My 45 year old brother had his life support switched off. It took him 2 days to die, during which we watched him gradually turn blue & his breathing get harder and harder. It made me so angry. If we left an animal struggling to breath for 2 days, until it turned blue, it would be deemed animal cruelty.
@GilmoreM yea and it’s all because if a doctor says it’s ok to end a suffering persons life , he would be fired the next day
So sorry!
I AGREE. I’m so sorry you went through that with your loved one. It’s just not right.
God bless you. As a nurse I've had to watch many bad deaths bc the doctors didn't care about pain and agony bc they don't have to watch it.
Sorry that happened. They should give dying patients opiates or fent so they can at least die in peace. And it's cheap
Anyone who has watched a loved one slowly die realizes how inhumane the law can be.
Yes. My aunt passed away in October from terminal cancer. She didn't linger too long after getting sick which I am grateful for. I'm glad that this jury came to this verdict.
Absolutely!
@@mlee_wood3778 My Mother suffered for YEARS with pain from a body riddled with cancer and never complained. The end was long, drawn out and incredibly inhumane/unfair to her. She deserved a better ending.
There is a limit to what treatment can do. When you've reached it, it's a sad sight.
If there is no cure, today was intolerably painful and tomorrow will only be worse than today, there needs to be other options than letting someone suffer for days or weeks before passing naturally.
@@usualsuspectsfor1k I am so sorry you had to go through that. I can't imagine seeing someone I love go through long term pain like that
Prolong the suffering and milk every dollar out of the patients insurance that they can.
Excellent job, jury. Those were the right verdicts! Anyone notice that people are sick of these ridiculous charges and trials. NOT GUILTY!
Yep, I see you in chat a lot .. I'm happy they got it right this time
I agree, problem is he may be gun shy 4 the next poor person who is suffering!!! Go thru this again most hospitals
probably won,t hire him now!
It makes me sick the way Some people think a person should be Putting up with serious pain like from cancer and other diseases that meds just no longer can control the pain but they're supposed to go on suffering are you kidding me whoever thinks this is statistic and sick
Thank god!
@@martikagarcia6948 I know exactly what it's like to live with excruciating pain. The only difference is I'm not terminal. Yet. But when I get there I want a doctor just like him!
I hope all the nurses that were suspended by the hospital as well as the Dr. sue the pants off this hospital.
They need to this was a witch hunt n the doctor who specifically said in this trial dr Husel was killing these dying patients
💯💯💯
Palliative care is very complex. This doctor deserved this verdict. Respect 🙏❤️
im glad that not only was the jury correct but the commenters have experience are correct as well and no one has brought up his college bomb making incident (honestly fukked up)knowing hes innocent this is very universally important in clearing all innocent people
Palliative care is a great cover for murder. But, people dont matter, right? Just useless eaters.
I, 110% agree with you. Palliative care is very complex. The whole point is to make sure those patients are in no pain and they aren’t suffering. Each person is different. From the diagnosis to their tolerance of the pain meds, seizure medications, sedative/anxiety type medicines (like Ativan, Valium). So the amount of medicine they get will be different. And then those amounts will need to be adjusted throughout the process. Again, the dosage of medicines will differ from patient to patient, and the dosages will need to be adjusted throughout the end of life care. The doctors may need to add medications from time to time. Each patient is different, and each case is different. It’s all up to the treating physician. The patients should be kept comfortable as they go through end of life care. That’s the whole point of palliative care, to keep patients comfortable as they go leave this physical world. What’s really messed up is that if the doctor didn’t keep these patients comfortable and pain free, people would loose their minds, just as they did with this case. I’ve personally dealt with a hospital that failed to keep my grandmother pain free and comfortable as she left us. She was hospitalized for having a really bad seizure that was caused by several brain bleeds. The failed to keep her seizures controlled and they failed at keeping her comfortable. We ended up bringing her home on palliative care. The night she came home, the hospice nurse stayed with me until like 3am. She made sure that the seizures were controlled and that she was comfortable (meaning she was screaming and crying in pain). The nurse did stay in contact with the agencies doctor so that when she left, I knew dosages and times to give each of the medicines. The dosages had to be titrated as things progressed. I’m beyond grateful for that hospice agency and the staff we had. They took care of the whole family. My grandmother was the top priority (obviously) and then my Mom, Aunt, my sister, brother, and my kids. The youngest was my daughter and she was 3 at the time. That’s how palliative care works. Glad that this doctor was acquitted from all charges.
