@@carlosalvador98 They're obviously assuming Elliot Friedman is right and the cap will jump to 95 million next season (a likely scenario if the NHL wants to avoid having a massive cap jump the season after when the salary cap formula put in place for covid ends and it goes back to the normal formula). The Math works just fine, but I think Florida will easily resign Bennet
I wish I could see a break down of Marner’s stats according to the opponent. Playoff teams versus bottom feeders. Also would be interesting to see his stats versus teams like Boston, St. Louis, Florida etc. Is he really that good versus strong and heavy defensive teams that take his time and space away? Playoffs would show that he’s not effective against those teams when I counts.

Issue isn't Marner. Playoffs you play the same team up to 7 times. Leafs have 2 scoring lines that are elite and a top pair defense that is elite, but the depth for both is where the issue lies. Teams prep, and plan for this, so if you only have 1/2 scoring lines, playoffs will shut you down. Look at the Florida Panthers that won last year, where they had 4 lines contributing in scoring. Leafs don't have that.

Stop this nonsense about "can't lose for nothing". Leafs have signed "other" teams UFAs for years but somehow the Leafs have to get a package back for Marner. Playoff contenders actually trade for UFAs for a Cup run, knowing they don't have the cap to resign those players.
Rantinin has scored 55 goals in the year he got 105pts. He also has over 100pts in 81 playoff games, which is way better than Marner or Matthew's, so ya, better player's get paid more, he's worth it. So what would be fair is for Mitch to make about 15% less than whatever Rantinin makes, that would be fair. This is a hypothesis but some ufa's might be tempted to sign to teams that are in a perfect (draft/rank) situation and wait 2-3 years to get really good chances to get the cup. I have Phily, Montreal and Columbus under my radar.
Is Toronto the only market/team/ which values players based on their regular season success... unlike almost every other teams which rates the players with more emphasis on playoff-games success?
I’m a leafs fan and I can say our media is the main perpetrator in this. The real leaf fans understand playoffs is important that is why I would rather pay 💰 Rantanen over Marner as an example

With the season Marner is having, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets more than Matthews is currently making. The cap is going to be well up over when Matthews signed AND Marner will be signing for 8 years, rather than Matthews’ 5. Combine these economic and situational factors with his stickler of an agent, and I don’t doubt 14Mx8yrs.
Hahaha, Sam Bennett as the 3rd line centre on $7m/7 years on the Leafs, wake up! He is a top 6 centre on a cup winning team and a regular season juggernaught!
We’re not used to new salary cap numbers. So what we think of a 5 million dollar player is probably gonna be worth 6 aka Tavares. Who at a point a game, yes you sign him at 6! Superstars and even star player are gonna get a bigger raise than that! Rantanen at 14 isn’t unheard of. Avs should welcome that! Be grateful you have Makar and MacKinnon at current contracts.
I think there’s way to much wishful thinking by leaf’s fans on John Tavares, this guy is worth a lot more then 6 million dollars, for a center, who can still give you production around 70 to 80 points, who is known for being a 200 foot player, and if I’m John, this is my final contract, this is likely the last contract he signs int he nhl, he owes Toronto nothing, and I think he could get more money on the open market, and let’s say John is not to concerned about the money and for him he wants to win a cup, respectfully, if Toronto falls out of the playoffs again in the first round, why would he come back, Mitch is in his prime, I understand him staying in Toronto, but John I don’t know
@SteveDangle, would not be nice to see Marner and Matthews split for a playoff series?? Let’s find out who the real problem is here. Everyone rips Mitch but he played with Matthews most of these series who also laid an egg. I hope we get a decent 3C and split up the big 3 and treat this playoff like a tryout. Keep the two that can run their own lines into success. What you think Steve D??
You would spend 20 years searching for replacement for Mikko. He will be an Av next year. 13.5, 14, 14.5, they will pay it. They cant move him before the playoffs without losing the team, they cant let him walk for nothing, and unless something absolutely explodes the two sides figure it out
If Ovechkin retires this summer and doesn't come back, Washington suddenly has an extra $9.5m to spend and a top line scoring role to fill. They're going to have to go shopping for a whale if Ovechkin isn't on the books next year.
@Dratchev241 I agree and that's why I mentioned it. Honestly, I would love to see him have a full season long farewell tour but he might not want to. He might legit score the record breaking goal and go sit on the bench and never play another shift. I wouldn't blame him one bit. He's logged a lot of miles on that body. To still be performing at the level he is at 39 is absurd. But yeah if his $9.5m is suddenly available for Washington and they have a hole in the top line, they could throw big money at a scorer this summer.
@@mikeb.2925 I suspect if he breaks it this year, he won't be done. you know he is going to go for another cup and this year likely is his last chance and he likely knows this. So he for sure is going for a cup and he knows if the record ain't broke this year he can do it next year likely very easy.
