Am 70 years old. Have been on hrt for 10 years. Weaned myself off hrt this year to find out where I was in my menopausal experience. Sad to say 7 months later the constant hot flashes and sleep disturbances caused the quality of my life to decline dramatically. Went from 7-8 hours of sleep to 4-5 hours of interrupted sleep, along with being edgy daily. Tried black cohosh for 2 months but had not benefit to me. Could not see myself accepting this as a way of life. Went back on hrt and within 3 weeks I was back to normal. Got my life back.

I fired her and found an amazing Doctor that was willing to prescribe the HRT. It changed my life! My joint pain is gone, skin is better, sleep better, sex drive back, mood stable, energy levels up, hair growing back, and Im not sick near as often as I had been, weirdly enough. At 52 I finally found a doctor in USA who listened to my concerns and got me a hrt patch at a high enough dose to alleviate my symptoms. Without HRT I had insomnia, night sweats, hot flashes, palpitations, weight gain, anxiety, mood swings, loss of joy, vaginal dryness. I told my doctor that I was reading a study that said that women who are autistic have a more difficult time with menopause. She thinks autism is a mental disorder and she started pushing her religion on me after my autism diagnosis. She told me that ALL women have trouble with menopause. She said I have a mental condition, that I was crazy, and I was depressed. She didn’t ask how I felt, she went strictly by my facial expressions, or lack thereof. I don’t have facial expressions unless I’m thinking about it. She shut me down on discussing menopause treatment and I have now switched doctors. Dear Mary Claire I tried the HRT" last week with my doctor but it upsets my stomach like crazy.. I was so sick.. Anyways my doctor don't agree with me taking the pill or any other type of HRT because my mother had both breast and ovarian cancer. In the other hand we as Catholics don't agree with birth control pills or another thing artificial just abstinence in difficult moments. But always to be open to life. To take birth control pills even in menopause, still supports anf promotes the continuity of this methods. I though well in menopause could be ok?, but it's still controversial. Then the worst happend to me, I just know that I got so sick, but like terrible sick.. Then for me I don't see an exit yet, only your diet, eating less sugar, fasting, exercising and praying thinking always in the wonderful moments our Lord has blessed us so incredible and at the end everything turn out right. Because everything is possible for God, who can do all things. You are doing a lot for all of us, keep searching ways with the help of our Lord and He will guide you. You have a great talent and incredible energy and love for your neighbor. Just ask our Lord Jesus with your knowledge to help you to find divine good answers.. I tried asking about HRT and he refused to put me on HRT. His exact words, "Sure, you will be happier, but later on you will regret it when you get cancer." He went on to say that the celexa that I have been on for years (for depression) should take care of the symptoms I am experiencing. I walked out of there several times very discouraged about my doctor's stance on how I am feeling. I am very tired of "white-knuckling" this horrid phase of my life. THANK YOU for your insight! I have suffered from PCOS since I was 16, my male primary care doctor took me off of Metformin because I lost weight in my early 40's. He literally told me that PCOS was an overweight disease and that since I am now thin I don't need the meds anymore. Not one test was done. I went to my female OBGYN and she put me back on it. I was a mess without it. It controls my glucose levels which have not changed just because I lost weight. PCOS is not a weight problem disease. It is so much more including hormones and losing hair. etc. I am going to be 49 next month and going to look into HRT as well. I am so encouraged by the ladies here who are older and only started HRT more recently. It counter-balances the "earlier the better" counsel Marie-Claire is advising. For those of us who haven't gone this route, it feels kind of scary to think that we might have missed the boat. I'll be 59 next month. I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 36. Began perimenopause symptoms (anxiety) around 40. Read What Your Doctor Isn't Telling You About Perimenopause back then and began using an OTC progesterone cream for years. It helped, but eventually I stopped and never got back to it.
About 3 or 4 years ago I mentioned HRT to my doctor. He told me to research it, but everything has side effects, and I'm almost out of the woods with this stuff. "Flash" forward to today and I'm still experiencing some hot flashing. Yep, that's a long time. I'm going to make an appointment with a naturopath and get some counsel. Thanks for all you do.
Later Add: I've been on an estradiol patch now for 2 months. Took about a month for full cessation of the occasional flashes - my primary motivation. However, from the FIRST NIGHT I have slept soundly almost every single night. This has been an unexpected Godsend. I am overwhelmed with thankfulness as this has been a struggle brought on by hormone disruption for y-e-a-r-s. 💗🙏💗

My doctor wanted to put me on a statin and I refused. I’ve been on HRT for about 16 years and it helped tremendously. I did the research to talk my doctor about the treatment. He knew nothing about it. I have a new women’s doctor and she wants me to stop HRT by the time I am 65. I am currently 60.

