I loved your Colorado hoodie! We have a Sun Joy. We bought it probably about 14 years ago. Ours has a metal frame and a canvas top and a chandelier. We take the canvas top off in the fall and put it back up the end of May. Here in Colorado, that’s the safest way to maintain our cover. I did have to replace the top once. And yes, we call this our gazebo, even though it’s square. Then a few years ago, we bought a Costco pavilion or at least that’s what we call it. We definitely needed help putting it up. We had added an additional concrete pad for this. I have a the same kind of lights hanging. I absolutely love my gazebo and my pavilion. We love spending time in our back yard in the warmer months. Years ago, I had a lilac tree/bush the size of yours at an old house. It’s one of my favorite flowers ever! They bloom around Mother’s Day around here so it reminds me of being a mom! Love your backyard. You are definitely making some fun memories!
We had a miserable March here in South Central PA, but this week, we will see temps in the high 70’s - mid 80’s…. Problem is pollen season is coming and we have some of the highest pollen counts in the country.
I have gardened in my yard for 25 years and I still would like to add more. The most expensive things are the shrubs that give structure even through winter. Your climate is very different from mine, but 1thing I wish I would have known earlier was to plant perennials . They come back every year. Annuals are beautiful but have become very expensive and last only until the first freeze. Try getting plants from friends that have established yards with plants that an example are day lilies. I’m sure there are others good in your weather zone. 😊
I love watching your videos! Your little girls are so adorable and so sweet. Bless you and your beautiful family! The gazebo looks great, and a great addition to your backyard.
You are going to enjoy the gazebo so much and with the lights, it will be so cozy at night. You have a good start to a lovely backyard. Little improvements over time lead to beautiful things.
I love the idea of a gazebo to spend more time outside. I will definitely look into one just like it. It was so nice to see the whole family together. Can't wait to see what you plant in your garden box! Your yard is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Love how you speak of contentment, appreciation and joy for what you have in the now. It is dialogue we all need to hear to find joy now not later or with more or better things. Thank you for your sweet and grateful heart! 🌻
Precious Ivy is absolutely mommies little helper. Y'all did a wonderful job on your backyard cleanup/makeover! Love the beautiful pergola and hanging lights. Great choice! ❤️
It's a great start for a busy family. It can take years to get a backyard to where you want it. It took us over a decade to get our little yard together "on the cheap", then on April 4th last year a 100 foot pine tree from our neighbours property fell in a heavy windstorm and knocked out our storage shed. Thank God it fell diagonally through our yard and missed our home, but got to our neighbours home, branches brushed along the back windows of our home though. Sooooo....we spent all last summer, cleaning up after the tree, filling in 12-18 inch holes created by the branches embedded in our lawn. The land owner of the acreage behind us also removed all of the trees from her 6 acres and left us with a patio of full hot Okanagan sun! We had to move our patio, and on and on. Our backyard is completely different now. Anyway, I hope you have many gatherings, parties, and summer fun! Happy Easter...He is Risen!!!
Looks great! For me, the best part of outside Winter clean up is when it done! When we can sit down in a clean space and enjoy the fruits of our labor. We cleaned up our deck and front porch a week ago. My splurge this yr was buying all new pillow inserts and covers for the outdoor furniture and porch swing. We’ve enjoyed being outside with a fire going. We have a 10x10 all metal gazebo on our deck, we’ve enjoyed it so much! I laughed when you said gardening was another thing you arent good at, Im with you, I am not good at gardening either, but I keep trying lol. Looking forward to more videos as your outdoor space comes to life.
Its a great change your garden. For the girls its fun to plant some flowerseeds. You can plant pumpkins and sunflowers. So easy but so much fun. I would love this kind off garden. ❤
The shade cover looks beautiful! Y'all did a get on the backyard. We have a full deck with no cover. The only time you can enjoy it is after 6pm usually. Otherwise it is too hot. Your girls are precious. These videos will be a great item for fun memories!
Kristen I love how you let it all hang out😂 I like this time of home life content. You are such a sweet real transparent beautiful woman, mother and wife🌸God Bless Oh and I love the transformation so far❣️
What a great outdoor space! I am not a gardener but I do enjoy decorating outside with flowers and thrifted finds. What I do is use large containers for flowers in the garden rather than actually planting in the ground and create some areas for birdfeeders, birdhouses, etc. I mulch the garden area and use large objects to be ground cover/weed control. I had “fairy gardens” where the kiddos could play with those garden items from Dollar Tree and from around the inside and outside of the house.
Loved the transformation, so inviting and pretty. I love sitting in the backyard, just watching the birds and squirrels, it's peaceful. Thanks so much for all you do 🦋🦋
Love your gazebo with lights ..... you'll be spending lots of time with your family in that huge yard! I would love to have a ton of flowers in my yard, but everything takes time and $$$ ....it's fun to watch it change! Good job guys!
You've been busy! You're all going to enjoy the cleaned up yard. With the fire pit so close to the house and curious little ones around, I would recommend getting a screen to put over the top when there is a fire. It keeps little fingers away from the fire and prevents sparks from landing on your house.
It is really nice. you will get lots fun and good use of the gazebo . It is a great meeting place. You girls are adorable. That little one with the big dimple is smart. Have fun! nice family. Our weather is just like yours. windy! that is Iowa. Joyce
It is so nice to see your girls involved with working on the pergola. They did a great job in helping!! Your back yard is taking shape...it does take a long time to do things the right way. Don't be tough on yourself...pat yourself on the back...y'all have done a great job!! Look forward to watching your back yard take shape. Thank you for sharing!!
Great before and after...great, great improvement. I laughed when u said, I promise I really was working...it's just hard you said, When you're doing the filming...(you reminded me of myself with that comment....) Also, funny when you said working in the yard wasn't your sport.
I Love your backyard! I Especially Loved the part where your littles girls & the Doggie was all looking out the glass of the door watching you all! BUT I Absolutely LOVE you Kirsten and your Little family, I Really do! Hope you all have an Amazing Month! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🐕
