    No one saw this coming but looks like the faction conflict is back on the menu. In a new interview Blizzard strongly hinted that some things will be happening in war within that will reignite the Horde VS Alliance conflict. As they say the factions unite in times of need but they always fall out and this time it will be no different.
    This obviously signals that a huge shift has happened in Blizzard's storytelling where until a month ago they might as well have deleted the factions and it seemed like every new race will be neutral as well as capitals but looks like that is not the case. It seems like we may be in for a new wrathgate event that will break the truce, but what this could be, is it going to be with Turalyon who is surprisingly nowhere to be seen in the entire 11.0 storyline, could it be related to the forsaken or maybe even Alleria?So what is this new info and what are we looking at in terms of factions in the world soul saga?

      *Faction wars also just make no god damn sense at this point. The entire progress in BFA especially. And Saurfangs sacrafice, all impactful for booth to realize pointless slaughter was all it is. Racial tensions and sub factiin quarrels are therfor the best alternative. It's just at some point you can only have so many dead and third party big villans to unite over to realize your own people cannot thrive on fields of blood. It's sad to see how poisoned the community has become from BFA's interpretation of faction conflict themes. It can be done really well if NOT through the lens of a Total War.
    Vanilla did it best: the faction conflict loomed in the background as a Cold War that facilitated World PvP and gave Battlegrounds the narrative backing they needed to be enjoyable and fulfilling. Using that narrative direction to facilitate meaningful PvP while continuing to develop cross-faction gameplay systems for practical reasons would be a homerun.

    • @TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm
      @TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm 5 месяцев назад +2

      *You can also just have sub faction/racial conflict. It doesnt have to ne the entire faction being oogabooga war brain. We finally had growth and a permanent progtess led conclusion how no one benefits from war. The Horde now has representative democracy, the Aliance Anduin and his love for peace. And why do people ignore PVP still works as contests like the Argent tournament? It's not like anyone ever actually dies anyway in BGS or Arena.

    • @appellosesso
      @appellosesso 5 месяцев назад

      @@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm I completely agree that subfaction/racial tensions are still an option; as a matter of fact, I think dissolving the factions to facilitate the development of individual cultures and allow for the resurgence of lower level threats is the optimal path for the game's narrative design so that the world feels more dynamic and alive.
      Each zone cluster or each zone would have its own story again that players could interact with and I'm confident that the quest team can implement what they've learned from past expansions to cultivate a really good questing experience for the old world, bit by bit, under this possible narrative path.
      On the topic of PvP: Dragonflight has proven that Free for All PvP themes (via the FFA PvP areas on the Dragon Isles) are unfulfilling and soulless. The gameplay feature of respawning has no bearing on the fact that it still isn't fun to attack your own faction with no basis in the story for such hostility; it doesn't make sense. Arena makes it work, but the goal of arena is to gain rating, which is the source of the fun factor.
      Arena also relies heavily on gladiatorial themes which exist outside of the strict faction conflict tether; a luxury that isn't afforded to Battlegrounds, which are objectively the premier instanced-PvP experience.
      Battlegrounds are tied to conflicts in the story i.e. Battle of Gilneas' Worgen vs Forsaken theme, Warsong Gulch's Night Elven defense of the forest vs Orcish loggers theme, Alterac Valley's Dwarven expeditions vs Frostwolf settlers theme, etc. These wouldn't make sense in a free for all framework, which is why the mercenary system was introduced in WoD.

    • @TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm
      @TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm 5 месяцев назад

      @@appellosesso You misundetstood my PvP argument.
      I didn't talk about free for all. I'm talking about a Argent tourney like faction representing PvP contest, without actuall all out war. The champions of one fought the other. You also got the brawlers guild and more you can utelize.
      Additionally racial factions or sub factions battle each other in bgs. Not tied to the big Faction.
      Like Genn hunting Sylvanas back in legion. There can be narrative for conflict thats not throwing the overall lore progression out the window.

