New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place! Игры
me watching quill and the comments all strategic while Im like, "I have no idea what is going on"
Omar Ikr I've never put that much thought process into my games... Maybe that's why I suck at them.
I feel the EXACT same way about his EU4 games. I remember he showed us his England game and he was like "Yeah I won the 100 years war" casually. I'm sitting here like "I haven't even managed to form Germany yet!!! TT_TT"
It's a beautiful game which brings out your inner greedy ass politician/hitler complex/nature loving pope/Van gogh artistic whatever. It's an intimidating game since there's alot of aspects to it but it's not that hard. When i play Civ i don't know half the sh!t i'm doing, i just do what makes sense like someone's being a bitch, i rain hailfire at their doorstep. :D

Lol. This game is actually very simplistic for a grand strategy game. Civ 4 was much more complicated.
I dont understand how is possible to play without seeing the yields... the more information one has the better decisions he does.
Interesting note is that your continent is called Rodinia, meaning motherland in Russian
almost, its called “rodina"
Close enough
it's actually a scientific termin.
When a barbarian encampment spawns, you will see it, even if it is within the fog of war. Not in unexplored territory though of course. You will also hear the "barbarian sound effect" during the turn it spawns. Whenever I hear it, I quickly look around the fog of war to see if it was anywhere near me.
What perfect upload time Quill! Thank you for the content :D
Brand new to Civ. Just bought a PC and started playing because of you Quill. :D
When a camp spawns, it makes a distinct sound. That sounds occurred a few turns before you notice the encampment.
I'm pretty sure it only makes that sound when a camp spawns in already explored territory. You won't hear camps spawning off the map.
Great Vid! Very informative and fun :D Keep them coming
I'm so glad you play this game. I'm terribad at it, but it's so damn interesting. Watching you play makes me want to buy it.
I always feel so overwhelmed after I don't watch quill for a while.
Quil like the top three pixels are cut of so you cant read how much money you get or faith
I know im just trying to tell him the tops cut of a little
Actually, 3 pixels are like half a mm. You can easily notice that.
I've finally found a youtuber who doesn't act fake. instantly subbed
For someone finally catching up on these 7 years later, it's weird going from an unfinished press release game straight to this with nothing released in between. It feels like a lot of stuff didn't make it to YT and now it's way too late to watch it on Twitch.
1.24 when he says "what do we have near us" when deciding what to tech first, is what happens to me in EVERY game. Each time i think, next time i will look first but i always forget.
Quill, since warriors and slingers cost no maintenance, for future reference, just pump those out and fogbust your borders with them. If I find a couple horses in empty areas I've left a scout there just to fogbust before.
i have did 20 Russia starts they always start north or south of the map in the poles region to take advantage of tundra only map i didnt start in poles is where i set the map to dry hot and it was a desert world:)
Anyone know when the release date for civilization 6 is, on the Mac ?
The same settings as Marbs, what a coincidence :b
Marbs is on Emperor.
How do you get to the Great Works screen in Civ VI? I was staring at my game last night and couldn't figure out where the option is in the UI
Not sure if you have noticed quill, but apparently you can Rename units that are at Level 2 upgrades
Is there a reason he doesn't use the resource overlay when considering where to settle? Is it to force himself to consider the location more than the resources because it's so much more important? I usually go by resources first but he ignores them altogether?
just bought CIV6 only after watching your let's play....
How do you change it, so you can see the animation when meeting people? Mine just sows the conversation not them speaking.
Quill you can easily outplay the large AI military, I played a game recently where I early aggroed Ghandi and his incessant varu elephants, I had a city near him in a narrow mountain pass and he streamed literally hundreds of them through a 1 tile pass and took no other route. Needless to say, I farmed him with a large circle of archers and siege, which all reached ranks 3 and 4 promotion from farming only varus streaming out 1 or 2 at a time until he got exhausted and offered me peace when his back was broken. Then I took his city. The AI's tactical idiocy is why they need so many units. I should probably go back to a save of it and send a video recording to firaxis for consideration, there were some easy solutions (for ghandi)
Watching more videos instead of playing the game, as the Mac version isn't released yet.
Is this out of sequence? What happened to the end of the Japan Campaign?
Trent8086 Check his twitch for the rest of Japan
it will show up on youtube eventually, right?
paxinum should, yeah.
Trent8086 I'm guessing it's on his twitch vod
He lost to the Kongo AI
Make these into a Playlist please quill?
Damn Quill youre on immortal already? I cannot even beat King yet.
To beat King easily just make a great navy, go to war and get loads of levels... The AI is really dumb :-/ Goes with all their army on the seas
SnowToad well I need to try immortal soon but so far king is not so hard well compared of what you want to do, just make sure to have a army strong enough to defend if you want to play the technology/culture game. But to be fear you can do everything in Civ 6
Havent you really. I was hesitant to start on King, but although the other civs went to war with me many times, they cant seem to handle their siege units and they only lose a few units and propose piece with gold in my favor.
will this work on my 2015 mac book air?
