covid really f'd up a lot of kpop groups lol even bts, i feel like they would've won those grammys had they not been forced to cancel their tour cus that was the last crucial piece in their western market takeover. they were so close
Don't forget the financial scandal and HYPE attempted takeover. I honestly believe those hurt SuperM's comeback were teased last year. Honestly, SuperM should've been back the moment BTS announced their military enlistment. I know it's not that easy, but it was a missed opportunity.
I think one of the biggest reason that they can't continue touring is because of COVID. But I really enjoyed superM, they made me realize how great SM groups are an individual them is. And they had great time together
That's how I bumped into Taemin and Baekhyun. I remember Taemin, right after he handed his leader duty to Baekhyun, he joked to the whole group about Lee Sooman and they all laughed like mad. So much has transpired since!
I mean it could have worked, if only they had been more consistent. I get they were all in existing groups but they needed to make time for SuperM too. They just kept overloading the previous groups with comebacks
@@AcrossTheAtlasOfficial I did wonder what had happened to EXO. Does anyone know what's happening with SM now that Chinese company wants to sell their part off as it's not bringing them the return they wanted? I've not heard anything lately. I did think they'd jump ship as they have a bad rep for asset striping and jumping ship if they can't asset strip a company.
For a SMTown artists stan like me, SuperM and GOT the Beat were dreams-come-true. I still love these groups a lot, but i understand that they are busy so anytime SuperM and GOT the Beat have a comeback, i'll treat them like precious collabs.
@@Booniestbf, the song has so many good parts (ESPECIALLY THE VERSES 100/10 THEY'RE ACTUALLY INSANE) but I think the arrangement takes away from how good it could be. I don't hate it but when it randomly plays I usually listen to the verses and then skip
I agree SuperM is amazing but the groups that the members come from have their own charisma. I confirm this as an Exo-L and NCTzen. SM always puts out cool groups but sucks at managing them.
No Manners is iconic and Mark's verse of Jopping was iconic too even though the main line of that song is... um... yeah. BY THE WAY 2020 WAS AN INCREDIBLE YEAR FOR KPOP?! Stray Kids Gods Menu & Back Door, NCT Kick It & Make a Wish, Itzy Wannabe, Red Velvet Psycho, BTS On and Dynamite. And more
Well when you read the Bible, repent all your sins, and get the HOLY SPIRIT to come UPON your body. That’s a REAL RELIGIOUS experience you’re missing. Not some FALSE “IDOLS.” Let’s pray for your salvation if you IDOLIZE FALSE GODS. TAEMIN is my bias for NEVER to I IDOLIZE him in such a way I call it a “RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE.” Sadly you’re missing the SPIRIT of god which heals you fully and you can HEAR, SEE, FEEL the SPIRIT OF GOD LITERALLY. Now that’s a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE you’re missing.
I actually enjoyed SuperM but u wish they were more consistent with them. Same with GOT the Beat if they can find amazing concepts for them and make them unique in their own way then both groups would be unstoppable.
After watching the video I don't see why this was a dumb idea, nor was it unsuccessful. They didn't need to support the investment of Beyond Live by themselves, because it could be used by other groups. And since it brought attention to the platform internationally such a "global" group was the best way to get it started.
Does anyone remember how insane it was that SM Entertainment actually did this? Like, they put on a whole spectacle for SuperM's debut and looking back on it I miss how K-pop companies would do crazy stuff like this 😅
Dumbest? Really? Coming from a YG stan who only considered SM's artists after I discovered NCT and SuperM, yes, Jopping was a bit gimmicky but the only reason SuperM wasn't a "good" idea was because kpop fandoms are full of JEALOUS fans. Jealousy aside, the idea is great if they're able to work around their schedules. They indeed have the best members and they have great songs (Tiger Inside, etc.). So many of the fans of other members of SHINee, NCT and EXO who weren't chosen to be part of SM were jealous for their faves and even fans of SuperM members were also threatened by how good other SuperM members were performing beside their fave members who they thought were the best. (ex. Some EXO and SHINee fans hated NCT members cuz they were threatened by their rap and dance skills and their charisma saying SuperM is only used to promote NCT members when in fact most lines and center time were given to EXO and SHINee members). Also, I think SuperM actually was fun for the members themselves. NCT members get to work with the seniors they looked up to, Taemin gets to work with Kai and Ten, and Baekhyun gets to be the leader. Also SHINee and EXO became more relevant to younger fans while older fans get to consider checking out the NCT. Of course this only applies to fans who care more about talent rather than competing with other fandoms. SuperM was actually one of the best things that happened for people who aren't caught up in fanwars and only want to enjoy great performances where no member lags behind.
