- russia's main stock exchange on June 13 halted dollar and euro trades after the United States hit moscow with a new package of sanctions over its military offensive in Ukraine.
The new U.S. sanctions, announced on June 12, target the moscow Exchange, also known as MOEX, which operates russia's largest public trading markets for equity, fixed income, derivative, foreign exchange, and money market products. The exchange also operates russia’s central securities depository and is the country’s largest clearing house for foreign currency transactions.

The Muscovite rubble is starting to show its true colours, it’s value on international markets has seemed over valued for some while now. With the stock market tanking and the UK announcing more sanctions especially on the shadow fleet that should dent their oil sales even further, reducing poo tin’s ability to bankroll this illegal invasion. Sad that the loss of money may have more of an effect than the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of his subjects. They of course don’t count in his eyes.
Is anyone taking bets on how long the S500 in Crimea will last? My guess is that it'll be blown up in less than 72hrs.

I've heard that Aliexpress was no longer accepting "rubble money" and most of the electronic devices that young Russians had were from Aliexpress or repaired with spare parts from Aliexpress.
I hope all other Chinese marketplaces do the same so for every broken smartphone in Russia there will be one less troll here 😁

Didn't Putin learn, that war ruins the currency. German history gives the best example: in 1923, 1 Dollar was worth 4.2 trillion Marks. Good prospects for Russia.

And yeah, Weimar Germany was infamous for its inflation, but so was Horthy's Hungary with its forints, then pengös (and even the modern forint has some issues, though nowhere near as horrible), and if you look at Zimbabwe's hyperinflation in the past fifteen or so years, it's been tragicomic as well. At the height of their hyperinflation, Zimbabwe printed a, I kid you not, 100 trillion Zimbabwean dollar banknote. Sad and hilarious at the same time.
ZImbabwe is at least a smaller country and doesn't pretend to be a powerhouse, but contemporary Russia keeps repeating it has the second army in the world, or that it's an unrivaled superpower and will steamroll the West, even economically (all the while 1.5 million skilled Russians had fled abroad to escape mobilization by that senile old Putrid), so Russia has no excuse of mismanaging its industry, economy and finance this badly, risking potential hyperinflation.
A stupid vanity project, this invasion. But, out of the Weimar Republic rose a shiny new leader, I hope that doesn’t repeat itself

@@AnnafromUkraine Soon after the breakup, I remember going to a bazaar in one of the former Soviet republics and was surprized that everyone preferred US currency (actually only new bills which were difficult to counterfeit). At the time, this was less the case in Russia, but it was commonly the case that Russian families did have a secret store of wealth, not in gold but US dollars. To my mind, it was a bizarre reality.

Russia was terrified of losing access to a warm deep water port and losing control over Ukraine and so, made it impossible for Ukraine to join the EU and NATO by invading and annexing territory in 2014. Turn off the Russian propaganda, that's the only place your beliefs could have come from because it isn't based in reality.

Anna is correct. Because of new sanctions that hit today 6/13/24 the banks and russian stock market have been decoupled from the dollar. No oversight.. meaning the russian banks can set the exchage amount for Ruble to dollar to whatecer the bank of russia chooses... it is 200 Ruble for 1dollar USD

Thanks Anna. It is humiliating for Kremlin that US can impose sanctions on Moscow exchange and affect it. The ultimate value of a ruble is what someone will pay on the street. I would be very surprised if Moscow banks claiming to hold deposits in US dollars actually have all those amounts of US dollar assets. I suspect they are just accounting entries. Anyway, the central bank will want to control any US dollar assets therefore Muscovites will never get to hold their US dollars in their hands. US dollars were even more precious in Eastern Europe 20 years ago. I would be interested in a video on monetary reform but I am a geek.

You know something, even growing up with the USSR threarening nuclear war with us, and i heard of the Ruble, as a Soviet form of currency, i couldn't help but think of a Ruble as anything but a wooden coin. That's what still pops in my head when i think of Rubles. I just looked up how much a Rubles was worth and its 1.1 cents (US), it might as well be a wooden coin. Just like a penny just another coin that'd fall on the ground and i didnt care about.

Meanwhile Putin sent two warships to Cuba for training operations. Allegedly no nuclear missiles on board. My country is down playing it but it has me wishing America normalized relations with Cuba & Venezuela to prevent anymore Russian warships this close to our borders.
