I don't know if it's true or not, but actual things were found in the cellars. Like an actual home, a ring, a coffin, and some other stuff. And there's actually a de chagy family, but I doubt they're related to the fop. I believe it, since I love Erik so much, but it says in the beginning of the Phantom novel by Gaston Leroux, that Erik was a real person.
Silly question: Does anyone know if they can sit in Box 5 now or is it still only for the ghost? Because it seems like it is a very popular place to visit. If anyone can answer this, it would be cool.
You can sit in box 5 but it's expensive (around 300 euros) and in France we are and mostly the people who work in the opera are very superstisious about the phantom. And if you don't know the phantom had really lived in the archives we have still his notes and after his 3rd note the opera was closed during 20 years ! I have visited the opera yesterday the guide will explain to you everything about this story...
Gemma Gray If you have read the book, it's exactly the same notes, but if you want to know more about the true story and if you have other questions as k me on facebook (julie bausmayer) ^^
I wanna visit this place soooooooo badly! As you said in your video,"I can die happy now!" I would be able to die happy as well if I got to visit here.
... so he knows his way around in the opera house. He builds himself a house in the cellars of the opera filled with trap doors and hidden passageways, so no one can find him. Then the events in the book take place. To me it's a story about a man who is a true genius but is discriminated by society just because he's ugly. Like Leroux said: "with an ordinary face, he would have been one of the most distinguished of mankind! ... and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar".
Oh, if only I could go. I want to see (at least) these four things in the Paris Opera house: -Box 5 (I'd love to, as Leroux says "tap my fist...on the column...(to) find that it sounds hollow....") -The underground lake -The roof-top (although I'd be totally freaked XD) -The chandelier
Girl, you are soooo lucky! Would you believe the Boston Opera House looks just like this? And POTO is gonna be there in June, no joke! I'm already freaked out!
That's awesome! I want to go there some day! I think the story is true, and there are events from the book the really did happen. I've read that the underground vaults are closed though. That's the place that would be the most exciting though!
I believe the story of the phantom of the opera (Leroux's version) is actually true, or at least parts of it. Think about it: a man with a deformed face is loathed by everyone, who wouldn't go crazy in that situation? For that reason he does not know the difference between right and wrong and he kills and tortures a lot of people. At some point he realizes he just wants to live a normal life, he goes to Paris and works as a construction worker building the Palais Garnier...
He wasn't crazy, but was very lonely. Eric(not real name) was an acquaintance of Charles and a brilliant engineer-architect, who solved the problem of groundwater. But the story with the girl was actually written off from a friend of Gaston, who did not want to divorce his suffragist wife. Leroyx used this story because he didn't know anything about Eric's real life.
Whyutah' when you showed MC as phantom he became Phantom on stage in 86 and that music video is from 87 so you was wrong putting 1988 that waswhen it came out on Broadway not in general terms

It must have been hard leaving the Opera after your visit.

It was tightly concreted a century and a half ago.

You are incredibly lucky to have gone there! And I love the little bit at the end XD
