Thx for your thorough review. I’ve been looking at these on Amazon and almost pulled the trigger on one last night until I visited the Ecoflow website. I found that the Ecoflow sells them cheaper. I just purchased the EcoFlow Delta 3+ w/ the 220w solar panel off their website for $961. On Amazon it would have cost me $1062! I noticed w/in a few hours the shipping date changed from late Oct/early Nov to late Nov/early Dec. In the midst of all these storms, seems like everyone is grabbing one.
I appreciate these types of videos very much. I am still trying to understand the whole solar power concept and how all of these things work. Your videos and worksheets are very helpful.
Yes indeed! Kris is a very good teacher. I just got into this crazy solar world about a year ago myself. By watching his videos, I learned how to build my own unit ( for about $700) that would be equivalent to a $1000 ready made unit. Good luck and have fun!
The fridge pulling 600 watts was most likely running the defrost process. It only does that every now and then. My older fridge does that same thing but it only runs the heaters for a couple minutes. You just got lucky with your timing. Usually compressor draw will be around 100-150 watts when running.
I'm glad I just read your post Jason. About 3 weeks ago, I had my kil-o-watt meter inline with my fridge and was shocked when I saw it pulling 495 watts! I'd never seen it over 120 before, normally around 105. I thought something must either be wrong with the fridge or the solgen. The next day, the voltage was back down to normal and for some reason I never thought about the defrost cycle!
That's good to know, Jason! I was told by a refrigeration mechanic that the new ones draw heat from the compressor for the defrost. I don't know how to verify that.
I rent a small space in my landlord’s basement. I own 4 eco flow generators. Different sizes. I’m the kind of person who benefits from this kind of solar power because the house isn’t mine but I’m good to go with my eco flows! I’m a senior and I can only drag/carry so much weight! I’m secure with what I have. They easily take care of my 2 refrigerators, my freezer that houses my ice for my Icy Breeze air conditioner and as lil the rest of my needs. These generators are great for someone like me.
I think one of the issues is that people don't grasp these devices are a stop-gap measure, unless you can afford to go 'whole system' solar. Trying to limp along with them is fine, but solar panels, again, depend on a number of factors: peak solar vs the rest of the day, shade, clouds, what have you. Yes, they're much better than no power at all. But often the marketing is misleading. You're not going to be able to toss down a solar panel, and have this recharged in anything less than 'quite a while'. And it will be depleted much faster than most understand. I think everyone who can afford them should have them, because again, it beats no power at all. But for most of us, don't expect it to replace grid power. But if one does understand that, and doesn't waste power using them, it's another level of comfort, or need, in the case of medical equipment being powered. I do like the fact they're offering natural gas backup measures. But again, there's a limit to it. Straight gasoline generators go through fuel faster than many realize, as well. I have Ecoflow and another brand's solar generators, and they've gotten me through a couple 'grid down' events. But long term, I'd be hurting if my life depended on 'em.
I believe most people who have them or are even considering them do consider those factors. I'm sure SOME blind buy and are uninformed from those simply making money promoting them.
You have to spend well into five figures to replace grid power. My off-grid set up would definitely get me through a bad situation. Besides, energy independence is just plain liberating.
I have the bluetti ac300 and two of their batteries. I live off grid in around 500sq ft. You’re right but there’s other small things… I have 3, 400 watt panels and have more than enough. My fridge is a 10cf fridge like an apartment fridge but has space. I replaced all my tools with the ryobi one+ so I charge about 8 batteries for them when the sun is in excess but can run my tools and stuff without depleting the bluetti. My 3 panels are on the ecoworthy solar tracker so it’s peak sun most of the time since it follows. I have no grid power at my homestead it was the little changes line the tools and fridge and stuff that make it work.
@durgan5668 - Absolutely! I have a Yeti 1250 (Goal Zero) that I purchased a decade ago, thinking the solar panels would recharge at a similar rate that energy was being used 😆! I was shocked that it took 2-3 DAYS to fully recharge in full sun (with nothing pulling power/plugged in)! I live in an area where our power goes off at least once a month, so I bought a gas generator for running things that pull more watts, and only use my solar generator for recharging electronic gadgets. Solar marketing is very deceptive, but at least Kris explains the limitations better than they do!
Just wanted to say thanks for this review. I just snagged one of each from Amazon on their early prime day deals. Looking forward to getting them delivered.
Continuous Tech innovation and improvements is what is expected from manufacturers if they want to stay competitive! Unfortunately, consumers are always caught up in the “should i buy now or wait for the next model” dilemma!