He deserves not to be accused
After watching my mom recently die with comfort care in a situation that was not reversible I would never wish that upon anyone. She seemed comfortable but basically waiting for dehydration and starvation while unconscious is cruel. We need to change the laws here. If I am in that situation I welcome the same treatment that we allow our animals to get.
I put my patients on CMO all the time. Hate it. Hospice is the way to go. Euthanasia should be discussed without the stigma with palliative medicine
I’m a veterinarian and I feel the same.
I watched my Father go the same way, it took 10 days no food or water. My Aunt died the same way & it took 21 days!!!! It’s horrific & seems unduly cruel.
Amen, watched my 57 year old mother suffer so much before a brave doctor like this one helped her.
The point of morphine is to relieve any pain. I am sorry for your loss but comfort care is a choice! Like abortion, if you do not believe in comfort care don’t do it. It is not for everyone. Full code is good too!
This is a huge relief! I have worked in healthcare for over 40 years. The hospital is at fault for not having a structured policy and procedure in place for the documentation and medication delivery regarding palliative care. If they had a better system, Dr. Husel would not have had to go through this ordeal. The hospital used Dr. Husel as a scapegoat.
Just like the nurse that is going to jail for a medication error. They're taking the fall.
@@videoettaceo8900 Nurse's in America are not paid what they should be paid, are overworked & mistreated, imho. A nurse deserves to be paid as much as a doctor, nurse's work their butt's off!
@@videoettaceo8900 I totally agree
I agree and I hope Dr. Husel sues the hospital!
Definitely agree and the judge was in on it too, you see how salty the prosecution was? Didnt even want to speak with the jury because they know this was bs from the jump.
As a retired nurse, I am so happy he was found not guilty on all counts!!! He was NOT guilty of anything except trying to help make those patients have a much less painful death than they would have had!! Thank you jurors!!! I hope for good things for this man as his life has totally been destroyed! Shame on you prosecutors!
Dr Kavorkian was a pioneer in trying to help people die with dignity ! He also had feelings for people in pain and wanted to help them die in peace ❤️ Of course he was stopped We live in a society where animals can be euthanized but terminal 0atients are left to suffer unbearable pain! I feel that someday this will change ❤️

So he had the permission of the patients and that can be proven? If not, he's a murderer, pure and simple. dr. death 💀
This is the doctor I would want in my final moments.
AS a retIReD NUrSE
When my mother had cancer she chose not to have treatment once it was determined that her case was terminal. All she wanted was to go home, and be kept out of pain. It took her 10 agonizing days to die. The last 4 days she laid there with an agonized expression on her face, gurgling and sputtering, and unconscious. It broke my heart not to be able to help her suffering to stop. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone.
Same with my mother in law
There should be something done about prosecutor overreach. This never should have went to trial. I would sue the state if I were Dr Husel.
He needs to sue that hospital for orchestrating this entire debacle.
@@norsechick Good luck with that. Not going to happen.
@@qwax I wouldn't be so quick to assume. In a civil trial, people far less deserving have been awarded huge judgements.
@@mike4619 I don't think there will be a civil suit against the hospital from the doctor. Now the families might also go after the hospital. I read the doctor had pending civil litigation from the families of the people he killed. He's going to be busy.
@@qwax He didn’t kill anyone.
