i had a baker jeff lenoce deck with pink griptape back in the day and personally i didnt like the shape or skate it that well. im from england and fell in love with Blueprint decks especially the pros decks as the team decks were a different feeling to me or shape. now i havent skated in a while but i last time fell in love with Flip 8.13 decks and never tried a 8.125 but tried 8, 7,75, 7,5 when i started.
I have literally said to myself years ago “getting these 2 guys in the same room geeking over boards neeeeeds to happen” I literally think of professor Schmitt when ever Ben gives in-depth reviews on decks.
professor schmitt is truly a legend in my opinion he is not talked about enough in the skating industry,it would be so great to have him do interviews if he would be down for that with tony hawks and maybe the nine club and other podcasts/skateboard youtubers because he has sooo much knowledge about boards, tricks etc!
This was super rad! Dude, I’d pay money to see more factory and iconic spot tours! Btw, the crispy sound when he places a board on top of another is so satisfying. I might go shop for a 14 inch WB 8.125 board with a big nose from PS now.
@@jafiro3464 yeah I saw that! I think they’re made by BBS tho. I’m currently riding Primitive decks with Indy mids. I feel like a wimp needing such a short wheelbase but it makes everything so much easier and consistent 😆
Mad props for this type content Ben! I'm 38 and been skating with few breaks between since 97ish. I m a residential electrician/carpenter by trade and it's just nice learning about these sorta things and being well informed these days. At one point in my younger days I probably wouldn't even have cared to know but now I do and I appreciate you making it accessible.
Learned alot from professor schmitt's shop tour . One thing i took away from this video is that the dog town ozzy Osbourne deck i just bought was made in his shop . The laser etched engraving he pointed out in his process says ps stix with model #s & that it's # 40 in circulation . Big respect to professor Schmitt & crew . Thank you .
Ben is the first skater I've seen who can keep up with the Professor. Paul is always having to dumb himself down for skateboarders. Ben's carpentry background plus a life long love of skateboarding makes for a great conversation.
Great video! I had the opportunity to visit Paul's workshop, with Sean Cliver last year. It was super cool to watch them sort out some upcoming Strangelove decks and after that, Paul offered to help me make a board. Using his Create-A-Skate template, I designed and cut out the (my) ideal "Zip Zinger" style shape, which was AWESOME! I picked a cruiser so I would have it forever. As a carpenter myself, and OG Schmitt Stix fan of 35 years, I was definitely nerding out. It was fun to poke around in his shop too. I asked a lot of questions and participating in the process solved a lot of mysteries. It was an incredible experience. I got the board custom screened by @rochambo with a picture of my cat, Bowie.🥰
Man, a dream come true i'm sure!! One of my favorite decks way back was a Schmitt Stix Chris Miller with the dog graphic....this vid brought a smile to my face, thanks Ben!!

Great one! The Professor and you Ben talking about deck. That feed my nerdy side ! I really really appreciate all the details, especially when you talk about the Girl shape of the 90. Next episode, the Venture trucks shop!🙌🏼👌🏻
When Ben is talking about the FA board you can see the doctors eyes behind he shades darting around trying to id the laser print and get a head start on the process that’s about to go down. Thanks Ben, Paul & Julio
Such a great video with insightful knowledge to the creation of a skateboard. Love it. So much work goes into one deck. Never gonna complain about standard deck prices ever again 🤓
I'm sure Chocolate did a series of decks with all red plies - I think the graphics were a super minimal tonal script or chunk (square) logo with a different colour for each rider. I remember seeing a cream one in a shop maybe 10 or 12 years ago and it looked pretty distinctive!
Wow that was so amazing to watch! You must have had a blast going through the factory. I would absolutely love to get a tour from the professor and get some boards made.

All these jobs are going to be replaced by robots. That's how the world is evolving. So, this video is an instant archive for humanity. I wish these jobs wouldn't disappear. I really do.
Not really. It is quite hard to replace a worker (in a 3rd world country, I might add) by a robot. Takes a lot of money, research, and effort. Recent years show that it is much easier to replace so-called creative class and/or office workers with an AI software. So software engineers, designers, translates will struggle a lot in the upcoming 5 or 10 years. While some Mexican or Chinese guys still will be doing their sh***y jobs for $2 a day .
Wish the boards from ps stix had a mould number on, I rode a lot of boards from the mould as a kid. had 3 rick howards with the basket ball logo on and progressed the most in that time frame. would be nice to have one in a modern shape like some of the wknd 8.5s i ride now.
My favourite woodshop since I had a Element Natas deck back in 1999!! I just love the kicks in the Professor's boards & the pop too. I still have my old Natas decks because I have such fond memories of those days skating & I swear it was the Professor's boards that helped me improve. Yeah, people are clueless about what it takes to manufacture a quality board. I don't necessarily like paying over $65-70 for a deck but I completely understand why they're selling for that much (tbh $65-70 isn't that expensive). We've just been spoiled for so long, since it took forever for board prices to finally start increasing along with the rise in costs of materials, labor, etc. It's actually crazy boards were only $50 like 4-5 years ago

Omg the measuring tape will be hot in this one
Spoiler alert, we didn't need the measuring tape for this one but there will be another one.
Ha! Well played 👍😊
