- Finally, Tighnari VA is getting replaced in Version 3.6 by Zachary Gordon after what happened with the old VA, Elliot Gindi. There are obviously more voice lines but these are just only a few major voicelines that we'll hear frequently so the video wouldn't be too long. This video is just to compare the voice lines, if you don't want to listen to the old one I suggest you to mute it during his voice. And let's appreciate Zachary Gordon, that did a great job voicing the new VA of Tighnari!

i love the fact hyv decided NOT to let Zach listen to the old voicelines, because they wanted to fully separate the old voiceover from the new one. while i (hate to) admit he who shall not be named did an amazing job at voicing tighnari, i am so excited for the new voiceover. while the old one was sassy, zach made tighnari into a full blown sarcastic king and i’m living for it
It's a very weird and full of controversy decision. The only reason they did that was to try to stay away from the old VA to avoid any damage to the company reputation. But it's unfair to trash a whole character personality and start from zero at this point. He could very well keep the same tone as the old one and yet have a different voice. It sounds like Mika is voicing Tighnari and not only it's conflicting, but it ruins the already build fanbase. Imagine if that happened to Zhongli. Players would quit for good, his voice alone is carrying the character and the fanbase.

But some characters changed voiced in eastern won't make us quit the game.
Especially if the old VA does a crime.
When Ai Kayano who is one of the most known VA in Japan have scandal with China and every China games needs to replace all her roles, while it does makes fans upset, but the game still thriving and not stopping at all.
If you would quit just because 1 character is having a different voice, maybe you don't even really likes the game to begin with.

For me it just stupid if you would quit a game just cause 1 character have their voice changed.
Cause the story is still there, and there's a ton of characters exists.
Also like one of your reason, you could just not opt to play him instead, it's not even mandatory to play with him.
If the game have a big problem or a scandal came out for the company itself, than it would makes sense to quit it.
@@ar11jpeghe thing abiut Tighnari in game is that while he is smart academically and common sense wise he is confident in himself and his sass is a mature “sarcastic-straight to the point” kind of sass rather than a playful sass you could see from Yae for example. Zach did a good job but if he sounded more confident and a bit more mature it would be perfect.
People who bully other people for having constructive criticism on the new va while not supporting the old va(looking at you twitter) isn’t really helping either.
Though honestly I’d rather hoyo just give multiple voicelines by different vas and make a poll to let the community choose which one they like better on Tighnari
I prefer his new VA for sure. He managed to portray Tighnari‘s sarcasm/sass in a more subtle and natural way. He did an amazing job, and even if THAT hadn’t happened, I still would’ve liked his performance a lot more :)

the opening chests line gets me everytime lmao- the old VA makes it sound like he's questioning the chest and the location in a serious manner, whereas the new VA makes it sound like he's genuinely concerned about why there is a chest there lmao
The new VA’s take on Tighnari is exactly how I imagined Tighnari would be - nerdy, has a ‘know it all’ tone, and a little younger than his age. The old VA’s take and his added sass just make it unique which makes it memorable but not necessarily good.
I love how Zach delivered this in just 2 months without even hearing the old voicelines, and how Hoyo didn’t tolerate having a scum of a person tied to this community.

Ngl I've been playing genshin for a long time and have been there since the old VA voiced Tighnari and I always felt his voice was not to my full liking in English and preferred him in the Japanese dub. Zach's interpretation of him seems more Tighnari tbh. Obviously they're gonna have to tweak a few lines since it's so short notice and Zach didn't have a lot of time to prepare, but he did a great job w what was available to him.

The old voice is definitely unique when it comes to voice acting…but the guy had to go and I’m ok knowing Greg Heffley is now Tighnari. Plus I can tell he put in his own emotions into the character, it’s just something that’s gonna need getting used to
Speaking of emotions, there is a huge difference in the voiceline "when it snows". The previous Va put in some soft emotion into it so the traveler felt comforted by it but Zachary's version of that line, was said in a deadpan way. But no hate on Zachary though. He did what he could in the time given to him. Fella must have been tired of rushed recording everything.

