend of mine once said that this VA sounds more like the kind of person who would mouth off to the 2nd Fatui Harbinger, and I agree. His combat lines are also way better.

I like how confident the trash VA sounded, and as terrible of a person as he is, I personally like his voice lines better. The new VA makes him sound so shy and uncertain, not the sassy lovable boi I knew and loved. As another commenter said, the lines were probably very rushed and they'll probably be redubbed later. Hopefully they will. I'm glad they found a new VA, but I think I'll always prefer the voice of the old one, even if he was trash.

I agree, I still prefer the old voice as Tighnari sounded more mature, calm and composed like a forest watcher he is. Of course, it's a shame that VA ended his own career. The new VA is trying his best but I'm still not used to the nerdy voice. In fact, it might sound like Mika's voice.
The new VA sounds good when it comes to his battle voices. Like getting hit or casting an ability and the ultimate. For the neutral voices like introducing himself or any voice lines It might take a while to get used to it. Overall the new VA sounds promising. Plus I just discovered the new VA is the actor of the movie Diary of the Wimply Kid.

Some do feel a bit flat or too exaggerated but I wish they used the Barbara VA treatment. I will not be surprised that this audio are just a quick voice over to just replace the OLD VA line
At the very least they can rerecord over time should people say what they don't like to Hoyo. Since they listened to the community backlash at the old VA's doings, I would say they're still listening and will read the feedback.

I feel like most of the people who say the old VA was better only say that because they were used to it more.
Not really, the old one you can tell Tighnari's personality, he's a smart sassy guy who was confident and was wise. The new one I barely see those traits, Tighnari doesn't sound bad, it just doesn't compensate his personality. In the new one he feels kinda shy and a newbie schoolar more than what he is, an veteran.

Ngl definitely liked the old voice better for Tighnari, but I do like the new one here n there. If Genshin was to just go over some of the lines again with him on certain parts, he'd totally nail Tighnari the character! It feels like the old Barbara situation again, but definitely can be fixed. I especially like the new VA's voice lines for "nip it in the bud", "I'll bury you", & "can't see" a lot (gave me a slight Chat noir vibe). xD He's definitely doing his best, that much I can say for sure & look forward to listening to his voice lines. : )

old VA was a dissapointment for a person, but he left me an impression of Tighnari that fits for my image of him
honestly Tignari became my second fav character because of the expessive voice that i feel like fits him greatly mostly in the story
new VA gave a different Tighnari, and yes thats good but I was... hoping for more... sass, because it feels like he is overly cautious here
Additionally, the new VA gives 2 expressions thats to constrasting -one overly loud and the other too quite, that its feels out of character, like it feels inconsistency

edit: i listened to the other video which contained his voice lines for like characters and i actually quite liked it. Exasperated much more patient but still has sass rather than the cocky sassy of the old va

the new voice is good, but I don't know about the voice direction his cadence doesn't give me sassy collage drop out vibes.
(I now he graduated from the academia and just refused to stay as an alumni, but he gave off drop out energy)
I played a lot with him since release and I was so used to his voice...I'll probably need to re-adapt my ears to this new voice. It doesn't sound bad at all but it sounds a little bit similar to Mika's voice. I'll check by tomorrow.
It's definitely the new VA for me. The old one sounds like a grandpa waiting on his deathbed. While the new one sounds similar in terms of being wise, but younger, agile, and able to back up that sass with a fight. The added "huh"s and "eh"s brought realism and life to the character.

Играю на япе, не слышала английского Тигнари в принципе. Интереса ради закрыла глаза и включила видео. В одном случае я слышала очень приятный моим ушам голос, интересные интонации, живое общение персонажа. В другом случае слышала будто попала на урок английского, где монотонный голос на записи ведет диктант, иногда пытаясь добавлять эмоции, от чего вычурно и не естественно звучит. Не могу представить чтобы просто так в жизни общались. В ушах ассоциация с записью для обучения. Открыла глаза, проверила. Обрадовалась, что я играю на Япе и меня изменение не коснется. Разочаровалась, что тот голос, который оказался так приятен во время прослушки - убрали...
Maybe, Elliot is bad as a person, but he surely is good as VA. The new VA doesn't sound as bold as him. To my mind that childish voice doesn't suit Tighnari well enough