Can someone explain to me why C was such a good place to settle? It doesnt seem to have hardly any resources around it
Having a city near the coast plus holding of dem Scythians.
Will you do more civ 6?
so i take it his 1st game of the stream didnt go so well? USA and Kongo attacked him? How many turns did it last?
Apparently Quill doesn't recognize the Barbarian Encampment spawning sound yet. His sound might be really low though.
Quill, the game has an audible clue when the barbarian encampment spawns.
Quill, I know this might be off topic, but being a programmer yourself, do you think there is any way of 'improving' the AI rather than just giving it bonuses at the start?
arcen for civ ai...
too hard. they are also working on ai war 2 atm (kickstarter phase)
You run into the same problems that you do with chess, only a lot crazier: too big of a decision space. Unless you want each turn to chug along waiting for the AI to calculate its move, it can't calculate using typical AI decision tree methods as deeply as is good enough to be strategic.
Kowzorz if you optimize as much as the guys from arcen, it would be possible.
Computerphile has a video on the topic: "AI's Game Playing Challenge". More or less the same thing as Kowzorz are saying.
Nope.
I mean, you can probably make a brilliant Civ AI, but it would need a huge amount of dedicated hardware (take a look at the equipment needed to make AlphaGo work, for example), and even then turns would be painfully slow as the AI processed it's ideal turn.
Software game AIs have to deal with a lot of compromises so that they don't eat too many CPU cycles & in order for the game to have enjoyable pacing. Part of that compromise package is giving the AI cheats.
Besides that, think about it for a moment: would you actually even want to fight against a superhumanly good AI? Like, just get stomped over and over and over again, forced to play the game with the most optimal choices instead of having fun with variation every single time if you want to win?
I sure wouldn't. If I wanted that, I'd just sign-up for a multiplayer game to go get destroyed in. No need for a super sophisticated AI to provide that experience.
Should Civ have barbs spawning less or not at all in Tundra? I mean there were no barbs in Antarctica or Greenland
Golkarian He's not in Antarctica or Greenland. He's in Russia. That's like saying, "Alaska is cold so it's Antarctica."
Did he ever post the seed to this map?
This dude actually puts time and thought into his movements lol I'm just like fuck it! And click random shit.
Scouts dont attack, dont pillage, and dont steal workers / settlers. If you know where the encampment is, it's best to go there and not waste time chasing a scout.
The only threat they cause is if they accidently end turn on the path of a trade route. It will get pillaged.
Did i miss and episode? were there a video where quill lost in early game? or was it on live stream and he dident want hes humilition to be uploaded to YT?
It happened on stream. It was pretty short, and he started again with the same Civ and same settings, so it makes sense to not bother showing that on RUclips.
In other words, you didn't miss much.
what happened before this video?
11:20
THAT was ridiculous....
what gamespeed did you use?
Is this multiplayer?
Holy shit Quill, how do you end and start games as quickly as that?!
you make playing the game your living lol
Cheeki breeki operational
i just watched a war and order game app ad use mount and blade 2 bannerlord gameplay to advertise their game.
I am really like the River goddess pantheon, what do y'all think?
If you can plop down a holy site-district next to a river it's pretty good, kinda meh otherwise.
restrictions :(
St. Petersburg, 4000 BC. That's hilarious )))
Wait, what happened to the Japan game? What Kongolese aggression? What is happening?
Its a part of a livestream
What's the level of difficulty for this campaign and is there a penalty for switching research?
He's on Immortal, and here is no penalty foe switching techs to my knowledge.
Thanks, so you "lose out" on all the previous turns? No carry over for production?.
@@BillyBob2015 To quote the man(presumably) "There is no penalty foe switching techs"
Not the biggest fan of watching you beat up an already cheating but woefully inept AI, but I _love_ fractal maps in Civilization, so I'm watching this.
Watch Marbozir. He starts in Advanced Setup so we can get the seed and play along with him. I'm not about to watch you play thru in detail when I can be playing.
Rivers are three move.
in civ 6 is there army stacking? or is it the same as civ 5.
there is a form of army stacking enabled with great generals
Ok thank you for answer, that makes sense.
Its Civ 5 style.
Seriously? I thought corps were available earlier than bloody Nationalism!
I remember playing civ a long time ago when army stacking was a thing and after playing civ 5 I realized how much better the game was without army stacking... AI having 10 units in a city made the game kind of boring trying to kill them all while getting a defensive unit or two killed per turn.
WTF Quill! I got an exam in 2 days!
