How To Layout like a PRO with String and Batter Boards
HTML-код

- I wanted to create a video someone could watch and simply learn how to layout like a pro with string and a set of batter boards. If you follow my easy steps, you will have your layout done in no time. I also think you will like my efficient use of one batter board instead of two...It's easier and quicker. Bust this out and look like a pro next time!
If anyone knows the name of the knot in the video let me know. I am curious what it is called

For me, the ideas in ruclips.net/user/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
I'm building my first pole barn-you are the only person I was able to understand on how to lay out my post square-thanks for saving my ass.
Greatest source on the internet in my opinion, cutting edge on the information relay. Owe you much more than money brother.
Ive been laying out and doing concrete slabs and general construction for over 25 years, and your information is 100% accurate, and very efficient. Keep up the good videos and the top notch construction. Thank you
Sam Here Rooster 5th generation here.
This guy has got to be the cleanest builder I’ve ever seen . Everything has just come out the wrapper on every video
Everything always looks better on video dude. I do this shit for a living in seattle. Shits dirty, muddy, shit everywhere on big sites.
I just did this last week laying out the holes and anchors for climbing trees in some parks over here, it is really cool when all the strings end up bang on!
Cheer from Tokyo!
Addressing people on RUclips that freak-out over the painted tape was hilarious! Very informative and a joy to watch! thanks for sharing.
I almost spit out my drink lol
This is a gold mine of information!! On a previous project me and my younger brother were to put up a lean-to shade area next to our barn and in our attempts to make the square posts straight and equidistant all around was almost impossible and we barely managed to make it square...
B U T!
After watching this video and going step by step we have flawlessly thrown up 8 posts for another shade project and it’s such a relief to have this kind of video for help. You definitely deserve a Nobel prize for this masterpiece of a video
Im watching this at 5AM. Now i want to go build something......But im not going too. Great video though. Thx much!!