@@IndraD Common doesn't mean not illegal. Since he had a platform, it was much easier to get caught. And depending where he's from, there's definitely gonna be legal issues happening.

If I'm completely honest, Zachary is EXACTLY how I pictured Tighnari to sound like. I was super surprised when he first came out and sounded like that (previous VA), but I think Zachary is doing a GREAT job and it sounds more soothing instead of squeaky.

Yeah, I think the old voice was more jarring but we all got used to it. Dont get me wrong, I love when they mix it up. I still miss Barbara's old voice. But I think this new one just fits Tighnari's appearance more.
I totally disagree. I find the new one kinda weird, I didnt imagine Tighnari to be squeeky, since I see him as a calm and to himself person. I do find it great that they changed it for the reasons we all know. I support the new va, he is trying his best to do Tighnari, and if he voiceacts him like that I´m fine. Also said, sometimes vas have to do the voice a spicific way , so maybe he was told do be more squeeky.
I liked both VA's because the previous one had a bit of a sassy tone in it and the new one has a soothing voice. But I'm glad they changed his VA.

In all honesty, I especially like how the new voice lines are a lot softer and probably done with everyone's idiocy. Like the quote where he says: "It's all part of the learning process," sounds a lot more like a doting teacher who wishes the best for you (reminds me of my teachers). Although we may miss a sassy Tighnari, this was for the best, and I am glad of the change in the voice lines.
I personally read it more as just brutal honesty which seems to fit Tighnari. He sounds just as ready to give you the most heartfel praise you'll ever hear as he is to deliver the most crushing and blunt criticism of your life

Tighnari voice lines are really funny, I guess that makes the new voice easier to accept. The old voice was really unique, and I wish the new one was just a little deeper

As someone who doesn’t play in english dub- Tighnari’s old voice is quite rare to me. So to me personally, I REALLY love the new one! I don’t understand why people said he doesn’t sound “sassy” anymore because in CN dub he sounds strict. But I love the new one! He sounds more mature and gentle here 💚 I might change to eng if there are events that has Tighnari involved because he sounds cool

I love the old one.. not saying the new one is bad it's just my preference and I think I knew why people say that thing.. yep he definitely lost the sassiness in the new one and sounds more mature, if I looked back at his story quest the when he mocked us dang it was iconic.. also my fav voiceline is when he is in dessert ha.. The “sassiness” was something the old VA coined for the character but it’s not canon to his personality. Tighnari is pretty strict and super nerdy so I really love that his new VA gave Tighnari “🤓” energy
wow i can tell you the cn dub does not sound strict, the words he uses in chinese like "呢" or "啊" makes him sounds carefree tbh and his tone and the way he speaks just sounds soft. you guys should stop coping and just accept that the old one is better. idk what copium youre smoking there but like the old one literally carries the vibe of the cn dub you were talking about. the new one sound like a old creepy dude with a rough voice that sounds shit, it does sound more mature but in a bad way and no it does not sound gentle

Hearing the side by side i can say that the new va sounds more clearer than the old one. His voice isnt as soft as the previous one and it does add more to tighnaris character. I was so used to the old va as a tighnari player that it was taking my awhile to get used to the change but the side by side helped me appreciate Zacharys voice over more because it makes me feel like i can understand what he Is saying more clearly than before. Idk i struggle understanding a lot of things clearly 😭 so i really appreciate the change

The “I’LL UPROOT YOU!” sounds perfect though, I know Genshin’s not designed as an “I’m gonna scream the attacks name’s at the top of my lungs” kinda game but this line had a lot of oomph put into it and I appreciate it
I’m just happy HYV managed to get the entirety of Tighnari’s VO completely redubbed in such a short time, bravo HYV

I only play in English dub because I've become so attached to the English cast and I will admit, as much as I don't want to, that I will miss Tighnari's original voice. It won't quite be the same as I thought it was perfect for him. "You know who" actually did a very good job but Zachary's is very unique in and of itself. He also sounds a lot younger, which I appreciate. I'm sure given the time it will grow on me. He does need to work on the sass a little bit but these sound really good so far! I'm excited to hear more!

