The thing is I want u all to pay attention to what I am about to say u have to look at things from an financial and economical level not from a personal level I heard her mention in her video they increased her salary by only 1% to account for inflation what I learned is yes they increase wages and salaries after inflation and the cost of living has increased and inflation and the cost of living is increasing by much more than 1% a year it’s increasing by 9% a year so when y’all think about it if u don’t have your money sitting into an asset or if your not doing anything where your money is multiplying constantly even though it may not do it predictably by sticking at a job like caregiver or even an event security or even working for Meta u will still be behind the cost of living and inflation because all wages and salaries that are being paid to everyday people aren’t competing against the cost of living nor inflation it’s to keep u behind so u keep working and striving for what u will never have and for u will never be in between u also have to pay for your rent light food and if u have a car your car note gas/transportation so u technically are stuck in a rot

But it doesn’t have to be this why I have recently started back doing one of the not so easy but not impossible for everyday people to do and i know a lot of people try to sell everyone onto real estate and affiliate marketing and multi level marketing or print on demand of having your own business or getting paid online by doing surveys or playing video games or by telling u to invest in the stock market through stocks bonds mutual funds or even by saving through traditional savings like irs or a cd the problem with all of these things is that they don’t produce outcomes that is in a timeframe suitable for everyday people and in uncertainty times today we don’t have much time to waist they also require a decent amount of money to even start off

I quit my 10 year career due to depression , anxiety, high levels of stress and physical health decline. I didn't put myself first but instead put my career first. I tried my best to get an award each year, especially during covid, I overworked... but no award. I dedicated myself so I can be recognized but in the end, they didn't care when I submitted my resignation. You can be instantly be replaced and your work productivity won't mean anything. I lost so many family members along the way too, and some I could not attend their funerals because of work. It really sucked. Put yourself first people. I wish I took better care of myself but its not too late... I'll get back to 100% myself because I am feeling different... happier and free... no stress.

I will have to write another comment, because when you started talking about how work started to affect your mental health and how it all drained your energy, it was unbelievable, but it was as if I was listening to my life story. Simply, work took away my energy, mentally health, I neglected my friends and even my family, and what hurt me the most was that I stopped smiling, and people used to recognize me by my wide smile. Now it will finally come to an end, I hope, I'm going to make my dreams come true, so let it be whatever happens. I totally understand and resonated with you. I quit my stable job as a software engineer for 7 years when my son was born and I was very frustrated with how little time I could spend with him. You only get those years once and while it certainly wasn't the best financial decision, I don't regret it! It's only through retrospect that I realized I felt pointless in a huge corporate machine, failing to find any meaning. Now that my son is in preschool, I'm older and wiser I finally feel ready to rejoin but have to decide to pursue a more meaningful career though it actually will bring me less financial stability.

I quit my job in September 2023. I was putting in almost 9 to 10 hours a day, and they tried to force me to come back into the office even though i was told i could work from home permanently. I would have been dedicating almost 12 hours a day there(1 and a half hours getting ready driving there and back). It would have been too much stress. Also, some of the people I would have been going back into the office to work with were some of the most toxic human beings on planet earth. They were a bunch trouble makers and all I wanted to do was do my job and go home. It has been a month since I quit. I'm a lot happier and my blood pressure has dropped significantly. I'm now looking for a new position and living my best life.

But this new job my supervisor keeps telling me to keep the transactions at the counter to 5 mins max and not to overstate “extra” information or else “they would get the wrong idea/direction.” She keeps micromanaging and cutting into my transactions by saying just go to x floor. Also she has grandstanded numerous times by proclaiming even though she knows the answer she won’t tell them and sends them to another department because it’s not her job to explain it. And your job is to only x, y, and z. Seems all of this is just so she doesn’t have to deal with additional questions (I’m still training). All these questions you posed are all very good questions, especially the last one.
I'm currently working in retail and there's been a lot of changes in working conditions for the company I'm working for I'm slowly getting burned out and feeling like nothing about the job feels meaningful to me anymore. (Have been thinking of quitting, too.) And when I heard your last question, it just hits me how much of an a**hole and irritable and angry I've become these past months when dealing with people, even with my family. When compared to how I was when I first started the job... I just don't feel like old myself anymore.
Also, when you talked about difficulty thinking and making decisions (which includes the question of whether to quit or not), it's just like there's a bulb lights up in my head. I remember thinking while you touched on that subject, “Oh, so that's what's going on with me!” I thought it only affects stuff like concentration or being blank most of the time. Thank you for the enlightenment!
I'm still having difficulty deciding on whether to quit my retail job or not (one more thing I've figured out about myself is that I like to overthink and worry about a lot of things), but thank you for making that decision making process a little bit easier for me with this video.

My job let me go over 6 months ago and I knew my time was coming because of how I was being treated. I was considering quitting but the favor was done for me. I can honestly say I've been much happier especially mentally.
I may pick up a side gig and make money that way. Working with others has become more difficult these days which makes jobs not worthwhile.

