  • Dr. Mary Claire Haver discusses menopause, libido, and nutrition. As an OBGYN and Culinary Medicine Specialist, I was asked about the connection between menopause, libido, and nutrition. As it turns out, the kitchen and the bedroom have more in common than you think!

    - About Dr. Mary Claire Haver -
Dr. Mary Claire Haver is a wife, mom, physician, and entrepreneur who has devoted her adult life to women’s health. As a Board Certified OBGYN in the Houston area, Dr. Haver has delivered thousands of babies, completed thousands of well-woman exams, counseled patients, taught residents, and did everything an academic professor and OBGYN could do.
As her patient population aged, Dr. Haver was overwhelmed with the number of complaints and concerns her patients had with weight gain while going through menopause. For years, she told her patients to eat less and exercise more. It wasn’t until she, too, experienced the changes of menopause and mid-life weight gain that she realized this advice doesn’t work and ultimately led to her creating and developing a new program, The Galveston Diet.
The Galveston Diet is the first and only nutrition program in the world created by a Female OBGYN, designed for women in menopause. The Galveston Diet helps women reach their health and wellness goals through an anti-inflammatory approach to nutrition. Dr. Haver believes in the power of nutrition to combat inflammation and highly recommends the unlimited benefits of intermittent fasting. As part of her ongoing research, she became certified in Culinary Medicine in 2019, which specializes in medical nutrition.

Thank you for this video, Dr. Haver. I’m not on any social media except watching informative videos like yours. Appreciate your dedication, so helpful and your excitement is helpful instead of the regular “here’s all your women’s issues” sans solutions (aside from synthetic options)….

Speaking of dopamine - is there any correlation between online games / smart phone use and desensitization of dopamine? say if someone used their phone to constantly play games, endlessly scroll for hours a day - becoming unable to get their dopamine fix through personal interaction / physical interaction?

Dr Mary Claire Haver, since you also prefer natural cellularly impacting options vs. synthetic medications, I hope you have educated yourself and use scientifically relied upon and tested essential oils. They work!

Zero libido since she hit perimenopause almost 7 years ago. Won't kiss, won't engage in anything physically intimate - classic (something is wrong in our relationship) mentality instead of being open to examining the obvious effect or perimenopause. Weight gain, body image issues, change in personality when it comes to anything related to physical intimacy (borderline hostile), no touch, etc.. Her gynecologic of course won't help to address it and anything I suggest, no matter how supportive is met with "this is completely normal" opposition, etc..

It sounds like you are not a fan of HRT…. I have been on a great food plan for 7weeks all good nutrition… no alcohol etc I’ve lost weight … but still do not want to have sex! I love my husband and like him ! Lol. So I figured I need HRT…. Your opinion would be appreciated

There are many forms and formulations of HRT. I am a fan and use it myself. There are also multiple reasons a woman may not be happy with her sexual function, and HRT may not be helpful for all of them.

@@tammykerr6787 estrogen is involved in sexual desire so its likely depending on what’s going on for you . Herbs in supplements are also helpful ~ Bulgarian tribulus , horny goat weed and Korean ginseng is a good combination I’ve known people to take with good results

I am the same. I lost my libido when I was 50 years old and in perimenopause. I am now 60. I have always been a health nut. No processed foods, no sugars, plenty of omega-3’s, healthy proteins, leafy greens, etc. I also exercise. My husband always tells me that I’m the healthiest eater of anyone he knows. I’ve had all my levels checked. My B vitamins, C and D levels are all optimal. I’ve also been on HRT for two years, and I still have no libido. I’m on the same HRT as Dr. Haver. An estradiol patch and the oral progesterone pill. Unfortunately I’m not sure if my libido will ever come back.