I would be very surprised if he retired after this year. He is still so good and especially now that the Capitals are legit and a contender; why hang em up? He honestly could just camp in his one timer spot on the power play until he is 45 and still score 30 a year.
@crushdavis7048 he's got a young family and he's not a young man. What's left to accomplish? He might just be tired and ready to enjoy the rest of his life that isn't on the ice. Could he still score some goals? Sure. But maybe he just simply doesn't want to be Jagr.

@bradbradbury8561 No Mitch will be 28 at the end of this season. This is the year for him to get a 7 or 8 year deal. Not when his is 31.
AVS can't and won't pay Rantanen more than Nate. If he wants more than 11mil AVS should just let him walk.
Adam bring'n the Rantanen heat. 🔥
It’s going to bring a tear to my eye watching his steel touch the ice @ PPG paints Ice area in Autumn of next year. Yinz gotta come dahntahn to wasch-it. Parade route is getting off 279 at Pittsburgh! 2yrs/ 9.3million.
if rantanen hits ufa this offseason, i think the hawks will be big time suitors.
If Marner signs in Toronto he'll be overpaid regardless of the number unless he does something to help the team win the Stanley Cup this season.
Always, always bet on self interest.
People can say whatever they want but at the end of the day, people will always care about themselves above all else.
Ehlers to Montreal. 7 x 7
Him and Laine are best friends and played amazing together
With the season Marner is having, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets more than Matthews is currently making. The cap is going to be well up over when Matthews signed AND Marner will be signing for 8 years, rather than Matthews’ 5. Combine these economic and situational factors with his stickler of an agent, and I don’t doubt 14Mx8yrs.
Hahaha, Sam Bennett as the 3rd line centre on $7m/7 years on the Leafs, wake up! He is a top 6 centre on a cup winning team and a regular season juggernaught!
Taylor Hall is coming off a ACL Injury, you can tell he's a bit slower.
Can’t believe they didn’t predict where Bob Augden lands!
Chychrun stays
A lot of people don’t realize the canes will have an insane amount of cap space this off season
Watch the cap. With 40% of gross NHL income in CAD $ and all expenses in USD and the exchange rate there may be a flat cap for a while.
I’m I crazy for thinking 12.5 is still to much for Marner ?
You don't have a brain
We’re not used to new salary cap numbers. So what we think of a 5 million dollar player is probably gonna be worth 6 aka Tavares. Who at a point a game, yes you sign him at 6! Superstars and even star player are gonna get a bigger raise than that! Rantanen at 14 isn’t unheard of. Avs should welcome that! Be grateful you have Makar and MacKinnon at current contracts.
MARNER TO THE RANGERS
We don’t make the playoffs without marner…. Healthy Matthew’s or not… figure it out guys
Taylor Hall to the Habs as a reclamation project
4 more years than Matthews .. you guys overlook the difference between term.. 4 years and 8 years are completely different
Adam…,Toffoli just signed long term in San Jose…
Funny how he’s trying his best now. I wonder why 😅 he can walk if he’s asking 13.1 and he’s not worth more than Nylander 😊
Hall to Dallas I think him and Seguin would have chemistry And Marner anywhere else.
I think there’s way to much wishful thinking by leaf’s fans on John Tavares, this guy is worth a lot more then 6 million dollars, for a center, who can still give you production around 70 to 80 points, who is known for being a 200 foot player, and if I’m John, this is my final contract, this is likely the last contract he signs int he nhl, he owes Toronto nothing, and I think he could get more money on the open market, and let’s say John is not to concerned about the money and for him he wants to win a cup, respectfully, if Toronto falls out of the playoffs again in the first round, why would he come back, Mitch is in his prime, I understand him staying in Toronto, but John I don’t know
I think the Stl blues might consider Taylor hall and Brock boeser
@SteveDangle, would not be nice to see Marner and Matthews split for a playoff series?? Let’s find out who the real problem is here. Everyone rips Mitch but he played with Matthews most of these series who also laid an egg. I hope we get a decent 3C and split up the big 3 and treat this playoff like a tryout. Keep the two that can run their own lines into success. What you think Steve D??
You didn't tell us how much Brock boeser's new contract is going to be
None of you guys picked new jersey as destination is crazy I'm sure some of those guys would love to play the Hughes brothers 🤔
They're going to have to go shopping for a whale if Ovechkin isn't on the books next year.
and if ovi beats the record this year I would not be shocked if he hangs it up this year for sure.
We can easy say next year they will be contenders but look at the rangers and how fast that fell apart, caps could have same happen next year.
11:17 with the Simpsons Reference... AMAZING.
I was a fan back in the sixties and no one trashed talked players the way you v-bloggers do and these Leafs are in a different league to players back then.
So every player except for the leafs players wont be resigning?
Toffoli has 3 years left on his deal he’s not a pending UFA
If the Leafs can sign Marner to a contract of 13.1 per year for 8 years they would be stupid not to. Marner will be giving them a home town discount.
