    I'm right there with you benjie...
    I used to trout fish as a kid with my dad and other family members, and I'm getting back into it this season after only fishing for bass the last decade..
    Thanks for another great video!
    Should actually help in my quest to land a landlocked salmon as most people around here fish for them the same way they would lake trout..

      Good luck on the salmon bro, I KNOW you'll get it with some time on the water!!

    My brother loved MXPX. The only Tooth and Nail band I got into was The Crucified.

      @BenjieKimFishing  3 года назад

      Awesome man, The Crucified was definitely trend setters for that early scene. I didn't listen to them a whole lot as they were slightly before my time, but I did appreciate Mark Salomon in Stavesacre.

    Another good video Benjie. Getting me amped up to take my son up to the sierra this summer. Never tried the mini jig technique before. I’ll add some to my trout kit.
    Up in the Sierras don’t forget the fly and bubble. I don’t know how that would work locally though.

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Steve! I agree, the bubble and fly is deadly. At the local ponds, when they aren't biting anything else (including power bait and mouse tails), the bubble and fly absolutely slays.
      I grew up going to Bishop as a kid and I'm hoping to go back this year!

      @@BenjieKimFishing I proposed to my wife at one of the lakes up there. Had a handmade trout lure that had “will you marry me” imprinted on it. I removed the hook and had her cast it for a while. I joked about how she wasn’t catching anything and asked her to bring the lure in and read it. Jimmy did a video at the same lake. Been going there since I was a little kid with my grandpa and we brought our son up for the first time last year. Holds a special place in my heart for many reasons.

    Hey this was a great informative video for socal fishing. I have a question...you guys mentioned in the video about sometimes having trouble getting lighter baits/jigs to cast far. Can you suggest a type of rod/reel that would help cast further, or is it all about line thickness? Whenever I try to cast something less than 1/4oz, it barely goes anywhere!

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 года назад

      For casting light applications, try a small reel (1k), ultralight rod, and 2 pound test. So yes, line thickness is a big part of the equation. Doesn't have to be expensive gear to cast far, just gotta match up your gear to your application. Hope that helps.

    Do roostertail spinners not work in Cali? In Oregon it seems almost universal people are catching trout on rooster spinners if they aren't using powerbait.

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 года назад

      Oh absolutely they work here along with panther martins, kastmasters, super dupers, and other oldie but goodies.
      But I will say that mini jigging and the drop shot are the rage here in SoCal. Not necessarily better per se, but definitely really popular lately. With mini jigging, my experience is that it can be a bit of a grind to get bit but its REALLY fun when it works out!

    4# any mono
    #10 any Hook
    2 small splitshot 3' from the Hook.
    Apply literally anything fingernail size that floats.
    Cast. Slow retrieve. Catch.

    • @BenjieKimFishing

      Hi Tyler, yes I go super light with my trout stuff. For the c-rig I'm usually on 4 pound test with accompanying rod/reel to match.

    Lol, evoking the image of a dying pet store fish. Very instructive, though. He sure knows Cali trout fishing, and fishing in general. I put inflated nightcrawlers high on the list for trout-catching ability, but maybe the inflating process isn't for total beginners.

    • @BenjieKimFishing
      @BenjieKimFishing  3 года назад

      Anthony is a great teacher which is why I'm grateful that he's willing to do these videos with me. And I agree, inflated crawlers will truly get em! These are just the 3 that Anthony and I agreed on talking about, its just our opinion, but other methods are certainly viable and/or even better...especially if you consider what their eating that day.
      Just a heads up, I have 1 more trout video and then its back to the surf! I already have footage for one!

    Sav-On Tackle: you guys seem really knowledgeable and appear to have a lot of cool fishing stock, but your on-line presence is lacking. Try to find someone who can develop an on-line store for you. I would definitely order from you, but I'm not driving out to Sante Fe Springs sorry.

    Everyone should stay away from ultra light heavyweight stuff. Garbage quality and garbage support.
