James Barnes: What should I call my latest composition? Symphomic Themes of Paganini? Fantasy on Nicholo Paganini? Theme and Variations on Paganini? Publisher: *hits blunt* Publisher: What if we used _ALL_ of those titles? Barnes: There's no way they'd let me publish such a stupidly titled piece.
Chills everywhere during the Saxophone variation. Still get them as much today as I did back when my sax section nailed that section at a National Competition. Such an amazing piece
My College Band Director programmed this on his retirement concert, and it was fantastic. He knew what kind of band he had, and he wasn't afraid to show it off a little. We closed with the Finale from Maslanka's Second Symphony.
Just played this in Wind Symphony at our All State. At first i thought this song was a little out of our league, but over the course of two days we were able to knock it out of the park.
I’m first chair tuba and i was playing the top part at Var V but i got switched to the bottom because the other tuba couldn’t hit the low E. Most air i’ve used in my life
@DannySpandi123 Yep 2 weeks, little more then. So A Weekend in New York is my favorite so far... But I only can play half of it :D And Ill see ya then.
this is pissing me off beyond all measure, i cant tell variation 9 how fast to play alll of the sudden im on variation 10 without having not a clue how i got there FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU is this a different version than the allstates this year? im tuba btw somebody help?
why didnt I think of this sooner... lol Hi. My name is Michael and I play Bari Sax. Im in the MMEA All State Symphonic Band... btw Im not white. or asain. :D
This is stupid. I can't reply. anyways, I play Baritone Sax. So you can and should look for me. I will probably introduce myself personally to everyone ;)
I really want to play it. I really want to play the 1st oboe or sax part. Although I have a great band in high school, we sadly don't have the instrumentation for it as we have a 19 person band.
Hahahaha y'all all sounded like ass tho. This is the only good recording without one variation being seriously atrocious. Y'all r like middle schoolers flexing they can play grade 4's, ye u can but not well

I agree with Marcus.
Bass clarinet, the bomb! But the whole band is awesome!!

This video is 13 years old and the music way older but still a complete banger
At 1:35 the trombone section died laughing when we heard this play over the speakers in our band hall.

We're playing this as part of our MMEA All-State concert this year, can't wait!!!!
God I'd love to play Xylophone on this piece...
Phenomenal song, one of Paganini's best
Eric Hamm The theme was Paganini, the actual variations were created by James Barnes.
but it is flipping confusing
Paganini didn't write this, some of these instruments weren't even around when he was alive
@@jakgff5885 I mean he died the hear the saxophone was made so close
I played this 10 years ago. It´s on of the best songs i ever played!
Awesome piece!! My favorite parts have to be the horns at 7:21, and the slow part at 8:23, especially when the clarinets come in under the oboe solo.
Those clarinets sound so sexy!
@@ccczeldamain they really do!

I’m first chair tuba and i was playing the top part at Var V but i got switched to the bottom because the other tuba couldn’t hit the low E. Most air i’ve used in my life
Can you please give some tips on hitting the high notes in the Piu Vivo bar towards the end of the song?

Sam Sam Schorer So did mine, I played the contra solo lol
I played it my senior year of high school in the WV All-State Band in 1995!! I'm so old!!! The 1st horn part so fun to play!!
I really want to play it. I really want to play the 1st oboe or sax part. Although I have a great band in high school, we sadly don't have the instrumentation for it as we have a 19 person band.