Totally felt this. I got let go from a stable job toward the end of 2022, right before the Christmas holidays - it was very sudden and unexpected. The way things were handled was pretty stone cold. No warning. No decency. No willingness to move me to another area. I thought I finally found my place, but I was completely wrong in the end. It still triggers me to this day when the thought circles back. I haven't applied to another job since and I don't think I want to; that realization has become the silver lining. I've been an entrepreneur at heart from a young age, but it was always something I just did on the side and never took seriously. I'm multi-passionate, so I figure might as well take all the things I enjoy (and that I know I'm good at) and turn it into something great. Sounds like you've arrived at a similar realization for yourself. Best of luck to you!

I’m not okay with how much of my energy goes to my job each week, but I’m definitely not quitting to “follow my dreams”. Instead I will find a way to make my dreams work, THEN quit my job”. Your stable 100K job protects you from the worst type of stress and anxiety, which is financial stress and not knowing how you are gonna pay the bills…. It’s okay that a lot of people want out of the 9 to 5 world, but be smart about making your exit 💯

I've reached the point of looking on making a good chapter of my life after a long years of battling life securities. Everyone would get to the same point as I did, but I suggest before that time comes, make sure you have some of the life necessities about to get in place - property assets and financial stability.

At first I actually felt guilty for giving up my safe source of income, especially since my family was so proud that I got this job. but hearing stories like yours helps solidify that it isn't (and shouldn't be) all about the income. I am fortunate that I already have a part-time job that I'm able to make full time over the summer as I do not even have the mental energy to apply on new jobs. Between the poor pay, poor environment, and the fact that you are spending your time and energy with other people who come to you with problems ONLY. Not solutions, or anything positive, it's pretty much all negative and you have to remain positive and provide service to people going through the lowest points of their life. It's impossible for it not to affect your personal health and wellbeing. It's honestly not worth the trade off and it keeps you from thriving and enjoying in other areas of your life for sure. I quit my job recently too and my experience was a bit different to Audrey's so I'm gonna add a couple extra questions to this. I asked myself "How do I feel when I wake up each morning?" and that helped me realise how miserable and what a struggle every day was.
Another thing was I'd grown so accustomed to feeling so shit that I kinda just thought this is how life is. I only realised through looking back at jobs/education I'd been through in the past that I'd enjoyed more, and the way I did that was by hearing music I'd listened to a lot at that time or by finding my old lecture notes from uni. Also by remembering how although I found my degree tough and it was overwhelming sometimes, I always said I enjoyed it overall, found it rewarding and cared about it, and that simply wasn't the case for this job which I didn't enjoy and didn't give a shit about.
I'd also like to say that I was actually working in a (on paper) very good job, good salary, good company, good benefits, nice colleagues, good career prospects. I could have maybe been promoted in the not-too-distant future with a nice pay rise. But I left it all behind to enter the unknown and thank God I did because I was anxious and miserable, I haven't looked back once :)

My work situation is such a paradox and I hate it. My current job is literally the best job I’ve ever had and the easiest money I’ll ever make, but it’s so far away for someone who doesn’t drive.
I have a combined 4.5 hour daily bus commute (2 or 2.5 hours each way) and I don’t know how much more I can take.
I had to take this week off so I could rest. It doesn’t make financial sense for me to get a car or move closer to my job as the whole point is to just build up my savings.
I’m really thinking I can’t go any further and it’s not like my job will progress me, either. I work in a call center for a non-profit and we just went through a layoff a couple weeks back…

I clicked on this video because I wanted to quit my school. I spent a long time studying in middle school in order to get good results and get into the university but after a year I found that this is not what I wanted and I feel very sad everyday. I want to spent the most valuable years in my life to do things I wanted and chase for my dream. But there are several reasons that I am still not quitting my study and I have been very frustrated in thinking quit or not.

I'm on the same boat when it comes to climbing the ladder in my industry. Becoming a project manager in architecture means coordinating and getting people to do all the work its takes to put drawing set together. I love 3d modeling and drawing details so that means giving up the majority of my time doing that and making calls and emails instead. Not to mention convincing interns and lower level employees to work overtime to meet unrealistic deadlines not even set by the PM's. I'm hoping to divert into another area of the industry into the BIM manager roles, so that at least I still have my foot in the 3d world and may even still get to model and troubleshoot models for ppl and can consult other industries that use BIM. I would like to be a consultant or contractor for BIM, so that i'm not tied to one company and their success.