Tavares will get 5 for 8. With the expectation he will be on Robidas Island for the last 4 years.
Contracts should be based on how you perform against good teams. Why pay players 12M for hat tricks against non playoff teams.
Beating non-playoff teams is important for making the playoffs (and selling tickets).
Gonna go out on a limb and say Hall signs with Ottawa $3M / 2Yrs
Signing Marner back isn't so bad, even though it will mean we will never win a Cup, at least we have him.
Marner is not a playoff player.
This year yes.
He thrives with time and space and not when the rules change in the playoffs.
Correction , Marner is not now nor never going to be a playoff player.
Who is a playoff performer on this team?? Who can you say other than maybe Knies, elevates their game for playoffs? I think I’d keep Marner out of the 3. Trade Nylander first and Matthews if Nylander doesn’t work out
Who is a playoff performer on this team?? Who can you say other than maybe Knies, elevates their game for playoffs? I think I’d keep Marner out of the 3. Trade Nylander first and Matthews if Nylander doesn’t work out
Brock to the Wild 100%
oilers don't want Hall back lol
Soooo... All Leafs re-sign... everyone else goes to Minnesota and NYR. Got it.
Diff is 750,000 from Matthews until when
This is the last year. If no playoff success
Have to trade
Marner will sign with Toronto for a “hometown discount” of 13 mil per year lol. Let me ask you leaf fans, would you have Marner at 13 mil? Or take a Suzuki or Caufield for 7.8?
If Mitch scores at will in the playoffs, and they go on a deep run, then yeah give him money. If he doesn’t, immediately walk away
Avs getting a bunch of Finns to entice Mikko lol. He wants 14M x 7. That's $98M. If Avs do 12.5M x 8 = $100M does he sign?
ADAM WITH HUGE HOG ENERGY ON THAT RANTANEN PREDICTION AND I LOVE IT
Tavares at 6.5 is ridiculous
6 times 3 and he can be traded anywhere.
@JohnSturman no he cant , he would have no trade clause , no way he waives it ,
@Dx-so7jm Not on the new contract. Enough of the core 4 holding our salary cap hostage.
Rangers will go all in on Rantanen...Marner isn't Drury's style
He wasn't traded when the window was open, They're going to resign him. He walks and Toronto gets nothing for Him is terrible
That is a sh!t ton of money for 3 players.
Ekblad 8.25 x 6
Taylor Hall to Montreal 1 year 4 mil
Im okay with mitch signing again in toronto. But for the love of chuck norris, just dont sign him with a no movement/no trade clause again. Being possibly stuck with someone who never shows up when it counts for 8 years is a nightmare. And I want tavares to stay in toronto, hes such a good leaf....but he needs to take a big hometown deal so we can get some top 9 centers in the mix.
How are we gonna get top 9 centers if we sign Marner to a bag. We should go after Rantanen if the Avs don’t sign him
Bennet to the leafs would be awesome. The leafs would steamroll boston every year if that happened.
Leafs are not a playoff team, not just mitch
IF chychrun leaves Washington, which he won’t, it will be Florida.
If you lock up both Marner and Matthews long term kiss your hopes of a cup goodbye. Way too soft of a duo to lead a team through.
This team is going to be scary old in a few seasons...
Marner to Colorado Rantanen to Toronto.
We have enough bottom 6 guys. We don't need anymore
Hope the leafs contracts are correct, keep being mediocre in the playoffs from the foreseeable future 🙏
I think Mikko knows his success is based largely on playing with Mac and Makar. He's crazy if he leaves.
He has led the league in points when MacKinnon was injured and makar wasn't around. He is a playoff beast and data shows that he performs well even without McKinnon and Makar.
Rantanen is a genius on the ice and its not like he will go to a team and play with bums... Fox and Panarin and I reckon he'd still eat good lol... same with Boldy and Kaprizov
5:00 they finally stop glazing Marner and move on to yet.. another leaf.
mikko will resign for the rest of his career with us , and his deal will have one or 2 years at lower cost to make sure makar gets signed aswell for another 8 years ,avs are not letting him walk and why would he , why go sign for a little more to have no chemistry ... right stamkos lmao
Marner renew 14x8
Guys, not everyone is going to the Rangers or Wild 😂
Rangers are clearing house
They ain’t going to Columbus
@@KaleFGB 1. Did I say they were? 2. That’s what everyone said about Johnny too lol. The Jackets have a ton of cap space. They aren’t gonna do nothing with it
@@dylanwynkoop4578 jesus so emotional
@@KaleFGBThe Jackets literally have over 40 mil in cap space that they have to use to hit the cap floor. If Rantanen hits the market, which I don’t think he even hits the market, however he has a Cup and could just chase the money. He could get 15 mil from Columbus.
If you think Mitch Marner is worth Jack Hughes + any above average 3rd line/2nd pair player Ive got NFTs for sale. Absolute clownshoes.