    • @appellosesso
      @appellosesso 5 месяцев назад

      @@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm Thanks for the clarification.
      The Argent Tournament utilized the looming tension between the factions for something more constructive, and it baffles me that it wasn't expanded into PvP when it came out; it would've made for a great arena instance with the addition of a few pillars, or it at least would've been a great precursor for the Dueler's Guild had they opened it up to access without the use of a flying mount; I suppose with the new dungeon and raid both being in the same environment, they didn't want to make it feel like we would spend the whole patch, no matter how we preferred to play, in the confines of the coliseum.
      Jousting was also a really cool activity that I would love to see return in a potential tournament comeback, ideally in a less depressing zone than Icecrown lol.
      If the Brawler's Guild were to return, I'd prefer to see it return relatively unchanged from its solo PvE framework. PvP attention from this point forward should be reallocated to Battlegrounds and World PvP especially. But I digress on these two; the fundamental argument is that there's lots they can do to reinforce player conflict without having to rely on a total war narrative and on that we agree.
      Circling back to the progress that we've made in the lore, it is true that the Horde and Alliance have made great strides in the interest of reformed governance and lasting peace and though the latter is a noble goal from Anduin, it is also perhaps the most difficult one when we factor in Turalyon's control of the Alliance and the other member nations of the Alliance and Horde.
      The Worgen and Forsaken still have a long way to go. The Night Elves still have a lot to work through as well; renewal over revenge is cute and all, but I doubt that all of the Kaldorei are unconditionally on board with that decision.
      The bottom line and what I think we agree on is that the factions have become increasingly two-dimensional since BFA. The Alliance and Horde have been polarized into this static Good vs Evil trope and it made the writers dig the total war hole deeper into a bottomless total peace pit.
      Where we may differ in opinion is that I'd like to see the factions symbolically maintained but partially dissolved to facilitate a more dynamic political landscape on Azeroth and pave the way for more regional threats to return (Bloodsail, Defias, Scarlets, Syndicate, etc.) and new threats to make their debut. This would allow World PvP to flourish in the inevitable world revamp and would also give Battlegrounds a refreshed collection of meaningful conflicts to draw from.

      I think the faction war could come back, but it would be annoying if they did it again without a "total" lore reset. Maybe not everything needs reset. Maybe the world can stay in the state it is since they're doing so much work to update the old world. But the denizens of azeroth need to somehow forget the past or just be entirely different people. If Thrall or Jaina or any of our characters go back to war, it would just seem absolutely stupid.

    I just feel the faction war is important for a proper WoW experience. Without it, it’ll lose to much identity. But they need to keep working on good reasons for the faction conflict to be brought up again.

    • @MenmaL0binho

      Is that the point:
      Doens't make sense anymore go back to fight
      Everyone in charge of horde and Alliance don't want a new war, and for me, this is too much repetitive
      Think:
      The faction war happens in multiples expansions ( MOP and BFA mainly) and the theme of the BFA history war was "stop the infinite conflict, break the cycle"
      If the war returns, the burn of telldrassil and even the death of Saurfang it was gonna be for nothing!
      Is war faction still happen, i hope that they do like, two new factions that substitute horde and Alliance, or just increases to the world, for making new conflits with diferent races fighting eacy other
      Like, imagine how cool it was gonna be if they do something like "Void and light faction", so diferent races of horde and alliance it was gonna split apart in these factions and boom

    If they go down this pointless route again I prefer to have a 3rd neutral faction with all available races.
    A war between Horde and Alliance was already pointless at the end of BfA and to be honest I'm pretty much sick of it.
    (Yeah I know now the PvPer will come and say uuuhhh that is the main reason of WoW bla bla bla.... No it's not, not since WC3. From then on the story and core of the Game was pretty much just a higher force that needed to be dealed with, with both factions united. So PvP set it out to competitive turnaments and arenas and leave it at that... I for my part am sick of Horde and Alliance getting at each others throats again only to be reunited again when the next almost invincible foe turns up.)

  • @mistermort77
    @mistermort77 5 месяцев назад +3

    All depend of what you mean by "conflict". If, by conflict, you mean a big war like during BFA, with massive destructions, then no. But if, by conflict, you mean that you have two factions that don't like and don't trust each other, with new races / countries that join one side because they fear / hate the opposing faction. If, for you, a conflict is a cold war situation, with no real war, but a deep tension between the two opposing forces, then yes. You can't have Warcraft if you don't have a struggle between the Alliance and the Horde. They just need to do it like during Vanilla or BC, and avoid the complete war like during Cata / MOP or BFA.
    I'm curious as to how the factions friction will reignite. Since the last Titan is about the light fanaticism, it would be interesting if Turalyon was the one causing the trouble, even without wanting it (I don't think he's a bad guy by any mean). It would be a nice change from the sempiternal "the Horde caused the war".

It never made sense that for example Horde Druids or Nightborne are part of the burning of Teldrassil in BFA. If Blizzard keeps the factions at war, THEY are the ones that make the choice...NOT the players!
    Let's give a possibility to build some (diplomatic and peaceful) relationship so every players can eventually fight side by side for Azeroth!
    YES! It's World of Warcraft and there will be plenty of evil ones to defeat....Different civilizations on distant planets to come and rescue them and much more!!!

    honestly im tired of the faction war, Alliance has been in a bad way for a LONG time, its been obvious that the horde have been the focus for most of WoW for a LONG while and there are not many alliance players in comparison. Its doesn't make sense at all, We can't pretend the glory days of vanilla will ever come back. its best to just get rid of it. Honestly, even if many in the community don't want that to happen - I'm willing to bet most of them are horde players. Alliance is a Sh** show and it just makes me think every new expansion we keep getting closer and closer to a total demise (I know we wont but its pretty depressing). I just don't really get it. I would honestly like to give up the forced exclusion as it really does seem the majority of players are horde.

