bridge11233ify that's awesome! Btw the bass clarinet part for this piece is extremely difficult. The bass clarinetist who sits next to me in concert band was driven crazy by this piece lol. Bassoon part aint a walk in the park either tbh
I am playing this now and I am in HS. I am a trumpet and everyone thinks that the 1st trumpets (I play trumpet) always get the best and most important parts. People should really give the 3rd and 2nd trumpets some credit too. We have just as an important role as the rest of the section and band.
The Larghetto in this piece is probably one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard -- Sparkling with life, but with a small voice of depression and sadness.
Did that contrabass clarinet part give anybody else chills? I'm so going to have to take a few things down an octave on my bass clarinet, especially those 16th notes with the flutes. (;
Amir King I played contra on this. A lot of stuff I took down an octave (below the tubas, even) for depth. I was honking that thing--The conductor loved it! BAHAHA
This is such an awsome song. I always wondered how the woodwinds could do runs like that. I play the trumpet and in this song I finally know. I didn't think my fingers could move that fast. I love this song.
I love playing this oboe solo so much. I felt like the upper brass was overpowering at the end though. The bass line is so important to that part and even the woodwinds got buried under the wall of sound from the upper brass.
Truly the most challenging piece I've met on bass clarinet thus far. What a fun piece. Mastering the vivace was quite a task, but I think I've finally got it. But this band... it sounds like they're using a contra-bass clarinet. GO BASS CLARINETS!
i'm absolutely in love with the 16th note runs on horn. The rest of the piece is pretty easy. We sight read it a few days ago and are working on it for our spring concert in June. :D
oh, in the second movement? yeah its great, once you get the hang of it. so much better than our typical upbeats... i love the allegro con brio movement into the sostenuto and then con islancio. epic chords.
Sixteenth notes were hard for me on that... But i managed to stay ahead of the flutes by one note... but that changed and my teacher told me to slow a little and the flutes and I were in sync. It was fun... now.. AWESOME!! "Lets do that again!"
NovaInc. When I played this in my freshman year, the clarinets looked at all the high notes in the beginning and were like "Aw HELL no." We still ended up nailing it XD
The dislikes are from the people who are jealous they can't play that good (Im kidding no hate) This mustve been really hard to play and practice, I give them credit for the effort :D
My band played this at clinic a few months ago and miraculously got 1's. I love the sixteenth note runs before the Vivace. They can be irritating to nail at first on flute, but after you get your fingers moving its pretty fun. Good luck to any who want to play this piece. A word of advice Woodwinds, try some chromatic runs or pentatonic scales in warming-up before playing Variations. Also, dynamics are huge in this song so work on air control and breathing deeply from your diaphragm. GL
Horn part is the same way... hold the Bb side and use alternate fingerings like there's no tomorrow. It's a simple piece with enough practice. And raw talent :)
Learned this for 2nd percussion parts it was a little hard getting in the triangle, sus symbol and gong, man this is a fun gong part out of all thats what i got to say
Okay I play the clarinet and I can completely understand where they are coming from. I mean it is super fast and the fingerings are next to impossible. I would like to know what instrument you play. You cannot say that it's because of lack of practice. Sometimes a part for one instrument is really hard while for another it is a lot simpler.
Playing first clarinet on this piece is not hard, it just takes practice to nail the vivace and allegro con brio sections. Just slow those parts down and gradually speed them up, and you'll have it no problem.
Sounds like fun to play but too bad there are no traditional Korean Folk Instruments used in this piece. It would be more convincing if there even a hint of a Korean Folk sound somewhere (even for a moment or two).
@@offbrandman4453 it depends on your skill level dude. this goes without saying but just because something is easy for you doesn't mean it is for someone else.
When one plays Variations on A Korean Folk Song, one becomes part of an elite society of epic musicians.
I am proud to be a part of that society.
EnderBro34 So I became a member of an elite society of epic musicians in 7th grade?
Wow, nice! I am in highschool, but you sure have a true talent!
EnderBro34 You ain't elite until you've tried Rocky Point Holiday haha
True dat man
my high school symphonic band is playing this piece
The Larghetto movement at 2:37 is the most beautiful music I have heard in my life. Not even kidding.
The biggest change to the Larghetto was me, a Flute, playing both the Oboe Solos, since both our replacements were out, and nobody else knew it well.
I think that this piece would be a nice opener for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics that are being held in Pyeongchang.
tru asf
The oboe solo of the melody upside down is the the best
Holden Collins and super clever on the part of John Barne Chance!
0:00 to the end is my favorite
Understandable
The best part is when you’re in the 2nd Infantry Division Band playing this in Korea and the whole audience starts singing along at the start.
Amazing piece of music. That melody could get stuck in my head for days.