I am 63 and started going through menopause when I was 60. I started having hot flashes and was waking up every 1-2 hours at night and was not functioning well. I tried “toughing it out” and not doing HRT because I thought menopause was a natural process that I should just wait out, and also feared possible increased cancer risks I had heard of from taking hormones, and since my mom had very mild menopause symptoms that only lasted about 1 year I figured I could deal with the hot flashes for that short of a period of time. So I waited 1 year. Well that was a horrible 1 year. During that 1 year, my doctor, a woman of similar age, kept urging me to go on HRT, asking me; “why do you want to suffer?” She told me that she was on HRT and what a difference it has made in her quality of life. She explained to me all the new research and benefits of taking HRT and how safe they are. I agreed to go on HRT and it was life changing! I highly urge anyone out there that is suffering from hot flashes, lack of sleep, etc., to insist that your doctor put you on HRT.

Now before I turned 48 (July 2022) this year & started HRT with a hormone wellness dr here in Austin after they got my levels. Now I am in peri menopause & had a testosterone pellet injected & take progesterone on a cycle & all my symptoms have dramatically improved. Energy, focus, no headaches, sex drive. all of it.

So glad i found your videos! Living in Norway & when it comes to menopause they’re way behind the US. I started oral hrt at 54, ended it at 59 because of the risks. I’m 62 now & it’s been such a struggle from the day i stopped hrt. It hasn’t been 3yrs yet since i stopped so i just started a combi patch, which my gyno did not want to give me. She actually said we give antidepressants for the symptoms. I had to argue to get my way and insist for menopause treatment. I am not depressed but have so many other symptoms. I was on statins for almost a year and now off of them for 1 yr. My decision, they were destroying my body. I was hoping for trans dermal cream but she said it’s not given to women who still have a uterus. Ridiculous i said, since i know women who use it & have a uterus, but they are living in the US.
I asked the pharmacist & it is a very difficult process to creat and super costly. I am grateful that at least i started the patch, i am already sleeping better, more benefits will come with time.
    Truely thankful for your education.

I’m 59 been on HRT 2 years. I had to literally get the whole process going by asking my ob gyn for estrogen. I already had the progesterone per IUD. I originally got the IUD to cease my periods at 52- on my second one. No issues.
I’m taking estrogel my dr agreed to prescribe. I’ve had very detailed discussions with my dr about hormone replacement . She tells me she has learned all about hormones outside of med school and her practice. This same season shared with me that she is going to do exactly like I am doing when it’s time . Ladies !!!! Moral of story is I would have NEVER been given estrogen had I not asked and done my own research .
Btw I have never had a hot flash. Only symptom I ever had but was so profound and stressful was interrupted sleep. Please be your own advocate !!!!your dr isn’t doing what’s best for necessarily !!!! Be your own advocate

I fast 15 hours a day, eat well, and exercise very hard and regularly. HE chalked it up to all of us gaining weight over the holidays. Blah! anyways, found a great female doctor who gets hormones and how it affects us. I've been on estrogen and progesterone for a month. How long does it take to start losing weight? I'm 59, went into menopause at 53, went on bio-identical HT (estrogen, testosterone, dhea, progesterone) at age 56. Every single one of my symptoms and conditions are gone! I had heart problems (cardiomyopathy) SVT, I had a stroke 3 yrs prior to menopause. I had what was "labeled" osteoarthritis, bone loss, told I needed back surgery, terrible body inflammation, and the typical menopause symptoms of hot flashes, night sweats, brain fog, not sleeping and much much more for a good 13 yrs leading up to menopause. Medications were pushed on me from anti-depressives to statins to blood thinners to anti-inflammatory drugs, and, all had made me worse and caused secondary problems.
All of my symptoms, conditions went away! It is never too late to go on BHRT and conditions DO go away with BHRT. Saying an older person won't expect the same health outcomes as someone who starts early with BHRT is misleading.
Regardless what your information states. With the right eating habits, essential and non essential supplements, Boron supplement, exercising routine and wellness program any one person can benefit beyond what is written and where they are today. More so, with the right doctor who specializes in BHRT and "natural" healing. In other words a non--medication pushing doctor!
I know many women who have reversed everything and regained their life pre-menopause and pre-BHRT. People deserve better!
FYI- Synthetic Hormones are NOT identical to what the body makes and comes with many serious risks and side effects. Bio-Identical Hormones ARE and they have been proven to be completely safe and without risks.
-Statin drugs lower ALL cholesterol, both HDL and LDL. Our bodies NEED cholesterol to make hormones and protect the brain. Good Cholesterol, like eggs, EVO Oil, avocado, etc...
-Any woman will be hard pressed to have their regular MD or Gyno prescribe BHRT. They "may" prescribe synthetic. Having said that when and IF the Dr won't prescribed find a functional medicine Dr, a naturopathic Dr or any independent Dr who treats hormone balancing.
Bottom line; no matter the age or conditions, it is never too late for BHRT. And, before any woman goes in for any non injury knee replacement surgery, or ANY kind of joint surgery try BHRT first! Education, education, education is key!

