  • Join a helper & me as we cut our way through overgrown terraces to find a hidden water pool! This part of the land was so overgrown that I could never access it before. Also I harvest some cherries which means it is officially summertime!

That pool may have been an old "spring house" with a structure over it.
Spring houses were used to keep food like milk and other dairy fresh.
Food would be placed in containers and then placed in the cold water or on shelves of stone.
My grandparents had a spring house on their farm.

Hi Maya, just found your channel. Planning on binge watching this weekend. PS: Are you familiar with Project Kamp. They are also in Portugal, dealing with all the invasive species. And challenges unique to Portugal. They have a lot of research going on about fire prevention options, reintroducing native species, water conservation, etc.

I also am addicted to Project Kamp and asked Maya the same question. I believe both are in Central Portugal. I visited Portugal once in the Fatima area. It was Summer and so dry and brown. I had no idea it was so lush in other regions. There must be a lot of abandoned land that can be bought at reasonable prices. It is really a beautiful country. It would be nice if she met the Project Kamp people and they did a video together 👍🏻

there are several ways to seal it, one is to use cement and sand mix to cover the inside with a 1/4 inch coat, but it can't be wet while you do it, so you have to divert the water first. Another way is to use a plastic liner and then cover that with a cement coat to protect it from damage. A cheaper way is to use an elastomeric paint and cover the entire inner surface. I would fill any voids first to flaten them first before painting them. All of these requires diverting the water first.

I know this was a long time ago, but it might still be helpful when clearing trees. After you cut them down, if you drill a hole into the stump and fill it with Sodium Nitrate and water, the stump will adsorb it into the roots. In about a month, you can fill the hole with diesel fuel and the stump will burn all the way under ground to the roots, just leaving a hole.
