Those high boys with stock steeliest are so wicked looking. And most people don’t know how well the slender tall tires get around in the snow. They are awesome.
I always leave my antique vehicles stock, including rims and tires. Car manufacturers spend million of dollars in R&D setting up the vehicle properly so I figure they knew what they were doing when they developed it. Bearings, brakes, transmission, engine, suspension, etc. was developed to work with certain size components. Making any backyard changes can impact a lot more than most people realize. However if a person owns a truck, it’s their business what they do with it. Some modifications may make sense based on their useage and location. But I am with you, this truck looks awesome and handles great with the stock wheels.
@@Robrt32 yea, I like to go for function and I like the looks of the stock ones. You ever drove a 4x4 with stock wheels in deep snow? 100% better traction and steering capability.
Old timer tip passed down, drain the coolent and oil,and bring the battery inside where it's warm after you drive, starts real nice when it's cold in the morning 🍻 wait till coolent cools before draining
Man i love living out west, seen a handful of these within the last year all under $3500 and in pretty nice shape. The barn finds are a sight to behold.
We had one on the Dairy Farm in Arkansas in deep ford blue back in 70’s it was my favorite Of all the trucks we had I was to young to drive it but I could work with the tractors cutting and raking hay and baling it. Think I would love Alaska if I ever get a chance to go and see the country side I’d be thrilled especially winter we don’t get much winter in north Texas anymore
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, that truck is rad all of the trucks from that era were tuff but those highboys were the top dog for sure Thanks for sharing.
Yeah Brother, You have the 'old reliable' running as smooth as silk! Yeah, if they could only make them like that again just one more time I would be FIRST in line at the dealer! Thanks for the comforting video to go along with my morning coffee!!
That truck is exactly what I’m always looking for…Hard to find and when you do, ya can’t afford it. That truck is a tank, just point and go…Thanks, like to see more on the high boy.
Take a drive through the american west someday, the kinds of vehicles youll see for sale are wild and they store well in the deserts. Reasonably priced too. I missed out on a few older fords all going for less than $5k
Nice truck !!! Gotta say I’m jealous !! I appreciate that you take interest things from the past and are doing something cool with them. Tell some stories of your folks or grandparents and maybe how you got to where are now . Maybe you did already and missed i it , but thumbs up all the same !!👍 😁👌
Back when trucks were trucks. My grandfather and my uncles had an F-250 of this era. The thing was like a tank, lock in the 4x4 and it would go through anything. Manual hubs, manual shift and manual steering. Imagine if kids had to learn how to drive on one of these trucks. Eventually, they ended up putting a different cab on it and a dump box on the back. They used it on their farm, a lot.
Looks like a good ol truck. I also have a 71. Mine is a 71 F100 4x4 shortbox. Im thinkin about posting a couple vids up on utube of it. I have one now of me doing some work to it. Bolting the rocker assembly down after changing some valve springs. Not sure how to upload the video yet though. Lol
They remind me a lot of the 60-6 GMC/Chevrolet 3/4 ton 4x4s.Those 67-72 Fords F-250s have always been in my eyes are sharp looking truck, and the Ford has a nice sounding engine, great truck.
Love the channel! I have a 72 highboy with a completely bagged out junkyard 302 from a 74 Maverick. 35” tires on stock springs. I picked up a 351w out of a 84 e350 motorhome, so should have a bit more than the ole garbage 302!! Kinda wished it still had the original 360 4 speed.. its red-ish/rust orange patina.. what you would expect in southern Alberta, Canada.
BYA, that sure is a sweet running high boy! What brand are those tires? They remind me of the old Firestone Town and Country that I haven't seen for more than forty years. Thanks for the Brrrry cool video!
Sure reminds me of driving Dad's 67 F100 4x4 back in high school. It was new, then. Poor old green is sitting to the side of my house now waiting for an engine. Not sure if I want to go through the 390 that Dad swapped in after the first 352 crapped out at 280k miles, find another 352, or go with 351W, or maybe 460/auto with a divorced NP205 sitting here. Better get it done, I suppose, I'm 70 years old, and working on the ground through another Idaho winter ain't very appealing....
@powerwagon3731 If I was to go 351 or 460, I'd also go with C6 that both running engines have attached, and a divorced NP205 that I pulled from a 78 F350 years ago. Helps to have a Bud who owns a driveline service shop. Still not inexpensive, but easier than sourcing adapters.
Hope you can find the means to get it fixed. Make you proud to drive that around. I know what you mean by age slowing you down. Don’t let the old man in. Im 74, have aches and pains and some worn out body parts but I try to keep moving.
Those trucks were a mans truck. No ac no power steering no radio straight shift with no frills. If you find one here in Ga in good shape it will cost you upwards of 20 to 25,000 dollars. I had a 1977 and like the young fool I was got rid of it for something else. Now I can't find another one and even if I could I can't afford it now...
That is such a cool old truck. I have a 69 F100 2wd. And I’m picking up a 68 Highboy this weekend. Can’t wait. Is your truck lifted at all or is that stock? Also what recommendations do you have on some tall skinny tires like yours ? I’m not certain but I think this highboy has stock wheels.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me some wide chrome or aluminum wheels with 33/50/15 would be sooooooooo much better looking.
@Robrt32 yeah. Wide tires and big wheels for the WIN.

