I know this is several months old but since I didn’t see it answered-yes, you can overdose on penicillin and it can cause severe symptoms such as seizures. But (not that Ellie would know) the amount it looks like she’s giving wouldn’t cause an overdose. And most vials of antibiotics, even 20 years ago, are single-dose to be diluted in a bag of saline and given IV (multi-use vials of anything are increasingly more rare than they used to be because of the risk of contamination with multiple uses.) Even if she didn’t know how much she was giving, sepsis would be more likely to kill Joel (and he already looks severely septic) than an overdose.
There is an entire movie about a Chilean soccer team crashing in the Andies mountains, and survivors were found a month later only after they had been eating the bodies of their dead companions and we think these people as hero’s. But in the zombie apocalypse, if you eat the dead your an animal. Now, I I can’t say that I would eat a human, I certainly don’t eat fish. But I do know if hungry enough, I’d eat me some fish.

To answer Nikki’s question: no you can’t really overdose on most antibiotics. Overusing one can make you feel sick but won’t likely kill you. However, taking one you’re allergic to can kill you. Also taking one that is not meant for the type of infection being treated means it would be ineffective treatment and a waste of the medication, which I imagine is priceless in Ellie’s world.

This episode was amazing, I feel like the contrast between Ellie in the flash back playing games and experiencing her first love and having fun like a kid would in the mall compared to this episode with her merching dudes, getting SA’d, and facing her biggest fear of being alone was incredible. The advancement of Ellie and Joel’s connection is great, and seeing how infected may not be the darkest thing out there but instead it’s other people.