I am not motivated anymore because I feel so exhausted. I know I am burnt out. I am giving myself about 1 more month. It would be 5 years in this company for me by then. I quit my job a month ago after 21 years. My workplace environment had eroded over the last decade. There was no work/life balance or sense of teamwork. My employer refused to hire new employees and put the extra hours on my staff's back. 60 hours a week became the norm (12 hour shifts five days a week). My last supervisor got his position by default. He was lazy, juvenile and ironically a micromanager. I called him out on his nonsense and quit on the spot.
I have never felt so free. Half a year's salary saved up and a bachelors degree. I can chill for a minute while looking for a job in my field. All I have is options.

i'm watching this video for my girlfriend lol... jokes aside, it was for me. i don't have a prestigious title & a high salary, but i do feel like i'm fighting against being homeless (i was homeless before in an RV & a 2 door car. it felt bad). i wanted to quit my sushi restaurant desperately, but i have now decided to stay bc your video made me think a little more rationally (& also lightened up my mood :D). ofc i had no career advancement as a server, but it is making me good money (& tips) to work towards my dream. i was thinking about quitting bc it was seriously affecting my mental health and changing my personality outside of work. i also had difficulties thinking & making decisions, including whether to quit or not. to fix this, i've just become a quiet quitter.. (i used to do this before it was a thing, but i haven't worked under a boss in the beverage industry for almost 2 years so i guess i'm a bit rusty). anyways, i've just started setting better boundaries at work on the low. sometimes my job will drag all the energy out of me working with a toxic employee and i'm usually the one who expects the other person to change by example. now, i don't put any energy towards him (bc it becomes negative energy anyways) and just put my energy towards working around him with my manager & coworkers (aka using my energy in a more positive way).
anyways, i had difficulty wondering if i can actually be my best self while working at this restaurant. at first i didn't, but upon watching other 14 other videos, of which 2 is yours, i decided i just needed to use my energy more wisely & do what i'm paid to do for my overall health (mental, physical, emotional). the most difficult thing at first was feeling guilty i was doing it, but upon deep thinking, it makes sense in every way and i'm starting to get used to it and feeling less and less guilty. plus my employer doesn't mind these past 9 days (or more.. a lot more), so i guess i do have it lucky for now. it makes sense that i'm completely replaceable, and worst case scenario is i will just fall into a different restaurant or focus on side gigs like food delivery service, amazon deliveries, grocery delivery service, etc (which i might or might not like better). in perspective, that's not bad. more importantly, my health should always come first, & that should not be understated. i'm not here to die & give my life for a job i don't care about. i'm still doing a good job, just only the job i'm paid to do . i do have a special skill of working really hard and really fast & effectively, but it gets abused a lot bc this one coworker decides to abuse me more the harder i work, all the while not getting his own job done and giving it to anyone he can take advantage of. all i had to do now was to not give energy towards him and communicate towards my manager (which i'm lucky bc he's trying to take actions to fix this), and i won't let him take advantage of me anymore. he is really hard headed at times and doesn't do his job even if told right in front of his face unless he gets micromanaged & that's just too much energy for what i'm paid to do (even for my manager). i can still work hard, fast, effectively, but i won't let him use up my precious energy that i have if i deem it as abuse. i also work with my coworkers now (2 nice people who have been there for 7 years) to not let him abuse my energy, so it's nice that there is teamwork and a kind of friendliness around protecting my energy and i can feel more safe at work. my energy is valuable, and i rather use it for my own good than for his.
one more reason i won't quit, is that i still have a lot to learn. i can still grow as a server. i know, sounds pathetic. growing as a server? a server isn't a prestige title like a doctor or consultant. but it's just a personal thing: i like growing. and having only been in the food (& a little bit of alcohol) industry for 7 months, there are lots of opportunities for me to grow, whereas when i was in a boba shop (with nearly 2.5 years of experience) as a barista & shift lead, my growth stopped at a certain point, & it was just too boring. i would've stayed if i made a decent salary, but i wasn't. in the end, i believe the salary at this job is enough for me to keep going until my dreams are accomplished.
i gotta poop now, abrupt ending to a deep comment :D
p.s. one more reason i won't quit (and probably the most important): as a college dropout (with no regrets after 6.5 years), this is the best salary with the best work-life balance i can possibly have in my situation. it could always be worse, so i do feel truly grateful, but i'm also always looking to better my life and my situation, and hopefully one day, start helping others. i feel that is my life purpose through everything i do. i will work hard until one day, i let my dreams pay for my mindful and frugal lifestyle. of course i'm scared, but i've accepted that this is the path i'm going to walk, and i will rather die happily on this path knowing i did everything i could instead of going after something that doesn't interest & excite me. in other words, unless i can find a better solution, this work-life balance of about an average of 30 hours per week working & getting paid enough to fund my dreams is the best thing i can do for my future.

The food service industry can be very draining, I give you a lot of credit for hanging in there! You're so right about having firm boundaries. If you don't, people will steamroll you. I'm glad you have the 2 good supportive coworkers that you mentioned. And I'm with you, my whole purpose is to do what I can to help people, in whatever way, whatever job I'm doing. (I think I've done a little of everything at this point).
      Keep shining! 💖