I'm a homeowner who recently hired pros to build a deck this summer. I was just looking for some info on how the project will go so I am more informed on the technical pieces that will go into my project. The video was really well done and very informative and I appreciate your expertise and the time you took to make it. Thanks!
We are building a post frame building. Thanks to this Chanel we aren’t building a pole barn. Just bought lumber and starting on leveling and making a pad. These videos are amazing. 102x42 wish us luck.
Hey guys, thank you for the excellent video. Nothing like having teachers who know how and what to teach and have some fun doing it at the same time!
I remember back in 89 going over this with the head of our survey department at Burgess and Niple as a new hire. I think we did 4 or 5 practice layouts before going out to a job site. He didn't want anyone using the laser layout system who couldn't do a manual layout. Batteries on that old equipment would always die when you needed it the most. Those ni-cad bricks weighed a ton when you had to make sure you had enough power for a full day. Great video
Thank you for taking the time to film and explain this process. I am about to put up a rabbit barn and wanted to be sure I had it straight and square. This helped me understand the process better. Thank you.
Very timely find for me. I just picked up a 70 x 30 shelter kit from an auction yesterday (12/29/2022), and I would like to mount the support posts on Sonotubes. I am looking forward to learning exactly where and how to place those tubes and posts; pre-fabricated steel isn't nearly as forgiving as wood. This channel is THE best instructional place for us unranked amateurs to learn how to do it. Thanks for making these videos!
Thats the first time I've seen a batter board at an angle. I love that!!
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Your help has been immense in helping us layout our deck. I am teaching 3 teenage boys how to lay out a deck or building and asked them to watch this video before we start. Well done.
This was great, cause I'm going layout a foundation for a shed. Thanks for the refresher course. Love your work and the videos.
This was so informative. Simply explained. Great job. I low-key want to work for you.
If you ever expand, and in need of workers, look no further. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for taking the time to provide details. I am in the process to build my own shop.
Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
I’m from Philippines and I used to work as an aircraft technician, we use imperial like everywhere and anything and to be honest until now it still hurts my brain computing or even by just listening to you but then after I arrived here in Australia and work as a carpenter and holy sheeet everything is changed, it’s like first grade mathematics, no quarters, no fractions, no nothing just say the digits and that’s it. Metric just literally saves my life.
I was laying out a half pipe with some friends à while ago and it seemed to take forever to get it right. I'll use this for the next one, thanks for taking the time to make the video!
The layout is definitely going to help. Have been doing concrete work for years. We are getting ready to start to build a pole barn house here soon
When the batteries die or you forget your calculator, the '6' '8' '10' ratio works too. You are a very good teacher, and make layout look easy, thanks for your informative videos.
This is by far the best explanation and tutorial of setting batter boards and squaring a building!!!!
After trying to do it myself and wasting almost 2 days I watched your video and had it done and square in an hour. Thanks for the helpful advice
I am about to build a similar building using concrete posts and have watched a number of videos along these lines but none come close to being as good as these. Great detail and a pleasant tone with added humour. Subscribed. I am also pleased to see you adopted Greg's knot tying method, despite mocking it a few films back. I am sure you could save hours if you went metric, 65' and 5 5/8" - asking for trouble. Still, you seem to get there in the end. Look forward to seeing more. Brilliant.
Thanks a million guys they just dropped my framing package this morning your method simplified it fantastically. It’s been 40 years since I laid out, I feel like I owe you a beer…lot of great tips (got to buy another 100 ft tape that was awesome)
I watched every second of this video, I am never building a building but I did. Great video man
Me to. I m the kind who likes to drive into new home sites and just look at the skeletons of the building being built!
Thank you brother helped out a lot. We need more real men like you brother. Keep pushing in that blessed direction.
Great job on this video. I have seen your other videos on this subject and they are good to, but I like how thorough you are in this one. Thanks! An idea for another video might be how the site is graded before you do the layout. Fill vs. virgin soil, problems with rocky soil, things of that nature. I am toying with the idea of doing that part myself for my DIY project, but I need to research more about that topic.
I went back to check what was said and it was 68' 5 5/8" so I stand corrected.... the app calculation is good. good video. I'm planning a garage and will build on a monolithic slab and this video is helping me understand how to ensure my slab will be square. Thanks!
Excellent video same exact thing I did for forty plus years happy to see those traits are still being used today. Thanks enjoyed the video.
Thank you! I was having trouble squaring the corners of my 12x24 deck layout using string and the 345 rule. After watching this I bought two identical 100' tape measures and easily squared it up.
Yes, this explanation makes it easy for us to understand. Thank you.
Really regret didn't learning this before building my house. Coz my house isn't square.
Anyways, that's for video, very educational for my future projects
Amazing clarity on the presentation.
Your videos are always top notch. Learn great tricks every time I watch one!
I really enjoy your content. I've done a bit of construction, and am in the process of finishing a pole barn. The devil is in the details with the metal siding/trim, and your vids have really helped me develop a solid game plan. You do great work, and also don't take yourself too seriously. Hope you keep making videos.
Thank you Kyle for this very informative and educational video my friend!!! 👍👍 God Bless my brother.
Glad to see the new video. It seemed like the last few have been a little less on the building and more on the behind the scenes material, which is good as well.
Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge, this is the best channel on you tube
Great tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to produce it.
You do a great job of explaining this process. You are a great teacher! Thank you for making another great video!😀👍
Nice work guys. I usually lay out my points with rebar pins to exact dimensions then use a level to plumb up lines to the batter boards.
Enjoyed how you made the complex simple. Nicely done, sirs.
Great Video, I,m laying out a octagonal building this is a great way to do things!
Thank for the fantastic explanation
Great video, your something else the way you explain & the visual detail you provided just makes everything so easy to understand!!👊🏽👊🏽
You're great man! Everything is strongly professional! My compliments!
I was lucky enough to be taught how to do layout with batter boards and string line when I was first in the biz 30 years ago. Set batter boards 5 ft outside of building lines. Buildings are always right on with square. It's amazing how many builders don't know how to do it this way.
Thank you Guy’s for taking the time & effort to make this Video to help others! I have watched your Video a few different times and have learned a lot from it 👍 Again, Thank You!!
Great demonstration. I’m sure I’ll be using it in my next Build
Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to share it.
Man, I just can not get enough of your videos. I am not in the trade but am handy enough to tackle building my own pole barn, and your videos have thought me a ton. You should truly be proud of how much you have contributed to mankind. I live in Niagara ON, Canada, and planning to build a 40X70 Pole barn. May I ask who does the blueprints for you that you submit to the town? Thank you in advance.
Yeah man!
Keep it simple and get it done.
Just enough fine tuning to stay on target but keeping it real at the same time.
I’d hire your crew anytime.
Thanks!
Thank you for recording and posting this educational video.
Great explanation on the process. It would be awesome to see a detailed explanation on setting brackets and some more info on the story pole. I did see the story pole video, but still confusing about the grade measurement.
Right on amigos! Thanks so much for making that understandable for a novice builder. Many thanks!
You're the best. I learnt so much from your videos.
By far the best videos online
Clear and precise instructions. Just in time for spring time building in the Rocky Mountains. Thank you.
Very clear description. Thank you.
This is the kind of Information that is t shared much on the internet, at least well! Great work, I needed this 👍🏼👍🏼
Another great and informative video, thanks fellas.
Great video. Simple and clear.
Paint the tape as much as you want, it’s your tape. Great video, thank you. Looking forward to what’s next.
Your timing of this video was perfect. I will be laying out footers for my shipping containers connected by a canopy and a new predator-proof chicken run very soon. As always, thanks so much for the very informative and detailed commentary. I think you should have your own TV show as you are very entertaining as well. ~Sleepy Hollow Farm @ White Bluff, Tennessee~
Awesome good luck
Scott Glover, I mentioned that one time about the Essential Craftsman, and boyyyy did I get jumped on, which I do understand now. He really wouldn't want to do that, he would never get anything accomplished due to producers, writers, executives always dictating to him and his crew on what to do, stand, say, pose for this camera, pose for that camera, ect. But, if the money's there...🤔.........🤑🤑🤑
@@silvergrizzly316 I like making my own show
What's TV?
As you have taught us math never lies. great video thanks for all your hard work.
Great video! Explained excellent! Thanks for sharing

Love that quick knot, thank you
Explained perfectly. Great viedo
Enjoying your videos from Nova Scotia Canada 👍
how is justin "CASTRO" trudeau?
Bloody hell Greg, one job mate!
I have an awesome idea for a series! Proving your methods to show how easy....travel to Idaho and build a 64’x32’ shed roof style pole barn home 🤔👍🏼👍🏼🙏🏼
Very informative. Thanks for sharing!
Good job. Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the great instructional video!