Easily my favorite episode of the series. The performances was outstanding, savage joel is back and ellie with a badass yet traumatic experience. Im gonna miss this show
He really was compelling the whole time. I went back and forth a couple of times if he was genuine or not (though I was fairly certain he’d be the bad guy in the end). But this character and the actor were both phenomenal.
for those who dont know, yes ellie killing david is at a first glance seen as a victory for ellie. we all cheered (yes even ppl who played the game) the reality however is that she is 14, a child basically, considering that david was about to assault her and ellie had to resort to kill him to defend herself is really sad. its sad that she even had to go through all of that in this episode and in the game. her innocence is lost regardless. which is really heartbreaking. it comes to show that even in a world like theirs, people like david unfortunately still exist. kudos to bella, her acting is fucking phenomenal.
I suspect that such predators would appear in greater abundance in such a world devoid of a civilized society with a governing body and law enforcement.
Exactly, but unfortunately, in a world like that, everybody has to defend themselves like that, even if you are as young as Ellie. How the way that world works unfortunately.
@@ro4eva It's very clear through underage 'sex tourism' and how much some people push the limits of legality when it comes to their sexual or 'romantic' partners that the only thing keeping them from going younger, or what we'd say is underage, is the law - an extremely horrifying thought.
Bella's performance in the fire scenes was so perfect and so sad, her screams sounded much closer to a wail than a enraged fit. All I heard was the cry of a child when they're in distress and don't know what to do with the feelings. She's amazing.
They sounded like pure fear at first then when she started fileting David you could hear the rage! "This is for Riley, this is for Tess, this is for Sam, this is for Henry, this is for Joel, this is for ME!!!"
I definitey agree with this. In the game she hits him roughly 10 times. Here it's at least 20 and this definitely felt more visceral than in the game. This moment for me was tough to watch because we are basically watching a child become a shell of her former self and killing that last bit of innocence she had left in the process. I don't know if I would ever want to bring a child into a shitty world like that where you would have to do whatever is necessary to survive. Bella absolutely deserves an Emmy for this episode.
I noticed that too, everyone else had scraps for portions that they were trying to eat every bit of. While the preacher had a meal big enough to be considered having seconds and still be full of food. Fucking creep(the character obvious not the actor)
As someone who hasn't played the game, as relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. That guy was a monster. Overall, another great episode. Can't wait for the big finale and your reaction to it.
Yeah, a lot of people will be so busy cheering her on, they forget there's a price involve in taking a life. As any soldier who has seen action can attest!
God damn, dude. Literally every episode has been a tear jerker for me. Such deep shit. This one especially. The ending got me. The preacher trying to rape Ellie was fast, but you knew what happened, you can tell she was traumatized by that and it triggered her to chop that man up even more. The relief and heartbreak I felt when Joel finally popped up for Ellie. Ugh the "baby girl" from Joel!! Bella is doing an amazing job as Ellie.
That was the part that got me too. I think him trying that was what finally made her snap. And my heart shattered when Joel finally found her in the snow. I almost cried. I think him calling her baby girl hit hard because I’d seen the game version and knew the significance.
I had to listen to his dialog again because , I swear, he used a little bit of game Joel voice in this performance. It's kinda funny too that live action Elie killed game Joel.
I'm convinced people who still cannot get behind the casting feel that way because they didn't get a more "attractive" actress to play a 14 year old and it really says a lot about them.
@@sirJames8 I've seen that exact reason as to why they don't like her brought up way too many times, especially the last eight weeks. It's absolutely disgusting. Heck, I saw someone last night say, "well she's 19 in real life and Ellie is 19 in Part 2, so she's just not pretty enough." Like, WTF?!?!?!?!
I just love that Ellie does the one, simple thing that we ask of people in horror films: when you land that first strike, and the killer goes down, KEEP. HACKING. AWAY. Don’t flee until the job is done
One of many reasons I don't watch horror flicks. Other than they are not entertaining for me, I usually find the protaganists so stupid I start rooting for the bad guy/monster etc .
Is not just the fact that Pedro and Bella are so good at their roles, but all the cast has been delivering fantastic performances every episode. this consistency is rare. So, in the end they make the story captivating even thou you have played the game (a solid script is part of the mix too).
Not only was this one of the best episodes but also Bella Ramsey’s greatest performance too as she gave it her all in those scenes, especially near the end. Hope she wins an Emmy because she’s killing it!
@@bmac6517 But fortunately the Emmys and other awards appreciate HBO and the show has had more drama than terror, if they do not nominate the show or any of the actors it will be an inconceivable robbery.
@@bmac6517 I've heard that Mike Flanagan might be looking at Pedro Pascal to play Roland the Gunslinger in his upcoming adaptation of Stephen Kings epic The Dark Tower series. Pedro would be perfect for the role. It's actually very similar to the role of Joel, the hard ass, lone wolf who takes in a cub and goes on a journey. In that sense, it's also pretty similar to his role on the Mandalorian. In the Mandalorian he's basically a space Gunslinger. I just hope that Pedro doesn't get typecast.
When he called her baby girl, I just cried. Yes, that's your baby. They're such a dad and daughter duo they can't fight the fact that they're family anymore. Bella's performance this episode was just incredible. What a talent!
Oh that freaking broke me but was simultaneously so satisfying. In a way it was more emotional than the game because she didn’t even have to say anything for him to have to say it. In the game she says he tried to… which presumably prompts him to say it. The only thing missing was the music.
I love when Joel hugged Ellie at the end and called her "baby girl". Shows how he sees Ellie sort of like Sarah. Also, Bella Ramsey has been playing human fear and shock so incredibly well. The thousand yard stare, the stiff body language, the seemingly involuntary vocal cry... it's such a realistic depiction of someone being traumatized over and over until they reach a breaking point.
It's frustrating seeing people compare Ellie to Sarah. She's not Sarah and Joel doesn't think of her as Sarah. He thinks of her as Ellie and loves her like a daughter, as Ellie. Ellie isn't a replacement.
@@casie6609 Yeah he doesn't see her like Sarah, Ellie is not a Sarah replacement for Joel, he will always miss her and think of her but he does see Ellie as another daughter and he's not losing another daughter.
Joel’s interrogation scene was adapted so well. You could tell how angry he was in the first game but Pedro really sells the anger and desperation Joel was feeling to get Ellie back.
I can't be the only one who felt really sad when Ellie was chopping that guy up. So much anguish in her cries, and she's only 14 😢 she's been through so much for someone her age.
You're definitely not, I teared up in that moment. I was devastated for her that David had put her through what he did, that he was about to do to her what he was, and that he forced Ellie to hack him to death to avoid it. Any remaining innocence in Ellie is now surely destroyed. David was a monster.
5:47 Ellie was covered in white ice at the start. Episode ends in a fiery of fire and red blood and death. End of innocence, as symbolized by the beautiful deer she shot for food, symbolic of the meaty sacrifice of the village. RIP beautiful horse.
When Joel Called Elle babygirl, I lost it. He had not called anyone baby girl since his daughter. Something broke inside elle, and hopefully she comes back from it. The dynamic between Joel and Elle is amazing.
since the start, bella ramsey has evidently, and effortlessly, proved just how phenomenal she is as ellie williams - every episode continues to prove that, and i truly and genuinely hope that ‘the last of us’ leads her to the emmy because she deserve it! ❤
Bella Ramsey is unbelievably talented. I had never heard of The Last of Us, until about a month before it aired. The reason I decided to watch it was because I loved Pedro and Bella in GoT’s. I wasn’t expecting much because I am not a gamer, but holy shit y’all! This is my favorite show of 2023, and now I’m depressed because it’s over until at least late 2024, early 2025. I see both Pedro and Bella bringing home some trophies for this show. Also the dude who played David was amazing also. He was amazing playing a creeper. His performance left me feeling so dirty I had to shower. When Joel called Ellie baby girl, it broke me, because he called Sarah that in episode one. I don’t want Ellie to save the world I just want her and Joel to live happily ever after.
I am not a gamer., I'm a HBO original programming fan. I knew I was going to watch this show back when I was watching House of the Dragons. I saw the image of the Clicker and I was all in. And I have not been disappointed. This show, is so good! Bella and Pedro took it to another level in this episode. Plus, Joel called Ellie, Baby Girl! 😭
@@msdurden1355 -- The finale is supposed to be 90 minutes and filled with infected. If the show has infected in every episode, it'll undermine them as a threat. If you've watched TWD, you might better know what I mean.
@@msdurden1355 it’s just enough for me as someone who hasn’t played the game. I know if I want to see more it’s a whole game out there to play. The big scene a few episodes ago was all I needed.