@@arien_000agreed!! 100% and thank you for pointing out how when it was first announced, how nct members really got backlash for no reason really. This was a mess with fan wars and many pointing fingers at nct for the reason "their favs" will be in the infamous basement of sm lol. Of course, that never happened. Something that did annoy me as I made in my own comment, is the lack of proper mention of capital records. Yes he did say they teamed up but it is HEAVILY downplaying how much capital was involved. They were the main brainchild for super m, lee sooman/sm thought "why not?". Jopping was not sm's money but capitals lmao. Sm was just for music and the artist and doing the kpop side of things. Capital was the marketing and western side of things. This group idea is really a smart one, truly just they sadly had bumps in the way that were out of their control. It isn't a dumb idea and I know it's for watch reasons but could have titled it as "missed potential " which would have worked better imo (everything else was great but my critic is the capital records thing not being mentioned and making it all sm only. It wasn't again, there is proof) it is funny how super m is like, the joke in kpop but we have companies like hybe doing global groups themselves (which apparently will have a Netflix show after their debut documenting the formation) and i giggle to myself how kpop fans are picky when certain concepts are ok and not ok.
@@InternetsNathan then I have to say your title is as gimmicky as Jopping. But I understand. Honestly, I was hoping for at least one more album from SuperM but I'm honestly not comfortable about Lucas being part of it again. He's just too controversial. Although honestly, I doubt they will still make a comeback because Taemin and Baekhyun already left SM as solo artists and there are just so many haters in kpop these days.
SuperM is my favourite group after exo. I definitely enjoyed their music. As for their success, it's SM's fault in my opinion. SM should have made a better plan for them and keep the comeback consistent. I think the idea of super group is actually great. If Collab between artists is acceptable, it can work the same way. Getting talented artists like SuperM members in one group is insane. If one doesn't like their music, it's the listener's taste of music, not the artist's lackings. My journey with SuperM has been great and I'm still hoping they somehow make a comeback.
I really don't see anything wrong with SuperM's concept and songs. The songs are catchy and have the same vibe as Exo, Nct and SHINee's songs. The concept makes sense for the SMEU lore. I really don't understand people's obsession of hating on the group for no reason when it offers more people to discover 3-4 groups at the same time.
@@Mulukan57 well they didn’t do for EXO much. Like you create a group where Exo members are there but there is zero Exo content, even their previous contents also do not have English subtitle. Their minimum new content is not accessible for no korean🤷♀️ how is it good promotion. Oh yes, not releasing link of their album to buy, not producing enough album to buy, bare minimum to no promotional shows for their album after and before the release. And of course members themselves calling it out and leaving the company for it, fans do not hate them without reason tho
@SadiaIslamShouki SM used to be good at promoting their group but since around 2020, they suck so much idk what happend. But thats the fate of old groups in SM... cuz Nct was promoted really well during that time. SM after all just business corporation. They'll prioritise new artists yknow. But whatever happened with exo is really iffy. After 2018, they don't attend award show, music festival, variety show and barely attend SMtown.
It isn't only Lucas now, but Baekhyun left SM and Taemin is scheduled to leave too, so I think this marks SuperM's official end. Also enlistment is ongoing, Kai is in the military, Taeyong will go soon. The project could've worked better if they had a system like NCT, so with the possibility to add new members to cover for those on hiatus or those who left. Also it seems they were highly overworked, because they never slowed down their group/solo activities and it seems they haven't earned much from it. It could've been a cool idea, but it was executed really bad.
I don't think that some of the members leaving for solo activities impacts SuperM at all, because their original groups are still under the label, so SuperM could be as well.
@@aligensait's much harder to manage schedules for 2 groups when you're in different companies. and i'm kinda sure both Taemin and Baek would rather focus on solo more if they switched agencies for it instead of a second group. i also remember that Taemin wasn't promoting with SHINee when he was with SuperM because his members were in the military. it was easier back then besides, it seems like SM isn't interested in SuperM now, it was Lee Soo man's passion project, and he left
@@sleeplessnight03 I didn't say that SuperM was likely to continue, just that the fact that some of the members left for solo activities wouldn't necessarily prevent that. Smaller agencies work more for the artists rather than the other way round, so they would be likely to prioritize what they want. Whether they want is another matter.
@@aligensa Baekhyun or SM haven't mentioned SuperM though. When they announced he would leave, they said clearly that he would continue his activities with EXO but they didn't say anything about SuperM. Also he hasn't just left, he's the ceo of his own company so he has extra work to take care of especially since his company isn't a one man only but has two other artists to take care of. Of course there's a tiny possibility he might want to still do it, but by the time everyone finishes their enlistement and assuming Lucas drama won't be an issue, SM might have moved on from that project and they might just try to establish a new super group (if they'll ever want to try it again).
