@@Kastrenzo74 Dominik Hasek played for part of one year (before injury at the Olympics) at the end of his career. I think getting a recent Vezina winner in his prime is better. Though in terms of career achievements, no question Hasek is the best.
Hasek would like a word with you, and Craig Anderson as well (20 year career and 5th all time in wins by an American goalie. Andy was a beast), I don't want to put down Ullmark, very happy he's a Sen, but Ottawa has been burned multiple times the past few years in net from Matt Murray (he won two Stanley Cups, before injuries derailed his career), Talbot and now Korpi. Let's not count chickens till puck drop.
@@Wexter0083 I already talked about Hasek in another comment. Craig Anderson is interesting. He was the most accomplished and long-serving goalie the Sens have ever had. He backstopped the team to an Eastern Conference Final and also played through incredibly difficult personal circumstances. I really like him too, and I think it's an interesting discussion. I think Ullmark's ceiling is higher. Anderson never won a Vezina nor ever really contended for one. His career GAA and save percentage is better than Anderson, though admittedly not by that much. The workload for both of them in their best years is fairly comparable. Anything can happen, but I don't think Ullmark is like the other goalies you mentioned. Matt Murray was a rookie when he won the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh. He had never really been a true starting goalie even in that city. Joonas Korpisalo and even Cam Talbot never played at the level of Ullmark's best.
@@BloggerMusicMan small note Anderson was 4th in Vezina voting in 2010 and 2013. And in the top 10 for the Hart in 2010. He was an extremely accomplished goalie who happened to play in the same era as some all-time greats (which makes winning the Vezina hard when you're playing in the same era as Price, Rask, Rennie, Fleury and Lundquist). As for Ullmark we cannot deny he's in a different league compared to other goalies we've had. I just don't want to get excited to just be disappointed. I just don't want us calling him the next coming of Hasek before he even skates a game. Let's give Andy and Hasek this due as the best two goalies Ottawa has ever had and let Ullmark play without the baggage of having to be compared to either of them.
Huge add for Ottawa, who were a solid goalie away from making the next step. This trade becomes bigger for the Senators if they can sign him and Ullmark doesn't go to free agency at the end of next season.
That trade path of the #25 pick is actually quite interesting, because it is Boston's own pick. They traded it to Detroit for Tyler Bertuzzi back in the day. Detroit than traded it to Ottawa in the DeBrincat deal, who now traded it back to Boston. 🤣
hey Steve, just a reminder that the 3 picks in a row was Sweeney’s first draft. as for Ullmark, I completely respected him in Buffalo and loved him as a Bruin, but not the contract. I feel that he’s been slipping recently. his biggest weakness is sliding post to post. his slide is nowhere close to Sway, so I feel as he more lunges and puts himself out of position more then he should…but that’s my 2 cents.
As a bruins fan, I'm ok with trading Ullmark. My problem is the bruins always get bad compensation when they trade players away. Look what we got for Seguin, or even Joe Thornton back in the day. No good, long-term players, or even decent draft picks. Our best trade was trading Kessel to Toronto because, of course, Toronto is the only team we can fleece.
This makes zero sense for Boston. If they're trying to compete for a cup why are they so concerned with acquiring a "first" rounder? They get a fringe 4th liner that hits and fights sometimes, great. They already had 6 guys that can play on the 4th line. and now they're locked into a deal with Korpisalo for FOUR years. Will he play better? I'm sure, but is he Linus Ullmark? Not even close. They traded their best trading piece in the same division for quantity over quality. This feels like trading someone just to trade them. Almost forgot to mention a whopping 1.165 million in cap space gained, get the duck boats ready!
