    Finally, Sean Bean has an acting role where he gets to live till the end.

      It'd be pretty funny if the quote for gunpowder was just the sound of a gunshot, and then a new narrator takes over.

    +10 vs anti calvary is a paper-rock-scissors mechanic. Infantry>Spearmen>Cavalry>Archerz>Infantry I would suspect.

    • @balfizan
      @balfizan 8 лет назад

      I actually thought they all had an advantage over ranged units. Or that ranged units were weak against melee units. Same thing effectively but the way they do the math can change tactics around some. But yes its a R/P/S mechanic. In this instance Infantry>Anti-Cav>Cav>Infantry

    • @TheBlindedLeader
      @TheBlindedLeader 8 лет назад +1

      Still don't understand how an infantry has an advantage over the longer spear, but it is a video game so what can ya do lol.

    • @Alphapara
      @Alphapara 8 лет назад +7

      If you get past the spearhead a spear man is incredibly vulnerable. Infantry (swords, maces, axes, whatever) are all used in short ranges. Ergo, infantry have a much easier time fighting face to face than spear men. Hope that helps.

    • @TheBlindedLeader
      @TheBlindedLeader 8 лет назад +1

      Yes and throughout history the pole-arm has practically always been the primary weapon on the battlefield... Because having the longer reach is just smart, swords are side-arms not primary weapons. But again its a video game so I understand lol

    • @Alphapara
      @Alphapara 8 лет назад +9

      The Blind Leader Polearms have been primary weapons throughout history because they are cheap to produce and take minimal skill to use. It makes perfect sense that swordsmen would destroy spear men, historically, in a video game, or otherwise.

    Not getting BONUS science from the Campus doesn't matter. Rome is NEVER going to get that bonus, but you're still going to want the Campus. It gives science per citizen, too, and Rome is likely to be the biggest of your cities. In fact, I'd even wonder if building next to a mountain with all those hills is really worth it in the food you'll give up, and thus science from number of citizens you'd lose out on.

    • @toxreg4383
      @toxreg4383 5 лет назад

      Leedark3 the science only depends on how many citizens are working in the district, which is capped so total pop won’t matter as Long as it’s over the district cap

    I wish the borders were soft curved splines as in Civ5, instead of artificial-looking hexagons as in Beyond Earth..

    • @felipericardomachado8776
      @felipericardomachado8776 8 лет назад +1

      I guess it has to do with the fact that he still hasn't control over his own borders...
      Maybe, after he does that (and Civs can't enter his territory without permission), they'll become more "fluid"...

    • @Baleur
      @Baleur 8 лет назад

      I dont think so, i think thats dealing with the dashed and solid border graphic.
      But it seems the borders are smooth curves near the coastline, so perhaps if he turns off the hex grid, the borders will follow the terrain instead.
      Hopefully dependent on the grid setting.

    I believe that forests also give an adjacency bonus to holy sites, so a good spot would be to put one wedged in between the forest and the mountains near the copper just south of Rome (if I'm right, its a +4 boost, whereas putting it between the mountains only gives you a +2).

  • @panpiper
    @panpiper 8 лет назад +1

    The best place to build that second city would have been in the green zone between Toronto and Spain. Just because it is a strip of green surrounded by red does not mean that it is forbidden. You'd have had the ultimate science district location and totally controlled that mountain pass area. And it would have still permitted you to place a second city upwards and to the right of Toronto to also avail yourself of 'those' mountains.

    It seems that the units have a rock/paper/scissors balancing system which is nice. Though technically spears and shields are also strong against infantry..

    • @reaper24234
      @reaper24234 8 лет назад +1

      Good I'm not the only one that noticed that...didn't think it was too hard to see
      EDIT: Also with spears at least, yea while viable against infantry, definitely not the best. You've got a few inches of steel on an otherwise useless wooden pole. You miss, the rest of your weapon just gets in the way.

    • @aFewBitsShort
      @aFewBitsShort 8 лет назад

      Ryan Blickfeldt Axes are definitely great vs shields in that you can hook them and pull them down. Spears are good in a shield wall but so are arrows shooting diagonally. But in terms of skirmishers that go around the wall, swords are definitely great. Maybe that's all too technical for Civ though 😂

    • @AleksandrKramarenko
      @AleksandrKramarenko 8 лет назад +1

      @Ryan Blickfeldt No, the sword is not better. Where melee fighting was concerned, the spear was the most effective weapon of war for melee infantry because of its superior reach. That is why practically all armies had a backbone consisting of spears. Swords were used in smaller numbers for more mobile units to exploit weaknesses in the enemy line or they were used as backup weapons.

    • @phuckyou2098
      @phuckyou2098 7 лет назад

      Lmfao. No, that is NOT why. Spears were CHEAPER. MUCH cheaper. It is much cheaper and faster to mass produce spears than craft a sword. Spears were only good when the reach was maintained. Once in close against a spear, they're fucked unless they drop it and draw a sword / dagger. Spears also broke very easily compared to swords, too.

    I think looking at the campus as only being useful with the mountain or rain forest bonuses would be like not building a university in Civ5 because you don't have a jungle. The jungle was a nice bonus in Civ5 but the base building was good enough on its own and I suspect the Campus will be the same.

  • @bluntbangs

    It's funny looking back at how much the strategy of Civ 6 has developed. I don't think anyone would ever even consider settling in a gray area as their second city these days lmao. And it's definitely different from Civ 5 in that you're encouraged to build more wide instead of tall due to the districts.

    There's a weird echo in the game sound. You might wanna fix that. Great series though! Keep em coming!

    Spearmen historically were anti-cavalry, and swordsmen were designed to be anti-infantry, while cavalry were designed to cut down swordsmen.

    • @Griexxt
      @Griexxt 8 лет назад +3

      In reality it's not as clear cut as this. There are several examples of spearmen being primarily used against other infantry. Greek hoplites and Roman triarii, for example. And before stirrups were invented, head on attacks of cavalry against infantry in formation would have been suicidal in most cases.

    If you had moved the scout away from the river and then attacked you would've survived, despite not killing the warrior.

    I Really think you're overstating the lack of mountains for the campus. Sure its great to get the extra science at the start, but once you start adding a library to it it does produce science anyway.

    Doesn't the advisor sound like Ygritte? Dead Game of Thrones cast reunion going on here.

      Speaking of cast reunions, I don't know what I wouldn't give to hear Gwendoline Christie as Boudica's voice actress in some future DLC. _(happy sigh)_

      It's a weird accent for sure - half super posh, and then with a bit of Yorkshire thrown in. I'm still trying to work it out...

    • @SquigglyBeasst
      @SquigglyBeasst 8 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I don't think it is Ygritte, but it sounds like a Brit with a non-regional accent doing their best at a Yorkshire accent.
      Apparently Yorkshire is the voice of culture and science! Who knew? :D

      It is how barbarians work in Civ 6. If a barbarian scout sees your city it runs back to its encampment and spawns a large number of barbarians to assault your city.

    25.35 wait what? "faster movement in woods and rainforest terrain"
    Rainforest? But earlier the civilopedia clearly listed "jungle" as one of the terrain types, and im pretty sure thats what we've seen with the palm trees in all videos. So are there rainforests too, or did they just fuck up and not use the same wording?

    • @Baleur
      @Baleur 8 лет назад

      Upon later videos it seems the game uses the term "rainforest" far more than "jungle". So i guess they just changed their terminology for whatever reason. No more jungles :P