@@ayakoha yeah, they also only mentioned SHINee in the announcement about Taemin, and Taemin said please 'keep supporting me as a SHINee member and Taemin'
unfortunate that they debuted right before a lot of the members' military era but if only they had continued with some short EPs with 4-5 of the guys to fill the time
It sucks that their music was actually SOOOO good like??? I listen to their songs and something about already proven artists being at their fullest is just amazing. SO glad I saw them live on their tour!
You're so lucky I wish I would've gone to their concert but I was so busy with work back then and the shitty ticket system back then didn't let me purchase one. Now I can only DREAM to watch all my biases in one group. TT
Omg I loved SuperM! It was my way back to Taemin and SHINee. Very fond memories with these fellas. Whether they return or not, I'll always be happy I got to see Taemin in a different setting. They were great!
Although some members left SM, they can still participate in SuperM activities. Like how the EXO members who aren't in SM will still participate in EXO activities.
@@EverRoxas well EXO and SuperM is different situation 🤷♀️ EXO spent 12 years, of course members are dedicated to her, so they made a way to be together, whether they had to be under SM for that while for SuperM, they don’t have that special feeling for her, hence they Won't and shouldn’t sacrifice their solo career for company so that they can make more money🤷♀️ CBX and Soo signed special contract where they will comeback for EXO but their solo schedule will be handle by their own company
SuperM was a genius idea only if the original groups weren’t mistreated like slaves🤷♀️ especially EXO. Exo-l couldn’t whole heartedly supported them knowing how badly Exo is treated snd how both Baekhyun and Kai was there as cash cow. I am obviously speaking as Exo-l, so don't know how Nct and Shinee fan felt.
so, to sum this up: Taemin and Baekhyun left SM, Kai and Taeyong enlisted for the military, Lucas left NCT, Mark is focusing on 127 and Dream and Ten is focusing on WayV and his solo debut. and to make it all better, Lee Soo Man himselft left SM and Hybe has almost 15 percent stake of SM. WOW. 💀🤡
It just blows my mind how their debut album was so good but then “Jopping” was the lead track 🤦🏽♀️ And the worst part was that the song could’ve been good if they just didn’t use the ridiculous phrase “jopping”. It could’ve easily been a line like, “when we step on the stage, we get it poppin”…something…ANYTHING other than “Jopping” 🥴
we need that SM video why lee soo-man left, and why it might be the downfall of SM. now artists are leaving and hype bought his shares. I think I need a whole breakdown. P.S love your videos
One of the crazy things for me was that while SuperM was debuting and going on the first leg of their tour, EXO was also in the middle of a huge Asian tour
You mentioned all their songs except One ( Monster and Infinity) even though you played it and can’t stand the rain lol. I loved your breakdown and inclusion of the promotions they did. Definitely subscribing
The only thing that went wrong with this group was the timing. Covid locked down the world FIVE MONTHS after they toured and by time the world opened back up, the eldest members started their military enlistments. If Covid hadn’t happened then they would have been fine. With Lucas coming back and Taeyong starting his military service soon (and the last one that will have to), we could have the full group back together and able to do another promotion in a year and a half.
Super M has got many good songs but my absolutely fave song from them are Tiger Inside & One (monster & infinity)... they're in my playlist still ❣ Love the MVs too. I miss them.
SuperM was so great, I’m glad I saw them on tour❤ as a big EXO-L, being able to finally see at least Kai & Baekhyun made me so freaking happy. Honestly everyone in SuperM has such amazing talent and seeing them come together was an incredible experience. Even tho I was unsure of the group at first, they did well❤❤❤❤
This is random but in case anyone didn’t know, Kai’s superpower is teleportation. He teleported in Exo’s Mama, in Jopping and in his solo mv Mmmh. I don’t know if it is just coincidence or planned but it’s such a satisfying detail.
SuperM solidified my love for k-pop. Taemin’s Move, dance practice was what got me started. He’s mesmerizing. Sad that SuperM is no longer a thing. LOVED their b-sides. Their choreo was STUNNING to watch. The best of the best dancers together = 🔥 🔥 🔥
I always thought that SuperM would have best worked as a group with rotating members that would encorporate non-enlisted SM group members so they could still work while their enlisted members were gone.
I stayed up all night to watch the debut and thought it was "too much". But as I listened to them and kept up with their comebacks I must say that... they actually DID work! Love them so much!
It's very sad and disrespectful of the company to waste 7 excellent artists trying at all costs to make them "the next BTS" by copying ideas and concepts that BTS released before. It would be much more enriching if they took advantage of these talented and experienced artists to create something new, fresh and with their own personality, to create a unique identity.