That's the importance of a good set up. They put everything in place for that scene to be so impactful! This show I swear! It is a masterclass in film making.
That smile she had last week was sweet, innocent, and beautiful. The look on her face this week was the absolute opposite. Brutal and horrific. I know the episodes are different and pretty much unrelated, but I could practically feel the pain of her losing Riley in each chop and scream. That pain and her love for Joel will make her even stronger as time goes on.
"Fuckin' Bella dude." My thoughts exactly. Bella CARRIED. Like I can't see any other young actor giving such a brilliant performance. Perfect Ellie in my eyes.
The last scene where Ellie realizes it's Joel... Bella was incredible. I watched that part 3 times and damn. I got tears and I don't think I do that easily. Those few seconds where she almost laughed while crying and screaming was insanely good job from her.
@@jacksonconley5117 before the show even aired, and even before principal photography, there were already shitty comments about her, like "I didn't know Ellie Downs," "Ellie is now ugly," and "A plane could land on her forehead." At that point, even though I only knew her from GOT, I wanted her to get nominated and hopefully win an Emmy just to shut those fuckers up. However, I'm not surprised she lost. The awards in Hollywood are basically a popularity contests, and since she doesn't have a big resume with only one standout performance, she wasn't going to get it.
I'm a nurse. To answer your question about the the antibiotics, too much antibiotics can make you more resistant to them in the future. Penicillin is the first antibiotic discovered and can treat a wide range of infections. Her giving him so much was overall a good thing because if he was in a hospital with that bad of an infection he'd be on heavy IV antibiotics. Injecting it directly into the wound is helping fight the infection directly at the site and getting the antibiotics into his system as a whole quickly. If she'd given him a shot in the arm, that would have still worked though. The only faster way would be through IV, which is unavailable in this situation.
@@dramaticundertones5889 To make a full recovery he would need 7-10 days of antibiotics at least twice a day. But antibiotics tend to make your body feel a lot better in the first 48-72 hours. That's what gave him the energy to fight off the men who came to that house. Gotta finish out the antibiotics for a full recovery.
This episode brings this other 'survival' mode we have. I resonated with Ellie so much, not as a 14-year-old girl but as a woman. So vulnerable. The position we encounter ourselves and her reactions and actions were SO real, the fear, anger, doing whatever you can to stay alive, being effin courageous even when she felt it was the end. Looking and even making resources out from wherever you can, even if they don't exist, you make them. I enjoyed seeing this Joel. And this breakthrough of Ellie, I kinda see a new version of Tessa coming to life. This ep was amazing

Love you guys thx for your videos :)))
appreciate it!!
Easily my favorite episode of the series. The performances was outstanding, savage joel is back and ellie with a badass yet traumatic experience. Im gonna miss this show
David was SO creepy every time he was on screen. Props to the actor, amazing performance
He really was compelling the whole time. I went back and forth a couple of times if he was genuine or not (though I was fairly certain he’d be the bad guy in the end). But this character and the actor were both phenomenal.
@@Liliganttt Joel's voice actor was actually David's henchman, of sorts, named James!
Troy Baker says it was incredibly hard for him not to break character and protect Ellie.
I can't even imagine how that must feel like. These actors are amazing.
for those who dont know, yes ellie killing david is at a first glance seen as a victory for ellie. we all cheered (yes even ppl who played the game) the reality however is that she is 14, a child basically, considering that david was about to assault her and ellie had to resort to kill him to defend herself is really sad. its sad that she even had to go through all of that in this episode and in the game. her innocence is lost regardless. which is really heartbreaking. it comes to show that even in a world like theirs, people like david unfortunately still exist. kudos to bella, her acting is fucking phenomenal.