I love how the attorney cried. That’s how much she put her heart and soul. I hope she takes a big vacation now. Offers will start coming in like crazy. Huge case.
So happy he was found not guilty!! Great job, jury!
The court reporter knew the verdict, hence the give-away-smile, judge had relaxed body language
This is why 'Dying With Dignity Law' needs to be passed. I've watch all of my Grandparents die a slow and painful death. I don't wish that on anyone.
How this even got to trial I'll never understand. Looking at Dr Husels face when the verdict was read brought tears to my eyes
Nothing should shock you about American justice system . It’s run by republicans
Same, I was so happy for him, I know he will never wanna do this line of work again and the judge should have charges brought against him by the way he was acting during the entire trial, imo he is definitely taking some meds sitting up there trying to help get this man locked up smh.
@@qiaray1123 If he did nothing wrong he would still have a job and be able to practice medicine.
It got to trial because we are living in a litigious society
Wouldn't blame him if he quit. I read the hospital paid out tens of millions in settlements just to avoid the lawsuits expense.
A big win for we the people. This man cared about patients and paid a heavy price. I hope he and his family can move on.
My great grandmother was 93 and refused to go for dialysis when her kidneys failed. It took about 2 weeks for her to pass. After 2 days of no liquids she was having seizures and looked so terrified. It was the most horrific thing I've ever witnessed. I wish Dr. Husel had been her physician. This man truly knows the meaning of compassion and took his oath of "do no harm" very seriously.
I’m so relieved. I hope Dr. Husel can now find some peace. This poor man’s life has been destroyed because of complete ignorance. I really hope he is able to get his license back and go back to practising with passion and care. ❤️
Here's hoping these murders haunt his every waking moment
@@PatriotGamesROCKS that is just cruel what you said. Would you want somebody to suffer I think he was doing the right thing and maybe he wasn't doing it at all maybe it was one of the head nurses

You can tell the doctor is highly traumatized. His life will not be the same after this.
Now give him his medical license back!!
Excellent verdict. It never ceases to amaze me how most people will run to the vet and beg them to put their beloved and suffering animal out of its misery. We need to come to terms that if one chooses to die because they don’t want to suffer indefinitely and there’s no way out but death, doctors should abide by the wishes of the patient without fear of being charged. Isn’t human suffering above animal suffering? This I say and I am a vegetarian cause I adore animals more then many humans I meet, but humans, regardless of how I feel about certain ones, have way more rights and deserve way more compassion. The jury did the right thing. Go enjoy your life doctor, sorry you were put through this.
Great point never thought about it like this I agree a 100%
Well written and true. We just got home from letting our loved dog go to ‘sleep’, he was old and in pain; if we can do this for suffering animals surely…

As myself a nurse for 38 years , this physician deserved this verdict. I have watched over so many people dying that I know that can be done with compassion and dignity which is exactly what this physician did.
Great verdict. I love that this judge is OVER any outburst shenanigan's.
IF this man had been found guilty it would have put so much fear in doctors and so much unneeded suffering would have happened. Until you see a loved one dyeing in pain, you will not understand. I was blessed to have a doctor like him for my loved one. You can't have a heart and watch that much pain and not do all you can to stop it
I had a friend who was in pain and suffering with his. His doctor knew he couldn't stand the pain no more and was on opiods I.v.. the doctor gave him 2 weeks worth of these ampoules and his wife put him out if pain. The doctor was not charged in that case, the same way this doctor should not have been charged. We put cats and dogs down, so why can't we do that with humans when they are suffering so much.
Thank the Lord, I have not had to endure watching a loved one die in pain -- but honestly, one should not have to have personally gone through a horrific ordeal like that to know that they would want to do ANYTHING that could help them pass in as least pain as possible. I haven't watched any of the trial, but by reading the comments, this case is crazy and sad to have gotten this far.
@@davianne70 I pray you never have to endure watching a loved one die in pain. This verdict will hopefully put a light on the horror of living through that.