Isn't Genshin from a Chinese company? If you're talking about localizing then chinese is your go-to, not that the english dub has any problems in general
@@randyrandom3358 Yes, it's from a chinese company, but JP localization is one of the MOST FAITHFUL (Due to JP Kanji words is similar to CN) to the original meaning intended by devs.
English dub has no problem? Let me list the tiny bit for u
1) Faruzan's title supposed to be "SENIOR"/Senpai", not "Madam"
2) Simplified "Vision" name, when it supposed to be God's Eye (CN = Shén zhī Yǎn, JP = Kami no Me)
3) Simplified Gnosis name, when it supposed to be God's Heart/Spirit/Mind (Not Heart as in Organ, well that's "Shinzou in JP", CN = Shén zhī Xīn, JP = Kami no Kokoro)

The fact that u mentioned "Have no Problem" already proved that u not realized the MisTranslations of english words in this game, thus the need to understand JP/CN words.
A quick google search will list more of these wrongly mistranslated words that english speakers will misunderstood the meaning.

@@zragon I'm pretty sure you're thinking too deep into this. Is there a new va for Tighnari in JP? I don't think so, that's why I'm under the impression that you're here to preach some outdated/unrelated rants from people who don't need a localization from the first place.
While I do understand that Faruzan can be called "Senior Faruzan", Vision being "God's eye" or the Gnoses to be "God's Heart". It doesn't really change that much aside from a "wow, they planned it out".
Madam Faruzan can be interpreted as a "(senior's version of lady) Faruzan", Visions can be interpreted as "Visions gifted by the Gods" and Gnoses can be interpreted as "God's Knowledge/Mind". The analogies you presented don't make much of an impression to "Eng Dub mistranslations", and this video was about the VA change

Old voice sounds much better tbh. Sure the VA did sth irl that's bad and all but idk how changing the ingame voice helped anyone.

I kind of like the new one already. I’m sure as time passes he will eventually get used to the role and get better, he’s probably just adjusting himself to Tighnari’s character while also making Tighnari’s personally fit him. I also like how instead of following you know who’s Tighnari, he is trying to make his own version of Tighnari and some of his voice lines also seem more sassier than his old one which I really like. Keep up the good work, you are doing great!
Edit: I especially love his new Mistakes voicelines, really comforting and it just makes me all warm inside compared to his old one. It’s like the voice actor, Zachary if I’m not mistaken is really comforting the listeners and I love it, I have a feeling that I’ll be listening to this specific voice line more often now.

Sometimes I don't if I like his new VA or hate it. Of course, I miss the sass in his old voice lines, but I do find the appeal in making him sound slightly cuter. But then I hear lines like 1:12 "I hear Everything" and it just sounds as if Mika went through more puberty gone wrong. 0:48 When he doesn't sound like Mika whos gone through more puberty, he sounds like Sonic.

Back when they first changed the voice, I liked the older one more but was fine with the new one. But now, I feel like the newer one fits a lot more
I like more the old one because I think that nerd's voice matches him better. But the new one is as good as the old.

I had a real hard time getting used to the new one since i mained him at that time. The new one's great too tho, it just kinda makes him sounds younger? And reminds me a little of Mika?
Old VA's disgusting bullshit behavior aside, he did give a unique twist to the character: Tighnari came off as kinda a condescending dick, but he sounded like a professional.
New guy just sounds like every generic 15-year-old video game character ever.
Bruh they just took any old va off the effing street 💀💀💀 I cannot this lacks overall smoothness of Tighnari. Yes the old one has to go but this sounds like a rushed botch job. I have been exclusively using EN but at this point I see myself forced to use either CN or to bench Tighnari alltogether as I really can't stand the new VA. THis is a effing nightmare as he is my main as of right now.
I highly recommend giving the Chinese version a shot!! His performance captures Tighnari's soothing voice while also managing to pull off his snarky moments without it being over the top! He sounds delicate but you can still feel his air of authority!

The old sussy voice sounds more appropriate, I always thought of tighnari as being sus in the story. I though he was doing something to collei to keep her sick 😂. The new voice makes him sound like a nice person, I kind of like it better when he sounds ambiguous, he could be good or bad.

He was like, “hey, can you run some errands for me, this woman hasn’t eaten in days, totally normal don’t worry, and collei here is dying but nothing we can do, oh and if some people come looking for me, I was never here.