Super groups are a terrible idea, not just on Kpop, but in general. Usually, executives aspire to conquer multiple fandom with a group, but the fans are more worried about the mistreatment of the original groups, or in Kpop, the fandom is divided by bias, so in the best scenario you can't hope for the audience of the whole group, but at the best you shoot for the fans of one member, and even that isn't guaranteed. Supergroups divide fandoms, makes the original groups feel left out, and the idols are worked tirelessly so accidents, injuries and leaves of absence could happen. In rock, supergroups aren't that bad because the members join in the meantime between projects and usually is about people largely successful, but in Kpop is just a laboratory product, diminishing the potential. Also, another point: some idols even have solo career in parallel to groups activities, so people like Taemin not only isn't releasing SHINee material, but also Taemin music, which is also excellent, so imagine that fans, trying to avoid the anger and being willing to put themselves again for a new group. It's bonkers.
I still remember people getting sooo upset that Taemin was dubbed the “leader?” Like what was the problem?! He is (almost) the oldest, oldest to have debut, most experienced. I’m still mad netizens felt it necessary to dethrone the leader title of Taemin
It was a good idea and Capital Records did their part to make it happen. Fans were even coming around to it, the main problem was that S.M wasn't transparent with the american label or the fans. They kept announcing things and then not going through with it. S.m is just a very unorganized company and they are used to fans doing most of the heavy lifting in terms of promotion and whatnot. Korean fans didn't want this group but super m were on their way to developing a lot of western fans similar to bts. But unlike hybe there was little to no organization and honestly it's a miracle the company is still up and running. They are used to doing the bare minimum and having fans do most of the heavy lifting. They assume their groups are a gift to the world and it's not their job to promote or even try to maintain popularity. That's s.m's problem. The american person in charge of overseeing super m retired during the pandemic and with most of super m's promo being in asia, but being that they invested millions of the group even if they pulled back slightly it shouldn't have been a problem. S.m completely did NOT pull their load. Capital invested millions and s.m just stopped trying as soon as they turned their backs. That type of behavior is just good enough to get the members blacklisted from Hollywood, but the management and people in charge could literally care less. This is the real reason for super m not doing as well as bts. Bts got popular and then worked to maintain popularity. Super m gained a little traction and s.m just stopped really trying. People don't understand that something as simple as giving super m a simple vlog channel or having the members do funny challenges could have literally saved the group. Even that was too much for s.m. It's not surprising because they even try and deny older groups something as simple as a documentary. They must get tons of offers but they never adhere to any of them because they want as much money in their pockets as possible. The company is full of greedy money hungry people and it has always been this way. I have known about kpop since I was like 7, Boa was on MTV in America back in the day, but what happened? What always happens S.m puts in a little effort and then expects the world to be so grateful for their product that they, the fans, should do the promoting for them. That is not how the west works, that's why everything they do in the u.s is always a "failure". It's not a failure, they just feel like if they put in 20% effort and don't get back number one billboard results that it's not worth it. Even in Korea, they wanted Kai to promote Rover for a week and if he did that then he wouldn't have eventually one first place. People have stayed silent on s.m too long, it is not just them being incompetent they are purposely sabotaging their artists careers. It's not a coincidence so many people have sued the company for the exact same thing, they do not like their own artists, it's clear as day. Could you even imagine a 20 year old Justin Bieber being treated like an s.m idol, it never would of happened because Scooter was invested in his artists best interest. Where there is smoke their is fire. Super m revealed how S.m operates, they want money but even more than that they want complete control. Their artists don't succeed in the west because they can mistreat them without fans complaining in the east, it's not as easy to see what's going on in Korea. They obviously don't want american news reporters that they can't buy and control doing articles on them . The management team at the company is very egotistical way more than the artists and they like to trick investors into thinking the company or a project will do fantastic but then when it doesn't do as well as expected they put in ZERO effort. Just poor work ethic and it makes the artists look bad. All of super m worked very hard, too hard for s.m to do absolutely nothing with the group after 2021. S.M is a shameful shameful company, they deserve all the bad karma they are getting and worse. All of their legacy artists should leave, let the management perform onstage since it's obvious they are power hungry to such a disastrous degree.