    I’d love looooove we are battling doing this huge war and suddenly Yerel just out of the shadows claps at one of our huge events. Just a slow clap and the cave lights up like the sun and there is the king of storm wind and a huge army there to do what was to be done eons ago.

    Faction war is lazy and drawn out. Small conflicts like the human/forsaken meet up in Arathi Highlands was the perfect way to have conflict between factions without needing an entire “war” to resolve it. Sylvanas didn’t attack the humans but killed the deserting forsaken. Obviously Anduin was pissed but Sylvanas had established the conditions of the meet up so she technically was in the right even though Anduin disagreed.
    They’ve been working together for decades and we’re still going to act like faction wars are integral when every other expansion is about working together.

    Now, I agree faction strife was always a massive part of the warcraft ID, it's the core of what the game is based around. But having said that, I really don't care for it anymore that's a storyline problem. It always feels like they force a reason to be at war that feels too..Well, forced. Most of the faction leaders are fairly chill with each other now, with a couple exceptions so having ANOTHER faction war would just feel too artificial at this point

    Another Faction War!? -_-;
    *Sigh*
    Is the Faction War the core/soul of the game? No!
    If it were Blizzard wouldn't bother introducing Third Party Villains like The Scourge, The Legion, The Old Gods, and many more. And Blizzard wouldn't bother to have a Plot in the game in the first place because the point of a Plot is to have some Progression. Progress are particularly important in the the story, as they keeps the Audience invested, particularly through the middle of the story. If there is no sense of progress, then the Audience feels as if the plot isn't going anywhere. Because we want Payoff is what fulfills the promises of progress. It rewards the Audience for sticking around, and if done properly, creates a feeling of satisfaction at the end of the story.
    No Payoff, there is no enjoyment in the story, and people will lose interest.
    So having the Faction War back in future Expansions will simply rewinds everything that happened during the course of the story, and it will guarantee that a lot of player will quit WoW because for the Character's Assassination, and all the Progress that they have in all the expassions means nothing because Blizzard just Retcorn, or rewind everything to fit a narration for the story. While Warcraft 1 was Orcs VS Humans and Warcraft 2 was Alliance VS Horde, but people seem to completely forget that the point of Warcraft 3 and later Battle For Azeroth it's about the factions moving past their hatred that there are not reason to keep fighting one at another.
    So The Faction War is over, Blizzard! Stop trying to bring it back!

It's a theme that has been beaten into the ground by this point and makes no sense considering ALL of the forces that want Horde and Alliance Dead 24/7. Why keep fighting when most of the leadership on both sides have friends on the other side and major leaders are desperate for long standing peace so the world can FINALLY rebuild.

    I seriously hope not because the faction conflict is so fucking dumb at this point. It's a tired storyline that doesn't add any more depth to the Horde and The Alliance. Why does the *current* Horde hate the *Current* Alliance or vice versa? The old reasons for the conflict are so ancient no one really cares or refers to them anymore. Most of it just amounts to 'Horde bad' or 'Alliance bad' with no real good argument for either side. I'm coming at this as a Wow Veteran that has played seriously since the end of Vanilla when I was little, so I'm not coming at this from no experience.

    If they are doing a "Wrath gate like event" I hope they do use Turalyon for it and really highlight that he is the immortal warrior of 10,000 battlefields.
    It wouldn't be a big 'betrayal', it would be a pragmatic decision in a losing battle.
    Some gambit without honor that causes heavy loses for the horde, but wins the day.
    In a situation like that Turalyon and the Alliance aren't 'evil'
    However, the genuine horde counter perspective is that they would have won anyway. They didn't need those Alliance tricks that killed so many of them.
    Hell throw in some chekhovs gun, an artifact the horde intended to use in this battle to win, but didn't get a chance to.
    Turalyon butchered their soldiers and cursed them to honorless deaths.
    He won't apologize either, he didn't do anything wrong, generals make hard choices and his choices found victory.
    Something adjacent to that lets each faction be the hero of their own side of the story.
    I also just don't see "The Battle for Stormwind" where we kick in the doors to the castle the kill some dissident nobles akin to the post-warthgate campaign.

  • @piketheknight2581

    Honestly the initial identity of the horde, as misfits trying to survive together in a place that doesn't want them is something that wouldn't probably endure forever. At some point they would tame their lands. Things cannot stay stagnant together
    Also The conflict you talk about I'm sure it will be in small scales(like the racist nelf in classic questline).