Absolute home run for Ottawa. Korpisalo is average at best IF** he can come back from his horrific play. But as it stands, he is a massive negative asset and I would have asked a first just to get out of the contract (maybe a second with retention). So essentially you traded the cost to get out of the Korpi contract and Kastelic for (one year of) a recent Vezina winner. Home run. Yeah, Boston needed a tandem goalie, but why not a free agent or other trade target over one of the worst playing goalies in the NHL? For Boston, I would have reworked the trade to have the main return be Chychrun, or in this framework, wouldn’t have pulled the trigger without a sweetener (2nd rounder or additional prospect) due to the negative trade value of Korpisalo
Ullmark's NMC was always going to tank the value from the Bruin's perspective. Eliminating half of the NHL as trade partners would more than halve his potential value (something something Pareto principle). Two roleplayers and a late 1st is honestly more than I expected the Bruins would get in return. I wouldn't be surprised to see an extension quickly too.
Love this deal for both teams. Bruins traded away there backup goalie, got a cheaper backup goalie thats signed for 3 years, a pick and player. I know ullmark isnt a backup but for the bruins he is
As a sens fan, I think you’d be crazy to think that this wasn’t a fair, or even a good deal for Ottawa. There’s not a chance in hell they were going to go into next season with Korpi and Forsberg again. They were beyond terrible, and this is a better/ cheaper option than buying him out and getting nothing in return. Yes, Ullmark is on the final year of his deal and will need an extension, but hopefully that will give him that extra motivation. I just hope it doesn’t turn into another scumbag Debrincat situation. 😂
Goalies are the most difficult positional players to predict. Very few have ever changed teams and remained the same level. Edmonton used to trade away goalies and they got better. It could go either way for sure.
Can tell Steve is becoming a dad because when he said "thank you" he signed it. At this point it has integrated into his regular interaction @7:05 Edit: time stamp
Sens win this one. Korpisalo might do well as a backup, but Swayman will be carrying the majority of load in Boston. Kastelic was too inconsistent during the season and saw his TOI diminished in most games. I suspect come next season, unless Boston is looking for a 4th line center, they'll place him on waivers so he can play in the AHL or he'll be a 13th forward.
@@HockeyFan102 Sens have a much better core. Goalie and defensive dman is all they lacked until now. New Ownership, GM, coach goalie…If you put LA in the Atlantic they would never make the playoffs
I see that different. Korpisalo even at 3m is not a good contract. That`s for 4 more years, a guy that failed to be a starter and might not even be a premium backup. For that you get Ullmark, a guy who`s a season away from a venizan, and stellar 93.8 SV% with lower than 2gaa in almost 50 games. Honestly, Korpisalo had 0 value, it was rather a buyout with his numbers. The player is a depth player that`s worth close to nothing and their own 1st. I`m not at all impressed of the return the Bruins got for one of the best available goalies.
Trade doesnt make sense to me from the Boston side. I feel like they couldve gotten more. What is funny is all of the goalies the Leafs fans think theyre getting are all being traded. Who plays goal for the Leafs next year? Woll?
sens need a goalie, they were at the bottom of the league in goaltending. Korpisalo isn't a good goaltender and isn't worth his contract, he won't do well anywhere. Ottawa came way ahead in this trade.
If you are Boston, question is if you think your goaltending is still good enough to make the playoffs (which it clearly is).... and then, do you have a playoff caliber goalie to make a run (which they do). For Ottawa, i don't know. Do they have anyone coming up in the prospect pool that is close? Im assuming if they do they think that player is 1-2 years away from being a reliable backup, and then can take over as a starter in about 3-5? So you look to lock in Ullmark with an extension? I just don't follow Ottawa closely enough to understand how this firs into their plans beyond this upcoming season.
For me this just makes no sense. Bruins have Bussi who has been the best ahl goalie for most of the last two seasons. We just don’t need korpisalo. Honestly would’ve been better off just keeping him until a team gets plagued by injuries and gets desperate
Both teams got what they wanted. Ullmark will dip in Ottawa. Bruins will still have a decent goaltending tandem at a slightly lower cap cost. Plus they had some depth and pick/trade asset for Friday's draft.
@@sachinruparelia It will take a bit more that the Sens tweaking their D-core for Ullmark to put up the numbers he did in Boston. He's definitely a needed upgrade for the Sens.
