In a world where much of our time is spent listening to unwanted sounds, few songs and even fewer voices truly stand out as original. This is one of them.
This song gives Wallander its unique enchanting atmosphere. Perfect.
I agree :)
From the very first time I heard this haunting song on "Wallander", I've never forgotten it's melodic fusion of folk, chamer and ballad perfection! So glad I've found this group of talented musicians with Emily Baker's vocals; simply perfect~
This cute little song should be much mightier in the "millions of views"......support Emily Barker's music...BUY IT!!...she's well worthy of folk reaching deep into their pockets...imagine many more songs from her...artists need to be paid just like everyone else.
THIS SONG IS SUPERB.
I always found the Wallaner version stirring. This version makes me cry.
I have just watched the first three seasons of wallander. Forgot about how good an actor sir kenneth brannagh is. The depth and emotion he has brought to the part is outstanding. Never seen the sweedish version. Great theme song too xx
Great song. Someone gave me a copy of the 'Despite the Snow' album a few years ago. I saw her sing it in a tiny village hall in the North Yorkshire Moors in November 2017. Wonderful. Never watched Wallander. Well, not until the other night, when I only managed to stay awake for the first half hour of the episode about a birdwatcher and orchid collector going missing! No reflection on the quality of the programme; more a reflection on a mentally exhausting week. I will try to watch another episode soon!
There's a sombre, lonely, plaintive mood to this song, evoked by the exquisite emotion-laden voice of Emily Barker, that strikes right to the heart. Haunting might not be the right word---but this song definitely gets in under the skin. Beautiful. Poetry in song!
Hauntingly gorgeous. Wallander forever.
Tram wires cross Melbourne skies
Cut my red heart in two
My knuckles bleed down Johnston street
On a door that shouldn't be in front of me
Twelve thousand miles away from your smile
I'm twelve thousand miles away from me
Standing on the corner of Brunswick
Got the rain coming down and mascara on my cheek
Oh whisper me words in the shape of a bay
Shelter my love from the wind and the rain
Crow fly be my alibi
And return this fable on your wing
Take it far away to where gypsies play
Beneath metal stars by the bridge
Oh write me a beacon so I know the way
Guide my love through night and through day
Only the sunset knows my blind desire for the fleeting
Only the moon understands the beauty of love
When held by a hand like the aura of nostalgia
Beautiful song. And such a remind of Melbourne where I grew up. Kudos.
I recently did a gig right on the corner where I wrote lots of these lyrics. At the Worker's Club in Melbourne. Was quite surreal to perform the song there.
Still the greatest television show I have ever seen.
Try Borgen
This song was obviously not initially written for the series, but it was written for Wallander the character. A tragic and lonely man who had so much promise, kind hearted and ends his life with the disease of forgetting... tragic character who desevred better in life.
When listening to this song, a thought occured to me. When you're 12,000 miles away, it doesn't matter which direction you travel to get there..
At first when hearing Emily Barker singing this song I thought it was our own "Melanie" Safka! :) There voices both light the same flame! .....perhaps you'd be in your 60's to comprehend it...... classical, rock, country and folk...beatiful!
Very lovely! I, too, was introduced to her by watching Wallendar. Very happy to hear of her & her group!
Stunning voice,so natural, without effects or vocal acrobatics and,so hard to find nowadays! Thanks to Wallander (Kenneth Branagh version), which I’ve just started watching on Netflix,I’ve discovered her wonderful music 🙏🏻👏👏👏👏
This makes me want to cry and smile at the same time.
Love Wallander and this beautiful song.
So haunting and amazing. I've fallen in love with this group.

Their latest album is very good. Well worth buying! Saw them at The Greenman festival: very good live too! Found their music sublime.

Hi, Melanie is my first cousin, so perhaps I am biased-but her extraordinary voice and vocal style is indeed an unsung, pardon the pun, influence on so many of the great contemporary female vocalists. On behalf of her I thank you!

Take part in the 'Storm the charts' movement, to get independent musicians like Emily into the charts for a week 27.06 - 4.07.10 , instead of the big labels!!
Wallander :)
makes your skin cawl and tingle in the most delicious way :P
I like this song very much.. Kurt brought me to this page! What's this song's genre?
Why do I find all my favorites because of TV shows? IT's embarrassing :)
Emily is Australian but don't let that sop you wanting to go to Sweden. I lived there for ten years and regret leaving.
prachtig!
Wonderful song! Beautiful, haunting, and perfectly executed. Shooting the video of you walking through the rape flowers, matching the opening scene of the first Wallander episode was a great idea. Well done!
Missing him.....
xoxo from me to u Emily
try the shadow line's version of pause for size
she's got something going on here...something good.
I love this song. Just the last minute where she starts screaming ruins it for me.
gotta agree....that last minute is a struggle....like fingernails scratching a blackboard...perfect theme for Wallander.
Wranglerstar sent me
Love this song! I'm starting to see a resemblance between Emily Barker and Lindsey Stirling! Hmmmm

wranglerstar!
Nine dislikes for this song?!!!! Do they have hearing problems?
JennyGSS one may say tis....nine crimes
I got Now 82 which is kind of the a contradiction to the video.
It's sad that you can't appreciate Branagh's Wallander as much as you can Henriksson's. You limit yourself.
Thought it was Jewel, glad it's not!
This song is truly beautiful but still Wallander is the most depressing show I've ever seen...... :'(
When I read the first books I immediatley thought of Rolf Lassgard who then wnet on to play the role. I long refused to accept Henriksson as Wallander. I got round to appreciating him later on. Than came Branagh whom I like very much and who does a fine Wallander. The whole production of the series was fantastic except for one thing: the language. As a swedish speaker the British accents irritated the hell out of me. It simply seems wrong...
in my opinion, krister henriksson is the one and only wallander.i don't like kenneth branagh very much.
