A movie was to be made about The Monkees & Boyce & Hart called Last Train To Clarksville but since Tommy's passing in 1994 nothing more has been heard about it. About time they make a movie about these great guys. RIP Tommy, Davy & now Peter, so sad they're now gone but their music lives on.
Wish this was available on DVD. The classic Monkees lineup is my favorite (Headquarters, Justus albums), and had more substance. But the DJBH lineup was fun and did cut some great songs, and their 1976 album is very enjoyable. Have heard about this TV special, but never saw it until today. By the time they cut their DJBH Japanese live record they were having some issues and it was not the best performance. They are more "on their game" with this special, and I'm glad it captured how good this phase of Monkees history was. Thanks so much for sharing! :)
Trivia Factoid: The act immediately preceding The Beatles' first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show was a stage troupe performing from "Oliver!" with DAVY JONES as the lead!
its so corny. I LOVE IT! I had this album on CD and I think I wore it out from playing it so much. f only I could find it on itunes :( Thnx for the upload :) awesomesauce
Yes that one is Bobby Hart. He was the taller of the two and thinner. Boyce was the one with the round face and gone. May God have mercy on your soul Tommy. My sister really loved you.
L Martinez : You must have been a police officer back then which would explain why you know about these crimes. These terms weren't even in the dictionary yet.
I know it's corny, but we had more fun back then. People were nicer-- even with some backward views. The message was at least positive, light and loving. I miss those times.
The Monkees were approached by the William Morris talent agency to reunite, Nesmith and Tork said no ( Hell no actually) Boyce and Hart seemed like a good fit, the plan was to tour as The Monkees, but Columbia pictures owned the rights to the name "Monkees" so they hit the road under DJB&H
@@kaymuldoon3575 I was at that show. it was fabulous. wish there was a recording of it somewhere. or pics anything. man was it hot and muggy and we got rained on at least once that day. Remember when Davy came to center stage and shook some hands in the crowd? One of those hands was mine. And he smiled & winked at me. RIP Davy & thanks for the memories. I was very popular with the girls in my group after that. lol
I like fun stuff like this, todays stuff is mostly sad or depressing. They were funny & silly & missed. Still got Mickey & Mike but Mike is kinda quiet & solemn, not much of a cut up. Davy & Mickey were always cut ups. Boyce & Hart were such good song writers & pretty funny cut ups themselves. 💙
Davy has actually said in interviews that they all used to sit around and smoke pot but that was the only thing he did and he wasnt really all that into it. Peter, unfortunately got caught up in a couple other substances, but hey, we are all human. Peter is clean now I hear, which is good.
Not to burst your timeline bubble, but Happy Days, Grease and Laverne & Shirley were all patterned after the 1950's as was most of Sha Na Na music. American Graffitti was tailored to the early 60's but still had a good chunk of 50's nostalgia as well.
It looks like something you'd see in Vegas. Mike Nesmith would've have never thought to involve himself like this, unless there were drastic changes to the production. At least it kept Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones busy, but another Monkee should've been asked to participate. I'm sure Peter Tork was available.
The other monkeys were asked to return, but Peter and Mike declined. Peter did join them for a Disneyland performance, but that’s about it. This is a throwback you could say to the studio monkees. Because mainly in the studio before Nesmith got his way. The only people that were in the studio were Boyce, Hart, Mickey, and Davy
Nope they’re home now thinking we screwed up not being part of this fun show from way back then, all the fun & memories behind the scenes, now Davy & Peter are gone.
Well possibly Peter could have used the money at this time. Mike, I am sure, was at least at this point in time enjoying the royalties he was getting from his mother's liquid paper! Don't think they changed the formula yet at this stage but I could be wrong. I also think around this time (like 76 or 78 or something) they did get all together to discuss a possible McDonalds commercial. Mike would do it only if they could do a movie and Peter flat out refused to do it due to him not eating meat.
1976 was a perfect time to reunite! By the mid 70's everyone had mid 60's mania! With "American Graffiti", "Grease", "Happy Days", "Laverne and Shirley", and Sha Na Na all being very popular, The Monkees were sure to be a hit all over again! Then again, maybe not.
oh, how sad... so canned... and so cut up... but you gotta keep working and pay the bills, so I understand... but I'm so glad this wasn't the end for them... they've done much better work since this disgrace...
David and Micky didnt do coke..........probably because Tommy and Bobby snorted it all. Micky was a pothead and Davy, by this time, was totally clean and sober. He enjoyed a bit of wine and weed in the early days of the Monkees.
It's pretty sad to see how they send out Dolenz to rip Nesmith and Tork at 6:50. Just look at his face and listen to his voice: He looks like one of those american soldiers captured by the vietcong, forced to renounce the US. For those who don't know, Boyce and Hart were not the first choice for this reunion... Nesmith turned it down and they couldn't even locate Tork. Had they been available there never would have been a Dolenz/Jones/Boyce/Hart fiasco.
You're calling this free grown man a liar & coached? Lol, really? If he says he was closer to his writers than his co-stars, I believe him, & see no reason why he would lie. But then why would you, right? Lol...indeed!
InnerMittenSignal Yes, I'm calling him coached. We are talking about a guy who pretended to be a drummer, aren't we? An actor. Is it surprising that an actor might act a part that he doesn't really believe in? He obviously isn't loving this show and the fact that it tanked right away is no surprise. By the way, you're a twat.
I'm sure Everybuddy listens to & believes what an opinionated name-caller has to say, lol! Anyway I like Mickey & Davey R.I.P. & I believe what they have to say, wooden "acting" or no (obviously the dude is much more a music-lover than a drama-lover!) I'm sorry you're having such a bad day. (You might want to get a vet to take that burr out from under your saddle, mate... :)
Ouch. The chemistry just isn't there. And it's way too retro. I wanted to hear them sing some of the current songs of the day. No Broadway dynamics from Davey. And Mickey needs to by high.
Love the fake screams and laughter. Bad TV at its best, Davey and Mickey must have got paid well to do this....or as musch coke as they could snort....one of the two. They had to know how BAD this was.
I loved the humor of the Monkeeys (and them here with Boyce and Hart) as well as their good music probably because I have a silly sense of humor even at my age now. The Monkeeys brought laughter, fun, in addition to their good music to their fans and I think that's the reason so many of us love them. I can be serious, too, but I love humor!

