Thank you for the video man. Just did this exact same setup on my FG and the intake noise in insane. Picked up the parts from autobarn and did it in about 40 mins
Mate, you’ve done a great job with this video. If I where to point out the only issue, it’d be that it wasn’t the PCV you removed. It was the crankcase breather. The PCV valve is the white plug in the rear left corner of the cam cover. Only a tiny inconsistency. Otherwise, you’ve done bloody well.
G day Luke. If your replacing the intake pipe its the one closest to the front of the car. Ultimately both can be re routed to a catch can if need be without any issues. Hope I helped
I did this and it threw up a check engine light ! I found out it needs to be a closed system otherwise it will keep throwing up a check engine light even if you clear it. Oil catch can or run the factory hose back into the intake.
Awesome been looking for a video like this. As I hv a Ford territory 2012, do basic upgrades. Your tips work well, saved me abit of coin. Watching from Samoa 🇼🇸 Pacific territory 💯🔥🤙. Surfs up uce 👍😎🏄♂️🍻
Really enjoy your videos . Like how you have utilised the factory air box they work well . I’ve done this on another vehicle when I was younger even got the dremel out and grinded away the webbing /ribs smooth
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but that's not a restrictor it uses some fluid dynamics called the Venturi effect. (High pressure, low flow rate converted into Lower pressure, Higher flow rate using a constriction)
The Restricter in the air box is to increase the velocity of the air going into it for more low end power. It’s not much of a restriction at all, it’s just forcing air into a narrower hole to get it through the filter quicker
Yeah, old mates not wrong here, when your engine revving out its wanting to be breathing in more air so a restrictor in the airbox seems silly if you ask me. The barra has enough low end torque already there Haha.
Jarrod the same about of air will go into the the engine reguardless, the only difference will be its velocity, the restriction adds pressure to the air which forces it though the intake quicker. You can test this with a hose at home. Fill up a bucket with the hose and time how long it takes, then do the same thing but pinch the end of the hose, the 2nd bucket will fill up quicker because the faster you push out water, the faster the water can move to rush behind it. Same principle applies to engines and removing that restriction decreases the amount of airflow across all rpm, it is however much more noticeable in the low end then it is in the high end, if he’s not opting for a larger intake then he should keep the restriction there.
@@ysomadbeats yeah I understand what your saying, I'm just only going by the feel of the car and I must say there is a bit of power gain especially in the top end. Idk but I know that a K&N filter installed, I felt a big difference
This will be easy to test once the track re opens .....I'll run the car as is then will run with the standard airbox and see what the results are. Only thing that sux is that the tracks are closed until next season
Installed a cold air intake today to my na fg, looked up and noticed a massive crack in the rubber between the throttle body and the air muffler set up. Might just follow your guide and delete the whole thing.
Hey bud yea my 2011 fg is standard also so i followed the same steps as you showed & mate she sounds good, increase in power aswel, still got standard exhause system tho lol but im happy...Cheers buddy👍
Yes that will work and probably perform just as well. The stock intake pipe has a muffling system to reduce intake noise but it shouldn't restrict flow. So you should get the increase in flow without the noise. 👍🏻
If you just disconnect the breather pipe from the cam cover outlet to the air intake system and put that little air filter on it it will throw up a check engine light. You either have to run an oil catch can or run the breather hose into the silicone pipe intake otherwise it will keep throwing up the check engine light.
The ram effect of the intake is nominal at best ....considering the car made 209.4rwkw with this mod (and exhaust) plus the car showed drastically improved fuel economy means its working. The factory intake is all about noise reduction not power.
@@backyardbunkybuilds7461 The exhaust mods would be responsible for that gain. The holes would mean you take in more hot engine bay air. A better way to do this is make a larger air feed tube, or even more than one tube and get it taking air directly from the front of the car unimpeded and with some large mesh at the entry to stop objects entering. You then get cooler denser air with a stronger ram effect. I'm a mechanical engineer - try it and get back to me.
I can see the holes in the front could work a lot better if you took the headlight out and made a custom cold air intake that comes out the headlight and you block off the factory cold air intake inlet
I've tried to do the same as you here but the aluminium pipe I bought was too long. I'm just gonna cut it to size with an angle grinder. And far out it took alot of effort to get that hose onto the airbox for me.
Yeah its pretty tight ....but a bit of spit helps !! We've had our car on the dyno and that airbox combination works really well .....will do an update when time permits but is the highest number ive seen for an NA so far
I was advised not to modify the intake pipe, as it will lose low end power. Was also advised the restrictor is there to help low end power. Have you done a Dyno Yet ?
Hi KJ that information is true ....but !! Although you sacrifice a small amount of low end power the trade off is increased midrange and top end power. Once the world returns to normal we'll tune and dyno the car and should expect around 190/200rwkw
@@backyardbunkybuilds7461 I think you will find that there is no low RPM power loss from changing your intake pipe. But also no low down benefit since the standard air box flows enough to not cause any significant loss up to around 4-5000RPM. After that as you have described you will get a power increase. People believe some strange stuff that they don't even understand. All the power due to velocity effects is for intake port size and extractor diameter including length, not with an intake pipe. Reduce restriction before the throttle body and you will not see any negative effect!
Someone for the life of me please tell me how hes got a 12mm breather on there. Got myself a K&N 3/8-1/2in (9.5-12.7mm) filter and cant see how its even possible that it fits on there. I am aware that its likely to be more difficult as its a universal filter with a size range, but looks like it needs to be at least double the size. Any help appreciated, cheers.
Hi Joe the filter needs to be a tight fit because you can't fit a hose clamp on it. I spat on it to lube it and it pushes on with some twisting and elbow grease.
Hey mate. What's the lengths of length of the silicone hose pieces for either end and length of the elbow? Got a street fighter cold air intake coming for my fgx xr6 ut, and this would accompany it nicely. Got the DEA cat back system too. Sounds nice. Thinking of rear muffler delete

I found the lower section of and XR8 airbox that included these intakes on eBay from memory. K&N panel filter.