As much as I loved how sassy the old VA was, I'm excited to see Zach's progression as the game goes on. I have faith in him
Edit: Since y'all apparently can't read, I am NOT wanting to keep the old VA. I'm happy that they replaced him, and I want to see how Zach will go, since it's evident they didn't have much time, like other comments have stated. I sympathize with the victims of the old VA, as I myself was a victim of grooming when I was a teen. It's not that deep, y'all.

I'm for sure not getting used to a VA that sounds like a lifeless robot that just reads down lines like a total VA beginner unable to do the simplest emotions like sounding cheerful, sorr, but thats simply not the quality I, huge emphasis on I as a single letter for me cant just express that without mentioning that - expect from a game like GI that earns every freaking month millions over millions of money - in other words, enough to come up with a little bit more effort to a solution that would be more pleasing for everyone, because everything the victim sympathists care for and those who care less, but just wanted a decent solution, just wanted to see Elliots butt get kicked out of the company quickly only.

I've been a Tighnari main since he released. He was my first lvl 90, first fully built artifacts/weapon, etc. I love the new voice actor. It sounds much more realistic, authentic, and true to the character (as seen in cutscenes and story). He sounds much more caring for the applicable lines, and the sarcastic lines seem more natural/realistic to how everyday people talk (at least around me). I'm so glad to have the new VA

Honestly I love the new VA. I think it’s more in line with Tighnari’s voice in other languages which (in my opinion but I respect anyone who doesn’t think this) I think have captured his personality better. I feel like we’ll see his caring side come out more, especially with characters like Collei (the old VA’s tone with Collei always seemed off to me). I will miss the exaggerated sass when he’s talking to characters like Cyno, but I overall enjoy this voice much more. And, as said by Cyno’s EN VA, I’m happy it’s so different because then it won’t trigger anyone
Omg finally another person who noticed this! The old Tigh’s voice was so cold towards Collei 😭 I was surprised about that when we first met Tigh and Collei when entering Sumeru. I always imagined Tigh to be a nerdy scholar, not a strict, sassy one. Zach is exactly how Tigh should sound, it’s just that people are so used to the old one.

YES!!! as much as i love the extremely sassy tighnari in the old voice, i don't think tighnari canon personality is sassy EVERYTIME, it seems the attitude on the old voice doesn't fit with the soft scene like when it's between tighnari and collei. the new voice by zachary really good on giving the subtle sass and the know it all personality of tighnari and i must say i love it more than the old one. yes, i will miss the constant sassiness on the old voice, but the newer voice definitely suits the canon personality of tighnari more
The new VA did such a great job!!! It’s hard to step into an existing character with a distinct tone and characterization while still making it your own and I think Zachary Gordon killed it 😊

I agree with you. I dunno how people are saying the new Tighnari voicelines have personality but to me it lacks personality and confidence of a teacher/Forest watcher Who knows his flora/leader. I get that the recordings were rushed though.....

I don't play in English so as listening this for the first time I like Zachary's voice more, he sounds with more personality than the previous VA

I know some people like the sass of the old VA’s work but I personally feel like some of it feels like overacting, and I find the new VA’s calmer lines more refreshing. Especially if you’re gonna hear it over and over?

