I've built TWO of these when they came out with the "lend-Lease" Russian versions. At 5:30, the cross bearer you install; I put it in back to front. Swore that on the second one I would get correct...no such luck! Put 2nd one in wrong, too. At least I realized it before the glue set and I pulled it off the frame.
The engines in Chevy trucks (civil and Mil.) where a medium Grey. most of the accessories; starter, generator, voltage regulator, were all sub contracted and usually were black.
At 13:40, the very fragile bits are the "knee-action" shock absorber linkage. think those and frag.?, wait til you get to the other half of the linkage.
The lost details will make for great diorama possibilities. Except in snow & rain, most WW II military vehicles had the doors windows down for circulation most of the time.
The construction of the cab, I thought, was to allow them to make the hole in the cab top for the machine gun ring mount. The wood canvas frame would never support a gun mounting.
I have actually owned three of these Chevy's and was sooo glad to see them modeled.

Nice build Gary you did very well and if like you say you haven’t made many vehicles good on you roll on figures that will finish it off lovely l bought the ICM German Staff Car as l am the opposite l haven’t made many aircraft well only one 🙄 and it took ages but l am happy with it vehicles you can get away with more 😂 once again well done 👍😊

The front canvas hoop; I would replace that with suitably-sized brass rod then drill that to allow the pintle to fit.

FYI as a disabled driver - in my case paraplegic - I learned to drive on an automatic and my licence was automatic only. Just as well as I didn't - and still don't - have three hands, one each for the clutch, brake, and gear stick :) Also AFAIK there are no disability adaption kits for manual transmissions.
I have heard of people taking automatic-only licences in the UK, whether or not required by their physical needs, it is just reasonably unusual. Or at least it was, maybe in recent years it has changed. Don't hear too much painful grinding of gears down our road these days (there is a test centre not far away...) and I don't think electric vehicles have gears. Maybe they do. It's a long time since I've been in the automotive loop. However, now I would never use a manual gearbox out of choice, unless of course we do win the treble-rollover lottery in which case I don't think Aston Martin did the DB-5 superleggera convertible with an auto option...

It looks a complex build, with lots of 'fiddly stuff', and sadly as you say, much of it will never be seen again... 😔 Still, at least YOU know it's there, eh...? 😉
Great stuff so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing how you tackle figures; that's one area where I have trouble, regardless of what I try!! getting a realistic face is SOOOO hard to do - especially the eyes! I've recently started experimenting with actually trying to get whites/pupils touched in, but it's so hard to get the tip of the damn brush to not get them looking boss-eyed!! Or just scary wide eyes!! 😂 Though a good dark oil wash can hide a multitude of sins...!! Ha Ha!! 😂

i believe the .30 will feed from either direction, so there's no wrong answer here for how the belt is fed. Also, the mount would have been a field mod so you could mount it anywhere.
I wonder how the feed mechanism works then? I mean, it must pull the next round into place as the breech goes back so it can chamber the next round. Maybe there's a switch?
As I said in the box opening video I thought those hoops were very fragile. I am not sure if the 30 cal was ever mounted off the hoop. It would be far too flimsy a mounting point. There was usually a hole in the cab roof with a substantial gun ring around it so the gun had a 360 degree arc of fire. I think that is an ICM add on. Nevertheless I think it is a good detailed kit and a nice build.
In their catalogue there is a photo (I assume they used for reference) of the .30 mounted on the front roof hoop as in the kit, but it's not clear if there was any other form of support underneath it. I'd have to have a look around...

Me too. Living in a city I wouldn't go near stick shift again. Well, for a normal car anyway. A vintage Aston Martin? I'd bear the burden with dignity...!
Hi Gary, interesting build and I think your best narration to date. For me toooooooo many parts and quite a few just to ‘up’ the number count? Enjoyed this and the final look is great.
Could you add a time taken to complete on these videos? It would be interesting to know.

That's a good idea Bob. This one was about a week and a half, not full time of course as I also did the Hurricane at the same time. I'll see if I can get a system of recording the hours but I tend to forget things like that. Couple of times back when I was working for a company they had timesheets to see what we were all doing in a kind of amateur time and motion thing. I used to forget to log the hours for each project all the time. And I insisted on adding a daily half hour section called "filling in this timesheet"!

There’s some other stuff but no relation to any builds, I notice that (unlike many others) you dont list a work email on your About page?? The whole site needs some work Gary as people do read it.
I notice you have now got money flowing in and I am so pleased for you. I would say you need to list everything you use in a build as we do want to do what you lot do!! I mean you lost out on an airbrush and the brushes. Doing that say 100 times a week will be a serious loss!
I don’t understand why you have say 11k subs but another guy with a lesser channel has say 30k ??? It may be the ‘little’ things??

Well, money does arrive but a simple profit/loss calculation shows I'm getting about 1/10th of minimum wage given the actual hours I put in. Slightly more than job-seekers' allowance, for something I do 8-10 hours a day seven days a week. Wish it were more!
I can look at adding all the equipment details to the info panel. I have just about 12.5k subscribers, people with 30k or more may have been going for longer. I know many of the people I see at events have been making videos for 5-10 years, I've just passed my second anniversary of kit making!
I have so very, very many things going on at the moment, airbrush reviews, paint reviews, builds, history videos, at some point I'll get round to other things as well!

Money, well you appear wealthier, more shirts, green screen, more stuff in general……you just appear in better form!! You will never equate hourly rate to the hours one works at the beginning. True some are longer on site yet some aren’t, Manns Models has shot up. Could your ‘start’ being 2009 be harming you? When you are only 2 years old?
I want you to make the money you deserve and I am struggling to find out why you can’t have an explosion!?
Don’t take too much on Gary, you will suffer and you channel will suffer. Remember most businesses go under for over trading!! Less at full quality is best.

That's what I thought but ICM seem to have a photo that shows it being used. Or at least fitted. Maybe the frame is springy so it gives with the recoil?
Hi Gary, what glues do you prefer to use when building, noticed you seem to use various kinds during a build?
For large bits or where I need a bit of an instant 'grab' I'll use Revell Contacta, most of the time I use Tamiya Extra Thin. Now and again the Tamiya quick drying one as well.
Gary - did you not use any primer for the ICM paint?
Yes I did, I tend to prime everything on the frame, at least enough for most eventualities. With aircraft I'll give them a final primer coat as I will have done panel fitting and the canopies during the build. My usual primer is Jenolite acrylic for plastics out of a rattle can.
The kit really looks the part, I'm looking forward the the figures. I noticed the video was 51.10 minutes long, I was wondering how many days it took you to finish the kit or did you finish it up in a single day?
It was most certainly not a single day! It took about a week and a half, but not full time. I tend to have two or three things on the go at any given time.
Hi l agree to that 1 inch mild steel pipe designed to support canvas would not serve long l like the model & your build but a gmc is too slow, too noisy, too high , no armour the crew would have a bad day if ambushed by a mg 42😢🥇🎖😎