I fully agree with your comment. You said everything i have been thinking about SM these past few years. As a kpop fan who was mostly into sm group, the way this company operates is insane to me. Im an exol and i will always be bitter with the way they mistreated the members and purposely sabotaged their careers and popularity. Exo could have been HUGE on the west. At some point in time they were compared a lot to Bts in terms of popularity (this was baaack in 2014-2015 I believe, Bts was gaining traction on the west and Exo was at their top). The exo members had so much potential to do so much more back in those years. I remember Kai was wanted as a ambassador of many west brands, western artists wanted to collaborate with them and the fans were BEGGING for world tours. And till this day, Sm refused to give them a proper world tour. Exo is a 14 year old group. They are considered legendary veteran idols and till this day, they have had only 8 concerts in TOTAL on the west (only on Canada, Usa and Mexico). They haven’t even been on Europe 😭 That’s ridiculous. They have had a total of five tours and only two of them included a few dates on the west. Im just completely appalled with how badly Sm refused to acknowledge that exo was and is still pretty damn popular around the world. I went to see superm in Mexico city not because i loved the group, but because I knew that the chances of seeing some exo members and Taemin again were minimal or nonexistent.
TBH, I think BTS maintained their popularity because of fans. Even when they were on hiatus, their popularity was growing. I became a BTS fan in November 2022, five months after they announced the hiatus.
@@mely1022 As far as I know being an ARMY for 2 years BTS's popularity increased in 2017. Also in 2017 BBMAs EXO-Ls were angry at BBMAs for not nominating EXO but nominating BTS so they spoke sh*t about BTS and voted for Justin Bieber who was nominated along side BTS so that BTS doesn't win.
@@mely1022 the OP said BTS maintained their popularity by working hard that's true but even tho BTS are on Hiatus they have gained many fans and their popularity has only increased even tho they are on Hiatus

The fact that I was thinking about them the other day like I completely forgot about them until I was thinking about. I was like "I wonder what's going on with SuperM. I havent heard from them in a while." I really enjoy listeninf to SuperM but it sucks that they werent consistent tho.
I loved SuperM….miss them so much! Th timing of their Military service..killed them moving forward! If they came back..id be thrilled. SM biggest mistake was not promoting their huge groups in the west…like BTS was.
SuperM was one of the most exciting things that ever happened in kpop. The perfect group of visuals and talent. They were fun to watch. I hope they can return soon.
SuperM was the most brilliant business transaction I've ever witnessed. Capitol Records sets out to do business with a Korean label, they choose SM. Automatically that means all the finances for this project does not solely land on SM financial table. SM invests their portion of funds and CR invests their portion to attack the West. LS achieved his goal without spending a dime close to what he would've had to pay doing this project solo while pimpin' out not 1, not 2, but 3 groups including (3 NCT Units, 1 EXO Unit). The man had us all watching a video more than once just because all or favs was in one group, can't look at all of them at the same time. It was criminal. 'No Manners' and 'Drip' on repeat for life. *First Supergroup was Younique Unit.
They thought they would out do BTS, No way. Jopping, was the most ridiculous song ever. Even when they appeared on Ellen show, her face showed also how ridiculous that song was..
As an SM stan for over a decade, Super M was a blessing come true to us , SM stans . I mean they combined members from all the strong groups just like what happened in avengers as heroes from different movies under Marvel (SM)come together... The timing was wrong , covid happened, mistreatment of groups happened, Enlistment happened and lucas hiatus happened.. the group released dope albums and talent is filled to the brim
I took an 18 month break from listening to kpop while I was serving a church mission, so I had no idea what SuperM was when I got back. I was just trying to catch up on comebacks and assumed from the thumbnail that Jopping was an EXO comeback. I wasn't that familiar with EXO before my mission, but I at least knew all the members and couldn't for the life of me figure out who these other people aside from Kai and Beakhyun were lol! SuperM was the reason I got into Shinee and NCT! Love them!
Superm is the just a project to use sunbae group to promote NcT. Exo was more popular and more well known than NcT, the sm group that has most achievements like awards, daesangs, music show wins, etc. Sm is just too dumbed that only focus on new groups, should have promoted Exo rv or SHINee a while ago in the west. Till now there is not a single sm group that is popular in the west. Their strategy is bad and songs are not catering for western audiences
(Edited) Please do what happened to woo!ah!, T-ara, hellovenus, MBLAQ, afterschool, 9muses, BTOB, secret, Rainbow, brown eyed girls, day6, Nu'est, and pentagon because i've been requested for a very long time
first thing I want to say (this isn't in a mean way) for mentioning the idols individual groups you forgot to mention WayV , another thing when you do the next video focusing on the Lucas scandal please do your research properly because some of the people so far that have discussed about this have not done proper research on it which is very frustrating because now people are going to think this is right and think that its legit what those people be saying. ok thats all I have to say thank you
That's why I just mentioned the reason he left and not go in detail. Because while it was allegations against Lucas that was the reason he had to step back from WayV, NCT and SuperM.
