"This dude is not right in the head. So sorry to fans of this character"
Oh don't worry, that's what we love about him :)
he's just an autistic lil guy :(
haha, exactly. laios is a dork with some freaky interests, but it's part of why i love him so much lol
Like... does he not know? The "weirder" (aka autism) a character act, the more loved they are by the fandom.
@@catscanhavelittleasalamiyup. Girls love autism and headcanoning everything, even normal things as autistic. And boy do they love infantilizing people
Mandrakes are a little more valuable than carrots. Not that I'm advocating for the sacrifice of dogs, but there's some setting encyclopedia notes that a mandrake restores as much mana as 1000 lemons, which were the next best source they've been able to find.
Mage hands typed this
Skedaddle Skedoodle@@noirerune3833
The thing with using dogs to harvest mandrake is actual lore from the middle ages.
I imagined so, tbh. As someone who studied that age and liked to read old bestiaries and similar stuff, I really sniffed up that specific flavour of logical insane nonsense these medieval lore tidbits have xD
Okay... MARCELLE WAS 100% RIGHT. That "bitter" they were talking about would have ruined a potion. She has a fiend guide not a full text book which probably explains why you don't just cut the head off. Her plan was terrible but...
Best part is, that dog thing is based off ACTUAL MEDIEVAL LORE!
You probably could use something to completely muffle the sound like a deafen spell
@@NoahArrondelle that is a possibility but without full knowledge of the plant and how it interacts with magic there COULD be a reason that wouldn't work. It could be a great new way or it could be something that has been tested and regected.
10:00 we love Chilchuck. King of staying in his lane, completely professional, he’s even uinonized
Voiced by Casey Mongillo.
13:07 I dunno if they do flip the trope on its head, as Marcelle did say that she never tried the technique because she always felt sorry for the dogs. So she does care about dogs lol
"She is working SO HARD; To acconplish soemthing SO DUMB"
Yeah, that's an accurate Adventurer. It is truly the way of the Dungeon Delver to do your best in two situations:
-The Dumbset Plan
&
-The Final Stand.
i think it's kinda funny that you don't think laios and senshi are "realistic" characters. i look at them and see myself and my other autistic friends. marcille, on the other hand, seemed a bit off to me at this point in the series, but she seems normal to you. the variety of human experience is fascinating
I love how they call each other out on their weirdness, but it ends up bringing them closer together
Marcille absolutely does care about Dogs, it’s just that for whatever reason she was taught that was the best way to pull out a mandrake and she figured if they weren’t just using a long rope to do it there much be a good reason.
It's because the method is pulled directly from Medieval lore. Ye Olde Scholars were nuts.
In fairness she does say that she had never actually used that method before because she felt bad for the dog.
'This dude is not right in the head. So sorry to fans of this character"'
My friends and I, who all have some level of neurodivergence, have all agreed Laios is also one of us. Senshi too. But yeah, the way he's hyperfixated and his social bluntness reminds us all too much of ourselves.
Is it accurate to call Senshi neurodivergent? Without spoiling anything, his oddities and obsessions are the result of how he grew up.
@@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworth Both can be true!
Making the characters use dungeon traps to cut and cook the food is such a clever idea
So i love this dub cast so much. I started watching for senshi (prozd/sungwon cho, youtuber and voice of the squirrel dude in god of war ragnarok) and chilchuck (casey mongillo, non binary trans person who voiced shinji in the 2019 evangelion dub as well as the character zoe in the game monster prom) then found out that a character that pops up later, the drawf who left the party, is voiced by marin miller, another non binary va who voiced atyena, tisiphone and alecto in the game hades.
Aw man Chilchuck is played by some confused woman? Ugh
What a great cast!
@@Dracobyte agreed, was a big part of why i watched it dubbed :)
I'm glad to find someone who's watching it dubbed! It's a damn good dub (in spanish too!) it deserves appreciation:]
Can't wait to see what you think of the coming episodes ^^
Yo lo prefiero ver con doblaje latino porque hicieron un excelente trabajo
French dub is also excellent
@enriqueortiz9093 igual
I'm surprised you don't see how much of these series plays like a D&D adventure. You're telling me you've never second guessed about the adquisition of certain material components for spells in dnd? Like ivory, or monster parts... like in every adventuring world there are people killing these animals/monsters only to sell the tusks, stomach or the eyes as spell components. I'm loving watching and reading Dungeon Meshi because of how much it's making me think about these things in my own campaing😅
Oh yeah, next time you watch the opening, look in the bottom left corner when Senshi’s profile pops up in the woods for a little surprise!