I like Korpi. When he was on the Jackets he really didn't get much help but every now and then he really stole some games for us. Hope he does well for Boston.
Bruins Fan. I was never under the impression the Bruins were going to make any waves in moving Ullmark. He’s a UFA end of the up coming season. Had he have say 2 years left on his contract they could’ve gotten more. I’m guessing. They got a few players back to fill spots. The got Ullmark money off the books. Gives them that much more freedom to land a Free Agent or 2. As well as resign whoever. Swaymen is the Goalie. As much as I like Ullmark. It’s just time to move forward from him.
Well that explains Woll being extended for too much money too soon....Leafs are in a shitstorm right now, they are not getting better by trading marner... maybe different, but not better.
@cmac3530 the joke is that it is Boston's original pick that they sent to Detroit for Bertuzzi. Nobody seems to mention the fact that it was their pick in this draft.
Nothing wrong with building around a goalie. Great move for the Sens. Wish the Sharks did something like this, I guess our #14 is going to stick with us.
I was pissed when i saw this, not the return i thought Boston would get. I knew detroit had kicked tires, and seeing the underwhelming return, im angry that yzerman wouldnt pay up, and instead let a direct rival improve.
Korpisalo is an underrated goalie because he’s had to deal with HORRIBLE defense for the past few years, I’m really excited to see what he can do in boston
Having watched every minute of every single Sens game last season, I can tell you that Korpisalo is utterly, utterly horrendous. I honestly can’t believe we’ve managed to convince anyone to take him and his dreadful contract. Epic work from Stevie.
Korpisalo is not good. He’s the reason why the sens lost more then they won. He lets a bad goal in EVERY GAME, literal floaters… and sens defence really wasn’t that bad, wasn’t good but certainly wasn’t horrendous by any means.
@@neilsunstrum933 yes it would not be that surprising. Boston as a good defensive system that can help him, which the sens lacked the last couple years cus of DJ smith
Given that I was expecting Ottawa to either have to give up a first to dump his contract or buy him out at a larger cap hit for double the years this is a steal for Ottawa. Yes Korpi is better than he showed last season, but he is nowhere near as good as Ullmark. This is probably a win for Ottawa even if they don't resign Ullmark and if they do it's even better.
And again a very good goalie wins a cup ...I mean it's not rocket science folks u need a stud goalie to have a real chance to win a cup ...not saying skinner sucks just bob was better
It’s impossible to say who won or lost without seeing how the players perform, but my predictions are: Ullmark plays well in Ottawa. .908+ Korpisalo struggles in Boston but improved marginally .900~ Sweeney uses the draft pick and reaches for a center, who will have a projected ceiling of a bottom six center, and he becomes another studnicka or Beecher Kastelic we already know… add him to the list of bottom six centers on the bruins, he’s probably 8-10 in the bottom six center depth chart after Coyle, Zacha, Poitras, Geekie, Beecher, Boqvist, Frederic etc.
That's what bothers me about Kastelic. Does he bring real value to a team? Absolutely. You love a big, defensive bottom 6 forward who's a demon at faceoffs. Is it what the Bruins need? Absolutely not. We already have a bunch of Kastelics. This trade doesn't solve their scoring problem. This doesn't really bolster their defense. They got weaker in net. And they hardly alleviated any cap space from this trade. Unless the Bruins get a steal from their 25th pick I'm willing to chalk this up as a net negative for Boston.
@@dim4757 sorry to disapppoint but Kastelic is considerably worse then every one of those forwards you mentioned. He is big, mean, and good at faceoffs, but he offers next to no offense and is not particularly good defensively. On a good team he would be the 13th or 14th forward.
Umm we will see. I still do not expect much again this year. I do know as a realistic fan that Detroit, Montreal, and Buffalo are coming very fast. I still do not think Boston, your Toronto leafs, and now the Stanley cup champions cats decline at all. No chance sadly.

As a huge CBJ fan, I'm guessing this. Id korpi has a good to great defensive line he's got great potential.
@@BS-vf9zy Fingers crossed for buddy, always rooting for a goalie to prove the stats wrong.
