All of the "controversy's" I've heard about cube is just certain idol fans either blowing things out of proportion OR preferencing the idol aspect over the business aspect which is an oversight considering cube IS A business. Essentially people just shit on cube so unnecessarily, even though some things said are true.
Edit: 12:40 see right there, proving my point. Yujin did not say those words all she pretty much said on that subject was she didn't want the group to disband but it did anyways and that made her sad because she still wanted to be apart of a group which is why she joined the show. There are clips on that interview for proof as well if you watch the show yourself they have there own subs confirming this
Edit #2: lol 13:30 you essentially said right there that cube tried it's best to defend soojin against the bullying accusation but failed. Literally never heard of a company going after the bullying accusers for their idols. And yet cube sucks? 🤔

Considering how their shares dropped in 2016, i'd say not renewing Jihyun, Jiyoon, Gayoon and Sohyun was a really big hit, and the entire mess that was BEAST leaving was what sealed the deal for them to be a laughing stock. But, definitely they kept adding more messes to the preexisting one.

cube owes their self-producing artists A LOT. if it weren’t for btob, hui, kino, wooseok, yuqi, minnie, and THE jeon soyeon, they wouldn’t survive let’s be honest. it saves them a lot of time of money when releasing music as the members do it themselves, and boy do they do it excellently.

@@gamorapotter9946 how is it harder when their own artists does the work for them? all they gotta do is as you said, review songs submitted by the artists, produce physical albums, and promotions. it’s the same process if they’re going to hire a (or a team of) producer(s) for an ep or an album, except they’re going to spend a lot for those producers.
i love clc and this is nothing against the members but that’s exactly how they fell off. cube mismanaged their music because they probably got babied by their self-sufficient artists. they have no sense of music direction for clc. and they refuse to spend a lot of money for their music production. hyuna helped with hobgoblin, soyeon helped producing their last ep, and probably the reason why they only had singles prior to their disbandment.

"If you want to make things exciting, follow cube." As someone who's loved btob and pentagon for a long time, I'm laugh crying. There's things I appreciate about cube, I see them "recycling" idols as a good thing. Not just beast members and Hyuna, but pentagon's Hongseok and gidle's Miyeon are former yg trainees, Jinho is a former sm trainee, etc. They really are talented and I'm glad they got a second chance under cube even if they didn't make it under the big 3. They certainly produce banger music and videos. But the way they treat some of their artists like trash, especially throwing them under the bus when a scandal hits, just makes me sad. Or how they mismanaged clc, they could have been big, if only cube had pushed and promoted them better after hobgoblin and black dress. I have so many conflicting feelings.
Oh, and Apink's company IST entertainment (formerly A Cube, Plan A, Play M) is a very interesting side story too :D

i agree about the clc part like all their songs after hobbogoblin era are good and they have a huge fanbase internationally its just that they give less effort to promote their idols and i remember sorn once said that they want to have a girl crush concept but cube gave them the other way around. i dont think that cube give their artists the freedom to express their talent and creativity in music especially to female idols, because if they do then maybe yeeun and the other clc members has produced some of their maybe self-produced songs and soyeon wouldn't have pursue the company to debut with latata and soyeon's other produced songs in the i am album and latata mv will have better location and set

    • @viktoriavadon2222
      @viktoriavadon2222 2 года назад

@Kartik Khandelwal Huh? All I said about beast was that I'm glad the members got a second chance under cube. Although there must have been a reason the boys chose not to resign, they likely felt they could promote themselves better. I just think it was childish on cube's side to hold onto the name when they couldn't keep the group, it was useless and just petty, don't know of other mistreatment, but that push and pull around beast leaving reflected quite bad on the company. It was Hyuna and Dawn, and Ilhoon and Soojin seeing the worst of cube management. I don't understand how wins are related to fanwars? (Unless we're talking about situations like when dreamcatcher was snubbed, but that's another can of worms.) It's not cube's fault that clc din't win with hobgoblin yet, and obviously it would have helped the girls if they did. But their popularity began rising and cube could have pushed harder then and stuck with the girl crush concept, instead where are you happened, then long periods between comebacks and the public just forgot about them again. Certainly not cube's biggest mistake, but they could have done better there.