Now he needs to go sue the state and the DA for wrongful prosecution.
That is likely not going work. Just because someone is found not guilty, does not equate to a malicious prosecution.
@@lennychorn147 Only in this case it was malicious, and totally unnecessary. If the DA did his job properly he would have recognized that the evidence did NOT support even charging him,but instead he wanted to be corrupt and leftist leaning and push this on regardless. This DA needs to be disbarred.
@@robbiewartburg1587 I don't know what started this case. But it seems to me, the effected families may have pushed the issue.

When have you ever seen a prosecutor hug the defense attorney after an epic loss?
I’m so pleased for Dr. Husel and also for his excellent defence team led by the wonderful Jose Baez who was absolutely professional throughout this trial . Well Done !!!!!
I am so happy for him, after all he and his team has been through to help, I'm glad justice was served.
I can’t imagine what his legal fees will be. This was so unfair to this Dr. Who wants to suffer for months if they are dying with no hope to recover?? Not me!
Jose Baez is a lot of things professional and wonderful he is not - He was Casey Anthonys lawyer But i am glad and happy for the DR at least sanity prevailed
🙎🏻♀️The same Jose Baez who defended Casey Anthony….THE CHILD-KILLER?!
He’s despicable.
My kids put those Alexa things in my house for security bc of my health. It actually saved my life last year. I’m a former physician, now dealing with serious health issues. My kids are well-aware that I plan on choosing when I die rather than burden them or any of my former colleagues. I’ve watched far too many patients and families suffer for weeks, days, months and often years of financial pain. I SHOULD have the freedom to do this as well as for my former colleagues to assist if necessary…but we don’t. It’s all done hush-hush so no one ends up on spurious charges.
Today, when I had a notification..it was this verdict and when I yelled “woohoo, yes!” Alexa responded “ it appears you have good news; would you like a happy song?” “Walking on Sunshine” from the 80’s. I’ll accept that. 😂
That is so sweet!! :) Your Alexa knew what to do! 😆
I so agree with you. Each and everyone of us should have this basic right.
Yes!!!! Good job jury!! AND a Big thank you to the Defense team! They did their job in this case!!
The right verdict.
A compassionate and JUST verdict for a compassionate and just man. NOT GUILTY!! I am so sorry that Dr. Husel had to endure this painful ordeal.
Finally a jury who got it right.
It must be so tough to be a doctor these days, with everyone sue crazy. They have to treat patients to the best of their ability and their ethical standards. Happy for him and kudos to the jury.
I've often thought about that, and Walmart too. they seem to be a target for people to sue
only in the US. Over here, on the other side of the ocean, people can die with dignity and without pain. We're not sue crazy. The doctors are overworked though.
Compassion, this Dr. has it. I watched my Mom suffer from "comfort care", while life slowly drifted away, breathing became more and more difficult for my Mom. Knowing you can not do anything other than pray was so difficult to accept. I am so thankful that there is more understanding of palliative care and this Dr. risked it all to help his patients pass away with dignity was so selfless. For their loved one who suffers right in front of you is so very painful. Love and caring is the answer. Bless you Dr., I think you were favored by God. 💜🙏🏽
I just went through this as well with my mom, and while she didn’t seem to suffer it is cruel in my opinion to wait it out. The laws must be changed, it’s humane to end life when it’s hopeless.

This brought tears to my eyes. Poor Dr. Congratulations, Dr.
This must have been so stressful for the poor guy. Hope he is okay now.
Yay I'm so relieved for this guy. Correct decision 👍🏾
This is what Courts are Courts of Law and not courts of public opinion. Public opinion might be loud and persistent but plays no part in a Court of Law.
How stressful for this doctor. Now doctors are going to be too scared to make patients comfortable. My dad was drugged up when dying and I was so grateful he didnt suffer
Me too. None or anything should suffer.