My favourite detail about Chilchuck's design is that he's actually unusually tall and slender for a member of his race, meaning by half-foot standards he's very imposing and serious!
And he is married with children.
Laios is… neurodivergent
No
Absolutely, there is no way that man isn’t, especially considering who his va is lmao
@@JustLonelyGhosts he’s definitely not
@@cajunking5987 why not?? He shows so many signs, we can’t know for sure if he is or isn’t until it’s specifically stated, but going off of what we’ve seen of him so far it’s highly likely he is
@@JustLonelyGhosts no he doesn’t lmao he’s extremely normal you teenage girls thing everything is autism
The MC's actions and personality make a lot more sense when you read him as neurodivergent.
If you like food animes, I highly recommend both Restaurant To Another World and Campfire Cooking In Another World With My Absurd Skill. Trust me. They each have unique plot, character and world building. They're both different from each other but they have their best moments.
Damn boy, Don't forget Food Wars, the best of them all!
I love the Autistic man hes just a baby
I watched this in sub so it's interesting seeing you do it with the dub. Always curious about the differences. So far, the characters are pretty consistent.
I love this silly little show. Never in a million years would it have even crossed my mind to watch, but now I am very glad I did.
Also yes, you cannot watch this before eating dinner. With at least one exception.
Honestly, I'd say the dub is better!
The VAs are fantastic, and REALLY put a lot of emotion into their roles. There are a handful of dub-only deliveries that really elevate or add an additional spin to scenes! Laios's VA is especially great.
@@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworth I still prefer the sub but the dub is good. There have been scenes where the meaning changed because of the dialogue they chose to use in the dub.
@@Rutabega_NG | This is true, but it's not like you're getting the full meaning with the sub, either. Japanese is a high-context language, and a lot of that context gets lost with a one-to-one translation. (For example, the closest thing they have to "b*stard" is a very direct "you".)
She doesn’t kill the dog btw
I think the show has mentioned it at this point but resurrection magic is pretty standard in terms of use alongside healing magic so i imagine after the mandrake stops screaming they just res the dog.
I don't know if resurrection magic works on dogs, I do know it doesn't work outside of dungeons.
From what I know, Laios is dealing with autism and ADHD. He's all hyperactive and totally fixated on monsters, not getting why people think it's odd to have interest in eating monsters. To me, he's this funny, sweet, likable Himbo. Just a heads up, though - if you're checking out the series, it's not all that serious in the beginning; it's more like a fun ride with a bunch of lovable idiots.
Jesus not every hobby is a hyperfixation of an autist. Everybody has interests
The author confirmed he is not part of the autistic spectrum.
@@Dracobyteno she didn’t, she very clearly left it to interpretation.
Has someone told him that english Marcille’s VA is the actor for live action Nami for One Piece?
Holy macaroni😮
This main character has a wild hyperfixation haha
You mean hobby.
I always had to eat or drink something while watching this show lmao it was hard to watch them eat tasty food and not have any myself
What you prefer horses or children... yes Dogs.
Ahhhhh!! ive been waiting for this video all day!
I love this show!
LETS GOOOOO
Why would you value monsters and animal that's different than you lived in that world?
Why do you view food animals and Pets as Different in this world?
Book learning versus street learning is always a challenge.... Academic versus the real world!!
Some people see a horrible death trap this party finds a Campground kitchenette.
I really prefer the Japanese voices for these characters tbh.
You clearly haven't heard german Marcille
Same. The dub isn't bad but I really don't like Senshi and Laios' eng voice
If you saw in sub, I would see your reactions, but not for dub
The dub for this show is fantastic
@@Lydia-is4qu I like to watch it in sub, so I'm not interested in watching a reaction to a dubbed version...
I lowkey think that the dub really is better, the voices have so much more personality in my opinion🤷♂
The dub voices are head and shoulders above the Japanese version
While I think the voice acting is good, it's the dub translation which I really don't like
