People always have a pleasant reaction towards it. No negative vibes at all. It’s a relatively simple car and maintenance is easy. As long as it’s maintained it hopefully should last forever.
Great informative video, thanks! An oil pressure question. I have an ‘83 230ce so same engine as the car in your video. My pressure reader on the dash reads about 0.5 bar while the engine is idling and only gets to about 2 bar ever otherwise but generally stays around 1/1.5 bar for standard city driving. Is this normal?
@@brianconlon6030 Lower oil pressure could be an indication of worn bearings or even your oil pump. As long as you have pressure and check your oil often, you should be just fine.
It would likely be just fine, I’m not as familiar with the older carbureted versions. Oil weights also vary by climate as well, always check your owners manual to be sure
I did my research on the recommended oil weight and it varies in between 5w-40 to 15w40 depending on climate. I only drive it in warm weather and it’s a high mileage engine so I prefer a thicker oil. Yes it has a gasoline engine and it coincidentally shares the same oil weight as many Diesel engines.
I wondered the same thing. I use Rotella t4 in my motorcycle that shares the wet basket clutch with the engine. I use Rotella t4 because it does not have friction modifiers. For a gasoline engine you would want these additives. I would recommend Liqui Moly 2043 with m0s2 friction modifier. Works wonders for the old m102 engines.
this merc looks like a happy old car that probably last for ever

Subscribed ! Time to see other than diesels :)
How easy is it to move to old beast with the castors under the wheels ?
Liviu It’s actually not that bad on polished concrete as long as the floor is clean and free of debris.
I ‘m using VALVOLIN 10/40 maxlife in red box
is it ok or it it thin for such old engine ?
Depends on your climate. But I wouldn’t worry about it.
Güzel video ligue moly 10/60 motor yağını öneririm 🎉❤
Great job
So where did you find the wheels? I have the same wheels as in this video but whitewalls will look even better
The wheels came with the car, but I found the whitewall tires from an online source.
Отличный автомобиль. Я также владею 123 и 124 Мерседесом и с большим удовольствием смотрю видео о данных марках.

Great, I am glad you enjoyed it. They are a great simple car to work on and very reliable.
@@DyleupWestburn I agree with you. I also really like the 123 Mercedes for its comfort and reliability.

That’s a good question, Mine always maxes out the gauge while driving and sits around 2 bar while idling. What oil weight do you use? I use 15w40.
@@DyleupWestburn thanks for the reply, yes I use the same oil

@@DyleupWestburn Super! Thanks a lot. Keep the videos coming 👍
it could be also the oil viscosity that you're using, or the fact that you may be using synthetic oil. Mineral oil is the best for this cars.
Wunderbarr
Why did you go for shell and not for a other brand like castrol gtx 15w40 etc?
Is this type of part the same for other variants of the w123, such as the 240D?
No, the oil filters are not interchangeable between the gasoline and Diesel engines.
The filter for the diesels is like twice that size. And the oil comes out black as tar.
Nice lovely 😍 car
Hello. I have a w123, 230 (1976) gas&LPG. is this oil good for my car?

Why you use oil for diesel engines in petrol engine????

which engine series is that?
This car has the M102.980 engine. 2.3L in-line 4cyl with the Bosch mechanical fuel delivery system.
@@DyleupWestburn oh ok. Cool. Great video.
not sure about burning waste oil....it's carcinogenic.