@Waawaaweewaa_ he was very good in los angeles
Its all about defense. Put a goalie on the Bruins or Avs, and they will do decent. Put them on the Caps and oof, Marty Brodeur couldnt save that team.
Korpi was solid in Columbus when the rest of the team didn't hang him out to dry all night. Hell he was the reason a lot of games didn't end up 10-2 or something like that when the team was crap. I'd expect to see him do well in Boston and I'd still rather have him than Elvis.
Sens when they had better than atleast .900 sv% last season: 20-3-1.
The trade announcement 15 minute before the game had to be orchestrated by Andlauer as a middle finger to betman for taking a first round pick from us for the dadonov trade.
Exactly what I thought as well
Kastellic is not a bruiser. Are you basing it simply on his size? He plays really soft.
A little Rat Brad summer crash course will fix that in no time ^_^
Nasty Kasty is tough as nails. Had some epic tilts with Wi-Fi and other guys. Prototypical Bruin player. Still getting his feet wet too
Geez Ullmark or Kuemper or Markstrom would have looked good in Toronto.
Ottawa wins this trade by a mile.
Ullmark and Markstrom had Toronto on their no trade list but your right Leafs BADLY need a real goalie.
You know how pathetic the TML are when Ullmark refuses to play for TML but signs in OTT LMAO!
He didn't sign there. He's on record saying he has NO intention of staying in ottawa after next year. It's an expensive rental
No one wants to play in Canada let alone ontario
@@rogerskitt1542 Where did he say he has no intention to stay in Ottawa???
Correct me if I'm wrong ... but did the Maple Leafs drop the ball again. Ottawa gets a top goalie .. and Leafs sit on their thumbs. 🤣🤣
As a Sens fan, I like this move. Ullmark is the most talented goalie the Sens have ever had. I also think the price was acceptable for him.
Dominik Hasek would like some words.
Now watch Ullmark tank and Korpisalo shine 🤣
-Markstrom deployer
Not going to happen
That’s my fear
That would mean deeper issues than just a goalie for Ottawa, which is very much possible.
As a bruins fan, this is the only redemption to this bumbling of ulmarks trade.
So what is the Leafs plan for the Goalie???
Huge add for Ottawa, who were a solid goalie away from making the next step. This trade becomes bigger for the Senators if they can sign him and Ullmark doesn't go to free agency at the end of next season.
Waited for this and now it's here! Thanks Steve!
Ottawa in the playoffs Leafs out
That trade path of the #25 pick is actually quite interesting, because it is Boston's own pick. They traded it to Detroit for Tyler Bertuzzi back in the day. Detroit than traded it to Ottawa in the DeBrincat deal, who now traded it back to Boston. 🤣
Kastelic is not mean. Hes a big teddy bear who sometimes hits people. Boston can probably whip him into shape though.
He can throw em with the best! Boston fans will love him. Good in the dot as well
Reaves - Tavares - Marner 4th line gonna go hard next season
tavares is cursed. the leafs will NEVER win the cup with him.
Agreeed.. his contract is absolutely horrid @@briandonovan1381
What ? R u drunk 😂
Lol
15 mins before the game ..the Bruins steal Florida's thunder...LoL
Pasta was drafted 25th overall...
hey Steve, just a reminder that the 3 picks in a row was Sweeney’s first draft. as for Ullmark, I completely respected him in Buffalo and loved him as a Bruin, but not the contract.
Ottawa with absolute steal 😊😊 Korpi is awful, Kastelic is a 5th liner, 25th in a weak draft is nothing
The draft isn’t weak it’s average at worst. Lots of upside on picks that could slip to 20-40.
Not a weak draft at all. There’s gonna be lots of good players available at 25th.
Hey Dangle another move coming today with Ottawa Joseph being traded to Philly for Konecky.
That would be good because Pierre passed on him twice
What did boston get in whatever trade they sent that pick out in? It says it's their own 1st rd pick.