According to Soyeon, she too was feeling that it was all over. The atmosphere within CUBE was like they were the walking dead. During a meeting (with Minnie and Yuqi still overseas on their forced hiatus) they all decided then and there that it wasn't over yet, and that they should try for it one last time. Miyeon and Shuhua especially picked Soyeon up (given they were in Korea at the time). Soyeon said that she had long emotional talks with Miyeon, while Shuhua transformed into a cheerleader who every day was working harder to improve. With this, Soyeon's flame was sparked. When Minnie and Yuqi came back, they immediately got to work themselves. Remember, Yuqi came back with basically conquering China. She was the most famous she ever was, and had a ton of confidence coming with her. That spirit also helped. In short, everyone was on fire and wanted to prove I-DLE wasn't done. So yeah, Soyeon writes the hits, but she is quick to point out that I NEVER DIE came about because ALL of them poured their hearts and soul into that album. They lifted each other up, it was no one person who saved I-DLE. I-DLE saved I-DLE.

Interesting video, but sadly it glosses over a lot of the scandals and the reason for the older groups leaving and the general mistreatment and mismanagment of the artists by that blue square company.
As a B2uty and a light, I can tell you BEAST leaving that blue square wasn't pretty and that company did absolutely everything in their power to keep them there, even stripping them of their name.
As a 4NIA I can also say the way they handled 4minutes disbandment was downright hateful, especially towards Hyuna who had them promise to her they would renew everyone if she did, and yet they didn't, effectively pitting her against her members, when they were one of the groups with the strongest bond in kpop. Also Hyuna and Dawn leaving was clearly not easy peasy, they spent months without having any infos on how their future would go, PNation didn't take them in right away and we definitely saw them at their worst during that time.
As a G.Nie I remember how terribly they handled G.Na's case and how the news of her not renewing was barely promoted, after she herself had been barely promoted for years.
Hong Seungseong was godsent, and debuted some of the best talent the industry has to this day but the moment he stepped down as chairman, everything went wrong. I'm blaming that blue square board for ruining what could have been one of the big3 contenders.

They don't do proper research or have any vision for what concept or style will sell or fit for the group, they just put them out there and hope they'll miraculously succeed and if they don't (also because of cube's horribly bad management and lack of promo and understanding of what concepts work best) they push the group aside for the more successful ones and then debut yet another group. Repeats over and over.
Other companies have managed to put their groups out there and make them successful because they focused on them and their concept, they had a vision from the start of what kind of group and sound they wanted to create, pushing the promotions and giving steady comebacks.

I agree that CUBE has amazing talent scouts and training but does poorly in managing their artistes when shit happens. What’s good about CUBE is that I believe they give their artistes more creative freedom compare with other companies, as in their artistes are self-producing artistes. Having said that, if the artistes wanna survive in CUBE, they need to be able to self-produce
Now that I’m a Universe, I’m afraid of Pentagon’s future. My theory (I could be wrong since I’m new to the fandom), is that Pentagon was at risk of disbanding back in 2018-2019. At that time, they have yet to receive a music show win and the unfair backlash from Dawn and Hyuna affected the group. With the group members having strong bond with each other, I can’t imagine the crap they went through. I also believe their album sales were affected.
Which was why I suspect they joined RTK under the cloud of disbandment. I seriously think that they would not have joined RTK in the midst of Jinho enlisting unless their hands are tied. You can feel their desperation in RTK.
WIth all these happening, the members’ emotional reactions when they won music shows (especially the first one), makes so much more sense now.
I’m happy to see Pentagon still going strong today and their fan base growing. No matter which company they are gonna be in future, I will still support them for their awesome music. Their self-produced music and the members kept me going during my dark days