Call me what you want but I've never liked Tig's eng va. And to be honest I'm really liking the new va so regardless of what people say, it's a W in my book.
As much as I liked the previous VA's work, which is difficult to surpass (sadly), the new Tighnari VA sound more like Tighnari, he preserved some of the sassiness, but it's also more active and endorsing, with really meaningful ups and downs in the voice tones. The "why is there a chest here?" really sounded like "I've seen enough, so it isn't that much surprising. that said... why. is. there. a. chest. here??"
Yeah plus changing his sassy voice tone was also done so the victims don't trigger that horrible memory
To be honest I LOVE Zachary Gordon's voiceover. It's a new take on tighnari but it's so well done and it really fits him.
“Can’t see?” And “I hear everything” are the only lines I think the old VA did better, and under the circumstances, it’s a worthy sacrifice. I love Tighnari’s new voice 🥺
For me the old VA's version while in combat was better but the rest the newer VA is better
There is little to no sass in the new voice which was my favourite part of tignari’s voice but I do hope the sass in his voice will grow as he continues to voice tignari
well tighnari's actual personality is not sassy XD like he does have some sass but hes more of a "im so done with you" "argh" "kind" personality: new va gave tighnari life and is on par with the japanese personalty XD while old va had sass in every line, it made tighnari sound like a sassy sleepy dude..the new one made him sound awake
@@ascreamingarcticfox5395 I understand this since I do have favourites in the ENG voice overs (hats to Dainsleif, Zhongli and Ei's VAs). But not ALL the ENG VAs didnt make the voice overs BETTER than the rest (well just my opinion). As much as I love Ayato and Itto, those are the examples of getting their personality quite *wrong* esp the voicelines where Ayato tends to be so aggressive than his other counterparts and Itto...yeah, I listen to all his VL and the chasm quest in all his language voice overs, and his portrayal in ENG version back then is just so...yk, so aggressive as well. I do understand your point but yeah, ENG didnt make ALL of the VL better because of their own "twist" bc sometimes, it diverges from their actual personality that youll actually question who is who (this comes from someone who plays at 3 diff voice overs) 🤷🏻🥴

lesser sass is more fitting imo because back then tighnari just looked like a sassy drama dude and it doesn’t quite fit his description as a forest watcher. zach’s voice made tighnari sound like he’s tired of everyone’s shit and it’s more fitting, In My Opinion.

Eng version has its hits and misses, they certainly have taken many creative liberties in localizing, from xiao’s mischaracterization to zhongli’s unique charm.
I don't play in English but new VA sounds a lot more friendly, I don't know why whenever I hear him speak before it felt like he had a hard time being nice or didn't enjoy his job.

I wished i played the archon quest later (and getting tighnari later) because the old voice is so iconic and suits tighnari really well. Really loved how he sounds in the old voiceovers because the voice is just so distinctive from other characters. Wished the VA didn't do the thing he did because the voice he did was awesome. The new Tighnari voice sounds nerdier a bit but i guess it will grow on me over time

I dunno. The new voice feels so much more natural to me. I like the way he uses volume to change nuance in his voice like how he makes his voice softer about adventurers doing their own thing, like he's saying it under his breath.
He sounds more enthusiastic about gathering samples, too, like the nerd he is. You can almost imagine his tail wagging.
Also, his battle lines sound growly. Feels more suitable for combat.
Just out of curiosity. Close your eyes and try to imagine Tighnari talking, focus on face expressions and body movement. Zachary's main career path is acting, and seems that actors often sound more "lifeless" when voice-acting (which makes sense, since acting puts lots of emphasis on body expression.)
Tried it, figured out old voice started to get on my nerves after one second. New voice felt invigorating, like someone who’s walking besides me and freely talking, feeling safe expressing themselves around me. The old one felt more closed off, almost as a toxic person at times, which Tighnari def shouldn’t be. It’s interesting how different each voice actor version is, I love the differences the new va made for Tighnari☺️
I agree. Most of the lines delivered felt like a dead end and lacked personality. One can easily spot what's good acting and what's bad/okay-ish. Voice acting methods be different from being a performer......