Great transformation👌👌👌Your house is already curated and beautiful, now it's time to transform your yard and the garden into a great green and colourful heaven....People have given great suggestions below, all I can add is : if you don't have a budget now ( plants can be expensive) , maybe you can take a couple of trips to the forests and bring some shrubs and plants straight from nature , there is an aboundance of wild plants out there ... ferns, shrubs, self-seeded plants , etc. They will grow in time and bring you joy in your garden... Happy and blessed Easter ! 🐣💝🐣
Have you thought about putting down some of those real thin brick pavers under the pergola? Just dig up the grass and they will lay right down. Also, when thrifting look for or large pots and get you some small plants. Trust me you water and fertilize and they will grow huge. When you put your plants in your beds make sure to mulch as that holds the moisture in the plants to longer. That yard has so much potential! It could be absolutely gorgeous! It takes time! You know that saying," You have to crawl before you walk!" 🤣😂🤣😂
Look to friends and family for flower starts when it comes to perennials. We have people stop and ask for starts all the time of ours, even strangers, and I’m happy to share. That is how I got several of mine!
Great progress! Thinking that some colorful potted flowers (and maybe in colorful pots!) near some of the gazebo posts would brighten up the gazebo and help to delineate the new space (if it wouldn't be in the way ...) Darling family 😇
I was thinking the same thing. Some colorful annuals like petunias, coleus, sweet potato vine or ivy (for trailing) verbena, dracaena (for height). Container plants need consistent watering to prevent them from drying out. These make a nice container arrangement. Also some herbs like basil can be container grown.
I just love seeing your whole family enjoying the process of beautifying your backyard! If you still have a few of those lilac trimmings left, they make beautiful walking sticks! Just pull off the bark, sand smooth and rub on an oil finish or paint on a poly to weather proof it. We have one with lavender/purple streaks through it that we love.
So excited for your backyard transformation! Lots of videos coming our way! 😊❤ One thing you can do is incorporate a lot of pots with beautiful flowers on the concrete patio. They can be at different levels. You can create a pathway in the middle of your yard and create a couple "rooms" of flower beds and trees. Maybe even partner up with companies that sell plants, trees and garden furniture and fixtures etc...all will take time of course but your big yard has so much potential. You can maybe even create a small fenced area to plant herbs and crops. And another area for the girls to play .
Kristen, your yard has great bones. First thing try to plant more trees. Both evergreens for privacy, winter interest and deciduous for shade and wind shields. They’re also great back drops. I’d divide the yard into zones or rooms. The grilling, dining area, the relaxing, lounge area. The kids play area and so forth. Now fill the patio with pots filled with flowers and even herbs and produce. I’d be inclined to plant climbing vines on the poles of the gazebo, not necessarily on each one but a few at least for interest. You could also put in raised beds for a kitchen garden too. Great potential.
The new gazebo and yard clean up looks great! Good teamwork. I am not a gardener so have no tips. I keep thinking when I retire, I may try planting some things. Happy Easter to you and your family.
We’re in Michigan, and it looks like spring is arriving this year after all. So much yard clean up to do. Things are looking great in your backyard and love your new gazebo and lights!
So glad you chose this gazebo. I love the shape of it and love seeing the girls just playing and enjoying the back yard. They will love this in the summer time. Great friends and family to help also.
What a wonderful safe backyard for your girls to explore and family to enjoy. I envision lots of sunny Sunday afternoons drinking lemonaide and enjoying company.Easter Blessings to you and your family!
Wow! It's soo weird not to see mountains or woods in your neighborhood. I'm here on Long Island and we're kinda used to seeing the woods.Since I moved here I have mainly seen the east coast. It's trippy when I see the landscape in our regions. 😯
Hi Kristen and family, loved that you showed us the before and after! Big accomplishments! I enjoy seeing all of your girls working with you it speaks volume of how they love and appreciate their home. Please give us updates on what your doing in the yard. Thanks for sharing.
Looks beautiful! I love that Ivy’s stuffed dog is named Ruff Ruff…my daughter had one she named Woof Woof at that age…he became Woofie. She still has him (40 years later, lol!) He’s a family heirloom 😘
Your backyard is so big, just love it. The gazebo is so pretty, nice to see your family and friends working together. I know you will have the backyard looking so good and enjoy it for years to come. Happy Easter to you and family! God bless.🌷🙏🐇🙏🐇
Wow, what a great day! Y'all accomplished so much in just a day! The gazebo looks amazing and the lights make it such an inviting place to hang out at night. This reminded me of an old fashioned barn raising. You are so blessed to have such loving family and friends. And Ivy!!! Watching her put the washers on the bolts with such precision and care was tremendous! She is growing up so fast!
Kristen everything looks wonderful. A great family/friend project to enjoy this summer and fall. Your hard work has paid off!. It has been a long winter here in the middle of Nebraska. We have gone from cold to hot in a few short days. I hope we have a better spring but I will take what we have! Thank you for taking us along!!
Great job everyone. Looks so good. Flower seeds that attract pollinators would be great and very cost affective. I planted some last year and had a beautiful garden. The hummingbirds, butterfly’s etc loved it. I am going to plant next weekend. Happy Easter to you and your family.
Hi Kristen, you and your Wonderful crew have done an Amazing job! It is such a Blessing to have family and friends who are willing to help out. 😊Home ownership is Truly a Gift from The Lord, and it is also, a lot of work. Through your video, I can see that all of you, including your Precious little ones, have worked hard in transforming your backyard space. I am Super Excited for you, your family, and friends as you continue to enjoy your space together. As you know, it will continue to take patience, consistency, hard work, God's grace, and a plan; as you continue on your journey to make your backyard, your dream space. Throughout your hard work, please continue to Enjoy the process as well. Thank you for sharing your space with us, and keep up the Great work. 😊 Please take care. In Christ, Paula
Ivy is so big now! Cutie. The lights on the gazebo are so pretty! Hilarious about the chandelier.
My husband and I were driving home today from Council Bluffs, and we drove by your house. I couldn't believe it. Such a cute house.
Oh wow!
I want one so bad. I think they are so cozy to sit under and read a book.
Ivy has excellent fine motor skills, I love your girls 😊 ❤
Yay a new video! My husband is listening to a horror storytelling podcast on the way home from our family’s Easter and I needed a happy distraction ❤😂
So satisfying! What a little elbow grease can accomplish! Nice job!
Yes! Thank you!
I spent the last two nice weekends setting up and fiddling with my solar system to charge the Lightning. Ivy was cute helping out.
Little by little goes a long way.♡✔♡The gazebo looks great and having family and friends helping out is everything.♡

