    The school lost its way and mind after the NCAA sanctions. They hired ADs with zero experience such as Lynn Swann and Pat Hayden and awarded contracts to fools like Clay Helton. It wasn’t until 3 years ago that the administration realized that SC’s identity is football royalty. Give Riley 2 years and check back up on whether SC is back on top of the heap. Remember Michigan hadn’t won a national title in over 25 years prior to this season.
    If the school had fought harder and Pete never left, no way Saban gets 7 titles. College football would look really different. Everyone was looking for a way to knock down SC during the Carroll years.

      correct, the sanctions absolutely broke USC, and their administration made all the wrong decisions coming out of it. started with the sanctions and usc dug itself in a deeper and deeper hole.

      letting the ncaa drop the hammer on sc was another bit of larry scott's brilliant "leadership"; everyone who let that happen, from ad to the board, can go pound sand.

      Lost its way? Clay Helton is one of many examples of lazy coaching hires or promoting anyone with USC ties. That has a history dating to before even John McKay. Lincoln Riley is USC’s best nationally acclaimed hire since who, Howard Jones? John McKay was a little known assistant coach, same with John Robinson, and Pete Carroll was a NFL retread. Before Helton there was Tolner, JR II, & Hackett. Like someone before me said here, before Haden there was Mike Garrett who stumbled into Pete Carroll.

      The university gave up on the football team due to the embarrassment of the Carroll era scandals, compounded by the athletic department as a whole being rife with corruption, leading to criminal convictions.

    I think it needs to be said, I feel Jen Cohen, the AD is not getting enough credit. I really believe she is pulling these strings behind the scenes because she is no nonsense. I have a feeling she made things very clear for Riley with Grinch and defense. I say that because the moves that have been madez the salaries and the focus on defense is something Riley has never done. This staff that was put together and the aggressiveness in which they did it, sounds more like Jen than Riley "Mr. Trained Eyes". To which I am so thankful she was hired.

    BEFORE WE SPEAK of Dynasty CAN WE let USC be even making a Playoff. That said O SEE them trending in an absolute positive direction. As a avid follower of USC football LINCOLN RILEY had to get smacked sonhard that he woke up to this reality. In retrospect a bad season was the best thing to happen with the TROJANS Can you imagine living in a perpetual 10-11 win season and not winning the chip.

    As a USC fan i think we will be 8-4 at best next year. I'm setting my expectations low, because USC can't seem to stop destroying my expectations in a bad way. At the start of 2023, I thought we could win it all, and we went 7-5. I would never have imagined losing more than 3 games

    • @Archangel3083
      @Archangel3083 7 месяцев назад

      How could you possibly think that with the defense you didn’t have and the second half schedule you had. Begging of the season I thought you would drop 2 games at least down the stretch and you exceeded my expectations.

      @@Archangel3083 hope, it's called hope. I was filled with hope at the start of the 2023 season. I thought the defense would be better. But I should have known better. USC has only accomplished two things in the past 15 years, underachieving and disappointing their fans, including me. I'm still gonna always be a fan, but I'm also gonna be realistic starting now since my hopes have been destroyed every year. It's the hope that kills you is what I've been told.

    Leinert is trying to set low expectations for this coming year. I really dont think Caleb was positive for this team. It is all a question of the offensive line, can they develop the young guys well enough? I see the offense under Moss or Maiava being more consistent than under Caleb.

    Not without a real D and a running game. CLR only paid lip service to both until he was forced to fix the D this off season. But time will tell if that translates into performance Holiday Bowl showed tackling was possible again. But I don't see him doing much about getting a run game.

    I really don't see USC winning 7 consecutive Big 10 conference championships. I don't even see Georgia winning like four or five straight SEC championships... USC could compete for some... Maybe even when a Natty. But I see no reason to favor them in particular over quite a few other established and up and coming teams in the coming years. The tangible goal for them next season is to try to make the playoffs.

  • @WhoTFisPaulFinebaum

    What is your definition of "build a team?" Do you mean pay players like you, and the SEC have for years? Do you mean ask kids to join your team because of coaching expertise and a team culture? Everyone else is buying players left and right, what are you going to do?