Oh! I personally already liked it, but hearing more lines make me believe I can get use to it. The “Heh, can’t see?”, “Heh, let’s nip that in the bud!” and “Who ate a poisonous mushroom this time?…” lines I think was the best ones, and the ones that captured some level of sas. If other lines can match up to them he’ll be a perfect fit, IN MY OPINION of course, I know many dislike this voice and even saying that they will stop playing him because of it. It’s okay to dislike it, but for the people who wants to stop playing him because of it though………..welp- sucks to be you I guess.

Sadly to admit I guess his old voice did suit him but I really do like the little touches the new VA did in the battle lines (including the "ha" for example) The voice direction is really odd, but hopefully his new voice will grow on me :)

tighnari's personality in lore is far from how the old va characterized him though. he's a character consitently described as very kind, not sassy nor arrogant. he has his moments when he's tired of people refusing to listen to his warnings, but outside of that, he's mostly very calm and gentle.

He is young, a prodigy and everyone around him was a bunch of A holes (reason why he left the akademia) and no one usually listens to him till they need his help. Even his best friend keeps making annoying dad jokes when near him, knowing very well he hates it. If he is not sassy from all that, he is just a robot imo. His lines are FULL of irony. The voice was popular and loved in NA bcs of that. It's like when you see Zhongli NA and other languages (He added a ridiculous amount of POWER to the character).

in character story he's implied to be very humble. he always says his life as a forest ranger is fairly simple even though it's evident he has done a lot to reform the forest ranger system and has a lot of achievements as a researcher. he initally disliked the akademiya more because how they'd gatekeep knowledge, as he thinks it's something that should be shared. the one who dislikes how much of an 'asshole' scholars could get is cyno.
he does not hate cyno's jokes. he just doesn't think they're as funny as cyno thought, but he still lets cyno be anyway knowing it's a sign that cyno considers you as close to him or is in a good mood. it's obvious they have the tsukkomi-boke dynamic when it comes to joke. cyno knows when to not joke around with tighnari too, as said in archon quest. see? prev. EN va messed up so bad that y'all think tighnari hates his jokes. in other languages he's more like "sighs.. again?"

I think it's like comparing apples to oranges, both voices have their own vibes, which adds to Tighnaris character. While the old va was sassy and more dramatic, the new one is more "nerdy" and straightforward, (like he's not trying to make an impression, just tells you how it is, idc how to explain)I also like his little "hehe".
The new voice is like a Razor who knows how to talk. I liked the old one so much. I apreciate they gave the new VA all the character's lines and I understand they were forced to change the VA but the old one was so iconic. HE was tighnari. With the new VA he is not my Tighnari anymore. I'm so sad

Sounds slightly more lifeless (not just the sass taken down a few notches), but this is still way better than my initial impression of him and maybe he'll improve with time as he grows more used to playing Tighnari & warms into his new role (just like Paimon's VA did)!
*Edit:* I woke up to find the thread under my comments fighting which I wasn't expecting! *Please stay civil with each other under here guys and don't warp or twist other people's words!* I say that to both sides of the fight under here going on, not just one or the other! Personally, I can see both sides of the argument (minus where it got uncivil). The side that believe he will get better with time and grow into the character. That's exactly what I believe. To me, he just sounds unexperienced as a VA (not to mention the rushing they must have gone through to re-record so many lines in a short time period), but believe he does possess the potential needed to portray Tighnari- to re-summarize everything I already said in my original comment.
And on the other side of those arguing I also see words being warped and twisted from their actual meaning, as someone else under another comment said quote, "The preference of the voice shouldn't be linked to the voice actor, they could get a new voice actor with a similar interpretation of the character. It's just sad it's come to this." - end quote.
As in referring to the interpretation/portrayal of the character being the same, not meaning they want the specific actor himself. Some people find it easier to disassociate the actors voice from the character than others, but this is being misinterpreted and taken as saying the latter. Please do not warp each other's words! Calling any person who sounds similar to Tighnari "triggering" and should not be used is a slippery slope bc by logic that would automatically make all the other well-known VAs who have identical sounding characters from established anime shows also automatically "triggering" just for sounding just like him as well. This is a harmful & dangerously slippery slope to take bc it would deem these innocent people who are not that evil individual as triggering just for sounding like him, which is not only harmful and unfair to those individuals but goes to show the importance of disassociating a character from their VA. His voice should remain the same as Mihoyo intended just with a new VA, but his interpretation/portrayal remaining as unchanged as possible as the company's original intentions/vision for the character. That Eliot creeps' actions should not under any circumstance affect the character, which is exactly what that would be doing. There's no two ways about it, that's what it would be doing.
There were plenty of regular people who also sounded similar sending in samples trying to get noticed that were also among the names passed around on social media and by that logic, all of their voices would be triggering as well. I can't emphasize enough that logic is a slippery slope starting to be against anyone who sounds a certain way bc of one bad individual who is not them and should not affect them, but the person I quoted summed it up perfectly in simpler words.

