If I can get a title for it I'll leave it together. Otherwise I will pass it along or part it out after taking the IDI if I can't get it legal. Just how it goes! Can't save them all.
@HartsFordRanch That's unfortunate you have title issues. Here in Maine, we're title free on vehicles 25 years old and older. Your truck would be highly coveted as this is a rustbelt state. The 7.3idi would be a great swap project. I have 1st dibs on a full-size Ford Ltd, and I have a buddy with a spare 7.3idi powertrain. I've been thinking about making a diesel car with that combination
@@mainebigfoothunter7088 My dream IDI for-fun build is a 76-79 Lincoln Continental Towncar 4 door, although I think I would go with a ZF5 manual just because I do not like the E4od, and it wouldn't be as enjoyable with a C6 to me. However, I need to get my F350 finished before I worry about that kind of adventure.
Keep posting man, I'll be watching them! And check your vacuum pump before putting a new booster in, I replaced my booster and still had a very hard pedal. Turned out to be the vacuum pump.
I had the same issue. Also had a bad vacuum line. I tested everything with one of those cheap vacuum brake line bleeders before buying parts. I manually pulled a vacuum using the hand pump and the booster seemed to work well and hold a vacuum which pointed me at the lines and pump which both had issues.
I am uploading an update video pretty quick, just a heads up I probably won't be making a lot of content immediately, I have a bunch of important work and obligations to finish up first, then I'll slowly start tackling my projects again. :) Thanks for the comment!
I don’t have a CLUE why this was recommended but I love it. I got an 88 crown Vic and fell in love with the boxy 80s style. Would love a truck like that
I had a 1990 IDI diesel and I had the heads redone and a new mechanical fuel pump installed. I still miss that truck. No need to part that out just figure out why it's smoking and fix it. Too nice to just part out. Got you home without an issue.....
Diesels don't create a vacuum. If your vacuum pump isn't creating a vacuum then your booster won't work. GM's have a different system with PS fluid. Cool truck!!
Yep, XL package back then offered you the Chrome the AC the cruise the wood grain without the power windows power locks you could also get fabric seats captain's chair etc basically you could special order them ala carte, XLT lariat had all of the options. Regardless.
Thankfully I bought a timing meter for these engines so I can accurately dial them in. I don't recall the brand, it was about $250 on Ebay, but they came highly rated. Thanks for the suggestion.
@HartsFordRanch I've never done timing on them before, but the other truck that I had with the 7.3 IDI there was a thing on the side of the fuel pump there was a lever that was controlled by accelerator position which pushed a pin in at the bottom that would retard the timing as you push the pedal down so it would advance when you are idling and as you pushed into acceleration the cam would push the lever and the pin at the bottom of the pump would push in retarding the timing, this pin could be stuck in on your fuel control.
@HartsFordRanch I've seen those tools before something hooks up to one of the injectors and you can monitor the timing as you turn the injection pump, I've seen it done but I've never had to do it. I know it's a small adjustment and when it's off it causes all kinds of starting problems and smoking as well as skipping or if it's way off no start at all. Yours might only be off a little bit.
@HartsFordRanch the last thing I'm sure you might have read up on it already is there is a cold start advance solenoid and a high idle solenoid that get powered when the engine is under a certain temperature and as it warms up they kick out if those aren't functioning you can get a lot of smoking and skipping when the engine is cold.
@@sabbath7081 yes, I only have one truck I think the cold idle advance actually works on, and it's the same, only truck that has a working high idle solenoid! My 93 f350 cab and chassis. I know you check timing at 2000 rpm, which thankfully the timing meter has a tachometer built in, because mine doesn't work. Also that you can-not adjust the injection pump while it's running. I don't know why, but you have to halt the motor, adjust, fire it up and check timing.
Vin # will tell your package exactly if ya decode it- but while it looks like an XL to me, it's sweet that it's 4x4 most of em I see around where I'm at are 2 wheel drive, it's almost like you have an XL with some xlt options that someone ordered
Thank you all for the suggestions. At first I was going to skip over the part where I said I don't know what package it is, since I failed to see (or remember) that Bullnose trucks have the package plastered right there on the center of the dash! I thought it was funny so I left it. I will definitely try some of the suggestions as to making it smoke less. And it will stay together "if" I can get a title for it. Otherwise I can certainly use a healthy engine in my 1994 F350. Merry Christmas everyone!
I would drive that thing with pride if I got it running well with no mechanic experience. Would be a good reason to learn and to drive a big truck around without feeling too self conscious about the emissions, where it would lead me down the path of trying to maximize the fuel economy of it so I can feel better about riding it around.
I have some cash stored up if you want to sell it. I'm not far from your area. My grandfather had a truck just like this. When he passed away and I was only 14 ,my uncle swooped in and took it. I'm 46 now and still think about that truck. The asshole uncle is dead now and my grandfather's truck just disappeared.
They were 34/10.5r16, which is an odd ball for sure. My friend just threw them on the truck so he could move it around his place, and because it was the only 4x4 he had at the time for it. He left them on the truck so I could drive it home, and I swapped them out for some worn out mismatches I had at home.
@ I’ve got an 85 f250 4x4 4spd 300 that I swapped a king pin 86 Dana 60 under and I’m wanting a tall skinny tire for it. Those gave that truck an awful good look
As he said, he has the air filter and pre filter in it, plus he didn't flood it with starting fluid, just enough to get it to lite. There were old semis back in the day that had factory ether injection systems. It's not dangerous if you know how to use it.
@@farfromperfect4643”injection” is the key word there. Diesels are high compression engines. Spraying ether into the intake is inducing pre-detonation. Injecting it at the right time does not. You can do whatever you want to your own property, but other people watching this should not follow this advice.
I'm in Oregon. We use a saline solution on the roads now (started a few years ago) but we don't have road salt, so most of our vehicles are in really good shape UNLESS they sit in the shade for several years. Then the moisture starts to rot things out.
I had a 83 6.9 2 wd stick it was the by far the most unreliable pos I ever owned it officially made a gm owner for life your brake problem could be the vacuum pump mine ate 2 of them in 130000 miles
That truck is a beauty. Don't tear it apart. It deserves to live. I have oem steelie rims waiting for a truck like that
I agree. That truck deserves to stay together.

