Hi Harry can i contact you privately for advice on mapping a Roland v-drums td 17. on mainstage in midi and a konplete kontrol master keyboard in usb. because the keyboard also plays the drum patterns when that's not what i want. thanks for your feedback.
The 8 tracks on the workspace mixer are for 8 different stems, not separate tracks.. Whoops! (We'll still be using it in part 2 for our stereo rig though!)
Really Nice man, thaks for this easy and quick guide! As an Ableton user, i got reeeally interested in how you setup your current rig. Can you make a followup with some details of it?
Of course! I now have a full Ableton course which breaks down two Ableton rigs I’m currently using if you want an Ableton one, or if you want an updated MainStage one, I can absolutely do that!
I got mainstage in a bundle with logic and final cut and I've actually never used it haha I'm going to be trying this out, really enjoy your videos man!
Hi! Enjoyed the video -- nice job! For many years I had my own jazz trios, etc. -- I'm a vocalist and don't have any experience with this technology. Now though, I have several really nice purchased background tracks -- but require a software, hopefully operated on an Apple MacBook Air or Pro, for live Solo performances with my nice Tracks.. From my junior viewpoint of this technology, I'm wondering if my purchased tracks (rather than self-made as you demonstrated here) would be ideal for Main Stage... In other words, would I be able to program the stopping & starting of songs, key changes, a small amount of mixing, and bringing lyrics onto the rest of the screen -- all with just one simple, stand-alone Laptop? If not, do you know a program that would do what I'm needing? I would love your comments 😀
Thanks so much!! You can do all of that with MainStage, yes! But it might be a little complex for your needs (totally up to you though!). I would keep it simple and just run the tracks from your Laptop, with all the lyrics as PDFs. Not as streamlined, but saves you a bit of money! But the best programme is the one that works for you, so give it a try and see what happens
So I'm doing a musical in about a month and we aren't using a percussion 2 player because of social distancing in the pit and also because it's an outdoor theater with an uncovered pit and it's a PAIN to load big percussion instruments in and out every night....so I've been tasked with trying to combine parts...I may be utilizing this to some extent. I also have a Roland SPDSX that I normally use for the large instruments (timpani, gong, etc.)
This is definitely the way forwards for using percussion on an SPD-SX! I did it for a run of 'Chess' a while back for various timpani parts and gongs, takes a while to setup but once it's there it's amazing!
Absolutely! I believe it's the same as assigning things via MIDI or via the shortcuts. You might need to explore some of the settings, but they'll be there!
On MainStage directly I'm not sure. The only way I can think of is if you export them with the fade before importing them to Mainstage. See what you can find though, as I may be wrong!
For control, depending on what you mean! If you mean to control it during a show, then I use the SPD-SX with MIDI, any MIDI controller, or just the arrow keys. For adding more songs and tracks, that’d be a case of using more patches on the left hand side. You can duplicate each patch as many times as you like!
NEW MainStage Backing Track course! Looking at nothing, all the way through to building a full backing track rig on MainStage that can be controlled with MIDI! Watch on Skillshare skl.sh/3IOjepx OR If you just want to buy the whole course: drumelectric.company.site/
how do I delete a track(stem) and put a new one in its place and have it show up like the original tracks loaded in the performance mode? the wav file doesn't show up no sound
Great question Dan! From memory, I believe that sounds like a format issue. So make sure the WAV you want to replace it with has exactly the same export settings. Then, when you head into the 'Playback' function, hit delete, import, it should all hopefully work again!
I'm wondering - is there a way where I can use Logic Pro X's live loop, have a dedicated hardware mapped for triggering the loops, but then route (clock sync as well) that into Mainstage and use Mainstage purely for playing my live keys? I would setup all the patches in MainStage. I don't want to use Mainstage's playback as i find it's not very good, also I'm creating like a 25-30min non-stop set where I'm going to be doing mash-ups of different songs and require the flexibility of live loops?
Definitely! It'll take a little bit of a setup, but a lot of live shows do exactly that with Ableton, Qlab, and Mainstage. For live looping, I'd highly recommend looking into Ableton. It's definitely possible on Logic, but you can get a lot more flexibility with Ableton. If you're running this from one laptop, it might take up quite a bit of power to run, but I'd look into the IAC driver built into the mac as you can use that to send MIDI signals to and from each software
Yo! this might be a pretty basic question, but what if me and my producer already had the songs prepared for my solo live set (we removed guitar and vocals from the mix) ... can i just toss that mix in there... or does Mainstage favour stems?
This will definitely work! Stems in MainStage gives you a little more control of each level, but as it’s already mixed, you can definitely just throw it in there!
wtf you can't have more than 1 audio file at the same time? What if I wanna have bass, drums and say keys separated, like anyone would want to do for backing tracks in a live setting?

I was just looking for videos for mainstage. This Guy was my teacher for a module at uni!!!!
Hey Ruben!! Great to see you here on the channel!!
Finally a simple explanation to get you (me) started ! Great video, thanks a lot!
Thank you so much!! So happy to hear!
Thanks for making this so simple! Loved it.
Excellent video - I'm hoping to upload pre mixed tracks minus singing for a live concert and this video helped explain a lot about MainStage. Thanks.
Thanks so much, glad I can help!!

thanks for your feedback.
Is there a program on MainStage where you can copy the drumset of a song ?
The 8 tracks on the workspace mixer are for 8 different stems, not separate tracks.. Whoops! (We'll still be using it in part 2 for our stereo rig though!)

That's the winning bundle right there my friend! Thanks so much, I hope it goes well!
Wished you did this on Logic❤

Great stuff. Thanks!!
Hey, can this settup replace the spd-sx internal software? I‘like to trigger and loop sampels in midi mode. Thanks
Absolutely can my friend! I mostly use the SPD-SX through software rather than the machine itself, works a treat!
Great tutorial, thanks! Using and MacBook Pro, Is there a way to trigger play/stop with the space bar, and next/prev with the up/down arrows?
Absolutely! I believe it's the same as assigning things via MIDI or via the shortcuts. You might need to explore some of the settings, but they'll be there!
Is there a way to fade the tracks into each other?
On MainStage directly I'm not sure. The only way I can think of is if you export them with the fade before importing them to Mainstage. See what you can find though, as I may be wrong!
A question, what kind of control do you use and how do you add mores songs with at least 5 tracks each? Thank you for sharing!
For control, depending on what you mean! If you mean to control it during a show, then I use the SPD-SX with MIDI, any MIDI controller, or just the arrow keys.

Hello how can we get your click track 8 note
I created mine in Logic!
can you import karaoke version back tracks to this set up?
Absolutely! They work great!

WITHOUT LOGIC PRO X IS IT MAIN STAGE WORK ITSELF?
Yes! It works by itself!

Please do the click track video. Thanks
Thank you for sharing i use garageband.
yes do abelton backing track rigs!
Video is on the way!

That’s strange, I’ve absolutely had more than 1 at a time! Up to 8, but I’m pretty sure as many as your computer can handle
Great :)
Thanks so much Arthur!!
