No it's not a fire sale if you can't get rid of your big contracts and/or the guys that are keeping you a little competitive. You want assets and you want to bottom out.
I know this is a foreign concept to Leaf fans, but one should treat their elite superstars with respect. If Crosby, and Malkin want to stay Penguins, let them stay Penguins. If one or more ask for a trade, oblige them and trade them. They have already brought the organization multiple championships. Don’t treat them like an asset. Treat them like the legends that they are.
As a fan myself, I’m tired of seeing them delay the inevitable. I don’t care that they are four points out of a playoff spot. Even if they make it, it is a guaranteed first round exit. I would rather see them, take initiative and start retooling at the LEAST. but rebuilding is probably best because unlike the capitals, we did not have a strong prospect pool.
The longer this goes on the more likely it will be that the Pens become the next Ken Holland Red Wings. Ask Detroit fans how has the last 10 years been.
@15:19 - You just described two of the three major league franchises in the city of Pittsburgh. The Steelers and Penguins are both doing the same thing because the majority of their fans fall for it every year. When was the last time the Penguins won a playoff series or the Steelers won a playoff game? Oh, and the Pirates just completely suck despite a pretty solid starting rotation.
Let Crosby, Malkin, and Letang walk after their contracts are up, but before that add a ton of young prospects who can learn from them. Send away Rakell, Karlsson, and Pettersson ASAP to playoff teams for picks in the next 2-3 drafts and just rebuild for the next 4-5 years. They're gonna need a future captain once Crosby is gone, and I don't see anybody on this roster who can inherit that position right now. The alternative is retool like the Caps just did and go another 3-4 years at most, then be boned after that without a prospect pool.
Basically, the crazy thing here is that if they trade these guys they could actually be a better team down the stretch. And people had to know there was gonna be a steep decline as the Crosby, Malkin, Letang core is getting older. The fact that Crosby is playing at an elite level at his age is remarkable. But ya trade Letang and anymore else that can be traded. It has to be done. This should be a rebuild, and to push that off for an outside chance at a wildcard spot is ridiculous. Keep Crosby and Malkin and trade the rest of them. That's the right path for the Penguins right now.
@jfkst1 I'm saying this taking into consideration his age and wear and tear on his body and the state of the lack of talent around him in recent years. He's obviously not gonna put up 100 point seasons anymore. But his ability to see the whole ice and make the proper plays in my opinion, is still elite. And to be able to watch it has been awesome. Having been old enough to see Mario's career is even more gratifying. Again, maybe Crosby isn't what he once was, but he's still an amazing player.
The time for a fire sale was 2 years ago, before they extended Letang and Malkin, when they still had some value on the trade market. There was no way that they were going to win with the Big Three. Had the rebuild started then, they would be well on their way, likely making the playoffs again and still have Jake. Now they have fewer quality assets to trade, meaning the rebuild is delayed another 3-5 years. Any hopes of competing before Sydney retires are probably gone.

Only someone who loathes hockey, and especially the Penguins, would suggest they trade their two best players: Crosby and Rakell. That person also would not understand business; you don’t give up your two best assets if you want to stay in business. You want to see a franchise tank itself quickly; trade Crosby. Unless he wants to go somewhere else, and let’s admit it even for the haters ALL the other teams would want him, he should be a Penguin as long as he wants to play. The majority of people buying tickets and merch and watching the Crosby and the Penguins are watching for Sid, and many of those want to watch the trio. There’s more to hockey than the cup. Too many focus on the destination and not the journey. Regular season lasts so much longer than the playoffs. Every year only half the league makes it to the first round. Only one team wins it. Fact is most hockey players, even those in the NHL, will not win a cup. Playing in the NHL is the goal, winning the cup is the ultimate bonus. No they shouldn’t have a fire sale. They should work on changing out players more with prospects to see how they work with the team.
@@SkyWalker7d1 they have one spot for retain left this deadline. Granted they probably use it on Marcus Petterson to get best value for him. A possible Karlsson trade more than likely happends in the off season when they have all of their retain spots available again.

There won’t b a fire sale. They will trade pettersson and others but I don’t think they will blow up even if they should
Pens will make one last run next season. Hope they offer sheet Knies!!!
someone will pick up the scraps from Pit.
I mean the should've done that at least 3 years ago.
You can't trust Dubas for a garage sale never mind a fire sale, that clown has ruined the team already 😭
Crosby to Minnesota
All i can tell, who ever takes Karlsson you are jinxed, hes a curse. And well Dubas as well
Karlsson with 2 mil retained for J.T. Miller. Bring Miller home and give Pettersson a nice swede to play with
Pens can’t retain and that would be 1 step forward 2 steps backwards by acquiring ANOTHER forward in their 30’s
@@SkyWalker7d1 they have one spot for retain left this deadline. Granted they probably use it on Marcus Petterson to get best value for him. A possible Karlsson trade more than likely happends in the off season when they have all of their retain spots available again.
Both players want a contender so Karlsson won't waive for Vancouver and Miller won't waive for Pittsburgh.
@@jaakkokoivurinta5024 yeah I could see that happening, I kinda hopes it happens just so I can see what kind of return he gets
I understand the Penguins predicament. I mean who wants to be the guy that moved Crosby? But on the other hand this team is just spinning its wheels.
Tank for three years. Get a new core.
Shouldve happened 5 years ago.
Its a FIRE.... sale
It’s a fake report.
Quack Quack!
Dubas. The death of organizations. Literally the angel of death.
As soon as they hired Kyle Dubas, I knew they were fucked. He's a borderline conman. A bro in a suit who makes boomer moves pretending to be a wizkid.
Is Graves Guillotine-able
Could be too tall but we got some solid yinzer carpenters
I said it last trade deadline... If the Penguins wanted to have a legit chance at another cup they had to trade Crosby last trade deadline.
They could do it now but.. 2 playoffs vs 1 is HUGE difference in return.
Why would they even consider moving him?
@@nummytacos128 forgot the important part... Trade him last trade deadline... Resign him this summer... Have chance to win cup again with Crosby.
i'd still love to see the avs get him.
@jessearmstrong6583 last year.. Imagine had they sent him to the Oilers for Holloway, McLeod, Broberg and 2+ firsts...
Next season Crosby could re sign with a much stronger Pens team.
Losing the fanbase Crosby brings to Pittsburgh isn’t worth trading him for. Keep as a Penguin all his career.
Karlsson will be moved for a little return and money retained. Free up money for free agents next summer
Penguins have plenty of money for free agents. Why would a rebuilding team need expensive free agents?
He will? To where?
The Dubas Disaster
Common let's here all the Dubas is the best ever talk