@@Robrt32 Wide tires are for flotation only they offer terrible traction in snow and ice! The lower psi is the culprit.

Love them ol high boys I have a 67 that I have had since high school
I am jealous. That truck would be $15-20K in Maine. Such a sweet ride!
Even the 90's early 2000's 250 are getting up there here in Maine

Sliding through the snow on bias plies we go😂😂
Beats being stuck at home on wideys.
Love seeing so much Alaskan white powder!
I love this truck
Nothing like dashing through the snow in an old Ford hi boy !!!!😁
Looks great, love the snow tires!
Couldn’t agree more. I would like a set of those wheels/tires on my ‘64 Ford 4wd step side. Think I will go shopping.
Such a cool old truck!
Good truck and good tag along video. Thanks.
I can watch this stuff all day! Love hearing that motor and the gear shifts. I need another old Ford.

Awesome, thanks for taking us for a ride along. Sweet old truck you have there. ❤
Grew up with them F250s highboys on the farm, they were absolutely tanks.
👍👍 I love those old trucks
Love this truck, Runs like a dream, drives like a dream, its a dream! Good Job on fixing it to be this way!

The highboy is cool as hell. They definitely dont make them like that anymore.
Great old truck I had a 1975
Highboy best dam truck I ever owned. It's Spent It Last four years I Own it as a hunting rig here in Alaska .

Thanks for the snow ride along. Want to mention thoughts and prayers for al those affected by the Wrangell landslide
Very nice! Looks like you can still buy new a windshield for a 1971 for $150 - $200
Maybe more in Alaska..

My Grandpa had one the same color. I got fond childhood memories riding with him on the farm. I’d love to get my hands on one.
good video - the cool HighBoy always starts up - and sounds awesome !
Ford built a great product. Glad you put the good wrench to it.
I had a dark blue 74 hiboy. Put a rebuilt 390 with headers in it. Great fun and memories.
Love the idle sound
I could sit there all day or at least until I got cold and listen to it

and bias plies 😂
Nice little drive in the old truck 👏
I was stationed in Fairbanks from 79 to 81. I miss Alaska. The truck sound great.

So rad!
Man we have twins! My truck is nearly identical, down to some dents!!
Old girl sounds good. No computer, no power anything, just a good old truck doing truck things.
Its a beuty! 😍
Nice old ford! very impressive cold start.
Best part of driving these trucks is that transmission howl. Nice video.
I love that truck. Great Video. myMDad had a 1976 f250 Ranger high boy w/ 390 . I wish i could find a decent one where i live.

I see you got all the options including the road map windshield lol

Very cool.
Man I love those ole school fords especially the ones with the divorce transfer case👍🏿hey did you fix the rear end in the blue ford
I have always been a bump side fan

Stick with the 390. I did a 390 to 460 swap in the eighties and finding a bell housing was very difficult.

What a Kool old rig love it as is perfect with the super Traction tires are they 750/16's
Back when trucks did not cost as much as a house and you could still fix them in an afternoon with readily available parts.
You need to get a classic truck camper!
What no rallying this truck?
Seriously you've done good with the old '71
What motor is in that truck?
A 360 FE

All it needs is a decent windshield

7.50 x 16
