Pro tip: program the rear command dial when pressed in to bring up the custom film sims. Then you can press it and use the same dial to scroll through all sims. There’s enough visible screen to see the effect of each sim quickly. Second pro tip: use the IQ menu to return every setting to zero or baseline and select the provia sim. . Save that to one of the custom sims and call it “reset”. That quickly gets you back to baseline..

You can do the tweaks in the Q Menu itself like increasing/decreasing highlights, shadows etc. and then long press the Q button. It will take you to straight into the Custom Settings saving options. There you can hit the Save Current Settings option. You won't have to dig deep into Menu>IQ>...
The advantage is you can real time see the changes while you're changing the settings. That's how I tweak and save recipes in my X100F.

I would say that recipes do help me be more creative in the moment - sometimes a recipe creates a photo where I thought there wasn't one - in camera, on site.
Maybe I'm just less able to visualise what I could do in post - so recipes help me in the moment.

Hey Booray, for some reason my comment wasn't added. I wrote i learned something new today, and if i had a Fuji camera i would certainly put those custom settings. I still enjoyed watching this video. Hope this comment goes through. Thanks Booray 😊📸

Whenever I get a new Fujifilm camera, body, the first thing I do is to save the settings, the way it came from the factory as the C1 custom setting. I usually label it factory settings.

Hi Booray, I typically enjoy your videos and I thought I would this one as well, however my first comment is that the title should be "How to BEGIN to create a Fuji Film Sim". When you started with how to begin, I was following along with my V and at 5:16 you said "if you haven't created any custom sims, this will be empty". I haven't created any, but I had a list of the film sims that came with the camera... so I guess it was "empty per se" in that there weren't any custom sims. Is that what you meant? Also, I'm not sure I followed your terminology regarding setting in the camera vs the "system" and the "default state". That was a bit confusing to me. Also, at 6:16 when I hit edit, I didn't get the list in the menu beginning WB through Clarity and wasn't able to locate it. Quite honestly, I was anticipating (hoping) that when you got to this point, you'd say... "great, now let me show you how this is done", since in my mind that would be the "creation" of a film sim. Anyway, I know there are other YT videos that could do that, however I'm still working with those in camera, but because you brought it up, I thought, great idea. Looking forward to your feedback.

    Welcome to the cult!
I’ve found white balance doesn’t change when using the ‘Q’ button to change sims/recipes unless I change to a black and white sim/recipe first.

That doesn't happen for me. When i change to a sim that has a set WB it changes to that WB

Best way to handle Film Sims is to use FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO. You can create, modify sims using the comfort of your computer.
It would be fantastic if Fuji would allow us to REPLACE some of the built-in sims. I never use the monochrom or sepia sims. That's 5 of my own I could have instead. We wouldn't have to give up one of the precious custom settings just to have a film sim. We could use them the same way we use the built-in ones, simply select it.
If using Fujifilm X RAW Studio, it could be very easy to reset or replace your sim with the original if needed. Factory reset would also reset any custom sims to the original..

@@BoorayPerry Do you or anyone you know have a line to Fujifilm? Please pass this idea along. Maybe they, too, will think it's a good enough idea to put in the next FW update:)

@@BoorayPerry Just watching your "How are Fuji Cameras DIFFERENT?" video. The X-S20 has an 'auto' mode where the camera does everything, including AF. One sees icons of landscape, macro, faces etc, but only in auto mode. It's Fuji's best implementation of all-around AF.
It would be great if we had all of that in every mode, but having the choice to specify *if needed or desired.* In other modes we have to specify anyway; this or nothing. We even have to chose between face and subject detection. In auto mode we don't have to.
I'm hoping to get a line to Fuji somehow to ask about these possible improvements.