Well, I have asked this to the older unis, like really old, they conclude, nope. They're not in the midst of disbanding. Why, because in 18-19, they keep releasing 2 albums/yr, and even went to the world tour as planned. Actually, cu/be as you and other may think, don't really care anymore abt dwn leaving due to betrayal they felt, Hui becomes much much more important. So, new albums it is. Show goes on. Going to RTK too, you can see it just another marketing move, and why not? Why not also the desperation? They still need to get their name out there.
The reaction of their first winning is not out of ordinary, every groups that never won will be like that too. Especially we know that ptg is a very emotional group. And why they kinda have a vibe that any album at that time is their final chance or something like that, is due to sokor competitive culture and especially idol in idol world, not within the agency itself. Every moment seems like last chance for them, so they are working hard.

I need to clarify something about 4minute's disbandment. People seem to be under the false impression that the other members just didn't sign contracts, and the group disbanded. That's not what happened. According to the members, they found out on the news that they were being disbanded by the company. Cube had leaked the news to media, and then tried to pretend they knew nothing about it and were trying to find out what was happening with the members. Even if the two members besides hyuna that had been offered contracts from Cube had signed, it wouldn't have been as a 4minute member, it would have been a solo contract.
I also want to point out for newer fans how much the disbandment of 4minute affected Cube. It affected stocks. 4minute did sell really well. There was also a lot of personnel turnover as a lot of 4minute's staff left with them. Their main stylist left, and she still styles most of the members today. 4minute's bodyguards also left, with their main bodyguard becoming Jiyoon's bodyguard. There was so much staff that was gone that Pentagon's debut had to be postponed. I'm not sure if Cube still does this, but before, they used to have managers, makeup staff etc work on all of their groups. They'd kind of rotate out. Work for one group for a while, and then work on another. Cube wasn't thinking about how much disbanding 4minute would cost them in terms of staff. Beast also leaving had an impact on this as some of the staff went with Beast as well.

Then, the week before her comeback, they announce that the other 4 hadn't renewed (because they were never offered contracts). Then they threw Hyuna to the wolves for media interviews, ostensibly for her comeback but where in reality she was grilled about the other girls. true that other companies have made mistakes too but the way they handled scandals and the aftermath of their mistakes were much more professional and in favor for their artists. it's the reason why the big 3 are still big 3 and cube dropped like a stone. cube went from seen as one of the best companies rivaling the big 3 to being one of the most controversial and hated ones. too many incompetent decisions, ceo changes and change of owners destroyed the stable foundation that company has had at the early years.
maybe some changes for the better have been made lately but as said in the video, this is the company with most and highest ups and downs, it can go well for a while before the next scandal appears on the radar again and cube shows another dose of their bad decisionmaking and management. and mind you that company is still doing barely ok because the remaining idols themselves carry it heavily on their backs.
also buying albums to support a group will lead to good things for them is logical right? not really in cube's case it seems. high album sales didn't stop cube from kicking out hyuna and soojin. idols from other companies got scandal accusations but handled it much better without big consequences for the artists. doesn't matter how well a group sells if the company management is not doing well. i see all idols and groups are at risk as long as they are in cube.

