Your forgeting that Devil Fruits make no scientific fact. They work how they work and the scientific components are not absolute... I mean if Luffy is Rubber than how does his nerves send signals? So its Ruber like not scientifically actually rubber. So if the loss of shadow means no reflection but still being visible then that is simply how it works thanks to the DF. Yes there is eventually an explanation of why DF work that way but its not anytime soon.

A little warning, no spoilers though. Everthing in one piece gets worse before it gets better. Oda is evolving a lot as an author and you are not even in the middle of the evolution. Meaning Sanjis and Brooks behaviour gets worse but it WILL eventually be very better and both will be redeemed. I hated both characters so much for quite some time in the middle of the show but I love them now, Oda slips up around the middle and had to find his way with a few characters again. But he did, it is worth it to endure that shit. Same goes for some storylines, some characters are sidelined for a while but Oda found a way to make up for that, I also find Namis or Chppers behaviour not that great for some time and it is clear that Oda tries stuff all the time, sometimes it doesn't work and he changes it again, which is ultimately really great, ppl go through phases like this. And in retrospect it feels not out of character for the straw hats, it feels like development.

I think nerdy takes sanji's simp gag to seriously, i can on,y remember one or two times it really annoyed me when it actually impacted on the story. But i definitely agree we did not need another character with a similar gag on the show!

The panties thing is a joke about how musicians always get panties thrown at them, some times he asks for money which is because struggling musicians always need money, there's a deeper reason for it which also explains why he's so bad at social situations but I'm not sure if it's a spoiler

I've always cried during that scene, and I didn't your reaction until now because I knew this time it would remind me of my beloved dog who passsed away from cancer last year, and it did. I did what I could for him, he lost a leg, which was a huge thing since he was a big dog, got a little bit better. But then a few months later It came to a point where there was nothing else I could do for him, no cure, cancer was spreading faster, having to acept that he had reached his limit and it would be better for him to rest was very hard for me, Usopp was hoping and fighting for Merry and I can simpathyze with his emotions a lot more now, because that's the natural thing to do when you love something/someone. When Iceburg says to Luffy that he needs to let the Merry rest it's so impactful :'(

I'm so excited that you're finally at Thriller Bark! This ended up becoming one of my personal favorite arcs in one piece. There's a lot of great moments imo- just like there's some not so great moments that have still stuck with me even now, hundreds of episodes later. From the gothic imagery (where you can just tell Oda's influences if you know enough of the literature / mediums) to some of the character interactions / moments, there's so much to love in this arc, just like there's plenty of reason to dislike moments of this arc. As a whole? Honestly, in my opinion, far better than people made it out to be. I'm going to warn you now, just in case no one else does: this arc can be honestly so funny, both in the sub and the dub. The comedy of this arc is so great, and Brook's english voice is done by one of my favorite voice actors, he's done so good with him (I love both his dub and sub voices very much!) Brook is a character that I personally fell in love with. I love corny jokes and that's one of the first things I latched onto with him; but oh man. His backstory may be one of, if not the most, tragic out of the whole crew. You saying "He's going to be my favorite character in like 12 episodes, I just know it" is probably going to be more true than you know.

I'm not defending it because I hate the panties thing too. I think the idea is that Brook hasn't been alone so long that he doesn't know how to be polite, so he harasses people and belches and gets impatient.

Actually I also wanna shoutout Luffy and Usopp's VAs who are also good singers: Mayumi Tanaka and Kappei Yamaguchi. I love both of them but especially Tanaka singing as Luffy because she has so much energy and she tends to carry all the cast songs. I mean I get that they give her the star role because she's the main character but I suspect it's also because they know she can pull it off. And Yamaguchi tends to be the secondary soloist especially in the early albums. The others can also sing but they're not really singers the way Cho, Tanaka and Yamaguchi are, at least that's the vibe I get? (And some of them do struggle a bit with some of the songs ngl) I actually know Yamaguchi's singing better from another show... _cough_

Since Brook is generally not as perverted as Sanji, I always took the panties bit as part of his opening gag. He introduces himself as the Gentleman Skeleton and the first thing he says is the least gentlemanly thing he could ask. I also think it's worth noting that Brook is also 8'9" and dressed like Slash from guns n roses since it almost slips by amid the chaos of the episode.