Clarinets forever and ever and ever 😍😍😍
noooo hate the sound of a clarinet
+Riven Hackney I like it when it sounds good
first of all, english horn forever lol
btw i play clarinet though.
bridge11233ify that's awesome! Btw the bass clarinet part for this piece is extremely difficult. The bass clarinetist who sits next to me in concert band was driven crazy by this piece lol. Bassoon part aint a walk in the park either tbh
Clarinet Yes 😍 a lot of people hate us but I dont care lol
Played this in HS in 1980, to this day I still warm up with Variation 1 (oboe)
I am playing this now and I am in HS. I am a trumpet and everyone thinks that the 1st trumpets (I play trumpet) always get the best and most important parts. People should really give the 3rd and 2nd trumpets some credit too. We have just as an important role as the rest of the section and band.
the oboe solo is the reason i’m still alive
Same 😂
John Barnes Chance is freaking awesome
Agreed!
I'm korean
it is touching my heart
hhaaa me too
One of my favorite songs ive done in band honestly
2:37 can be played at my funeral
The Larghetto in this piece is probably one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard -- Sparkling with life, but with a small voice of depression and sadness.
Did that contrabass clarinet part give anybody else chills? I'm so going to have to take a few things down an octave on my bass clarinet, especially those 16th notes with the flutes. (;
Yesss that's what I did :)
Amir King I played contra on this. A lot of stuff I took down an octave (below the tubas, even) for depth. I was honking that thing--The conductor loved it! BAHAHA
Haha awesome!!
Rashaad Calaham YEEESSSSS Contra Clarinets are amazing.
Rashaad Calaham ME TOO it was one of the best experiences of me life playing that instrument
im playing this in band this year and it is such a fun song to play, i love the rapid 16th notes
Variation 2 (at 2:37) is my favorite. It reminds me of Samurai Champloo for some reason
I played a watered down version of this song back in middle school and since then always loved this song.
We're playing this for state evaluations this year!! It's so fun to play
Looking back on this after having played it, I'm personally amazed that my band made it through 5:53 to 6:38 without messing up.
THAT BASS CLARINET TOOK THE VIVAVE AN OCTAVE DOWN. What a man
Its lowkey easier to play it like that
(Can’t believe im commenting on a 12 year old comment)
YES YES YES! I play the bass clarinet in band and we're playing this song
My friend set this in swing and changed it to a Eb blues scale. It was so badass.
Well done!.... Check out the 1986 Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps, we put "Variations" on the football field.
Yes !! The Horns!!!! I'm in love, I smiled the whole time listening to the feud sixteenth note section!
my band is playing this, and i just hope we sound this good for contest. i
I love variation 3! The whole-tone runs in the wwinds always get me!
This reminds me of the 1970's West Point High School Band who performed this on the field during marching season. ALL Superior ratings. GO BIG GREEN!!
This is such an awsome song. I always wondered how the woodwinds could do runs like that. I play the trumpet and in this song I finally know. I didn't think my fingers could move that fast. I love this song.
I had to play this song for a high school band concert during junior year.
I played the vibraphone part.
That French Horn...oh my god its just awesome
Playing this piece is so much fun! Playing this on Bass Clarinet is so much fun I love the challenge :)
Very Beautiful Piece... I'm Playing It At 2nd Horn
Oh gawd! I love the bass clarinet! XD
Playing the trumpet solo at my school's symphonic band. So fun!
I love playing this oboe solo so much. I felt like the upper brass was overpowering at the end though. The bass line is so important to that part and even the woodwinds got buried under the wall of sound from the upper brass.
I play oboe and flute but the oboe solo is so much fun
Thanks that will help s lot. I'll pass it on to the others in my section. :) :)
Euphoniumssss!!!! -333
bassoon is love, bassoon is life
I WISH I KNEW HOW TO PLAAAY
I play bassoon;)
PurpleOfTheRose I'm a bassoon major in college and one of our ensembles played this for our last concert!
i can't stop listening to this
This reminds me when the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps performed this on the field and the guard was wickedly precise.
うまいなぁ、さすがです、、、!
Truly the most challenging piece I've met on bass clarinet thus far. What a fun piece. Mastering the vivace was quite a task, but I think I've finally got it. But this band... it sounds like they're using a contra-bass clarinet. GO BASS CLARINETS!
we played the baby version of this (like 3 lines long) back in 7th grade. :)
one of my favorites
i'm absolutely in love with the 16th note runs on horn. The rest of the piece is pretty easy. We sight read it a few days ago and are working on it for our spring concert in June. :D
How'd your percussionists do with the sight reading? I know the timpani in variations 3 and 4 can cause confusion.
