My wife is a professional percussionist and educator. One of her former students is a well known professional percussionist who has toured internationally with many high profile rock/pop bands and solo artists. He told us a few years ago that is not uncommon for well known singers “playing” tambourines on stage with the jingles taped so the instrument is totally silent.

I have seen video of Mr. Tork doing his music in the early 80's before the Monkee's reunion and how he does not get the full credit he deserved is beyond me. I know he gets some but it seems like yea, MICKY!!! MICHAEL!!! DAVY!!!! and oh yea... Peter.... Just look at this video and he is able to more or less keep up with Micky in the humor department. I can't remember if it was Mike or Micky who commented something like, Nothing fake about our boy Peter! Just the best. I know Micky does everything possible to give him the credit by saying how talented Peter was and plays like a ton of instruments and the instrument had not been invented he didn't know how to play

Given the strife and stigma the original 60s show had, it was really daring to try NM...
that NM show was not always easy to watch as the mid-80s were replete with bringing back long-gone shows and the revivals/reboots almost never worked (or had much charm) , but the guys they hired could easily put a song together as well and are truly underrated. the music was undeniably great and the hired musicians definitely deserved defending. I should check out the NM show and see if the show holds up. I heard a couple of their songs a few years ago and it was still good stuff

Micky Dolenz was always my favorite Monkee by far!!!! I had a crush on him since the 1960s when I was a young girl.

Times flies. Micky is the last one, as of now, in March 2023. I'm sure they all had a blast while all 3 or 4 were alive for as long as they could reunite many times on stage. Enjoy every second of your time on earth & mortality. After college & work, I could only see my dad maybe a third or half the time for about 20 years , but then I was able to be with my dad full time for the last 10 years of his life. YOLO.

The Monkees belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
So what if they were a TV band.
They outsold, had more fans, were more iconic and had more hits than many if not most of the acts that are already in the Hall of Fame.

True ! If writing your own songs to be inducted, than Elvis and the Righteous Brothers shouldn't have been inducted. It was just a bunch of music snobs in the 60's who were jealous of their success.

Their TV show had camera angles and uses and special effects that were later used quite a bit in TV today esp reality TV.

I had a girl friend in college in the 80s, and she was a huge fan. I likewise was a fan of them mainly from reruns in the late 60s & 70s as a kid. This exploded after Nickoledeon did the late nite Monkees marathon, and they started touring again.
