I can relate to all of this but I'll give a perspective from someone a little older. I'm 41 and I left my last position working for someone else back in my 20s. I saw your other video and your story is almost identical to my own. I started my career right out of college in an amazing position, at a great company. Five years into my career, I was sitting in a pointless weekly Monday morning status meeting and all I could think was "this is wasting my life." I got up, walked back to my desk and wrote my resignation. I started my business the next day.
But I was ready. I had savings. I had leads on contract work I could dive right into. I had a business plan I'd been working on for months. That was just the day I'd officially had enough.
I did have a marriage, a kid on the way, and a brand new home. But I was prepared. I always tell my friends about how prepared I was when they talk about quitting their jobs. But it's completely possible. I actually did it the exact same way my dad did. And my life as a kid was better because I had a dad who worked for himself and I wanted that same life for my kids. 13.5 years since I turned in that resignation and it's still going great.

I just got my dream job 3 months ago, and now I just handed in my resignation letter. After the first month of work I never had time for myself, I don't eat well or sleep well and my body became weak, I once almost collapsed when I went to the market and my weekends were literally another weekday.
At first I thought it was normal and it would get better, it didn't and I got scared because I just started and nothing was improving and my boss would complain I was lagging behind even when I was at my sleepless night best. I couldn't even keep another job because this job took up my full day everyday, I had a conversation about it with my boss and tried to explain why I was lagging behind and I was told I'm not the only one with other things going on in their life and nothing improved if anything it got worse and I even got verbal insults. Now I've handed in my letter suddenly working became better and I got scared I made the wrong choice to quite. Honestly it's talks with friends and more experienced people that helped my put my foot down in leaving my job.
I really hope this was the right step

I've been around a long time. When interviewing or even just researching a job the red flags are there. Lack of respect for work life balance. Political environment with less capable managers. A 90 minute or 2 hour commute with logistical issues. Or bad tech / systems they will make you use. Whatever it is, trust your instincts. Shop around. There will be another opportunity with similar pay and no flags.

You are not alone, I quit my last job first time in my life I left a job on my own. I was not sleeping or eating much, Monday felt like Friday. Three people left earlier in the year, they didn't replace any of them just shifted more work around. I was maybe sleeping two or three hours a night and then asked for vacation and they said no too many people were out. I guess that was kind of the straw that broke the back. Now I am taking care of myself not really looking hard and going to the gym,. Got rid of eating cereal and started eating better. Now I feel better but still have some medical issues. 9-5 downtown in a cubical just is not for me anymore.

    • @scotttild
      @scotttild 3 дня назад

@@skepticbb93 I always ask why the last person in the position left. If they keep hiring over and over again that is a huge red flag. Sometimes they will tell you and be honest other times they give vague answers but at least ask. Anything over a hour commute is a non starter for anyone I would say. People just don't last when they have a long commute.

You have to carefully assess yourself. This is my weekly topic for my own subscribers. Career. One thing that can really bring a person into depression is 40 hours a week of hating their job. The job is literally almost half of the waking life. The problem many people have is that they have a craving for security. The person will tolerate being unhappy if that is their normality. People would rather have secure bitterness than the fear of stepping off the cliff. The fact is that you can change your career anytime. At 40 or 50. I once knew a car salesman of 30 years who did really well but started to hate his job--so became a nurse at 57. He is now a travel contractor. His friends told him he would be 57 by the time he got licensed as an RN. He told them he would be 57 anyway. So he will now spend the next ten years doing something he likes instead of something he hates. But you have to decide if it is life on the sea you hate or just that ship you're traveling on. In other words--do you hate your trade or just the company you're at? But whatever you aren't happy with you must change and continue to advance yourself. Hope this helps someone---Charles.

I hope this new endeavor works out for you. A lot of the things you talked about really made sense to me. I was laid off from my job after 33 years in corporate America. I was lucky enough to leave with a severance package that allowed me to take a step back to consider my next move. I have quickly realized that I should have left the company several years prior to the layoff. After 10 months at home feeling frustrated while trying to get a home business off the ground you are making some really good points. I will continue to watch your videos for inspiration and guidance as I too move along this dark, scary new path. Thank you!

My savings technique: first I saved for things I wanted but once I saved enough I'd move the goalpost. Then I saved for freedom, enough to replace something if it broke, then I saved to buy back my time and give myself breathing room to make my own decisions about my life. Money for rent, food, school for the kids etc. We saved enough that we can quit (my wife did and is employed again) or move overseas towards new opportunities. Most of the money I spent was done trying to make myself feel better about my work so I saved to buy back my own peace of mind and freedom. :)

The last 2 years however, were what you described. Toxic workplace that wrecked my mental health, toxic leadership that wrecked the community (everyone looking out for their own best interest instead of the good of the group), shifting away from structured and purposeful work to more degrading, meaningless details wrecking my basic desire to apply myself. It made me realize that decent pay and benefits are worthless if my mental health is in the ditch and I'm never happy. Decent pay and benefits are well and good if you can be happy, but it's more important to be happy, even if you have to sacrifice your buying power.