And Mike just recently past too RIP Papa Nez
Absolutely their music lives on. RIP Tommy, Davy,Peter and now Michael Nesmith too even he wasn't included in this video.
What I appreciate after watching videos of Thier performances, they never "phoned it in".They give 110% every time like it's the first time.
Priceless footage! Wow, I never knew that Boyce and Hart were the "Hart" and soul of the Monkees. They perform very well together!
Wow Davy and Micky were really young and cute. But we all grow up so fast and learn quick. Love ❤ Linda Hart
This video of Davy Jones. Micky . Boyce & Hart is AWESOME ! Thanks for sharing .
Never saw this before! Thank you for sharing it!
Great songs that never grow old - A bit of their "Concert" touring song repertoire.
Thank you for posting :)
Davy , ahí aún se ve guapo.
Excelente vídeo.Muy talentosos.

I really liked this!! Better than today's top 40.

Thank you Boyce and Hart.

Love it!!
This is "rap" music! Love the Monkees!
Awesome! Thank you!
The entire Dolenz Jones Boyce and Hart album is discussed song by song on Podcast Valley Sunday. Check it out!
You nailed it! Damn, miss Davy
Totally AWESOME!!!
RIP Tommy & Davey. Great Talent.
Mickey dolenz great comedian
Yes that one is Bobby Hart. He was the taller of the two and thinner. Boyce was the one with the round face and gone. May God have mercy on your soul Tommy. My sister really loved you.
Just happened on this video, too much fun. Lots of great songs. Back then there were no drive by shootings, road rage incidents or home invasions.
You just did not hear of them
L Martinez : You must have been a police officer back then which would explain why you know about these crimes. These terms weren't even in the dictionary yet.
You must not have heard of the Manson murders that happened in 1969. Still one of the most brutal crimes to this day.
Home invasions existed. They just used to be called burglaries.
And no date rape! Just dates...
Those were better times.
RIP Davy and Tommy.
Tommy? Don't you mean Peter
Big Guy617 , 2 years ago, I’m sure he was referring to Davy Jones and Tommy Boyce
I know it's corny, but we had more fun back then. People were nicer-- even with some backward views. The message was at least positive, light and loving. I miss those times.

I saw this line up in Disneyland in '76...SO COOL to see this on youtube
Annalisa Bastiani I saw them at Six Flags Over Texas back in ‘76. First concert I ever went to.