YES it was like all my nightmares came true
Yeah, she definitely has scream queen quality screams.
Her screams are hauntingly realistic, I don't think I'm ready for how she's gonna portray Ellie in season 2

I find it darkly humorous that Ellie ends up killing the original Joel here...

@@John_Locke_108 facts dude
@@John_Locke_108 Cool.
Ellie on Joel violence.
I know people wanted Joel and Joel violence but that's not how it happens in the game.
@@joelmiller1995 I get it, but I mean of course they're going to change some things and skip scenes for character development for a show.
Bella's performance in the fire scenes was so perfect and so sad, her screams sounded much closer to a wail than a enraged fit. All I heard was the cry of a child when they're in distress and don't know what to do with the feelings. She's amazing.
They sounded desperate and panicked to me.

When Joel grabbed her and the way Ellie reacted seemed like a genuine trauma response. Absolutely heartbreaking and amazing acting

Also David: *eats a big heaping portion*
I noticed that too, everyone else had scraps for portions that they were trying to eat every bit of.
While the preacher had a meal big enough to be considered having seconds and still be full of food.
Fucking creep(the character obvious not the actor)
Amazing catch lol
As someone who hasn't played the game, as relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. That guy was a monster.
Overall, another great episode. Can't wait for the big finale and your reaction to it.
Yeah, a lot of people will be so busy cheering her on, they forget there's a price involve in taking a life. As any soldier who has seen action can attest!
Joel is the epitome of "I'm not stuck in here with you. You're stuck in here with me" vibes
3 and 7 were kinda meh to me

Fun Fact: The guy playing James in this episode is the real voice actor for Joel in the video game.
Joel's physical actions were mocapped from Troy so it's much more than just voice acting
No shit sherlock
I had to listen to his dialog again because , I swear, he used a little bit of game Joel voice in this performance. It's kinda funny too that live action Elie killed game Joel.
I knew that was Troy!
He must of really changed his voice to me more grizzly then for the game because I did not hear Joel’s voice from him.
Pretty good voice acting
Bella Ramsey is fantastic, her casting is perfect and I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
I'm convinced people who still cannot get behind the casting feel that way because they didn't get a more "attractive" actress to play a 14 year old and it really says a lot about them.
Initially, I had questions about her casting, but I have no doubts now, she is perfect.
Agreed!
Exactly. THIS is why she was casted as Ellie and fuck people who say otherwise.
I just love that Ellie does the one, simple thing that we ask of people in horror films: when you land that first strike, and the killer goes down, KEEP. HACKING. AWAY. Don’t flee until the job is done

She won't they don't respect horror for some reason because Mike Flannigan and his cast would have many Emmys.
Same, made it the whole episode and when that line hit instant tears 😢
Oh that freaking broke me but was simultaneously so satisfying. In a way it was more emotional than the game because she didn’t even have to say anything for him to have to say it. In the game she says he tried to… which presumably prompts him to say it. The only thing missing was the music.

@@disneytoysr4fun975 tf
I love when Joel hugged Ellie at the end and called her "baby girl". Shows how he sees Ellie sort of like Sarah.
Also, Bella Ramsey has been playing human fear and shock so incredibly well. The thousand yard stare, the stiff body language, the seemingly involuntary vocal cry... it's such a realistic depiction of someone being traumatized over and over until they reach a breaking point.
after that line "baby girl" their bond has been sealed. To Joel Ellie is Sarah.
It's frustrating seeing people compare Ellie to Sarah. She's not Sarah and Joel doesn't think of her as Sarah. He thinks of her as Ellie and loves her like a daughter, as Ellie. Ellie isn't a replacement.

Bella Ramsey is unbelievably talented. I had never heard of The Last of Us, until about a month before it aired. The reason I decided to watch it was because I loved Pedro and Bella in GoT’s. Oh same! That scene where Joel comes up behind her to the end is the one that’s sticking with me. And the last one with David.
That smile she had last week was sweet, innocent, and beautiful. The look on her face this week was the absolute opposite. Brutal and horrific.
Was his recovery realistic?
