I am a big blade kind of guy, but I also live in Rochester, so the 3" blade length has made my R2D2 my most carried EDC blade. Love it! I think it is the only knife I own with a 3" blade, so it kind of wins the edc by default, lol.I am a wood carver, whittler, and the Rat2 in D2 cuts wood very well, and holds it's edge pretty good.
Just got mine today and like this little knife a lot. Great legal carry in my county and good EDC all around knife. I agree that to press the liner lock to close is possible a tiny bit harder than some knive are, but I think I prefer this trade off as the liner lock is rounder than most and does knot get in the way of the finger gaurd / choil helping prevent your hand from slipping up over the blade if you were to stab something hard. Thanks for the video.
Good review.. I have a few knife stores nearby and have handled many Rats and Cutjacks.. The F&F is more consistent on the CJ's..I've seen more Rats with late lock up and/or off center..But, many were fine too.. I used to avoid D2 due to not being fully stainless.. I've been carrying a beater Cutjack in D2.. It's been wet, dirty and used hard..In my pocket now covered in tape glue and crap...No corrosion problems..
I have small hands and it is very hard for me to find a nice full tang scandi grind bushcraft knife. I haven't found a perfect match yet. But for a folder - this Rat II fits my hand perfectly!
Now that i start thinking about it... I could TOTALLY see a Seth Rogan and co. film where he (Rogan, aka slicey dicey, aka knife nerd blade boss extraordinare) has a pretty serious office job or something but in his free time he smokes out and reviews knives and or flashlights, or edc gear in general. Like he super respected reviewer or something trying to make reviews in his cubical and some bill lumburg-esque boss comes up to interupt a very anticipated live unboxing or somethjn that for the sake of the movie he for whatever reason HAS to go live during his work shift and the boss would cause some zany antics posing to potentially sabotage rogans live stream. But -no not bill lumburg more like a dbag like Derek from step bros or something I THINK that's Adam Scott? Anyways sorry to completely derail both the original video topic as well as this comment. I just was pretty blazed when I watched this tbh and yea slicey dicey you do indeed sound very similar to Seth rogan in the actual sound of your voice, that's a good thing btw..
I live 200 Feet from Tampa Bay so I buy H1, VG10 and AUS-8 Steels for my knives ... Good Video ... The scales on the plastic model are the same material use on the handle of the Glock ...
I bought the S35VN version first, I like it so much that I bought the D2 Carbon Fibre version. I don’t think I’ll get an Aus8 version, unless it’s for parts.
Ignoring your comparison.. If you had to pick this or the equivalent cutjack.. which would you choose? I haven't owned either.. I'm leaning towards cutjack but the only thing that makes me indecisive is the 'thinness' of the r2d2 blade
I've owned both and I'm leaning more towards the rat 2. The cutback was nice but on my particular model I had to choose between nice action with blade play or stiffer action with no blade play. They rat 2 fires out extremely quick and smooth. Really nice ergos on the cutjack (mini) but not bad on the rat 2
I just bought the D2 Carbon Fiber Rat 2..mine out of the box came a little stiff and the Clip came installed tip down..switching it now..what can I do to loosen her up..pivot screw? Keep up the great reviews big fan
Just getting into knifes myself, ordered one of these today in D2. How often if ever do you guys lube your knifes? It’s something I’ve never thought about before watching RUclips videos on knifes Lol
Not to shabby, perhaps one day...It's just one of those knives that doesn't shout out to me. Thanks for the review, I liked the comparison of the carbon to the nylon.

Hmmmm I tried to like my R2D2 olive drab... I just was disappointed based on the hype. I'm sending it back after a week of trying to like it. Just not feeling it and would claim there are much better knives for a few more $$$... the Civivi's for example are in another universe of quality for $10 more or so. Just me... I know folks love this knife, I just couldn't continue the relationship. :(

I lived in Rochester for a year and noticed many people still give the “sheeple stare” even with 3 inch blades. Not so much when I carry 2-2.5”
Waiting for mine to arrive. Ordered it a couple days ago. Super pumped. Got it in black with the d2 steel

I like the fact that a 3 inch blade is considered big…
It really makes me feel better about myself.

Someone needs to make the blue scales happen for the R2D2!
@@betelgeuse4138 Thanks for the heads up on this - do you recall the name of the seller?
@@fullback118 I'll get them both for ya.

Rit dye will work in the bone coloured scales.

Maybe they laminated both sides of the G10 with CF so that the scales would be interchangeable during manufacturing.

Absolutely.

Love the carbon fiber might have to get one
Its the one knife that the carbon fiber looks cheesy and fake on. i actually like the look and feel of the frn better.

I ride road bikes too. Do you do bike reviews? Am curious about buying an r2d2. Just now getting into knives.
Where can I find the coyote brown in D2?

Use it, try disassembling and lubing, might help
I think this think knife would be so amazing with an axis lock
Jake B Wilin' it almost looks like the saibu! Lol
It would be unbelievable

More often than we should. Lol
"Curse my long, freak-fingers!" - Slicey Dicey
Satin or black finish? Pros and cons?
The black finish makes the blade less prone to rust because it has an extra coating
@@hudsonmclean4233 it’s paint not coating
@@bobsag1164
It rubs off too easily too.
I find this knife very hard to deploy. I feel the ergonomics relative to the thumb stubs
is very poor.
Dan Friedman has that changed?
Wow mine deploys like a rocket
Try pushing the stud forward as a posed to pushing to the side and it will flick open faster and all the way open.
Mine was tight till I loosened the pivot screw slightly
Good video, much appreciated. New sub for sure. My sister in law wants a folder to bring on her hikes. Im getting her the R2D2 in desert tan.
I have one of those, too!
R2D2. 👍👍👍👍👍
Is that colour Coyote Brown or Desert Tan?
Coyote Brown.
Slicey Dicey Perfect. I just ordered coyote brown wondering if thats the colour I’m after. Gorgeous
Cheers man
You cant see the knives you size comparison with under the subtitles 😔

It looks ugly but when you have it in your hand it feels nice. Like suddenly the way it looks makes sense.
ugh i wish i bought this as my first knife im regretting buying the paraframe tanto and just received it :(
Decent review, thanks. $10-$12 more for CF seems exorbitant.
Klaatu58 You should try shopping for carbon bike parts!

But this is just a CF veneer over G-10 and as many have pointed out, the application here isn't even as nice versus competitor's offerings.
May order the rat 2
I am so buying one

Haven't got one yet I'd pick the aus8
Geno Burgess You must like to sharpen.
Aus 8 is some of the worst steel on the market...

The D2 version is so brittle & prone to chipping.
They put CF stickers on both sides of the scales . Weird .
Not stickers it’s carbon laminate

Lol im an idiot lol totally going to beat the crap out of this blade lol
The iron man reference made me subscribe.
Seth Rogen?? Is that you ?

Is this guy Louis CK?
Wish they weren’t made in Taiwan.
