Ooh nice! I’ve not connected an iPad directly yet, but I have seen people do this successfully so I recon you can too! In theory, if your iRig can already receive MIDI, it’ll just be a case of changing the MIDI output notes on the SPD-SX Pro to match those you want in Garage band. Let me know how it goes!

I agree! I don’t have a TM6 Pro yet, but as soon as I can get my hands on one you’ll see a bunch of videos from me. Thank you for the support! For a snare, I would look at sample packs from people like Get Good Drums, MixWave, Trigger 2, essentially places that have created amazing drum kit samples rather than trying to find individual snare samples as it’s much easier

Ooh that’s a feature I know of but never got into! I believe it’s called “Trigger Reserve” and is an ‘On/Off’ toggle which is great, as it’s super easy to setup. That’s all I know though, as I never got round to playing with it 🙂

This is one of those situations where you absolutely don’t know until it happens on stage! Had a similar thing with the kick trigger and a Porter & Davies throne. Was weird vibrating the whole gig, but once it’s dialled, it’s a dream.

Probably on the slightly more sensitive side than I’d have it, but definitely very plug and play!

Interesting! If you're using the SPD-SX in it's simplest form, so as a sample pad, I can see no issues with this. The Alesis can be limiting if you're running full backing tracks across a full gig, or you want more than just a sample pad as the functionality is missing what the SPD-SX can do. But, like I said, if you're just using it to play samples, you could definitely replace it

That's right! I believe it can change any sample type to anythin gyou like - but I could be wrong, I use Logic to convert things!

You can absolutely do that!

Annoyingly you’ll have to adjust the tempo outside of the SPD-SX Pro and re-import it from my knowledge!

I use Ableton Standard for everything

I just use Logic or Ableton and export from there. If you don’t have either of those though, Alesis have a free audio converter on their website!

Thanks so much! I don’t think you can record the sounds just with the USB cable, you’d have to take the jack output and put it into an audio interface

There’s two things that come to mind straight away with this sort of thing: 1. Check the original sample settings and whether, on a computer, it’s outputting as loud as other samples 2. Check that ‘dynamics’ is off on the SPD-SX and see if it’s still outputting quietly

That’s amazing! So happy I can help! Having a quick look, I think it’s in that grey area of ‘maybe’, haha! You’d have to use it through MIDI, connecting the ‘MIDI OUT’ of the FCB 1010 to the ‘MIDI IN’ of the SPD-SX and assign control that way, rather than through the foot pedal input

That’s a great question! I know the SPD-SX Pro can do that, but I’m not sure about the SPD-SX

Great questions! 1. Depends on the module. For example, the SPD-SX will just play the same sample louder or quieter depending on how hard you hit it. The SPD-SX Pro and Octapad will go between two samples depending on how hard you hit. If you put any of it through MIDI though, you can then go through something like Get Good Drums where it’ll be a different sample hit depending on how hard you play. 2. Yes absolutely! If you check out my video ‘how to use a drum trigger for a noise gate’, I use MIDI to make it work. That means you can still fire off a sample with it too!

@@DrumElectric Thanks for getting back quickly. 1. Is there ~any~ way for the SPD SX to play variable samples? Even if it’s through a DAW? What DAW do you use for routing samples? 2. I will check that out. Is there any way to change gate sensitivity on board the SPD SX?

Happy to help if I can! What do you want to know about them? I’ve got a few videos on where to find samples, and different ways to play backing tracks

What software are you using? In Logic, you can do to File -> Export, or the master bus has a ‘BNC’ (bounce) button on it that I tend to use

If you get a USB-A to USB-C cable it should be fine, as you’re only transferring the backing tracks onto the iPad

That’s a great question that I don’t actually know! If it’s MIDI map-able, then absolutely yes, as Ableton just see’s the foot switch as a MIDI note

Absolutely! I can’t remember if the Octapad has MIDI through USB, so I’d look at getting some 5-pin MIDI cables and going through an audio interface that has MIDI. Then you can check out my playlist on Ableton and follow the steps for connecting a drum pad! I use the SPD-SX for that video, but the general steps will be the same

You're not late at all! When I used the EAD10, I remember the big thing being the volume between the 'overheads' and the kick and snare being not enough. So I generally turned down the kick trigger and added an external snare trigger, but apart from that, it's all personal preference!

Interesting! I’ve not had that yet, but definitely something I’ve heard of. I wonder if the file is either in the right format, or it’s struggling to read it somehow so you might need to experiment with re-exporting

Great question! If you export the backing track with those on, yes. It can’t change tempo and metric once they’re on the pad, though!

Yes, absolutely! The one in this video is good if you want a feed from the sound engineer to hear the rest of the band and still have control over the click volume. But you can always just use the PM1 and send both backing tracks and click to the sound engineer, and hope they turn the click up loud enough!

I’ve not tried it in session view, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t! Everything I’ve tried on session view from arrangement view has worked!