Good work Jury! I have cancer and MS and pray I can have a compassionate Dr. To keep me from suffering more than I do now….which is horrific!
Even the lawyer got teary. Good results
-- I know nothing about this case. But if I was terminal, I'd want to go out my way. If the doc is willing to do that, credit to him. Where I live, the only recourse is eating a bullet.
My mum died a horrible death with lung cancer. She was on a morphine infusion with top ups of injection. She was unconscious but you could see the pain in her face. The night she died a nurse gave her a top up injection and 10 minutes later she stopped breathing and died. I have always thought that last injection 'killed' her, not murder, but stopped her pain. She was dead really days before, unconscious, not moving, it was awful. The hospice she was in was wonderful, could not fault their care. Im a nurse myself and could not do the job those nurses do. This is the right verdict. This Doctor has lost his career because of this which is a tragedy in itself because he was obviously caring and devoted in his position.
Thank goodness for this verdict. Thank you jury
Thanks goodness that the jurors had some comment senses.
As an ICU nurses for over 2 decades I had helped many patients die with dignity while minimized their suffering...I sure hope that someone would do the same me and my love ones if and when the time arise.
As health care providers our primary goal is first for most is save and restore live. However, when all efforts failed, we would have to redirect our goals and objective to minimized patients' suffering...
This is shameful that this doctor would go to trial for this.....
Now where does he go to get his good name and attorney’s fees returned? I hope he and the nurses sue everyone involved.
I wish I get a doctor like him, if I were suffering..
Thankful for this verdict. Physicians sacrifice so much in training and in their careers and take on so much responsibility. They carry this burden home and throughout everything they do. Of course there is always an outlier, but in general, most physicians genuinely care about the well-being of their patients and take their Hippocratic oath very seriously. I hope he can move forward with his life in a positive way and have a fresh start.

Who charged him with murder? I don't understand. Narcotics are mandatory for end stage cancer patients.
What always amazes me, if we have a pet that has cancer or really injured and their quality of life is not good, we put them down to save them from any pain. Yet when it comes to humans showing the same compassion to humans everyone gets on their high horse and becomes all ethical. This doctor looks like he showed a lot of compassion to the end of life. Why the state went after him is beyond me.
It is ridiculous he had to go through all this....good verdict.
He may have a victory in the courtroom but outside ….. they ruined his reputation. Now this man has to rebrand himself & start over again . That’s the sad part .
At first I was going to say his reputation isn’t ruined because he has so much public support… but then I remembered medical practices would think of him as a liability, fearful of any lawyer ready to sue. Even doctors who support the verdict aren’t going to want to hire him. Dang.
I've never seen the defense attorney start crying over a favorable verdict.
This in my opinion was a spot on verdict.
Death with dignity and without undue suffering is a fundamental human right.
If there is no longer any hope, then there should at least be mercy.
Good for him, based on the content of the trial I think that's the way it should have gone.
Defense lawyers always get a bad wrap but you could tell she cared. I would want her defending me just based on her reaction to the verdict.
That was very evident. What we saw here was a fierce defense of an innocent man that they believed in.
True
I don’t recall seeing such an emotional reaction from a defence lawyer before.

This is the best news I've heard all year long and I don't even know this man or live in his community! But I do live in the United States of America and I do live in reality and had there been any outcome other than this I would never trust the justice system again..not that I would feel comfortable having my life dependent on it before but thank goodness the jury paid attention and seen how disgustingly wrong the state was for trying to charge this upstanding doctor with not just a single murder but 14 counts! God bless them and God bless the defense team and Dr Husel and family! You know what God bless us all!!

My dad died a painful death because of fear of doctors to prescribe. It’s barbaric not to help them.
My dad died recently too. We all got to say goodbye, and he said he needed to go to sleep. The doctors allowed a beautiful passing with medication allowing no pain. He was 92 years old and ready to go. God bless this doctor and all doctors such as this gentleman.