Sent it to Detroit for Bertuzzi. Detroit sent it to Ottawa for Debrinkat
@zachhaist6426 bertuzzi truly was a rental and the bruins just traded ulmark for korpisalo lol
Do you see the Canucks doing the same thing with Demko in a few years?
Toronto misses the boat again.
Like always
As a Leafs fan, we’ve been missing the boat year after year, not just for players. Team with the worst luck, maybe.
Almost forgot to mention a whopping 1.165 million in cap space gained, get the duck boats ready!
probably have their eyes on a Centre they like in the first round
I know ullmark isnt a backup but for the bruins he is
Plus the Buins cant afford to pay 2 goalies 5M or more.
At this point it has integrated into his regular interaction @7:05
Edit: time stamp
Sens win this one. Korpisalo might do well as a backup, but Swayman will be carrying the majority of load in Boston. Kastelic was too inconsistent during the season and saw his TOI diminished in most games. I suspect come next season, unless Boston is looking for a 4th line center, they'll place him on waivers so he can play in the AHL or he'll be a 13th forward.
So Ullmark would rather go to Ottawa than LA? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 what a joke
He’s from Sweden so ofc he does
Better opportunity in Ottawa
@@neilsunstrum933 how? Ottawa is a worse team and isn’t going anywhere
@@HockeyFan102 Sens have a much better core. Goalie and defensive dman is all they lacked until now. New Ownership, GM, coach goalie…If you put LA in the Atlantic they would never make the playoffs
Yeah but what did the rumours say the Leafs were offering? Isn’t that how you guys measure whether the trade is good or not?
I see that different. Korpisalo even at 3m is not a good contract. That`s for 4 more years, a guy that failed to be a starter and might not even be a premium backup.
For that you get Ullmark, a guy who`s a season away from a venizan, and stellar 93.8 SV% with lower than 2gaa in almost 50 games.
Honestly, Korpisalo had 0 value, it was rather a buyout with his numbers.
The player is a depth player that`s worth close to nothing and their own 1st.
I`m not at all impressed of the return the Bruins got for one of the best available goalies.
Your point of trade being now ,Bruins buying out Korpisalo?
Trade doesnt make sense to me from the Boston side. I feel like they couldve gotten more. What is funny is all of the goalies the Leafs fans think theyre getting are all being traded. Who plays goal for the Leafs next year? Woll?
Boston got back their original 1st rounder from the Bertuzzi trade?
sens need a goalie, they were at the bottom of the league in goaltending. Korpisalo isn't a good goaltender and isn't worth his contract, he won't do well anywhere. Ottawa came way ahead in this trade.
Interesting to see if the Big Bad Bruins can make a man out of Kastelic.
So did Cory Schneider from Vancouver to New Jerseys and nothing happened 😂
Woohoo another division rival with a goalie and Leafs with none. 🎉🎉🎉
Anton and Linus was a tandem in Sweden for years playing for Modo.
These great trades just show me (again) just how bad and lazy the Leafs' organization really is.
And the leafs will grab yet another 4th string goalie fml
Bruins didn't get weaker per se, but no more goalie bear hugs makes me sad.
Both teams got what they wanted.
Ullmark will dip in Ottawa.
Bruins will still have a decent goaltending tandem at a slightly lower cap cost. Plus they had some depth and pick/trade asset for Friday's draft.
Ullmark will be awesome in Ottawa, he fits them well. Sens will revamp that D this summer
@@sachinruparelia It will take a bit more that the Sens tweaking their D-core for Ullmark to put up the numbers he did in Boston.
He's definitely a needed upgrade for the Sens.
Was hoping TO had a shot at Ullmark, but that was a fools hope. A bit surprising they traded him to a team in same division tho.
I like Korpi. When he was on the Jackets he really didn't get much help but every now and then he really stole some games for us. Hope he does well for Boston.
I thought they needed a center ? 😮
I’m going to subscribe Steve. Possibly growing into the best hockey analyst even though the leafs are your team. Good job bro. Carry on.
Should have gotten their top 10 pick.