The gazebo turned out great! So wonderful to have strong young men around! 💪
Looks great, you really should give them two rocking chairs a couple of names, because they seem to have lives of their own 😂
I love watching your videos! Your little girls are so adorable and so sweet. Bless you and your beautiful family! The gazebo looks great, and a great addition to your backyard.

Love the gazebo!
Also, I love seeing real life! Most people don't have the money to do "all the things" all at once. It takes time!
The yard looks awesome and will bring much enjoyment as you entertain. ❤

Always loved doing projects with our kids and family.
What a nice back yard. It looks great. I love the gazebo. Hopefully your family will enjoy this for a long time.
I hope so too!
Just a reminder for next year- prune the lilac after it blooms in the spring.
I woudn't have known that. Thank you!
Happy Easter! Your yard is all ready for the warmer weather. Big project, thankful for the help. Rosie looks so much like Josh.

I can’t believe that Ivy is that big now. She is absolutely gorgeous!!
This is beautiful an you are going to be so comfy out there your children are so cutie and love the dog you have a nice family love it ❤
The new gazebo and yard clean up looks great! Good teamwork. I am not a gardener so have no tips. I keep thinking when I retire, I may try planting some things. Happy Easter to you and your family.

To be fair, it actually took 2 weekends!
It’s a great backyard for a family! The gazebo is so pretty, I love it!
We agree!
I have that same candle chandelier. I put solar lamps in mine
Your yard looks amazing Kristen! I can just imagine all of the fun Youth Night activities you all will host in your new back yard!
Kristen everything looks wonderful. A great family/friend project to enjoy this summer and fall. Your hard work has paid off!. It has been a long winter here in the middle of Nebraska.