Just a short comment from an ancient Kpop fan: Super M was not their first "super unit" of SM entertainment. They had Younique back in 2012 that was made of Eunhyuk and Henry from Suju, Taemin from Shinee, Kai and Luhan from EXO and was even co-ed because of Hyoyeon of SNSD and much as SuperM it crumbled down into nothing. But still memorable for the oldies.
I've been thinking a lot about this, why did they create SuperM when now it seems like the group doesn't even exist anymore? What will happen to them after Kai and Taeyeong come back from the army, last year they promised cb and nothing happened, but neither confirmed the group's disbandment and no member talks about it, will they come back one day?
If I wished for a comeback it would be SuperM without thinking twice. Besides the wacky marketing I love their whole discography without skipping. They are 🔥🔥🔥.
That year i was new in exploring kpop, superm actually make me explore the group behind it like exo shinee nct wayv and i remember that time i play the superstar game for the first time 😅
They wasted EXO so much. They could've gave them so many comebacks. Damnit SM. EXO was literally their biggest boy band at that time. They have the best vocalists in the company too
I think it was a dumb idea because SM try to hop into the bandwagon when Kpop became big in the western with the success of groups like Bts and Bp. Superm wasnt feel as organic as the other two bcs how the group created with heavy promotion and 'dumb' songs with no meaningful message at all. They should've been pushing their established groups such as Nct, exo or shinee rather than this 'fabricated' group.
I genuinely think NCT could’ve done something like BTS bc they have Mark and he could’ve become a personality with his natural English and their futuristic concept
@@rvminoThey could never achieve success like BTS with Nct tho🤷♀️ Nct is that one SM group Which need the most time to get success in the company. Their confusing concept made it worse, BTS is successful because their concept is easy, like some of their concepts were made after they became hit. SM could have hit the west with EXO or RV, especially with EXO in 2014-15 and RV could have followed them but they abandoned them, I bet SM never imagined anyone getting into the western market before Nct, but BTS after their not so Successful venture, they tried their last chance in the west and it worked, as they were the only group promoting there, SM struggle a lot to establish Nct's sound, meanwhile BP took the shot with their meaningless Bops.
They were due to tour in Asia, starting in Tokyo, but then covid happened. It's hard to tour when the world is shut down. SuperM were extremely successful given that some of the members are from 2nd and 3rd gen groups. It was just unfortunately timed with covid and now ongoing military enlistments. GOT the beat are different as SM did little to no promo compared to SuperM so they were really a one and done project.
Super M is LSM’s ego project. It is his last attempt to compete with the rise of Big Hit and BTS. The whole world was talking about them like BTS is KPOP, and BTS gaining a reputation as “the Avengers of Kpop” for their concentration and diversity of talents within a group, and Bang PD as the genius behind them. LSM felt some type of way about it, and that’s understandable. SuperM is Lee Soo Man’s last grasp to claim the Kpop legacy. Up to then, and even now, his legacy is his contribution to the iron clad grip of the infamous slave contracts. Not to mention the systemization and legalization of the exploitations of young lives to the point of de*th. This isn’t an opinion. The facts related to this are out there on public records. It is no coincidence that he offered some of his shares of SME to HYBE only a few years later, followed by selling to HYBE the remaining of all of his stock in SM recently.
I am glad I was there when all of this unfolded and yeah as you said, why did I sit back like it was all normal 😂. Fun times. Looking back Jopping and its MV were really iconic but I think the problem was, were they giving us anything different from the rest to stand out, according to my opinion, NO. Also, for all I know American public or even new American K-pop fans did not care much about an "avengers" because they might not have been very aware of all of them. so, they coudn't capitalise on the new k-pop wave happening in the US then. For all I know, they were just another K-Pop group for them. But I really thought it would lead to a trend in the K-Pop scene and all other companies would follow which did not happen. Although, I still fantasize the idea.
The next attempt to increase popularity in the USA after SuperM was with English songs that copy what is currently in the American charts, which sadly is ongoing - sad because it involves lack of quality, originality and meaningfulness. But since so far nobody is successful with that (and SM has stayed away from it so far except with Ten, because he's Thai, so he might as well do English songs), except for BTS, whose fans are numerous and support anything, that probably won't be the future either, and HYBE has already announced the next strategy; cooperating with local companies to produce local or "globalized" groups with the methods of Kpop (training, marketing etc). What we've seen so far of the
It wasn’t the dumbest idea. They actually did better than Younique Unit. They came out with good songs. But they’re all part of very busy groups already. So you can’t expect SuperM to come out with new stuff every month.
i am a company stan, I love SM and their concepts and music, so it makes sense that I will tune into groups like that. I feel like SM is the only company that has a lot of company stans, which is why it made some sense
Jopping was and still is such a great song and the MV was absolutely beautiful. I hope they get to perform together again. Wish you talked about Korean Air. SuperM did a safety video for them and the music video (Let’s go anywhere) is quite cute. I liked how they incorporated kids in the video .
