Bobby Moore had one week to live. He drove to Wembley that day and after the match attended a dinner, presented some prizes at a ceremony and gave a speech! He went to work on the Thursday and Friday that week at his Sports Marketing Company and spent all day at the office on both days. After the Saturday though he stayed indoors and died on the Wednesday morning. So he worked almost until the very last day.
The sad fact is he worked like that because he had to. He was treated so shamefully and shabbily by football-the FA/West Ham shunned him-all their lauding of Bobby Moore came after his death.TOO LATE!! His dignity and even making sure he attended the awards ceremomy as you mention just underline what a great man he was. Deserved far better.
1-0 David Platt (13 min) 2-0 David Platt (24 min) 3-0 David Platt (67 min) 4-0 Carlton Palmer (78 min) 5-0 David Platt (83 min) 6-0 Les Ferdinand (86 min)
I've never understood the fascination/panic/ determination to get the ball on the centre spot after a goal. It ain't gonna make the opposition restart any faster. Its still down to the ref to stop the watch
Probably keeps the urgency up and puts mental pressure on the team that has conceded. If you've just scored to make it 3-2 and you walk back, it's hard to restart the game with the same urgency as you showed before the goal.
Batty was a decent player. He could tackle, pass and shoot. This midfield also contained Gazza and Platt, playing off the striker. Gazza did very little in this game.
@@thewomble1509 he famously spent most of his career passing backwards - he'd be a great fit in Southgate's England squad. I never get the logic of playing a back 4 and holding midfielders against a team that isn't even conference level
He was going through a bad spell in an England shirt . However when he was playing for Liverpool he was playing well. I got the impression it was an anti Liverpool thing as much as anything.

Sad that Bobby died a week after this game of cancer. RIP, true legend.
Ahh, Bobby Moore. He did indeed.
I think he came to the game to say goodbye to Wembley
ONE week before his death. Match 17th feb, died 24th feb
I was at this game. Christ I’m old.
You are, boomer 😏
Been gone 25 years this year. He went much too soon.
Tony Adams scored the final goal, his header clearly went over the line before Ferdinand touched it.
platt for me was a modern Keegan, was everywhere, scored goals and was on form for England...im an irish scouser
You know your international career is gonna be challenging when your goalkeeper is MOTM and you still lose 6 - 0.
30 years ago. Wow...time flies. A disastrous qualifying campaign 🤣...wasn't laughing at the time though 😕
How the fuck Carlton Palmer ever got near an England squad I will never know.
Well, he scored a goal for England be it against San Marino so he can't have been that bad.
He was a lot better than his press in 1992-3.
1-0 David Platt (13 min)

Hard to imagine the thought process of playing Batty and Palmer against San Marino.

Playing San Marino and having Batty and Palmer in midfield tells you need to now about Taylor
If only you had been England manager. We'd have won the '94 W Cup without breaking a sweat.
BİZ BU SAHADA HİÇ ATAMADAN 8 YEMİŞTİK...ULAN BİR SAN MARİNO KADAR OLAMIYORUZ BEA ! ERMAN HOCAAMMMM!!!
He always seemed to get booed by some fans at Wembley. Certainly wasn't just this game.
Chyba ścieżkę dźwiękową z tego meczu wzięli do FIFA 2000 :)
I was there when Calton Palmer scored a goal for England 😆 😂
Me too first England game all those years ago
Yep, same here...can't believe it was that long ago.
WHY was Barnes being booed? Does anyone know??
A series of poor performances for England, exacerbated by the tabloid press.
@@78terrier and a sprinkling of racism.

Where is VAR
Thoroughly nonexistent, as it should always have been. Progressivism, not changeism, is the motto.
England's old problem : Penalty shooting....

I didn't say I agreed with it.
@@78terrier Not saying you do mate.
Just an observation, that’s all.
There was a press campaign to take Chappy to euro 92 instead of Barnes.
In tne end, Platt missed a penalty and suffered a carma, for being so arrogant during the match and after the goals he scored...
The 2-0 one didn’t cross the line either