Davy had such a sweet smile.
everybody was so pretty when they were young!
Can anyone tell me why this formation didn´t work out? I read the album flopped and then it was over. But the hell why? They were terrific!
Cute opening. Take off on the opening song from The Music Man.
👍for noticing!
Yes believe it or not. Rap was around back then, but it was rare to see it on tv.
holy crap... so Dolenz, Jones, Boyce and Hart INVENTED RAP MUSIC????
LOLL... No, actually George Burns did. Search for The George Burns Show in color from 1960 and you'll be blown away at the rap on that thang.
I think Meredith Wilson did for The Music Man.
I didn't know about some of the other songs Boyce and Hart wrote or cowrote with others.
I love this shit
The drums got that muffled sound that was so popular in the 70s.
It's the opening to "The Music Man"
what d'ya talk, what d'ya talk
👍
Take that, Sha Na Na!
Checkout the 70's clothes, I think my Dad had a couple of those suits! lol
I have this album.
Davy has actually said in interviews that they all used to sit around and smoke pot but that was the only thing he did and he wasnt really all that into it. Peter, unfortunately got caught up in a couple other substances, but hey, we are all human. Peter is clean now I hear, which is good.

About 10 years too early before the magic returned. 20th Anniversary was a real reunion.
Valerie. What a balls out dedication of love .
"But he doesn't know the territory"! 10 points to the first person that can tell me what I'm referencing...
The Music Man

At least it kept Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones busy, but another Monkee should've been asked to participate. I'm sure Peter Tork was available.
How do you know Peter was not asked? IMO Mike never did fit in with the rest of the Monkees. Mike was very talented so I'm not knocking his talent.
It's called Something's Wrong With Me and it was recorded by Austin Roberts
WOW Davey flew out there on Flames...anyone else notice that?
I bet Mike and Peter were sitting at home watching this and saying "I'm glad I stayed outta this one!"
Yep.
They didn't have enough tambourines
Nope they’re home now thinking we screwed up not being part of this fun show from way back then, all the fun & memories behind the scenes, now Davy & Peter are gone.
Hey They got paid
Well possibly Peter could have used the money at this time. Mike, I am sure, was at least at this point in time enjoying the royalties he was getting from his mother's liquid paper! OMG--check out those leisure suits.....RIP Davy....as bad as this is, it's great to see it!

They’re best timing for a new birth in popularity was the mid 80s, thanks to MTV.
Those movies and tv shows you mentioned were based in the 50s (maybe into early 60s pre-Beatles).
@@ericdailey8587 You don't say! Colour me embarrassed. 😩
Burt Bacharac was on top of his game in late 60's
trhat's why he hooked Angie Dickson...chicks dig song writers and muscians
it's a patter schtick routine that goes back to vaudville and earlier... great, great, great grandparent of rap, maybe
that rolls off my tunge like half a piglet
"But he doesn't know the territory..."
Dang, I was just thinking the same thing... maybe we could just call it free-styling.
wait a second, they were rapping in 76? holio!!!
If I didn't know any better I would think this was an SCTV spoof. LOL
"I bet you do, cowboy."
Love the song at 9:07. His voice is GREAT. (I think it's Bobby Hart??) I can't remember who is who now. :)
Yep.. you're right../:) my mistake....all these years i thought it was a neil diamond song...lol..
"Pleasant Valley Sunday" is a song by Gerry Goffin and Carole King not Boyce and Hart
So Dolenz and Jones performed the first "rap" song? Who knew??????? Yes, I know it was called "scat singing" back then.
Nice leisure suits.
oh, how sad... so canned... and so cut up... but you gotta keep working and pay the bills, so I understand... but I'm so glad this wasn't the end for them... they've done much better work since this disgrace...
II learned one part of this song...u know which
Is it me or are they rapping?
He wrote both songs...
Interesting but I think by this time I was heavily into Zep, Sabbath and Deep Purple
The closest Davy Jones ever got to drugs was a contact buzz ...
Carrie Gering not quite! 😉
Low sound. To bad. and not clear. Mickey was awesome and really stuck with it.
Sucks they didn't make the hall.
David and Micky didnt do coke..........probably because Tommy and Bobby snorted it all. Micky was a pothead and Davy, by this time, was totally clean and sober. He enjoyed a bit of wine and weed in the early days of the Monkees.
Pure 70s Cheeze
Better than the cheese of today.
oy!
Wow...the RUclips community....went from dolenz and jones to theology....nobody's right if everybody's wrong
What does theology mean?

Neil Diamond Wrote "Day Dream Believer"...
Neil Diamond wrote I’m a Believer, (Look Out) Here Comes Tomorrow and A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.
John Stewart wrote Daydream Believer.
Boyce Hart should have stayed behind the camera.
*Mickey*. Come on, guys. It's not that difficult.
the most talented Monkee was Mickey and that's even knowing Peter Tork had more musical training
Ouch. The chemistry just isn't there. And it's way too retro. I wanted to hear them sing some of the current songs of the day. No Broadway dynamics from Davey. And Mickey needs to by high.

Shameless exploitation of some socially engineered music.
