At 24:00 minutes, you say the facing of the flashing should extend >5" above the ledger. I can't seem to find flashing of this dimension at big box stores, nor do I have a metal brake. Any tips for a DIY homeowner looking for the right size flashing?
Great video guys - just a few questions from a DIY guy as I watch this, thinking about my own deck project: 1) 19:25 - Is it true that you can't put metal flashing over pressure treated lumber due to the chemicals in the lumber reacting with the metal? 2) 34:09 - If you space the ledger board, it seems like the ledger board isn't fastened as securely to the house. From a flashing perspective (say structurally it's ok), is this superior than putting the ledger flat against the house and flashing over the ledger?
I tried scoring the backside of the paper. Like you suggested. Great idea. Extremely difficult not to cut through the rubber membrane that’s 1/32”. Menards product. Resisto from Home Depot is thicker and has a plastic release film that doesn’t come off in little pieces Good luck not cutting through the membrane!
Ok, if using the hockey pucks and I heard that you can use cap flashing over the top. What about the bottom of the ledger board! Im using zip sheathing with rain screen and lp smart siding. Also, can I use zip flashing tape as a flashing behind my ledger board? If so I would install in a shingle flashing. Great video with educational content, looking forward to the next video! 👍🏻
Only if deck contractors would actually follow this. What a great resource!!!
Thanks for another great video! Mike Guertin the best when it comes to this stuff!

This is awesome. I am wondering what do you do when install flashing for brick wall? There are brick veneers, do you seal them using sealer?
What gap size do you need for the stone veneer/stucco weep screed to the deck?

Good luck with the spacers. My inspector never seen them before and refused to look up information on them.
Why didn’t you look up the information, and present it to the inspector?
Do you prefer spaced or non-spaced ledger board attachment?
can a ledger board be two boards thick? problem is i have 1" 1/2 styrofoam on my exterior walls. need to get out past that for deck boards.
Does flashing get cut and bent under the door threshold?
2" on cedar looks like crap.
