    I have one of each also. The authentic one definitely has a better feel in the hand but overall would be hard for someone without knowledge to buy a fake without even knowing. Excellent video btw and thanks for taking them completely apart for comparison! Hadn't seen that done yet.

    Have to say it - at $5 vs $190 i am 100% always going to prefer 38 pocket knives to 1 at that ratio I'm not really concerned about resharpening or the quality of steel

    Just picked one up as a little experiment. Manufacturers wised up a bit:
    The box I got was similar to the real one here. The knife also had copper washers instead of the plastic one. And the manual was folded more like the real one. The hardware towards the clip was colored like the real one. And it came with a little Axis card.
    The standouts tho were that the knife was just seated on top of a foam platform, not nestled in a cutout made for it. The stopper was still black. The manual was messily folded and did not line up with the seams. The S30V print was farther from the thumb stud like the fake one here. And the R next to the butterfly was bigger like the fake one here.
    Oh, and the spring was trash-does not flick all the way open at all.
    For ten bucks, not bad. Still cuts like any other knife. Will definitely make a nice prank on my knife snob friend.

    I wish there was a way to see exactly what metal the clone is made up of. I know it can be done, but it's probably expensive to do so. I'm still curious though.

    30 bones for a working axis lock? Not bad. Would it curious what the heat treat and the steel is.

    $180 Real vs Fake $17.00 and almost the same not sue why the original cost $180.00 ??max $80.00

      Maybe bc it's made in USA where people like u argue for 20 dollar minimum wage. Fr though every material on it is better. The handles are stronger, more expensive plastic, the springs are stronger, longer lasting spring steel, the blades are quality steel that takes 10x as long to cut, heat treat, test the heat treat, which had to be done properly, and then grind. Marketing cost millions of dollars. Also they spent months of research and millions of dollars actually designing the thing, opposed to copyimg and stealing someone elses work. Sure they're a little over priced, but literally everything is. And 80 dollars max? You have no idea the work involved to create, manufacture, and then sell a knife. How do you come up with 80? Why not 70 or 90? You just blurted out a random number you think it should be, having never made a knife in your life. Have you ever made anything with steel? It's difficult.

      @@Trolldaddy5If they sell the fake for 10bucks, fir sure 80 bucks for original is not cheap. You just can't justify 10x district in price only through quality. Let's decrease the profit margins...

    I just stumbled across your video, great content. Do you know if aftermarket scales will if on a Bugout clone?

      @AlphaWolfKNW  Год назад

      I believe they will, the sizes are pretty much identical. I haven't tried, but the screw placement, and size looks exact.

      I tried with flytaniuns. All of the screw sizes on the fake are smaller by about 1/2mm

    Great vídeo, thanks for you work. What’s your opinion about the steel in the clone version? Sure it’s not s35, but your opinion as a knife tester and collector is appreciated!!

    • @AlphaWolfKNW
      @AlphaWolfKNW  Год назад +1

      The clone version dulls 2x as fast. Sad because I honestly like the clone. If it were made with even slightly better steel it would be the ultimate bargain. If you don't use the knife everyday I'd say get one. Not many people can tell the difference at first glance, and they feel just about the same. Scary how good these replicas are getting. If they just improve the blade steel they would be the ultimate threat to knife makers.

      They look, and feel good. Light weight etc. They just don't hold an edge like the real one. But still way better than some blades of the same price.

    I would buy a fake all day long...I'm not paying 150$ for any knife...besides you can't actually use it if it gets lost or damaged or even stolen it would be devastating...a clone you can replace and not hurt...benchmade is an inflated brand and I'm not biting...sorry
