This show would be so much better if they could show footage.
That era of USC was unbelievable. That's the last time I enjoyed USC. I remember watching that last snap in the SC/ND game and it was one of the more elated feelings I had watching a team beat another. Had that Warrick Dunn long run on Florida back in the 90's. Just epic.
As an ND fan, the bush push killed me, years later when ND starting beating USC regularly it still didn't matter as much, that was the team to beat, not when they were in their down years. Still stings lol

i was at this game, in the end zone where usc scored. having attended seven usc BCS games, games at ohio state, va. tech, golf majors, nba title games, tons of ufc fights, etc. this is still my single favorite sporting event ever attended. fight on.

Those SC teams were nuts. Reggie Bush is the best CFB player i have ever seen. He was must see tv and im in the midwest. We had to stay up until 2:00am to watch the SC games.

You need Vince Young and Reggie Bush to be there for that rewind of the Rose Bowl. I got to meet Vince Young a few months back and I had him sign a 8x10 picture of the play were he takes it in to win the game. He told me that he came into that game pissed off and played with a chip on his shoulder because he lost out to Reggie Bush for the Heisman trophy. His tone of voice sounded like he still mad about it. Lol.
He's fortunate USC's defense was beat up, missing starters at the end of that season otherwise USC wins handily.

Gotta say, i grew up despising those USC teams...but this has turned my feelings about Matt Leinart. He's a true football guy. Loved it. Can't wait for you guys to get together again.

I think a great episode would be the 13 seconds game with the Chiefs beating the Bills in the AFC Divisional Playoff game on January 23, 2022. It was a hell of a game. And the man you gotta bring on has got to be Patrick Mahomes. This episode would kill! And the infamous name of “13 Seconds” speaks for itself.

The era that made me love collegiate football
Julian, great show. Matt, you probably have seen..... but if not you would have loved even your SC rival ASU beating Notre Dame in 2014 at Sun Devil Stadium 55-31. That was a big deal hereabouts and the place was rockin' like seldom in recent decades. ASU absolutely smoked them in the first half, but fell asleep and "took their foot off the pedal" as you say in the 3rd quarter, letting Notre Dame back in (ND waking up too I should credit!) to make it uncomfortably close for a while, but the Sun Devils prevailed.
I would watch USC just to hope to catch a Reggie Bush highlight live. He was soooo much fun to watch.
You guys should do the games between University of Miami vs FSU. The "wide right" and the other missed field goal games that made it crazy.
Miami, USC, Ohio, Texas, Alabama, LSU. Gave me so many good menories and heartbreaks. 98-2008 was my favorire years for college football. edit forgot FSU and UF

Accurate about Adam 'Pacman' Jones running a laser timed 4.515 second 40 last summer (7/7/23) on McAfee's show. And it wasn't even optimal conditions (no blocks, hat flew off, 'flat' segment of parking lot)! Note this was 2-mos before his 40th birthday! Compared to 4.42 while in the NFL (He didn't do the combine, but had 4.38 on his Pro Day.).

Jules talking about looking at them like pros when he was the same age is crazy cause he had a better pro career than any of em. Rlly shows you where peaks and perseverance matters in sports.
The way he describes his time at USC, what they did, how they played, what they played for, the camaraderie, the lifestyle. Emotionally, the guy had basically lived the best moments a football player has ever hoped for. Yes it was not NFL money; but they were doing pretty good for a kid their age. So there is no way that dude was going to the dump Arizona Cardinals was at that moment and find that magic again. And that is a very common thing for college successful athletes. It’s not a general rule though (Jordan and others); but it is common. Look at Edelman, and even Brady, he had none of that in college; so he had to fight for it in the pros.

Matt, I'm a diehard Notre Dame fan, and I still hate you (as a football player) to this day lol. The push WAS illegal, and the Ref's should've thrown the flag, just like James Bradberry got called for that picky hold in the Superbowl against the Chiefs at the end of the game. I'm a Die Hard Eagles fan, and suffered THAT call. Thank God Texas beat you guys that year..best National Championship game I ever saw.
Sad to say but thats why mat passed up MILLIONS in the 05 draft he wanted to come back for the limelight and not focus on his career. He was too busy being a socialite.