In my experience (which is not a lot) sticking to the solar input voltage range is more important than the amps. I have a River 2 (which takes 110 watts solar). I always use my 240 watt panels and the unit limits the charge to 110 watts (or 8 amps). I think (I’m not qualified to think in the case) an MPPT is smart enough to work within its “amp” range. With this said, I hope EcoFlow does not read your comment in case I burn my River 2 😅
Very nice unit🤩!!! I like the Delta Pro too, I like that these different generators can pair up together. Tell that company to send me some, I’ll review them and put them to the maximum test!😅
You need to remember one thing with the generator and the unit. If the demand on the delta pro 3 is higher then what the generator and can provide, then you won’t be charging the Delta. You will be just slowing down the drain, until the battery drains out. The same thing will happen with solar, if the demand is higher then what you are getting from solar. Remember to keep that in mind
I think you should have tested the jackery 1000 v2 to make it a fair comparison. The plus may not have ups but it has 250w/h extra and yes, the v2 is not expandable. Just some food for thought. Thx for the content. I do appreciate it.

Hey Kris, thank you VERY much for doing this. Some of us just don't have the time or resources to really figure out what works and what doesn't when it comes to this new battery backup tech. I've watched most of your videos and after the Best Solar Generator for 2024 video I was decided on getting the Delta II Max. I was planning to pair it with the EcoFlow generator and a couple panels. Your review of this new unit almost makes me want to use it with the generator instead of the Delta II Max. Can you share your thoughts on this?
Do you have recommendations how to protect these batteries from EMP or Solar Flares? I have been looking for a faraday cloth or blanket to cover mine up when not using. If you have a video on this would love to hear your thoughts!
Use case examples of the smart feature being meaningful: The power is out and I want to make a loaf of bread. My bread maker needs to sit for 1h+ to let the dough rise. Other units will turn themselves off in this time to conserve battery. Bread wasted. You can adjust this setting and make bread with an electric bread maker in a field.
Good video Kriss and team. I appreciate your data focused approach. I did notice that the larger units such as EcoFlow, large Zendure etc. are not listed on your spreadsheet. Is that because they are larger systems?
Kris what are your thoughts on "extreme" events....such as killing the internet or back door off switch to cell phones (we know this exists)? One of the reasons I went with 2 Aferiy's (besides a killer price/ free shipping at the time) was because it wasn't dependent on a phone interface.
Thanks for the video and the review. I have some questions in my mind about this Delta 3 Plus unit. I would like to use this device for my home network and security cameras as a UPS, but I also would like to use solar panels with it. So mainly I would like to use it is kinda off grid, but if the battery drops below like 20%, I want to switch back to AC (to preserve that 20% for UPS purposes), and use that till the sun rises up again. It is possible to do with this unit?
Haha.... information overload. I need to print this out to decide which one is best for Fridge, portable AC or Heat, and a light. Need total price with solar panels (and how many solar panels are needed.). But great video
Do these units work WITHOUT a cell phone/bluetooth - ie ol' fashion manual set up? If the grid goes down, even with my solar powered charges for my cell phone - no satellites - no wi fi, bluetooth to communicate with a power source - am I right or wrong in this thought?
I understand that the EcoFlow Delta 3 can remember to turn on the AC ports if you were connected to a Fridge and it accidentally turned off after using all of the battery capacity. So when power turn on again and start charging the unit the AC ports turn on again to start running the fridge. Would you please confirm this?
I really want to add a solar generator for my fridge during power outages -but I don't get how to set this up. If I put the solar panels in the driveway and the unit is in the house next to my fridge, I run long cables from the solar panels to the unit?? If I'm out for days in a row, I want it charging all the time. I need a resource for a real step by step set up.
Neither Bluetooth nor wifi require the internet to function. But in the hypothetical scenario in which your cell phone and wireless router are both destroyed and yet your power station miraculously survives, then I guess you could just press the buttons on the powerstation like some sort of hairy luddite barbarian.

Easy. Just multiply them 12x100 is 1200wHr Amp hours are useful, but often misleading because the actual amount of energy can be misrepresented based on the voltage chosen to measure at. (specifically multi-cell batteries and not using the overall pack voltage)
I really want a solar generator that could just power a full size fridge and a wall unit air conditioner but it's way too complicated to understand what kind of unit I would need. 😖
My D2M easily powers both my small freezer and fridge for around 27 hrs with no recharge. If I connect my 2x 110watt panels, I can run them almost forever depending the sun, etc.
I hope you can help me, I am 80 years old and my math skills are lacking. I have a window air conditioning unit 10,000 btu snd 7.5 amps and 900 watts. How long will the new Delta 3 1800 watts run the air conditioning unit? We have a possible hurricane headed to us in Florida.