This stings a little. My SuperM light stick never saw its second concert. We had an amazing time, though, at the first (and only, really) Kpop concert in San Diego. Jopped our lil hearts out
Look, Kpoppers have such a short memory and are so critical. The SuperM project was very good, but it came about under unfortunate circumstances, and I mean COVID. However, SuperM was a pioneer in doing a stream concert during the pandemic, when there was nothing in that format in Kpop until then. And what happened next? The rest of the companies did it too. The world economy was unstable, there were risks of illness, there were many changes and things to try, many contracts and tour opportunities had to be postponed. And something that should have grown gradually became intertwined with individual projects, with internal problems, etc. That's why SMCU seems so rushed with Aespa and other projects, they had to rethink everything. I think it could have been a very successful project in the long term, unfortunately between all these problems and SM's own poor management, and now that both Baek and Taemin decided to leave the company, the project will remain as another milestone in kpop history.
What Happened? Covid happened then Military Enlistment happened
Exactly ! COVID happened.b
covid really f'd up a lot of kpop groups lol even bts, i feel like they would've won those grammys had they not been forced to cancel their tour cus that was the last crucial piece in their western market takeover. they were so close
Right and now LSMs nephew is destroying the company and Taemin has left SM . Oh well, I still have my lights tick.
Don't forget the financial scandal and HYPE attempted takeover. I honestly believe those hurt SuperM's comeback were teased last year. Honestly, SuperM should've been back the moment BTS announced their military enlistment. I know it's not that easy, but it was a missed opportunity.
Tryyy...to drama🎉🎉🎉 They'd Amezing !! Just great live performance :)
I think one of the biggest reason that they can't continue touring is because of COVID. But I really enjoyed superM, they made me realize how great SM groups are an individual them is. And they had great time together
Watching and editing this video I do see the members really enjoying the whole time in SuperM
With the exception of Exo
Everyone went to the military
@@nolia920 they were WAY inactive even before the mandatory service. The service was just a extension of the inactivity in my opinion
Except exo. They got next to nothing 🫤
For a SMTown artists stan like me, SuperM and GOT the Beat were dreams-come-true. I still love these groups a lot, but i understand that they are busy so anytime SuperM and GOT the Beat have a comeback, i'll treat them like precious collabs.

It was SuperM who got me and my friends into k-pop and we start to explore the groups they come from. We are from Europe and still into k-pop.
Yoo literally same! It was Jopping that made me interested in Kpop, more specifically NCT
And more
Did you say Tiger Inside was kinda eh?! That’s wild. It’s the best song on that album, imo.
IKR, I love Tiger inside.
Waking up at 3am to watch jopping for the first time was a religious experience considering my ults were exo and nct at the time
Well when you read the Bible, repent all your sins, and get the HOLY SPIRIT to come UPON your body. Now that’s a RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCE you’re missing.
watching it at 7:40 before going to school was such an experience
was… nct and exo are still top tier
I actually enjoyed SuperM but u wish they were more consistent with them. Same with GOT the Beat if they can find amazing concepts for them and make them unique in their own way then both groups would be unstoppable.
SuperM got me into kpop, and from there i looked into all of their respective groups! i owe a lot to this crazy idea lol
Superm group not so serious group male just for fun only and for taemin
@@arien_000 I agree with everything you said! It's just title to get people to watch the video 😅
SuperM was 👌 I will not back down from it.
If SM just committed to it fully and didn't use it as a way to promote projects...
yes and concentrated on making sure the lads had something different to offer.
Agree miss them
SuperM is my favourite group after exo.

Oh yes, not releasing link of their album to buy, not producing enough album to buy, bare minimum to no promotional shows for their album after and before the release. @SadiaIslamShouki SM used to be good at promoting their group but since around 2020, they suck so much idk what happend. But thats the fate of old groups in SM... cuz Nct was promoted really well during that time. SM after all just business corporation. They'll prioritise new artists yknow.

@@aligensait's much harder to manage schedules for 2 groups when you're in different companies. and i'm kinda sure both Taemin and Baek would rather focus on solo more if they switched agencies for it instead of a second group. i also remember that Taemin wasn't promoting with SHINee when he was with SuperM because his members were in the military. it was easier back then
besides, it seems like SM isn't interested in SuperM now, it was Lee Soo man's passion project, and he left

Even tho I was unsure of the group at first, they did well❤❤❤❤
I miss them, at least I can complete my SuperM collection since they only have two albums out ig
Since this all was Lee Sooman’s brainchild, I don’t think they would have a comeback anymore tho. That’s sad because I really did enjoy them.