I love this piece so much. I play Bb clarinet and bass clarinet. So Mich love and respect foe this piece
I would love this piece, but I have to play the 1st trumpet part for this and it is absolutely insane. Especially variation 1
We've only gotten through the first page and it's difficult in some parts, but I can't wait till we get to the second page
I love this song ;DD The advanced band at my school is playing this
2:49 is what you came for
oh, in the second movement? yeah its great, once you get the hang of it. so much better than our typical upbeats... i love the allegro con brio movement into the sostenuto and then con islancio. epic chords.
I've never gotten one solo on my Bass clarinet... I feel sad... every instrument in the band has except me...
Sixteenth notes were hard for me on that... But i managed to stay ahead of the flutes by one note... but that changed and my teacher told me to slow a little and the flutes and I were in sync. It was fun... now.. AWESOME!!
"Lets do that again!"
Just played this 9th grade concert contest and nailed it
NovaInc. When I played this in my freshman year, the clarinets looked at all the high notes in the beginning and were like "Aw HELL no." We still ended up nailing it XD
Horn is life TBH
I play bari sax. Have a BARI merry Christmas
Bari rocks :)
I will Bari you if you tell that joke again...
Jefé Boehl Come on. That one was unBarible.
MmmBrowneisMmm LMAO.
KangarooRider GO HOME.
you rock then :D I had to switch to alto when I moved schools this year, but I miss my bari sooooo much. at least I'm still playing sax though.
Euphonium :3
I'm playing the piccolo for this piece and I'm quite worried for the high notes D:
FLUTES On the last page of Korean with the g flat trill in the key of c does it trill to g natural or a flat!!!!
Bass Clarinet is so god damn amazing.
That is all.
5:15 to the end is my favorite
I demand an apology letter for all clarinets and those who sit around them
The dislikes are from the people who are jealous they can't play that good
(Im kidding no hate)
This mustve been really hard to play and practice, I give them credit for the effort :D
Aw I played this in high school :D
My band played this at clinic a few months ago and miraculously got 1's. I love the sixteenth note runs before the Vivace. I’m in 7th and we’re about to start playing this. I play saxophone and honestly I’m scared
Vibes
Low woodwinds at 3:07. That's as good as it gets!
Playing this thursday on flute. The sixteenth notes r pretty hard :p
My band is currently playing this piece, I am a French horn
Loved it all except the French horn entrance in the beginning, other than that it was well done. I remember playing this in 8th grade :)
My marching band played this
pretty
hahaha renata I see you
HOW CAN THEY PLAY THE VIVACE PART SO FAST? Dying. Just dying. The notes on clarinet are impossible. Bye. I'm going to practice. Forever.
My middle school is playing this. Its kinda hard without practice
Okay I play the clarinet and I can completely understand where they are coming from. I mean it is super fast and the fingerings are next to impossible. I would like to know what instrument you play. You cannot say that it's because of lack of practice. Sometimes a part for one instrument is really hard while for another it is a lot simpler.
hated playing those 16th notes on bari sax.
Legit! 16th notes = finger pretzels!
Thats a b flat clarinet playing in the beginning if thats what your referring to.
4:23 nah but this part goes crazy
yes
Playing first clarinet on this piece is not hard, it just takes practice to nail the vivace and allegro con brio sections. Just slow those parts down and gradually speed them up, and you'll have it no problem.
1:42-2:01
Trumpets!
I wish they had gone a little slower. It feels like they're treating it as an exercise to see how fast they can play.
Video game Legend of Kage NES
Yes that is a B- Flat Clarinet, but that doesn't mean that Bass Clarinet isn't awesome...... cause it rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clarinets >:)
Clarinets for the win >:^D
Sounds like fun to play but too bad there are no traditional Korean Folk Instruments used in this piece. It would be more convincing if there even a hint of a Korean Folk sound somewhere (even for a moment or two).
Playing timpani for this wish me luck not used to playing. Four timpanis
What variations is the one at the end where the snare starts it off
+Bilbo Baggins the last one or i think the 5th
Nice! Me too :)
I play tuba and everything is easy except for the 16th note runs.
I’m supposed to go from 2,3 to 1, but I keep on accidentally playing 2,3 to 1,2.
This piece is a very easy tuba pice, probably the easiest I've played in high school
@@offbrandman4453 it depends on your skill level dude. this goes without saying but just because something is easy for you doesn't mean it is for someone else.
2:48 What yall came for.
5:54
0:00-1:40. Best Part of Variations on A Korean Folk Song.
I'd have to say it would have to be at 5:52, well that's probably just cuz I'm a percussionist
+Bilbo Baggins I personally like 4:28 because I just like playing that on my trumpet.
+Edgar Espino Same!!
+kyle lane I loved that part too because of the trill part thing of the picc.
Percussion family for life!