XD
It's my turn now, exam in 2 days, watching all his let's plays of civ 6
i wish they built the civ6 on civ5
not civBE :(
The one thing I hate about civ 6 its how minimalistic it seems, as in the bad art it has in the tech tree or civic tree(no art at all). By art I mean the photos of each technology, or city buildings.
Oliver Adkinson that was the first thing it jumped in my eye. Sure the game is full of problems and will stay so even after 2-3 expansions and all dev support will stop like every civ game.
The artstyle is pretty important to me in games tho. If you are not able to understand that gtfo.
solmyr2 it's your opinion, but it is a stupid one
I don't get why Russia gets tundra bonuses. If you take a look at this: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/World_population_density_1994_-_with_equator.png you'll see that tundra isn't a thing they exactly take advantage of.
I thought that when you settle your first city it is the name of the real capital of that country why isnt his capital named Moscow?
Zakary Smiley When Peter was Tsar of Russia Sankt Peterburg was a capital.
Saint Petersburg was the capital until the civil war the toppled The Russian Empire, in 1918 the capital became Moscow
Same thing with Norway. The Civ6 Capital is Nidaros (modern Trondheim), because that was considered the most important city in ye olde reaving days.
Why do no youtubers play with graphics on highest?
I can tell the difference now after i bought the game, even on my shitty laptop i can play on highest settings, the most notable difference is that the forests, cities, improvements and all tile details have almost double the models, trees, little rocks in the forests, little rocks in the rivers actually producing wake foam etc. Absolute insane level of detail.
So why is no youtubers even bothering to change the settings up from Medium? :p
Framerate stability maybe? I dunno what kind of computer Quill has or how much he cares about graphical options. Some peeps just jump straight in as long as the game looks good enough and works well enough, which is weird to me but seems perfectly normal.
I know that the most complaints that youtubers have with recording on high settings, is the software used to record games, and even worst, he's streaming, the pc may be able to run the game on the highest setting, though it might have lag, or frame rate drops on videos or streams, which are more noticeable than small absolute insane level of detail.
1) He's also recording the game
2) He's streaming
3) Too much detail is bad for video encoding.
4) He might be running more things, maybe twitch related, like when someone subscribes and it makes a sound.
You copy Marbozir or Marbozir copy you ;)
Pretisy Both are doing Russia on fractal map games. Give Marbozir a watch, very entertaining!
It was vote soooo.
quill play as India
quill18 you need to stop streaming in that tshirt!
Perfect starting spot for Russians
I'd like to point out a reality check: there is a place 300 miles South of Moscow referred to as "The Black Earth" as it is Garden of Eden fertile there. Russia is not all tundra.
But Ukraine isn't part of Russia, silly.
Shroomy Ukraine may not be a part of Russia now. But it used to be for most of its history. most Russians consider Ukraine,Russia and Belarus to be part of each other. sister nations. hence Ukraine's name "black earth" because its fertility.
megaponful If every country owned what they historically saw as their own, there'd be like four countries, and a lot of dead bodies.
Ukraine isn't part of Russia, for now.
I didn't know that "The Black Earth" referred to Ukraine, it was just talked about by Thomas Sowell in his book Basic Economics.
I strongly prefer watching on RUclips, except when the caster is about to do something critically disastrous. I would have been one of the guys in chat going "Is Silver a strategic resource?" Luckily Twitch chat had your back once again.
rush B
persia iran to game
Why is this not Deity? Your bragging about it being easy and advertised on the CO-Optional Podcast as playing on Deity.
Extra salty episode
Why does everyone have to play f*cking Russiafor their first full releasegame. Marbozir, GamerZakh, you... its really not original. I would rather like to see nuclear Ghandi Civ VI Edition or just something else
Ugh, India seems to be the most underwhelming civ so far. Quite a shame for one of the oldest and most interesting civilizations out there.
"nuclear Ghandi Civ VI"
"really not original"
Are you the guy who helped promote H1Z1? You look familiar.
I think Quill looks more like Rene Tabard in the movie Hugo, but that might be a really obscure reference.
РУССКИЕ ИДУТ!
civ 5 is better
This is painfully slow
Sam Scholz Beats being in modern era after 200 turns.
Your lack of yield information is disturbing
William Galladryn your profile picture is disturbing.
It's just me smiling at the camera :p
They made this game look like a tablet game. Looks way too cartoony. Downgrade.
I wish I could downvote more than once.
ishehaxor You're the modern day 12 year old kid that thinks graphics in a strategy game holds the same importance as graphics in an FPS game. You have no idea how laggy the game could get if the graphics were to be the equivalent style of BF1.
Don't be butt hurt white knight. Also, don't take video games so serious nerd lol. Literally just said I don't like how the graphics are cartoony. The graphics of the last game are better than this one. You're an idiot.
John Mate, you are actually 12...
And mate, you're actually a bitch who takes video games too seriously. Piss off bitch boiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
