It's just charts and stuff to roll up random quests and NPCs, so it can be played any way you would want to, so long as everyone at the table agrees to go with the flow.
Ty ty so much for this episode and mentioning the Dungeon Degenerates solo RPG Zine on BGG - Went straight there and got it 🥰 I love everything about Dungeon Degenerates - The lore, the characters and NPCs, and the art is just stellar 🥰 Ive wanted to RP in the Dungeon Degenerates world for a long time - This episode just made that possible and easier 🥰 Ty ty so much 🥰
Super glad you enjoy the solo zine! I actually got the idea watching your original DD videos. The arts and lore of DD is so good that I wanted to utilise the components in different ways and get more value out of this beautiful game. I also really love how you came up with ways of using the clue, epic monster tokens and the other cards to build quests. You made it look easy, but I think it is proof of decades of board game playing experience 😂
For as popular as this game seems, I'm surprised we haven't seen more games that attempt to iterate on Dungeon Degenerates' design. Unfortunately I'm just not into this style of art, but I keep hoping that another game will eventually come along that plays in the same ballpark as DD but with different art. For now Hexplore It is my go-to for overland adventure and I really do like that series, but I still feel like DD has a certain quality to it that other recent adventure games have yet to re-create.
It really does push the boundaries of the overland adventure game into new levels. I would LOVE to see a more traditionally fantasy version of DD. They could license the game design, and I'd be totally down with that.
I’m 100% with you. I’m right along side you, want a true dynamic open world adventure and have been tempted by Daniel so many times, but just can’t get over the art and theme. I can’t pull myself to want to adventure in a world I find thematically aversive. I have almost picked it up just to see how they do the systems though and I agree I wish they or someone else would make another version or a copycat with a more over the plate fantasy theme. Also with you on Hexplore It (with the campaign books for more lore/narrative), curious what some of your other top ones are. I also have Zerywia and Foklore: The Affliction (with some tweaks) up there as well.
They have all the components for an amazing sandbox runebound style game here. I'm so surprised there hasnt been an official ruleset for this style of play. But also super happy others have!
Oh man, your video seriously is making me want to get this game back to the table asap. There’s nothing else like it that exists. I’m so jazzed about all the new encounters and missions waiting to be delivered.
@@TheDungeonDive I'm eager to see what they are like! That could be cool but probably not good for one shot games. I dig this approach you came up using the solo zine that Melv made. I'd be interested seeing you cover at some point his rules for turning 'Fallen' rpg into a board game which is kind of the opposite of what he did with Dungeon Degenerates.
@@TheDungeonDive I only superficially dove into it and didn’t try it out. I was intrigued by having a clear structure of play but I see what you mean. I need to look at it again myself.
not sure why i can't reply to your reply @TheDungeonDive. The standees are excellent but the minis have managed to match them. The fully painted sets that I've seen are just incredible. I wish I had the money to pick up a pro painted set.
A game with a ton of great parts that has one little thing preventing me from getting it to the table... well the first game that came to mind is Fallout The Board Game! The end condition and point scoring takes away from the questing and exploration.
I think “Goblinko” is pronounced “Goblin Co” like Goblin Company. I could be wrong. I love the idea of Dungeon Degenerates and had fun the few times I played it. But for me, the worst part of the game was the combat. It just didn’t interest me at all. It’s so fiddly for what could be any type of combat system. Missions and art are great.
It is pronounced GOBLIN KO, but people pronounced it as GO BLINKO for years & we didn’t correct them because it was cute, also people never pronounced my last name correctly either. They always said A BERG.
Very different games, and not bloated at all. It’s actually a very elegantly designed game with a lot of character and nuance. Both great, but this is really on a whole other level.
I wouldn't say it's sad, just something that's not to your tastes. And that's totally fine. When things are bold and unique they often don't appeal to everyone. There are definitely games I pass by because of how they look!
Dungeon Degenerates solo RPG Zine on BGG:
boardgamegeek.com/filepage/226728/dungeon-degenerates-rpg-booklet
can this zine be played coop as well with multiple heroes?

Great video - there can never be enough Hand of Doom on the Dungeon Dive.
Great ideas!!! My brain is churning...

Our powers combined! ;)
You should released these sandbox rules as a small pdf on BGG, Daniel!
I do not have the time to compile and type them out. This will have to do. :)

awesome ideas in here! really enjoy how you continue to push utility from your "inventory" of games. you are creating a world of gaming. so cool
I found this channel because of Dungeon Degenerates and got into this game because of the Dungeon Dive

The new mission books sound totally intense. I saw a diagram of the flow of missions, and it looked like pile of wet noodles!

I couldn't quite grasp those rules for the Fallen board game that he made. Need to revisit them to see if they've been updated.

@@TheDungeonDive I need to revisit it when I have a bit of time. Definitely need some clean up now looking with fresh eyes!
Perfect timing.... I've been wanting to get it for a while and I think now's the time.
This is brilliant, thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Daniel! Picked this gem up and some extras for half off from their site!
Enjoy!
Thank you for making a great video for a great game!!
My pleasure!
Very nice video, thanks!
I see this board, all I see is Mork Borg 😂thanks for the vid!
I thought the same! Instant buy for me!
Great video! would love to hear your thoughts on the new mission books if you purchased them!
I did, and I will. :)
Where can I get one of those card holders? That seems beyond useful for dungeon degenerates
Amazon. Hold It.
Do you think it's possible to play Fallen Land in a similar fashion? As a solo TTRPG?
Also, this is a fantastic video! Great concept for Dungeon Degenerates.
Most definitely. And it's already a big sandbox, so not even a stretch to make it work.
Hi Daniel, great video! OOT, are you by any chance going to review The Wolves of Langston? Thanks!
Thanks! I don’t know what that is. ;)
I'm picking this up one day. I really would love for the mini's to be more affordable :(
The standees look so good though, because the art and color match the game.

That's why they expansions are completely necessary for Fallout.

Missions and art are great.
Interesting! It’s probably my favorite combat in any game. Love how the dice determine everything in a single roll.
It is pronounced GOBLIN KO, but people pronounced it as GO BLINKO for years & we didn’t correct them because it was cute, also people never pronounced my last name correctly either. They always said A BERG.
I always get your last name mixed up with my favorite scotch, Ardbeg. ;)
It reminds me of a bloated Search for the emperor's treasure.

Sean Aaberg still hasn't made a full recovery :(
I know. It's so sad. I can't even imagine what he must feel like.
I feel fine, I'm probably not going to make a full recovery.@@TheDungeonDive
I hear that, Sean. Thanks for chiming in. :)
@@GOBLINKOGOBLINKO Bro, best wishes to you and your family!

Yes - I know. This has been discussed. thanks!
It's sad such a great game such awful (imo) artwork... gives me a headache just watching this video.

Hi - I really want to send you a copy of my new game but can’t seem to find your email address in the info section!
It's on the about tab - click the little arrow next to the channel description to open the tab.