When he was still the CEO, Cube was considered the 4th biggest entertainment company. He really cared for his artists and was considered one of the best CEO at the time. Like CEO Bang was for BigHit. 2nd Hyuna didn't stay because she had a solo career. the other members did not sign because they were not offered one. Cube only wanted Hyuna and basically threw the other members out. Hyuna had a hard time after she signed again because she was made the villain but the truth was that 4minute wanted to keep promoting as a group but cube cut them out. 3rd BEAST was Cube's biggest artist until the day their contract expired. Cube would have gone bankrupt years ago without them. BEAST may be nugu to the newer fans but BEAST was one of the biggest domestically. Bigger than Shinee even. 4th Jung ilhoon appealed his sentence. Imagine people out there thinking Ilhoon is in prison for 2 years after seeing this. These information are important! they fucked up eunbin's addition to clc (she was apparently always being considered to join clc but was too young in 2015) but them releasing promotion images for refresh when its clear that eunbin is the tall girl in the center made people stop voting for her on pd101 dropping her from top 10 she was originally in to being eliminated. also cube never officially confirmed eunbin was in clc, sorn had to do it on her facebook page...
high heels did well domestically but it was one of the hardest songs for the girls because it was one of the cutest concepts which they never trained for and also the choreo with the high heels lead to them being injured a lot. no oh oh also did well and it was the first comeback with eunbin properly featured. clc also went to japan and immediately topped oricon and tower records but cube never sent them back despite 3 members being fluent in japanese. also cube sent seunghee to a singing competition while clc was promoting in japan which meant seunghee was flying back and forth between korea and japan which exhausted her and wrecked her throat making singing hard. if you look at fansites from then you see seunghee arriving in korea from japan, immediately going to film the competition show, then hopping on a plane once recording was done. she did this for weeks.
and then hobgoblin was when the girls had enough and sorn spearheaded the campaign for them to fight for a girl crush concept like they had trained for. sorn got hyuna's support and the girls all submitted their ideas for the concept which sorn presented in a powerpoint to cube. the company wanted clc members to lose weight but hyuna argued that the stylists should instead choose clothes that fit the girls properly (if you see pre-hogoblin stages they rarely dressed seunghee or sorn right and their clothes often fit wrong) clc fought for hobgoblin and they were right it was a smash hit and they debuted on billboard top 10 and from 2017-2020 they didn't have a year out of the top 10.

But just imagine, you lose the most popular member of your group to them dating another idol and your whole group loses a bunch of popularity to it and then they just break up. CUBE ENTERTAINMENT :
Our artists can have freedom but when tough times come, we will not defend them, we will not dig into the situation and we will not find out the truth. To PROTECT our company, we will remove those same artists that helped to BUILD our company instead of treating them right and defending them because we have no idea that our lack of good management for our idols ruins our reputation more than whatever our artists actually do.
They might as well paste this on a banner and put it in front of their company building. I don't blame them though, I blame the aspiring idols and trainees that keep auditioning for cube when they should do their research more than anyone else. They should know that Cube might offer them a good starting foundation due to the great artists before them but they will not ensure you safety, security or good management. Your time in cube will be a beautiful prison because your freedom is a disguise.

My thoughts on Lightsum are this:
They were pushed out early to distract from Soojin and the CLC controversies.
They were promoted well enough, but CUBE hasn't give the members a chance to show the public their personalties via specials or variety shows... which would gain them a fan base.
They debuted during Covid fear, so opportunities were hard to come by their first year.
They debuted around the same time as power house rookie groups like aespa and Purple Kiss were born, both who had pre-debut hype going in. Later in the year bugAboo and IVE followed, and we all know what happened there. Lightsum sort of got drowned.
Lastly, their sound is generic with nothing to set them a part for other groups doing cute concepts.
Now, all of this ISN'T their fault, but poor management. It's like Lightsum got CLC's bumbling team. Look at all the success stories of CUBE, they all have self-producers. People who are force things along and get things done. CLC didn't have this until late in their career (in Sorn) when it was too late. Lightsum, so far, doesn't seem to have that one person to lead the way. If we're following history, CUBE will lose interest and just let Lightsum fade into obscurity unless they stumble onto a hit. Again, in any normal company, Lightsum would have a supportive team who is constantly trying to find ways to push the girls out there. But CUBE doesn't work like that. If you want to succeed there, you have to do things yourself because management is too lazy. I believe Lightsum has all the talent in the world to be big. But so did CLC.