True story. In 2013 I quit my job to fulfill my dream of owning a home in a state almost halfway across the country. I didn’t have a job lined up & drove my son & our dog to our new place. I chose not to work for 7 months (was financially able to do this) & landed a great job. Still at this job after almost 10 years, but I’m feeling that pull to get up and go again. My son is now 23 & has been living on his own. My job values me (even gave me two raises totaling 18% within 10 months time, but I am no longer feeling fulfilled or connected to what I do. I just told them yesterday that I want to cut my hours & they agreed. Luckily, I also accrue a LOT of vacation time, so I’m going to use that time to figure out the next chapter in my life.

I've just recovered after having a breakdown a few minutes ago because I'd have to go to work again tomorrow. I've tried everything to motivate myself, watched a lot of videos that tell me to be rational about my decisions. Still, here I am, lying in bed having drank my calming medicine and the thought that tomorrow is coming still fills me with dread. I think it's enough reason for me to quit. I don't even want to pursue happiness. I just want to escape this hell hole.

I climbed the corporate ladder, made it to executive director in one of the top investment bank but I can’t take it anymore. I have saved up and can provide for the next 2 years but I have not build any other income stream over the years. Moral of the story, the more you wait, the harder it gets… more responsibilities at work, family etc. Regardless, I’m ready to move on and live the rest of my life on my own terms.

Same advice I give on other posts.

I just found your channel, and I have to say, having left my dream job due to overwhelming mismanagement I became drained and passionless.
I slowly recovered and realize that people always have the worse case scenario view of me leaving a good job after job hunting for over a year.
Time passes and I accepted that I need a better job that respects and values my expertise.

Technically, I don't want to quit my job - I don't have one. I'm still in high school, so I think it's kind of normal. What I want is to get educated as far as possible about financial freedom, side hustles, investing and how to be able to control my own life. With that being said, thank you for all your amazing and helpful videos, you're doing a terrific job!!!

I've been working for this company for a year now. I managed to become a top performer for 5 consecutive months, learned new systems within the company that would make me more valuable... New people joining have been under my charge with no additional salary nor a change of position. I want to quit because there are people who joined recently who have managed to move up and actually become my boss... The same people I trained when they joined. I really feel undervalued, looked over, not important, and replaceable. So now! I'm looking to become a top performer for myself. I no longer will give of myself to accomplish someone else's dream, especially when I feel taken advantage of. That's why I'm here, I don't know where to start but I know I need a change.

Bro I have the exact opposite problem as you, I stay for a really long time at a job. I have been at the same job that pays crappy by the way for 10 years, and I feel like I am stuck in a rut that I cannot get out of. I have a very strong desire to go elsewhere as the pay sucks, the benefits suck, and management sucks. I have been looking for a few weeks now, and will continue to look as I have a degree in Network Management, and would love to do that for sure!! I have never wanted to leave somewhere more than where I work right now!! I think I have a huge amount of fear to leave mainly because I have been there for so long, but I am very unhappy and have to leave for a much better opportunity very soon! So to all of the people out there who are unhappy with your job, don't be stupid like me and stay for years, find a better opportunity and pursue it with everything you have! Great video by the way!!

Love your content even though I’m retired at age 59. I can relate only because I retired earlier this year and felt guilty because I chose to retire during a time when many people are losing their jobs or not doing well . Like yours, it was a great corporate job with great pay and benefits but it was soulless and no longer gratifying. I love your humor and style, keep it up. One criticism, check your spelling.

Don't feel guilty about retiring. Doing that opens up a job opportunity for someone else! Besides, where is it written in a stone that you need to work your whole life until you die?

I'm about to quit my job and start my journey as an entrepreneur. I'm tired of the corporate system that does nothing but screw over good employees a lot of the time. I was promised a raised and signed paperwork at my current job. I looked at my paychecks today and realized they have not be paying me for the agreed amount that day we signed off on. They also said that they would not pay me the backpay. Glad I got into investing this year and making my money work for me. I have a backup plan. I make up 40% of their business and now my time wont be invested in them anymore, but in myself. I'm going to be a successful investor and entrepreneur with various sources of passive income. Thank you for your videos. They've helped me gain insight.

I hate it- I need to vent this. I don't think I can take it anymore at what was supposed to be the "dream" position- I finally got a full time job as a Media Marketing Coordinator at an animal organization- PERFECT for an animal lover and creative person like me, right?....At first, I was SO excited and ready to learn and improve my skills. What really ended up happening was a disorganized mess, crappy communication, and a workload meant for an entire team is composed of TWO people. From start to finish. I finally realized how badly it's affecting me because of the physical signs like losing weight, hot flashes, heart palpitations, uncontrollable shaking, and more that I couldn't shoo away or ignore. Even visiting my parents noticed how frail and terrible I looked and were so upset to see me like that. I work so hard even worrying about my work outside of paid hours, getting calls and emails when I'm supposed to be off...I don't think there's room for compromise- I'm taking the risk and lining up a new job (scary) and once that happens, I'm gone.