I’m now 71 with Stage 3 colon cancer and 3/4 through chemo and post surgery for tumor removal. I recently read that HRT has been shown to prolong life post colon cancer. I’m on HRT for 2 years. After 20 yrs of misery and increasingly serious health issues I went back on HRT. I’m 70 yrs old. I was on HRT for 8 yrs (LMP aged 41). Briefly my osteoporosis has reversed to osteopenia, my BP is now normal. No medication needed. Cholesterol now normal. I’m off my statins. Weight loss of 30 lbs over a year. Yes I’ve tackled my diet and nutrition. My swollen feet are back to normal. The aches and pains have reduced hugely. The panic and high anxiety is gone. The brain fog is gone. I cannot get a doctor to discuss fully the ins and outs of HRT. Spain! 🙄. I got started in Ireland and just try to manage it myself. My doctor here gives me repeat scripts. I WISH!! My breast specialist refuses to put me back on HRT saying it's what caused my breast cancer, so I just keep gaining weight and he just shrugs at me. I'm beyond frustrated with the medical community. I'm now prediabetic (insulin resistant) bc they threw me into menopause overnight by removing my HRT. Insurance will cover Metformin, but it won't cover me seeing a nutritionist. Imagine that. Treat everything with drugs.

52 years old, total hysterectomy at age 30. I’ve been on HRT since. I just got the bio identical pellets a month ago. I’m extremely healthy, but would have passed on the hysterectomy if I could do it all over again…
I’m noticing memory improvement. Random words had been escaping me, and I was starting to worry about it. My grandmother passed with Alzheimer’s at age 95…

Yes, I am doing estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone, I didn't need insulin or thyroid hormone, and ever since I feel great, honestly I don't know why this is not covered by our health insurance; it is 100% percent covered in England and here my OGYN told me that's not the kind of treatment they do at Kaiser, very disappointed because being menopausal it was altering my mental health and now I feel like when I was in my late 20's, my libido change entirely and I couldn't recommend this HRT treatment more. I think we need to get together and bring this to the congress so this would be accessible to everyone in this country. I pay a membership to get my hormones and it's not cheap, I am grateful that I can afford this but it makes me think what about those women who work very hard every day to have a decent life, what about them?

@@maryclairehavermd8473 Thank you all that I I I beg you to use your platform and medical expertise to influence Congress to make this available for all Woman.
I'm on disability and have been experiencing menopausal symptoms since 37 and now I am 55, It shouldn't be so difficult to get HRT approved by insurance. It should be available to all women no matter what insurance you have or even if you have no insurance...it should basically be covered 100%. The system is failing, as women we are treated like second class citizens in this country!

I am a kaiser member, too. I was shocked to see on the website that they focus on non-hormonal treatment for menopause and CBT for hot flashes. I did find a kaiser gynecologist who said she'd give me HRT, but only after I pushed back when she told me I'm "not there yet" because I'm still getting periods. She wanted to give me a low dose BC pill instead. She also scared me by saying "I can give you HRT but you'll start bleeding heavily and then we'll have to do a uterine biopsy and you don't want that." I don't blame her. Kaiser is waaaaaay behind with information. I have an appointment next week, but I'm a little concerned that this doctor won't understand dosage for perimenopause and me in particular, since it seems she only prescribes for postmenopausal women. We did discuss estradiol patch and prometrium pill. Dr. Haver, if by any chance you see this, I'd love your response to the heavy bleeding/biopsy comment. Thank you so much for your generous education!

Thank you so much - you are so needed to support women’s health!!! I finally found a doctor who recommended HRT and actually sat down with me (as you do with your patients). It took several years and 2 tries with new doctors. She explain all of the previous and new studies to me and helped me find the right option which was a compounded cream that I use 2 times daily plus vaginal estrogen. What a huge difference in my life - will never go off HRT!! Having a doctor finally care about women and their health as they get older and being honest is priceless!! Please keep doing what you are doing and stay passionate about being a voice for women - you are making a true difference!!!!

My insurance billing is so difficult that I have a limited choice of doctors I can go to. The insurance website has a long list of doctors, but you have to call many doctors before finding one who is taking new patients with this insurance. I drive up to an hour and 45 minutes sometimes just to get there. Doctors in my area don’t take patients without insurance- they won’t make an appointment without it. My neurologist just dropped me as a patient because my insurance billing was too difficult. I get my insurance on the state exchange because I’m in the invisible time between retirement and Medicare. For us, the cost is the same as COBRA.