So I was saying maybe Tighnari's new VA will become more expressive with time as well!

I didn't like the old voice from the beginning and I kind of got used to it but it still didn't feel right but Zachary's voice was really how I initially thought Tighnari's voice should sound, I really enjoy it!
I really love Tighnaris old voice because I’m used to it and since I play him a a lot with English dub and but I’m happy Hoyoverse took action and changed his voice.
I love new voice so much! It's nerdier, more mature and calm, but in battle he sounds like "I'll bury you alive" and the voicelines are much clearer
Tighnari’s voice was my favorite. Especially the voice lines in the desert when he’s suffering from the heat. Now it’s not. Sounds like Mika or someone else. I’m crying.

Coming back here, I realized I was just used to the old tighnari voice back then without judging equally.
The new voice lines are way better. There's this abrupt change in voicelines from sumeru until the new patches (when hsr was released) making the voice lines more descriptive rather than it sounding like it invites children to play the game. This same voice line technique I was talking about is also the same as how hsr does their voice lines: clear, descriptive, full of emotion yet not child-like.

Just comparing them objectively, I prefer the old one. The new one doesn't suit Tighnari very well to me sounding younger, rather than the wise and mature forest ranger the game portrays him as. I get why they radically changed it and all, but i think they could have at least given him a slightly deeper and more calm voice, especially his more active Q and E lines sort of sound like he's trying to do a Sonic impression or something
I mean, the Community all thought Nari's old voice didn't suit him the first time he was introduced; sounding like a bootleg sassy mickey mouse, but grew to the point that lotta liked the voice when it's now abt to be gone.
We'll be used to his new voice then this time too, it's just a matter of time until familiarity bias kicks in again.
tbf a preference will always be subjective - there are different ways to see a character. For example I prefer Barbara's new voice and I think it fits her character better but a lot of people say they think her old voice fit her character better, it's all subjective.

zachary sounds great in these new few lines, i like how he brings his own flavor of sarcasm and spice to the character. he raises the energy to what was previously a good voice, but that was also kind of tired and sluggish. i can't wait to hear his story lines redubbed, i think zachary has a lot of potential.
They are both good voices but the new one is an amazingly close replacement, and he does a better job of making the sass more subtle, which I personally think is a better match for Tighnari's overall character.
The comparison shows just how much character has been put into Tighnari's OG EN voice. I'm gonna miss it so badly.

Agreed. He doesn't sound sassy, he sounds sarcastic - and sarcastic easily comes across as mean. But mostly, to me, this voice sounds immature and whiny. However, I can hear real potential in a few of his lines, so I hope they do re-do them.

I’m on the less popular side of preferring the old voice. The new one is alright, but only *alright.* The old voice had the spice, the sass, and the personality. The new voice is just your generic nerd and pretty emotionless too imo.
My biggest gripe is the “what are they going to do? Lock me up? I dare them!” line. The line is supposed to have irritation and the absolute sass in the voice which I didn’t hear in the new voice.