Oh my gosh thank you for this video. I miss watching your What Happened? videos please make more soon.
Bravo well said.
How are supergroups lab products in kpop
I still remember people getting sooo upset that Taemin was dubbed the “leader?” Like what was the problem?! He is (almost) the oldest, oldest to have debut, most experienced. I’m still mad netizens felt it necessary to dethrone the leader title of Taemin
SM has been trying so hard for decades to make it big in the states and they are still failing big time
It was a good idea and Capital Records did their part to make it happen.
I went to see superm in Mexico city not because i loved the group, but because I knew that the chances of seeing some exo members and Taemin again were
minimal or nonexistent.

Idk how this group was considered a dumb idea. I loved it. Having the best in that industry in one group was so cool
SuperM was my first K-Pop concert experience. So I’ll always have the fondest memories of them ❤️.
They thought they would out do BTS, No way. Jopping, was the most ridiculous song ever. Even when they appeared on Ellen show, her face showed also how ridiculous that song was..
the concept was very stupid, like, avengers of k-pop? really? , I feel bad for mark for being part of it
fr
As a new K-Pop fan, this seems like some fever dream shit lol😂
as a k-pop fan of nearly ten years and a fan of all of the groups involved, it kind of feels that way in hindsight lol
😂
I remember attending their concert in Chicago 4 years ago back in there first tour. That was my very first kpop concert loll
It was called avengers because they assembled from different groups lol duh
Their strategy is bad and songs are not catering for western audiences
i would love an episode about TripleS and Jaden Jeong's ideas behind their "idol of all possibilities" concept
I'd love to! And maybe ask the man himself about it... 👀
@@InternetsNathan NATHAN YOU SLY DAWG
He step back from NCT/WayV but not SuperM.
Almost worked!? I thought Jopping was a whole bop.
I love their album so I'm good
I've been thinking a lot about this, why did they create SuperM when now it seems like the group doesn't even exist anymore? What will happen to them after Kai and Taeyeong come back from the army, last year they promised cb and nothing happened, but neither confirmed the group's disbandment and no member talks about it, will they come back one day?
i remember superm so clearly and i was waiting for a comeback but now i see they’re gone
Don't forget that SuperM had that one 2019 collab with Korean Air for a in-flight safety video that they still have playing on flights lol
Those lightsticks lookings fiiiine I still need to get the ARTMS one
You should! Gotta support the girls
If I wished for a comeback it would be SuperM without thinking twice. Besides the wacky marketing I love their whole discography without skipping.
They are 🔥🔥🔥.
That year i was new in exploring kpop, superm actually make me explore the group behind it like exo shinee nct wayv and i remember that time i play the superstar game for the first time 😅
Me too!
BTS had a message, but BP?
I genuinely think NCT could’ve done something like BTS bc they have Mark and he could’ve become a personality with his natural English and their futuristic concept
I would agrue that BP never had a message and tbh most of their so called success was all media hype.
@@rvminoThey could never achieve success like BTS with Nct tho🤷♀️ Nct is that one SM group Which need the most time to get success in the company. Their confusing concept made it worse, BTS is successful because their concept is easy, like some of their concepts were made after they became hit. SM could have hit the west with EXO or RV, especially with EXO in 2014-15 and RV could have followed them but they abandoned them, I bet SM never imagined anyone getting into the western market before Nct, but BTS after their not so Successful venture, they tried their last chance in the west and it worked, as they were the only group promoting there, SM struggle a lot to establish Nct's sound, meanwhile BP took the shot with their meaningless Bops.
his story telling style is so fun to listen.😂
Thanks! 😊
Didn’t love “Jopping,” but did enjoy the song on the Korean Air flight safety video.
I feel like SM is promoting aespa now
I am glad I was there when all of this unfolded and yeah as you said, why did I sit back like it was all normal 😂.
Taeyong looked extremely fine in tiger inside omd i'm still not over it.
Jopping was and still is such a great song and the MV was absolutely beautiful. I hope they get to perform together again.
Wish you talked about Korean Air. SuperM did a safety video for them and the music video (Let’s go anywhere) is quite cute. I liked how they incorporated kids in the video .
I was sure that Ten was part of superm
He was.
he is wdym????
I loved Super M. We went to see them in Cali. The concert was really great.. SO LONG is my absolute best track by them..
SAME, FINALLY SOMEONE APPRECIATES SO LONG, I FUCKING LOVE THAT SONG.
This stings a little. My SuperM light stick never saw its second concert.
We had an amazing time, though, at the first (and only, really) Kpop concert in San Diego.
Jopped our lil hearts out
Who is still Jopping in 2024? 😂
