    Since this is "Five Magics," they are showing off by playing in 5, during the middle sections. (If you count off the beats, you will count "1-2-3-4-5" or "1-2-3, 1-2, 1-2-3, 1-2".) The rest of the song is in 4, like most rock, funk, hip-hop, etc., and it's easier to groove in 4. You'll notice that once they jump back into 4 (just before the line "Possessed with hellish torment"), you can feel the groove come back. Some people learn to love "odd time signatures" like 5 (or 7, 9, 11, etc.), which were also used by Rush, Tool, and many other progressive bands. But some people can't feel the groove in them as much. I could be wrong, but I think that's what threw you guys off during the middle sections, more than the thrash element. (Also, Dave Mustaine re-recorded vocals on this version, and the original vocals are much better.)

    You should make sure to listen to the *original* mix on replays, and not the remaster! Not only is the "remaster" of Rust in Peace generally worse than the original, but they lost the original vocal track for Five Magics specifically, so the remaster uses a demo recording of Dave's vocals. The original mix's vocals are *much* better, they're *nastier* and more sinister sounding.

    • @gottlicherhammer
      @gottlicherhammer 2 года назад +20

    • @davidrydelpas
      @davidrydelpas Год назад +4

      I agree with the original mix being so much better. I had listened to the original for so many years then seen it had been remastered so I got it. There are many bands that need/needed some of their albums remastered because, for example, original sound recording being too low as Testaments: The Legacy... which I still have and enjoy to this day, and other bands that could use an adjustment. Megadeth is NOT one of them. I was Sooo disappointed when I heard the remastered version of this album and was turned off immediately. Some of the riffs were slightly off and drastically changed. Dave's vocals were not the same and the lyrics were switched as if someone had dyslexia when singing it or editing it. Poorly remastered is what it was but I'll always love Megadeth.

    • @beirch
      @beirch Год назад +4

      The layered "Hey!" vocals on Lucretia especially is so disappointing in the remaster. The original sounds massive with lots of reverb, while the remaster is incredibly dull sounding. Bummed me out when I heard it.

    All complex songs need to be listened to many times before appreciating them fully. It's the beauty of Mustaine's genius, it's the beauty of having all these twists and turns in the music. These compositions, like in classical music, release enjoyment long term because you always discover new details every time you listen, even years later. If that bass line you loved in the first part was repeated many times it would cause short term and immediate pleasure but in the long run the song would bore you. Rust in Peace is always a joy to listen to 30 years later because it's an infinite source of fresh energy to the ear and the soul. And this is thanks to the 'blips' as you call them and overall complexity that you might not like the first time you listen to the song. Time is on Megadeth's side, like a good wine it gets better and better as the years go by. Thank you for your reactions, they are always great!

      Yep, far inferior to the original. The guitars also sound different and I'd bet some of it was re-recorded as well. I mean, they hit all the notes but it doesn't sound as cohesive. Basically Dave got bored and let his ego get to him with the remasters. Bummer that they reacted to this version.

      Agreed. Since you guys seem to appreciate Megadeth's tasteful, mid-paced fare, I'd actually go further and suggest that you check out some stuff other than their early material. Trust, In My Darkest Hour, Youthanasia, Endgame, A Tout Le Monde and Poisonous Shadows, are all classic songs which showcase their melodic, slower and deeper side, which often gets overlooked. But checking those out makes you appreciate the band on another level instead of seeing them as one-dimensional shred heads.

    I love seeing people as excited and loving Megadeth as much as I do. My favorite band and my first show back in 1994, Youthanasia tour.
    Thank you guys! This song is absolutely amazing, particularly the end riff at 19:38... .

    Dave is cancer free and Megadeth are putting the finishing touches on the new album.
    The new album should be out this year

    Ryan's comments about the slow build have me thinking: "Live Undead" by Slayer, from South of Heaven. Majorly underrated! It might be relieving in a similar way to this one.
