I guess in countries like that, if you define "cost of living" by things like electronics and video games, it probably can get kinda high. It's just restrictive to be a nerd outside of the USA because you're often paying import taxes and "global prices" for things often made by US companies. I often can't fathom the kinds of international prices people pay for many games. When I went to Japan, I found a copy of Persona 5 (a Japanese game) and it seemed like I'd pay far more in Yen than I would in dollars for it; and the game hadn't even come out recently.

Living in Turkey is enough to drive anyone crazy. It is so stressful and hopeless.
imagine having to pay 1.500.000 (yes that's a million) dollars for a Honda Civic and 30.000 dollars for an iphone while earning ~9.000 a month. That's how it is like to live in Turkey.
It drives you to give up on all your hopes and dreams as the future is hopeless. and you can't leave the country either because turkey's passport is useless and no other country gives you a visa.
it's the kind of place that drives a person to wallow in his misery for all his life. this man chose to fill the gap with hatred which is honestly understandable.

To be honest broski has a point. Turkey had a relative small exchange rate between dollar and Lira then over the course of 5 years it went up to 20 lira to a dollar. So if you look at it from a person with dollars for money or euros it looks like the cost of living went down. However for the avarage person where the wages remained the same while the Lira was devalued to the point where their savings lost about 75% of the purchacing power, the standard of living is way too high. On a sidenote the last years turkey had one of the worst cases of inflation.

I usually don't write comments but I am gonna write for anyone wondering: Dbd cost in Turkey x9 more expensive than the price in America. Gaming is a expensive hobby for Turkish people. So Borisky is right on that topic unfortunely.

Off-topic: I believe the cost of living is not the problem. The problem is that while the cost of living may be low the amount of cash you earn is ALSO low. I also see that discrepancy in my country (Poland).
While someone from US might come here and be able to afford a lot with the amount they earn in their country the local people earn so much less comparatively that it evens out or swings the other way.
So: while the cost of living is low, the earnings are very low and the cost of things like DIGITAL purchases are comparatively VERY high because they are NOT adjusted for local earnings (they used to be in the past, and it led to people using VPN's to buy things cheaply on Steam for example). So the game that might cost you $60 might be 5% of what you earn a month (just an example) in a country like Turkey or Brazil might be closer to 30-40% of your monthly earning. So it's a choice of getting a video game or paying for food that month.
Cost of living is pointless to look at in a vacuum.

About the cost of living... It's not the only measure to be taken into account. There's also the average income, taxes, etc.
