How To Layout like a PRO with String and Batter Boards

  • I wanted to create a video someone could watch and simply learn how to layout like a pro with string and a set of batter boards. If you follow my easy steps, you will have your layout done in no time. I also think you will like my efficient use of one batter board instead of two...It's easier and quicker. Bust this out and look like a pro next time!
If anyone knows the name of the knot in the video let me know. I am curious what it is called

For me, the ideas in ruclips.net/user/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

This is a gold mine of information!! On a previous project me and my younger brother were to put up a lean-to shade area next to our barn and in our attempts to make the square posts straight and equidistant all around was almost impossible and we barely managed to make it square...
    B U T!
After watching this video and going step by step we have flawlessly thrown up 8 posts for another shade project and it’s such a relief to have this kind of video for help. You definitely deserve a Nobel prize for this masterpiece of a video

I remember back in 89 going over this with the head of our survey department at Burgess and Niple as a new hire. I think we did 4 or 5 practice layouts before going out to a job site. He didn't want anyone using the laser layout system who couldn't do a manual layout. Batteries on that old equipment would always die when you needed it the most. Those ni-cad bricks weighed a ton when you had to make sure you had enough power for a full day. Great video

Very timely find for me. I just picked up a 70 x 30 shelter kit from an auction yesterday (12/29/2022), and I would like to mount the support posts on Sonotubes. I am looking forward to learning exactly where and how to place those tubes and posts; pre-fabricated steel isn't nearly as forgiving as wood. This channel is THE best instructional place for us unranked amateurs to learn how to do it. Thanks for making these videos!

I’m from Philippines and I used to work as an aircraft technician, we use imperial like everywhere and anything and to be honest until now it still hurts my brain computing or even by just listening to you but then after I arrived here in Australia and work as a carpenter and holy sheeet everything is changed, it’s like first grade mathematics, no quarters, no fractions, no nothing just say the digits and that’s it. Metric just literally saves my life.

I am about to build a similar building using concrete posts and have watched a number of videos along these lines but none come close to being as good as these. Great detail and a pleasant tone with added humour. Subscribed. I am also pleased to see you adopted Greg's knot tying method, despite mocking it a few films back. I am sure you could save hours if you went metric, 65' and 5 5/8" - asking for trouble. Still, you seem to get there in the end. Look forward to seeing more. Brilliant.

Great job on this video. I have seen your other videos on this subject and they are good to, but I like how thorough you are in this one. Thanks! An idea for another video might be how the site is graded before you do the layout. Fill vs. virgin soil, problems with rocky soil, things of that nature. I am toying with the idea of doing that part myself for my DIY project, but I need to research more about that topic.

I was lucky enough to be taught how to do layout with batter boards and string line when I was first in the biz 30 years ago. Set batter boards 5 ft outside of building lines. Buildings are always right on with square. It's amazing how many builders don't know how to do it this way.

He really wouldn't want to do that, he would never get anything accomplished due to producers, writers, executives always dictating to him and his crew on what to do, stand, say, pose for this camera, pose for that camera, ect. But, if the money's there...🤔.........🤑🤑🤑