Man you're lucky...... I wish someone would give me a diesel truck.
She's a beautiful one 😍 such a gift and if ya ever don't want it, no doubt she will have no trouble having a home, I'd buy it lol
Love the 2 tone blue!
Man don't part it run it like it is! Cool truck bring back memories. 👍
I love that style Ford. My first truck was an 82 F150 4x4. I'd really love to have that one.
Looks like a well optioned xl trim truck with some of the features it has.
Beautiful truck. Respects from Canada

may be worth converting to hydro boost brakes. Like on the super duty diesels 1999 on

What a cool old truck. 😊.
It wont be the brake booster Bud it will be your belt driven vacume pump for sure k" love the old truck

That thing is sick
My 7.3 idi use to smoke like crazy . Few oil changes and some injector cleaner it doesnt smoke at all now
that transmission was known as the C6 selecta shift so yes if you put it in second it will stay in second and start in second
I’m pretty sure it’s an XL since the dash says XL. 😊
lol yea

SEAFORM TO THE RESCUE 😊
that's a good idea, I have had awesome success with it in my small engines/lawn mower, I'll give it a go when I fire up the truck next. Thank ya.
i'd buy that in a second!
You'd be an idiot if you took it apart. It's too nice
Keep the truck
The combustion is very quiet on that cold start I guarantee you need to advance your timing

As you were saying that and I could see the XL right on the the dash I had a good chuckle. Enjoyed the video!

Fist thing I saw. lol
Man id just fix that truck and drive it
I wouldn’t tear it apart. Just leave it and drive it lol
Sweet rig. Hope u can sort that rank exhaust tho
How the heck do you get given a gorgeous truck like that!? I need better friends man..
I want that truck
The starting aid I take in intake cap off n put minamul in
I wish I could have a truck Exactly like that given to me
Please make more videos 🔥

ive been looking around for anther bullnose IDI i need one so bad but my budget is around 2k-3k
Nevermind im looking for a 300 i6
Honestly I would not pull the engine out. Let that baby live.
Put a half gallon of transmission fluid in the fuel. I should clean it right up.
Did you watch the video?
Fogging out the Kubota lol
How much for the whole body??
where are you at in oregon
Why exactly are you having to run it in 4x4??????
I cut the video short, but I drove it around off the gravel and my yard is steep and it's very slick when wet.
Why would you part it?
What size are the tires? I’m assuming super swamper?