So if Bostons pick is a 2nd round pick at #26 what is Torontos #23 😅
Well that explains Woll being extended for too much money too soon....Leafs are in a shitstorm right now, they are not getting better by trading marner... maybe different, but not better.
You think when Ullmark doesn't work Sens leadership might look at each other and realize their defensive structure is non-existent?
Boston could flip that pick for someone like a - oh, I don't know - Tyler Bertuzzi? ;)
Flip it to who? Bert is going to be a free agent on Monday...
@cmac3530 the joke is that it is Boston's original pick that they sent to Detroit for Bertuzzi. Nobody seems to mention the fact that it was their pick in this draft.
Goalies have a long track record of going out to pasture in Ottawa, we shall see.
Ullmark will play it out ,and then leave he’s not staying on a bottom place team he is too old for that waiting around take that to the bank 😂🎉😅
Two goalies got traded this summer and Toronto still with Samsonov hahahahaha
Nothing wrong with building around a goalie. Great move for the Sens. Wish the Sharks did something like this, I guess our #14 is going to stick with us.
Curious to see how Swayman responds now.
Pasta was a 25th pick
It's great for Ottawa. They needed a goalie. They got one.
He definitely had a bad year in Ottawa and couldn’t catch a puck to save his life but it wouldn’t surprise me if he turned it around in Boston.
@@neilsunstrum933 yes it would not be that surprising. Boston as a good defensive system that can help him, which the sens lacked the last couple years cus of DJ smith
Our defense wasn't even that bad last year. Korpi is just legit awful
He had a good defence in front of him, Ottawa currently does not.
The Bruins traded a goalie they arent gonna resign for a 1st round pick. its a good trade for them. They arent gonna be good next year so why keep him
How can anyone say Ottawa lost this trade, while acquiring once of the best goalies. Homerism is strong
If Ullmark and his agent are smart they will play things out and go UFA to the highest bidder and go to a team that is more competitive.
I wonder if teams will now be even more likely to offer sheet swayman, if for nothing else, than to drive his price up for the Bruins.
As a Bruins fan I would've preferred another player than Koorpisalo
I really thought if Edmonton lost they’d trade ullmark for nuge
They thinking of offer sheeting a player for more than 8 million?
Mark Kastelic isn’t a big bruising depth player he’s barely an nhler
be fun to play the leafs and potentialy have a goalie battle
I cant wait for Ullmark to leave at the end of the season
If he does Ottawa will recoup assets at the deadline.
Go Sens Go!
And again a very good goalie wins a cup ...I mean it's not rocket science folks u need a stud goalie to have a real chance to win a cup ...not saying skinner sucks just bob was better
It’s impossible to say who won or lost without seeing how the players perform, but my predictions are:
Ullmark plays well in Ottawa. .908+
Korpisalo struggles in Boston but improved marginally .900~
Sweeney uses the draft pick and reaches for a center, who will have a projected ceiling of a bottom six center, and he becomes another studnicka or Beecher
Kastelic we already know… add him to the list of bottom six centers on the bruins, he’s probably 8-10 in the bottom six center depth chart after Coyle, Zacha, Poitras, Geekie, Beecher, Boqvist, Frederic etc.
Solid goalie for Ottawa imo cheers from Miami ✊🌴🐀🌴
This sucks moving Ullmark to Ottawa. They will be sorry if Swayman gets injured. Swayman stole Ullmarks position.
Stay in the goal !!!!!!
Umm we will see. I still do not expect much again this year. I do know as a realistic fan that Detroit, Montreal, and Buffalo are coming very fast. I still do not think Boston, your Toronto leafs, and now the Stanley cup champions cats decline at all. No chance sadly.
Knowing ottawa's luck, korpisalo will outplay ullmark
It's likely just with the teams around them. Ottawa isn't exactly a defensive team
@@Adam-xs4eothey weren’t good because of DJ smith. When you look at their defensive players, there’s a lot of talent, they should unironically be a top 10-15 defensive team, and w a new coach I believe it will improve.
